War by Women: CNN Poll Puts Obamacare Support at 35% Support, With 62% Against; Almost All of the Fall-Off Is Due to Women Turning on the Law
— Ace

Pajamaboy isn't cutting it.

Big drop:

Only 35% of those questioned in the poll say they support the health care law, a 5-point drop in less than a month. Sixty-two percent say they oppose the law, up four points from November.

Nearly all of the newfound opposition is coming from women.

“Opposition to Obamacare rose six points among women, from 54% in November to 60% now, while opinion of the new law remained virtually unchanged among men,” CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said.

Why the shift? People are starting to realize Obamacare is going to make them poorer:

Here’s a better measure of what people think about the Affordable Care Act: 63% of respondents think that it’s going to make their health care cost more, compared to only 28% who think it will stay the same — and only 7% who think it’s going to make it more affordable. The last time CNN polled on that question was September 2009, when a majority thought it would make no difference or help it cost less (51%) as compared to 47% who thought it would make it more expensive. As the price tag becomes clear, so does the opposition based on its reality.

Meanwhile, Team Get Enrolled is now doing information events in... packed nightclubs. And that's going about as well as you'd expect.

WashingtonÂ’s new health insurance exchange dispatched a sign-up envoy to one of the cityÂ’s gay clubs one recent night to get out the word about Obamacare. It envisioned men mingling on the dance floor, a cocktail in one hand and enrollment information in the other.

But the brochures about DC Health Link, as the exchange is called, werenÂ’t snapped up as quickly as the free condoms provided by a local clinic.

...

That strategy has clear challenges, however. In a packed nightclub like Town Danceboutique in Northwest D.C., music smothers conversation, dimmed lights make reading difficult, and health coverage is not whatÂ’s on peopleÂ’s minds.

“They’re looking to let loose. They’re not looking to talk about serious topics,” patron Maven Saleh said as he surveyed the Town crowd on a winter weekend.

Add an appearance by Santa wearing a “Naughty” hat as he posed for pictures on stage, and DC Health Link assister John Esposito had a near-impossible task that night. Positioned behind the stage and bar area, he stood by a small table offering not just information about insurance enrollment but packages of condoms and tubes of lubricant. The latter items were courtesy of the Whitman-Walker Clinic, which also had its HIV testing van parked outside.

One more thing: The Administration, which is nothing but spin and bullshit, has some new spin and bullshit on Pajamaboy. They seem to have just thought of this in the past 24 hours -- see, they didn't really think Pajamaboy was cool or anything. They actually intended Pajamaboy to be a negative image, like "This is what people who don't sign up with Obamacare look like."

So they're now claiming -- like, two weeks too late for this to be plausible -- that Pajamaboy was always intended as the Goofus, not as the Gallant, of health insurance status.

The White House, before the website rollout debacle, stressed that it needed a three-to-one ratio of older-and-sicker versus young-and-healthy people to sign up for the law.

And the underlying message in this tweet — part of a light-hearted campaign that included the same model with his feet up on a coffee table smiling in a Christmas sweater — in many ways, is: “DON’T be like this guy. Get health care.”

“Don’t be this guy sitting around in his pajamas,” a Democratic official told First Read said of the message, who requested anonymity to talk freely. “Have a conversation, and get health care. And it’s poking fun at that” idea of doing nothing.

They used Pajamaboy a lot, over the course of two months, in various OFA "get enrolled" messages. In none of these messages did they signal that Pajamaboy was the guy you don't want to be.

But even Pajamaboy -- even Pajamaboy!!! -- gets thrown under the bus by Obama when his polls go down.

6 From the last thread: Good morning all! I've got a story for you this morning. My oldest stepson's female friend who works as a bartender at his brewery is putting together a food truck serving Asian food. She is going to work the truck with another girlfriend of hers. Cue the "two girls one truck" jokes! Anyhow, this is the same girl that I'm pretty sure he's trying his darnedest to hook up with. I told you the story of how he watched her dog for two weeks while she went back to Taiwan to visit her relatives. FOR FREE!!!! Probably because she has the pointy elbows. They have a FB and Kickstarter page. https://www.facebook.com/DumpPhoKingTruck http://dumpphokingtruck.com The "friend" is the one wearing the denim jacket in the video. Oh yeah, be sure to watch the video! I'm fairly certain my stepson has MANY MANY TIMES.

12 But heaven forbid we actually talk about repealing this monstrosity. A clear (nearly super-) majority oppose the law. A clear (nearly super-) majority think it will cost them more with 28% more who realize it won't help them. 91% of the people will either be harmed or (at best) not helped by the law. And Republicans won't start talking up repeal? WTF?

17 Wait. Full stop here. Their target audience. Gays at a club. They're confusing "health care" and "health insurance" again. Seems to me they're trying to get out and get high risk people "covered." But that's a bad idea frankly. Go out and get your low risk people covered and build stability. The high risk people come later. If you fuck up that order, you'll crush the system. By the by, before some troll comes in here and screams "HOMAPHOBE." I'd note that a community clinic is already targeting this area as high risk (hence the free rubbers.) You could leave every fact the same in there except change "Gay" to "hetero" and I'd reach the same conclusion.

Although as I pointed out the conflation began when we mixed "health insurance" and "compensation" during the FDR wage freezes. Once health insurance became a form of compensation people kept demanding more and more of it (i.e. increasing their compensation level via a non-wage mechanism.) It's out of control frankly.

It's not just that these people don't talk to conservatives, I don't think they talk to anybody. I think they just found pajama boy funny in an ironic way. Well, irony's great if you're living off of your parents' money in a dorm, with free access to sex, weed and alcohol and absolutely no responsibilities or thoughts of the future but when you're faced with actual costs which require actual money, irony's for kids.

173 When all you are good at is campaigning, all you know to do is more campaign.

And this why their ideas are falling so flat: Promises and excitement are great for rallies because they only expect one thing from you, your vote.

And that is easy and cheap. No one spends hours and hours agonizing over whether to vote for the Republican or the Democrat.

But, you do actually spend hours and hours shopping for health insurance--if you're one of those who have had to buy it yourself. Hell, even if it is employer offered, you still have to spend quite a bit of time choosing which level and how much you will contribute for what coverage.

So yeah, heath insurance is a little more weighty decision than "Team D is cool and exciting. I'm going to vote for Team D!"

Most people know their health insurance pretty damned well--they know the coverage, they know their doctors, they know how much they pay each month. And these are the same people who fail the "man on the street" interviews with stupid answers like "Obama is a Republican/ Pelosi is the President/ etc." type shit.

183 Actually, I do know how it is going with PajamaBoy.  I've been able to take a look at the way the lib collective works when they are talking among themselves on Twitter, and don't think anyone is watching.

It is really really pathetic.

It is nothing but inane talking points, tired slogans, and recycled hashtags as far as the eye can see.  Someone will post "Love is Love" and it will be retweeted 50 times, without any thought put behind it.

On the off chance that some snark gets introduced, say by someone posting something from Iowahawk in the middle of the collective, they get stirred up like a hornets nest and start screaming profanity and accusing everyone who doesn't think like them as racists and homophobes.

The REALLY fun part is the self proclaimed intellectuals, who everyone tries to suck up to.  These are the ones posting 7 page articles from the NY Times, the Guardian, or one of the European newspapers and throwing out 4 syllable  words that no one would ever use in normal conversation, but sound so very smart.  They are Writers, don'tchaknow, which makes them qualified to comment on economic theory with complete authority.

If you like trolling, it is a gold mine of never ending amusement.

The inverse square law applies nicely to an isolated radiation source, but it isn't particularly relevant when we're talking about a contamination plume carried on a ocean current. OTOH, the commenters on that thread are, in general, a complete bunch of loons and net.cranks.

246 I will deal with this 'pajamaboy'

247 The Pajama Boy ad says "Wear pajamas. Drink hot chocolate. Talk about getting health insurance."

So what this really means is "Don't wear pajamas. Don't drink hot chocolate. Don't talk about getting health insurance."

Maybe the message they really meant to send was "Don't talk about the fact that you're losing your health insurance and you can't afford to buy it on the exchange, even if you could log on to the web site to buy it."

But that's hard to communicate in a tweet.

248 Almost All of the Fall-Off Is Due to Women Turning on the Law Not impressed. They're turning on the law after realizing they were to be part of the group from where the subsidies would largely be coming from. There were warnings issued about all of Obamacare's negatives AND THEY DIDN'T LISTEN. Fucking idiots.
