8 Stressful?

There were no surprises last night.    We were witness to the model the Dems will use in 2014.  They will have a "libertarian" candidate in every close race and pour a shitload of money into each race as well.

And the so-called Obamacare backlash is wishful thinking.

What the hell happened with GOPROUD?

Chris Barron of GOPROUD tweet out that he voted for Terry McAuliffe for Governor.

Jimmy LeSalvia endorsed Robert Sarvis the Libertarian Party candidate for his position gay marriage.

The guy who won is a big-government, oppressive,  high-taxing,   Progressive/Communist who has no love for  freedom,  America,  the Constitution, or   NYC'ers.

But other than that, I'm sure he's a nice guy.

The pointy-ness is approaching critical!!!

In other news, my oldest stepson is turning out to be the biggest Chump on the east coast.  This past weekend, he agreed to take care of a dog that belongs to a bartender at the brewery where he works.  The bartender is an extremely pointy-elbowed asian girl, not unlike the cosplay ones that Anna links.  She is traveling out of the country, I think visiting relatives in China or Taiwan or Hong Kong, for two weeks and needed someone to look after her boxer mix.  Like a dumbass, he said he would do it.  And get this:  she left him with a quarter of a bag of dog food.  He has to buy more dog food later on and he's already near broke and barely living paycheck to paycheck!

This girl already has an older man "taking care" of her, IYKWIMAITTYD.  Why he agreed to do it, when he knows all this, is anyone's guess (yeah we know why!).  He says they're "friends".  I say he's a Chump!  Now he wants to bring the dog to my house because his landlord might be around and he doesn't allow pets.  Sorry, son!  No can do.  I hope you at least get a handjob out of the deal.  It's the very least she could do.

55 Posted by: Vic at November 06, 2013 09:39 AM (zZbNF) But but but..the dude on CNN crossfire said last night that the 400,000 millionaires and billionaires in NYC said they were OK with higher taxes. And surely those people wouldn't just say that as a socially acceptable thing and then do everything they can to avoid paying those taxes. Warren Buffet would NEVER do that right?! ---End Snark I really think this is part of the problem with the liberals. They don't understand that in a poll, these people will lie for social conventions. Then act differently. So they push all these programs on the backs of revenue that never materializes. Then the middle class gets fucked with the bill.

I'm treated like shit because I'm the only hard charger in the shop, and everyone knows they can just dump their work on my desk.  It'll get done.  I've been told that I'm an -11 for life.  Maybe some of you think that's a lot of money ($64k) but living in Alexandria, I promise you it's not.

If I've got no way up, my work ethic counts for nothing, AND I'm a piece in the machine I despise as a matter of principal, I need to look on the outside.

I'd prefer to work for someone I know/respect rather than some jackwagon fed.

114 Posted by: Washington Nearsider at November 06, 2013 09:49 AM (fwARV) In terms of cost to coverage, the FEHB is by far some of the worst healthcare I've seen as a group plan FWIW. My dad in in charge of benefits for a bank whose average staff age is over 40 (maybe over 50) and he laughed when I told him what the total contribution to the wife and my insurance is. (Our paid premium is slightly lower than his, but only because the government splits about 25/75 us/them, he splits closer to 50/50.) My wife literally paid 4X what I did when I had a full time job, and my insurance was significantly better than hers. Nearsider, even if you can't escape the leviathan you might consider relocating, I haven't really looked at my wife's salary recently but I'm fairly certain she makes that and/or more because her agency abandoned the GS system in favor of something else.

Meanwhile, out West:

San Jose California councilmembers have approved a measure that allows residents to shoot wild pigs that have become a nuisance by ripping up lawns and golf course fairways.

Councilman Johnny Khamis says it's not his intention to commit a pig genocide but he's concerned the pigs may attack residents.

Dozens of the 200-pound pigs have been spotted in South San Jose this fall. Some people have reported thousands of dollars in damage as the pigs try to dig up food under the grass.

117 51 NYC will get tired of that commie after their taxes go even higher.
--------------------------

Come on now. No they wont.
==========
Yeah, you miss the essential calculus of the Dem Victory, e.g. If the number of taxpayers is less than the number of tax-takers then, the Dem wins.

Then we tell ourselves cute little stories about "sooner or later they will run out of other people's money." Yeah. No.

They'll just grind and grind and grind down to the worst possible standard of living for everyone.
As long as they are at the top, they don't care.

Did the Commies of the USSR care that they were driving around in shitboxes that wouldn't pass a safety inspection in New Mexico? No. They were driving, everyone else was walking.

You can repeat that story each and every time the commies have got power--they don't give a flying fuck how bad life is, they just want to be in charge.
You'll be eating tree bark soup, they'll be eating tree bark soup with leaves . . . and be happier than a pig in shit 'cause they have the tiniest of bit more than you.

@ 144 - "Cuccinelli has his public record that he cannot run away from, however - even if he did not emphasize social issues this campaign."

Sorry, but that didn't sink Cuccinelli - the abandaonment, and subsequent funds freeze by the GOP-e did.

I think it's hilarious - in the previous thread, Gabe asserted that the GOP-e and their abandonment of their own party's candidate had nothing to do with the Cucc's loss - and then he linked to two different articles (Federalist and NRO) which basically pinpointed this exact thing as one of the major causes.

Does Gabe read these things before he links them?

186 From the sidebar story on the view from snide the company working on 404'ing American health insurance: "I used to think the problems I saw were localized to my little corner of the company, but it seems the problems are with the company mentality. Worse, as far as the company is concerned this was a big win. They made a TON of money, and they're managing (so far as the media is concerned) to foist the blame off onto others. They'll now make a ton MORE money fixing a system that should never have been broken in the first place." This is the problem with government contracting: the shit doesn't have to work. In fact, its sort of better if it doesn't, since you can make lots of money fixing the mess created in the first contract.

Pros
Very nice for reading.  I noticed much less eye fatigue than with either Kindle Fire that I own.  It is extremely light and easy to hold--again nicer than either Fire.

The republican coalition is currently more of a group of people fucked over and abandoned by the democrats, which makes it hard to unify it around much. We probably should fix that.

Jack, the airwaves around here were saturated with "teh GOP is trying to ban your vagina!!11!1!" with one major exception. Christie's opponent was a sacrificial lamb who didn't use that line of attack against him. It will be saved for 2016. He's a guaranteed loser for president who won't even win the state he's governor of, and the donks know it.

The 2000 election was part of it, but I have seen real political analyst types who date it back to an election in the House of Reps in the 80s, I forget who, that the Dems simply refused to seat a Republican who won a narrow race. A whole lot of the donor class view politics as an influence racket. Simple as that. They will happily back the expected winner. McAuliffe was promoted to "expected winner" status ten nanoseconds after Cuccinelli got the nod as the GOP candidate, and then the money flooded in.

@ 233 - "I'm not a Christie supporter dunce. That doesn't mean I can't learn from his victory. He was able to win as a pro-life, anti-gay marriage Republican in a deep blue state by 20 points. And he won the woman's vote by double digits."

I have mixed feelings about Chris Christie.

I *want* to like him, for the reasons you enumerated above.  Indeed, if he would just get right on the gun issue (and that is probably because he is in New Jersey, a very urban, anti-gun state), I could see him being a strong ideological match.

However, his negatives include the fact that he tends to not be a team player - where team player is defined as doing what it takes to help ANY conservative win.  He follows the GOP-e track of disassociating from and refusing to support certain candidates just because they are "Tea Partyish" or whatnot.

That's just idiotic.  If people want to know why the Tea Partiers and other very conservative types have no love for the GOP and are being such a thorn in the side of the GOP - well, there's your answer.  You can't keep dropping burning dog poop onto peoples' porches on a month by month basis, and then expect them to keep lining up behind you every two years indefinitely.  Thinking they will indicates a stunning lack of self-awareness.

Frankly, to the extent that there is a "civil war" in the GOP ranks, it is one provoked by the GOP-e itself, in its attempt to stamp down what amounts to probably a large majority of its own membership, even if they're not the "money men."

I really didn't spend any real time learning about the VA Gov election, but this strikes me as particularly dumb analysis.  How does a guy who got outspent, without the support of a significant chunk of his party, subjected to all sorts of rotten dirty tricks by the other party, managing to lose by fractions of a percentage point in a race that had a stalking horse in it translate into a lousy candidate?

Oh, and by the way, in a state that  has been trending strongly toward the other party in recent years, including the last two Presidential races.

I know some of  you people really hate  the God wing of the R party, but your irrational fear of these people is silly and strange, considering you tend to require them to shut up and vote for your squishes  when you manage to nominate them.

Polls had Booker within 4 % a year before the election and after the Sandy money had been tossed around. Then Lautenberg died, and Christy arranged it so Booker oils run for that instead. If Booker ran against Christy he would have lost. Christy could not attack Booker without losing even worse Christy won NJ the old fashioned way, by paying off your competition and opponents, quite literally His reelection does not mean what you think it does

312 Posted by: HeatherRadish™ is sick at November 06, 2013 10:36 AM (ZKzrr) I've probably read more of Zeke's stuff than most people here (risk of the job I suppose.) So this is your daily reminder: Zeke is at best a purely emotivist being, constantly going around basing his ethics on what feels good. At worst he's just an idiot. I'm convinced he gained prominence in the field (and he was prominent prior to this, independent of Obama) for 2 reasons: 1) Timing (it was a good time to be in the field, lots of people from that generation are prominent.) 2) he said the "right" things. He may be stupid, but what he's saying is what the liberals in the field want to here, so they love him.

//President John McCain

The Chrispy Fellatory tour after two failed moderates tells me I wasted my energy on politics for 25 years.

The GOP is not interested in anything but their place at the trough let alone their turn at the head of the line.

I wasted enough donations to have bought a small farm and a good part of the physical plant needed to run it.

Still He didn't have 4-1 camapign funds spent onhis campaign  nor did He have the backing of the media arm of the Progressive party,  and a large constituency of  Govt workers looking out for their own pockets .

I think on that note He did far better than I expected.

imagine if just one  of those things were different?

334 299 Here is my point - I am saying that the butthurt route of my guy/faction did not win so I am not going to vote for your guy is a bad way to go.

You have to accept losing. That is the thing with elections, people win, people lose. If you only will play if you are winning, might as well just go for the tyranny.

You can't make the case hey, you need to support *my* guy when he wins if you say if your guy wins I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

Posted by: blaster at November 06, 2013 10:35 AM (W6bkf)

Here is the thing though.  We have been hearing the "Suck it up and vote for the candidate even if yours didn't win" for a long, LONG time.  And most have done it, even when it has been for a worthless squish that will end up siding with democrats 30% of the times and its a very key 30%.  And yet, when it has very recently gone the other way and its been a conservative candidate that gets the nod and the establishment squish is the one left on the outs, do the ones who have been the beneficiaries of "Suck it up and vote conservatives" do the same?  No, the losing candidate, refuses to offer any support, they actively endorse the democrat, they run as an independent, they run a write-in campaign, they fully switch parties and try to get on the Dem ticket to hold onto power.

So there is a reason why the whole "I'm no longer going to support some moderate that is going to fuck me over just because he has an R after his name" has come about.

You're in denial if you think that it was Christie's campaigning strategy that won his election.    He did  not have the democrat attack machine against him  in any manner close in what they did in  VA.

The Dems could have won in NJ if they put the same effort in as they did in VA.   Because as you say,   Christie had basically  the same socon issues as Cucc did.    I will say that though,   that Sandy  also  assisted Christie's  reelection as well as his embrace of Obama at that time.

That sums it up pretty well.  There is the Prisoner's Dilemma game where the best strategy is to trust somebody until they fuck you over.  That has actually proven to work pretty well as a strategy because cooperation gives better long term results.  Problem is when somebody goes for short term benefit by screwing over the other players, you can't cooperate with them any more.

With the one way squishes who run the national GOP preferring a Democrat victory to a conservative victory the guaranteed result is that there will never be a conservative victory so there is no point in participating any more.

Posted by: Obnoxious A-hole at November 06, 2013 06:59 AM (BcCwi)

341 I read the Geraghty post-mortem piece. The point about being out of office (if not running for re-election) is reasonable because point 2

Point 2. Running against a Democrat requires a lot of money. A lot of money. The pie chart Geraghty put up on McAuliffe's outside money supporters is an eye-opener. Another advantage is that McAuliffe's voters were concentrated in just a few media markets: NoVa, Richmond, Norfolk. Dem ad saturation 24/7. Plus MSM. The only way for a Republican to counter that kind of advantage is to have a comparable war chest.

Posted by: mrp at November 06, 2013 07:00 AM (HjPtV)

342 277 But he won not once but twice in NJ and that is not easy to do as a Republican. And he is not ashamed to admit his social conservatism. His opponent may not have been strong but he also didn't hide his pro-life stance his first term so its not like people don't know his position. My only point is its not terrible to figure out how he was able to win in a very blue state despite holding those positions. I'd rather so our nominee next time run on the critically important issues facing us right now namely the economy, debt, Obamacare, etc., and not on social issues which we all know do not favor us right now. Posted by: JackStraw at November 06, 2013 10:29 AM (g1DWB) ----------------------------- The problem with your analysis is that GOP candidates do not get to choose what the issues will be. The MSM and Dems (BIRM) choose. Cuccinelli did NOT run on social issues. He ran on economic, fiscal, and liberty issues and utterly devastated McSleazeball in the debates. (Even the WaPo admitted that McA looked clueless.) But the MSM (especially WaPo) and buckets of Clintonista money kept the War on Wymmynz going full speed. You believe "everyone knows" Christie's social positions. I'll bet most voters don't or don't care. It's not an issue until the media makes it one. Cuccinelli won a statewide race 4 years ago with no trouble. So did McDonell, who is at least as socially conservative as Cuccinelli. The Dems had not yet developed the War-on-Wymmz firebomb technique.
