— Ace No not really. That's just bein' silly. Here's the real headline:
Elliot Spitzer's Not Sorry and As Much As Says So
It's one thing for someone to confess fault and acknowledge others have the right to render a moral judgment on him. The contrite man may offer reasons why they should be merciful in their judgments, but he'll acknowledge that others do have the right to judge him by his actions.
Elliot Spitzer doesn't concede you have the right to judge him for breaking the law while the chief law enforcement officer of a state, or of going after some mob-connected prostitution rings and yet not others.
He insists is none yo' bizness.
Asked by Mika Brzezinski about the various tabloid headlines bashing his past indiscretions, Spitzer replied: “I am mystified by the attention and the focus on that.”Spitzer really revealed his thinking, however, in a back and forth with Time’s Mark Halperin.
“There is a difference between public and private lives,” Spitzer said in response to a question about whether lying to the public was disqualifying for a public official. “There is a divide there that is something we do want to think about at a certain point and time.” We all know politicians dissemble all the time about negotiations on substantive issues and probably on personal issues as well.” [Funky logic-breaking quotation marks in original.]
Later, Spitzer added: “I lied about personal sexual activity.”
Chris Cilliza concludes Spitzer is merely sorry he got caught, which is entirely different from being contrite. A contrite man doesn't constantly argue that what he did wasn't all that bad and Everyone Does It and Why Don't You Just Mind Your Own.

---- ---- ---- ---- --- -----
Which happened to be criminal. Wow, he's a brazen shameless asshole.
You can't make that argument without a full-throated (heh) defense of legalizing prostitution.

Spitzer is paying canvassers as much as $800 each per day in a frantic scramble for signatures to enter the Democratic primary for city controller, insiders confirmed.
The sky-high payments, unheard of in city petition drives, reflect Spitzer’s deep pockets, his determination to succeed — and the desperate straits his candidacy is in.

But you know, in hooker terms $800 per day is pretty darn cheap...

"Judicial Watch announced today that it has obtained documents proving that the Department of Justice played a major behind-the-scenes role in organizing protests against George Zimmerman. Zimmerman is on trial for second-degree murder in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin in February 2012."

So the troll is in favor of prostitution and can't grasp the idea that 1) hypocrisy and 2) personal integrity might have some relevance to whether someone should be entrusted with power. Good to know.
Also, wouldn't comparing a politician's job to a plumber's or electrician's be a category error? I ask because it seems amusing that someone who has taken his name (incorrectly, since the troll uses a place name as a surname - Okham is a village in England) from a renown logician is so free with the fallacies.

What I find really troubling, is the Voters are more interested in 'what will you give me'... vice having someone they can trust as their Elected Representative.
Case in point? The Clintons. He LIED to us... which is a real moral problem... for once he lies to you, how can you trust him.... SHE LIED to us... as there is NO way for her to be stupid enough NOT to have known....
And then they stayed together in a sham of a Political Marriage... for appearance sake...
Now... how can anyone TRUST HER? Yet... there is serious talk of her being the next PRECEDENT?
Our system only works if we have a Majority of Moral people in Power... if we do not have them as a check on the Power of Evil Untrustworthy people.... the system WILL Fail....
And it is... when the Precedent can announce that he will NOT follow the Law???? When he will not ENFORCE the LAW? and there seems to be no way to FORCE him to enforce the Law? AND he has no American Morals?
Done...

Yes, there is, but his desire to lie publicly about his private life knowing that it would have a direct, negative impact on his public life means a lot more than him lying to a personal friend about his golf score or to his buddy about being able to pay back the $50 he borrowed. Plus, let's not forget, that Spitzer was lying about behavior in which he broke the law -- a law in which he used to personally prosecute others.
Everybody tells lies or half-truths at some point in their lives for various motivations -- some selfish (e.g., hiding misbehavior), some selfless (e.g., trying to avoid hurting someone) -- but some lies and the behavior that the lies are covering up should disqualify an individual from serving in a public position. This is one of those situations.
There are other things you can do with your life other than elective office and public service, Spitzer. So go do them.

Separately, in response to a Florida Sunshine Law request to the City of Sanford, Judicial Watch also obtained an audio recording of a “community meeting” held at Second Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Sanford on April 19, 2012. The meeting, which led to the ouster of Sanford’s Police Chief Bill Lee, was scheduled after a group of college students calling themselves the “Dream Defenders” barricaded the entrance to the police department demanding Lee be fired. According to the Orlando Sentinel, DOJ employees with the CRS had arranged a 40-mile police escort for the students from Daytona Beach to Sanford.

I would love to see it. In all reality, California should be at least 5, if not 7 states based on logical/regional divisions and interests. Same with Illinois, slice off the Chicago area--Cook and Lake county into one state and let downstate have their own state.

It would certainly make for a bold (and appropriate) slogan to put on a campaign button.

No. There's only one Bay Area, thank goodness. Even Los Angeles isn't as bad as the Bay Area... Also, I read an article earlier this year that suggests that the state Republicans are starting to regain ground in the Central Valley because the locals there are finally starting to realize that a stupid fish is destroying the area's primary source of income - i.e. farming.

In some ways, I think the media is missing the bigger story on Spitzer. Spitzer's biggest offense (in my mind anyway) was his use of the power of government to bully his opponents and make a name for himself. He relentlessly pursued Wall Street -- in a bad way -- and used the power of the law to do it. For all his sanctimony, he was not willing and able to abide by the same laws he so mercilessly held other people to.
In a weird way, Spitzer's situation reminds me of the parable of the unmerciful servent that I remember from Sunday School:
Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him. Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.
"The servant fell on his knees before him. ‘Be patient with me,’ he begged, ‘and I will pay back everything.’ The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.
"But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. He grabbed him and began to choke him. ‘Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded.
"His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.’
"But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. When the other servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed and went and told their master everything that had happened.
"Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.

Well they were admitted to the union on their own petition based on the premise that they were "Colorado" So I think not only would the state have to agree to split...both halves, but the Congress who admitted them in the first place would also have to agree.
That's why California will never be split into two states. The majority in the South that exploit the minority in the north would never allow their personal water supply it's own sovereignty, because then we could charge them for the water they take from us, or, not give it to them at all and reinvigorate our farming communities.

In California haven't many parts of LA tried to secede, but LA won't let them?
-----------
I don't think so. I could be mistaken, but I don't think that it's the city proper that most of the unincorporated areas try to secede from. Instead, I think it's primarily the LA Unified School District. The district covers the entirety of unincorporated LA, which essentially means that anywhere in the county is potentially a part of the district. It's too big, and everyone knows it, and it has problems in part because of that. But the city can't afford to split the district up because then it wouldn't be able to use the richer areas (who would split off into their own school district) to subsidize the poorer areas.
The city doesn't seem to have an issue with alternate arrangements. Pasadena, which is an incorporated city, essentially runs all of the public services (police, fire, school, etc...) in adjacent Altadena, which is an unincorporated part of LA.

Gentlemen! We've got to protect our phoney baloney jobs! Harrumph!
I believe that the statehood question could get on the ballot, and that it would pass. Not sure the CO legislature would present it to Congress for their consideration. Almost damn sure it would have a hard time clearing Congress, depending on which party has the upper hand at the time. And even if it DID pass Congress, expect legal challenges from various corners for the rest of our natural lives.

1. The dems will overreach as always
2. Inflation will rise, and when people can't buy what they're accustomed to on X salary or even on the government check then they're going to wake up
Of course if we didn't have a state-run media or if we had a functional opposition party I think it wouldn't come to this, but that's the cards we've been dealt this hand.

I said no thanks. That's one good thing about being single with no kids. You don't feel a responsibility to accept misery for the good of others.

Family... Court... Judge.... she is not used to:
1. Having DEFENSE Lawyers in the Room (Family Court very very often does not even have a Defense Lawyer in the room).
2. Giving a Fair Hearing to the Defense... Family Court Judges are ALWAYS on the side of the State... and Against MEN... almost without exception.
Thus... she is just doing the Job as she Learned it from Family Court.

Don't forget about the slaps to the face by that one Viet Cong guy to force DeNiro and Walken to put the gun to their heads and pull the trigger. The judge will probably do that to Zimmerman by the end of the day.

I would think the judge is building in some reversible error, except for the fact that this a political persecution prosecution, and no doubt the appeals courts will have their own marching orders.
Think Florida appeals courts -- 2000 election.

Yeah, sure, if we stuck to Cicero and the Rule of Law and all that I think we'd be better off. I don't think the American Legal system as currently constituted is a faithful representation of the ideals they pretend to adhere to.

Not unless you add RICH to that mix. I know a lot of people who moved to that area and not even in the city. The cost of living is through the roof, especially in housing. Those people I knew who moved there were somewhere else within a year.

No.
And I say that after a long career as an appellate lawyer.

A Republic is based on the rule of Law... if the law is not enforced equally, a Republic cannot exist.
I have said it before... they are trying to destroy the very foundation of this country, ie, the rule of Law.... this is part of the direct assault on 'the Republic, for which it stands"...
Ben Franklin was Prophetic.... 'a Republic Maam, if you can keep it'...

Nothing is harder to do than to keep an innocent defendant from testifying. This scrunt judge just knows that Z wants to get up there and set the record straight. But it's the dumbest thing he can do right now.
I think West is trying to tell this to Z and keep him from being bullied onto that stand by the Judge.

Do ya think that *might* be appealable there Juris Doctor? Maybe? God I wonder what people learn in law school sometimes. Law is just a hobby of mine and I know that fails about 16 different tests for what you *cant* do.
