(1) "This can't possibly work. The people who put this together were totally incompetent."
(2) "This can't possibly work. The people who put this together were diabolical geniuses, with a plan to disastrously cripple private medicine to pave the way for single-payer."
I myself incline to the school of thought in (1).
But I also believe that we are going to see the consequence, deliberate or not, postulated in (2). That the private medical system in America will fall apart from Obamacare, and that the left will then push for single-payer to fill that vacuum.
And I expect this to happen right around the time that the insolvent government is becoming utterly unable to pay for anything more of anything at all. So: no private medicine and no government medicine equals... no medicine.
Do you have bad health habits? Better get rid of them pronto. Do you engage in activities which might injure you? Better give those up, stat.Your health will become an exceedingly valuable personal asset once its deficiencies can no longer be medically attended to.

And then it becomes the new normal, and the next generation of conservatives harks back to the leftism of the past as the "conservative" option.
Nowadays conservatives say "MLK would never approve this racial grievance system!" In the 1960s, they'd talk about Lincoln. In the 1860s, the Founding Fathers.
I predict that in 2040, the conservatives will be fighting some new privacy-invading outrage or maybe single-payer, and they'll say "but Obama would never have gone for this!"

koff delegation doctrine koff
Posted by: alexthechick
Aside from being toothless, the non-delegation doctrine can't really come into play when the statute itself clocked in at nearly 1000 pages. This is the result of a massive overreaching statute, not federal agency workers gone wild (though I'm sure there's plenty of that)
Just remember, there are NO conscience exemptions in Obamacare unless you are a "religious" non-profit, and you will be forced to pay into a special fund that only covers abortions if your plan offers them to anyone.
You.
personally.
Must.
Give.
At least $1 a month to an escrowed fund that exists ONLY to pay for elective abortions.
You don't want to pay?
Fuck you.
You Don't want to be covered?
Fuck you.
Your employer doesn't want to cover abortifacient chemicals?
Fuck you.
Your money is going directly from your pocket to Planned Parenthood. That's a hell of a lot different from a great big income tax pool. THis is direct payment without ability to object.
That's in the statute, too, not just the regs.
Obamacare is an abomination in the truest sense of the word.

The link Drudge posted wrt vet bills is even worse than just the costs going up; one doctor seems to imply that some hospitals may not be able to afford quality equipment at all, which means their equipment may not be up to snuff for surgeries on our pets:
"Hatcher said, “Putting off an equipment purchase is something that can terribly affect our clients’ ability to have quality care.”"
I'm willing to pay rising costs for pet care, but now it looks like pet owners will have to ask their vets if the hospital's up to standard before scheduling a surgery. This terrifies me.

ITA. I've long believed that PETA secretly hates dogs and cats because they are decimating the population with their aggressive spay/neuter programs. If PETA had their way, there would be no more alley cats and without alley cats means a rise in the rat population. And we all know what that means. Besides, alley cats often make the best pets and PETA is waging a genocide against them.

Here in Canada, my then 84 year old father had to wait over a year to see a foot specialist because it was painful to walk. He outsmarted the system and lived to make the appointment.
Ten minutes. A prescription for new inserts for his shoes.
Not uncommon. I get great care at my family doctor. Fantastic guy. But it takes about 2 months to get an appointment. My uncle was once given an appointment about 4 months out. You just keep going in first thing in the morning, they don't really answer phones, hoping someone cancelled and they can get you in sooner.
I wonder what it's going to be like when my province's finances are no longer worse than California's but more like Greece.

One of the principles of the law is that to be effective a law must be published, so that citizens may know what it is they must conform their behavior to. A secret law is no law at all. Thus, for public laws, we rightly say that "ignorance of the law" is no excuse, because the citizen has had a reasonable opportunity to know what is expected of him, and to act accordingly.
A corollary to this is that a law, though published, that is too vague to be understood by a reasonable man, is null and void. They call this Constitutional argument the "void for vagueness" argument. Essentially, if a law is too vague to be understood and acted upon by citizens, it violates due process.
What then are we to make of this law called Obamacare? How exactly are men supposed to conform their behavior to this monstrosity? Do you know what's in the Obamacare regulations? Does anyone? And, if not, do we still live under the rule of law? Or do we live at the mercy of a bureaucracy in Washington, that may order us about as it chooses?

>>Fishing for what, Garrett? Early trout?<<
Yep. We have an early stonefly hach up here. A bug called the 'Skwala', #8 dries!
It's still early in the hatch, but the fish are starting to look up more every day. We put 15 or 20 in the boat, today. All on the dry fly.
We would have had more, but my buddies were a bit heavy on the hook-set today. They left a lot of nice bugs in big fish...my bugs.
Now I have to tie more.

Back alley medicine --or we could just call this PAY for it yourself and just get a "stop loss" policy (otherwise known as major medical) to cover big expenses from unexpected shit. This was standard back in the old days when I was a kid. Not a lot of dying in the streets happened.
Of course it will now have to be 'back alley' rather than a known clinic so they don't incur the legal obligations to treat for free the low-life scum who blew all their money on gold caps, blow and tattoos. Because government cant stop passing laws to be compassionate at other people's expense.

Posted by: HeatherRadish™, Crankypants Extraordinaire at March 12, 2013 06:09 PM (hO8IJ)
I would do that in a NY minute, but something tells me that it's not going to be an option. If I could get a major med policy for a couple hundred a month and bank the other $500 a month, it would be a huge win/win for me. So, probably not an option under the new Euro-style socialist medicine.

I always think I have enough flies until the clients start showing up...then I remember that I can't possibly tie enough to decorate every tree and bush over a 12 mile stretch of river!
There are few pursuits in life that can match the satisfaction that successfully fishing with your own flies generates.
Your granddaughter is lucky to have someone who is willing to share that experience with her.

The effective date of the 2010 Standards generally is March 15, 2012. However, and in response to public comments and concerns, the Department has extended the date for compliance for the requirements related to the provision of accessible entry and exit to existing swimming pools, wading pools, and spas to January 31, 2013.

The move has been in the works for several years. The Justice Department published standards for accessibility in 2010 and announced a March 2012 deadline for compliance. But confusion over the standards became so contentious that pool operators threatened coast-to-coast pool closures last spring, a scare dubbed "Poolmagedden."
In response to the uproar, the Department of Justice moved the deadline to Jan. 31, sought to clarify the rule and grandfathered in some equipment that was purchased by pool operators during the debacle. The Justice Department also reiterated that pool operators need to provide access to existing pools only if it is "readily achievable," meaning it does not involve significant difficulty or expense.
