I myself incline to the school of thought in (1).

But I also believe that we are going to see the consequence, deliberate or not, postulated in (2). That the private medical system in America will fall apart from Obamacare, and that the left will then push for single-payer to fill that vacuum.

And I expect this to happen right around the time that the insolvent government is becoming utterly unable to pay for anything more of anything at all. So: no private medicine and no government medicine equals... no medicine.

Do you have bad health habits? Better get rid of them pronto. Do you engage in activities which might injure you? Better give those up, stat.Your health will become an exceedingly valuable personal asset once its deficiencies can no longer be medically attended to.

Aside from being toothless, the non-delegation doctrine can't really come into play when the statute itself clocked in at nearly 1000 pages.  This is the result of a massive overreaching statute, not federal agency workers gone wild (though I'm sure there's plenty of that)

Just remember, there are NO conscience exemptions in Obamacare unless you are a "religious" non-profit, and you will be forced to pay into a special fund that only covers abortions if your plan offers them to anyone.

78 Rush was talking about the Five Guys story today, where they told their employees that Obamacare was a complete disaster.  They went on to inform their employees of the nuts and bolts about it, that they will be forced to purchase or face a $2K fine, and all the other assorted and sundry bullcrap of the bill.  The employees were gobsmacked and had no earthly idea what was in this disaster POS bill and how it would affect them.  IOW, they were completely unaware of how screwed we all are.  As this catastrophe unfolds, it will be interesting to see how people who have no idea what's coming will take the news on how f*cked up this is.

The link Drudge posted wrt  vet bills is even worse than just the costs going up;    one doctor seems to imply that some hospitals may not be able to afford   quality equipment at all,   which means their equipment may not be up to snuff for surgeries on our pets:

Might be a good time to be a hospice nurse...Our betters at headquarters are on us daily as to why our hospice numbers are down.. Maybe a good reply would be "just give it time". It's  a stressful enough job as it is, will be even harder knowing we are getting them not because THEY gave up treatment but that treatment was not even available to them. Here in Canada, my then 84 year old father had to wait over a year to see a foot specialist because it was painful to walk. He outsmarted the system and lived to make the appointment.

Ten minutes. A prescription for new inserts for his shoes.

Not uncommon. I get great care at my family doctor. Fantastic guy. But it takes about 2 months to get an appointment. My uncle was once given an appointment about 4 months out. You just keep going in first thing in the morning, they don't really answer phones, hoping someone cancelled and they can get you in sooner.

I wonder what it's going to be like when my province's finances are no longer worse than California's but more like Greece.

279 My husband found another mole.  Went to the doctor who treated him last time (if you remember he had cancer on his poor wee wee).  This one is on his inner thigh.  Doctor froze it off and said if it comes back, see me.  It came back, doctor says to make an appt for a biopsy.  The appt was for 5 weeks out!!  I said what???  Did you tell the dumb receptionist this appt for a biopsy that the doctor said looked suspicious??  I am dumbfounded.  So now we wait to even get the biopsy to find out if he has cancer again.

I don't remember falling of course but I do know that I fractured my arm and sprained my ankle. My finger tips got pretty shredded too and the thing that hurt the most was my cracked finger nail. Some are going to brutally cut their workers back to 29 hours a week so they can escape the penalties. Others are going to find new ways to self-insure. Lots of companies with low-wage workers and pay for health insurance are going to drop their insurance altogether. Many low-wage employees are better off not being covered by employers, since they can get their (subsidized) health insurance cheaper in the exchanges. Employer pays the 2K per head fine, points to the box on the w2 that says how much employer health benefits are worth, and then pays the employee their health benefits in salary (minus the 2K fine), and explains how their insurance will be cheaper with Obamacare. It's going to be a massive clusterfuck...just in time for the 2014 elections.

I stayed at a hotel last weekend whose pool, and Hot tub, were closed because of the American for disabilitys act..... ie since you couldn't get there with a wheel chair.... no one could use it...

 

Congress does not have to abide by the ADA....

Yep.  We have an early stonefly hach up here.  A bug called the 'Skwala',  #8 dries! 

It's still early in the hatch, but the fish are starting to look up more every day.  We put 15 or 20 in the boat, today.  All on the dry fly. 

We would have had more, but my buddies were a bit heavy on the hook-set today.  They left a lot of nice bugs in big fish...my bugs.

Now I have to tie more.

375 I work in healthcare strategic planning and from my perspective I see the industry developing along these lines in 10-15 years: 1) The public system where everyone treated has medicare/medicaid/inevitable "public option" thats comparable to the VA hospitals 2) Private system where its concierge based (as tmi3rd mentioned) but taken a step further where entire hospital systems are concierge Health "insurance" as we know it will be dead by the end of the decade. We were all given front row tickets to the actuarial death spiral main event with the passage of Obamacare and its guaranteed issue community rating protocols. The good news is the mandate will all be meaningless in the end.

I would do that in a NY minute, but something tells me that it's not going to be an option.  If I could get a major med policy for a couple hundred a month and bank the other $500 a month, it would be a huge win/win for me.  So, probably not an option under the new Euro-style socialist medicine.

Back in the old days an extended stay in the Hospital might set ya back a bit, but now it will break both you and the Insurance Company so even those "Catastrophic" policies are expensive

The idea that any one person, or any group of people, could have ANY concept of what is in that law is laughable. Sure, bits and pieces can be parsed, but there is no possible way for anyone to understand the full scope and implications. And, as pointed out above, that's not even taking into account the regs.

414 I don't know Peaches.   I would expect that the HMO has rules about the docs seeing non-HMO patients seeing as how they provide the clinics and all. 

Until my work started the HSA option a few years ago the HMO was the cheapest insurance option,  and also appealed to me as I'm very lazy about wanting to keep up medical records, pick out a doc and so on.

418 PaleRider, depending on your income level, the HSA may be a money-saver for you.  And, please, check with your docs.  I'm pretty sure they haven't sold their souls so completely to the HMO that they are not allowed to engage in commerce with patients willing to actually pay a fair price for their services.
