White House Message of the Day: Obama Leads By Signing Up For Obamacare Through Website
Except He Didn't "Lead;" We're At the Deadline
And Except He Didn't Sign Up Himself
And Except He Didn't Use the Website

— Ace

But other than that, the White House is honest and candid as usual.

First: Why would Obama wait until the deadline, if he sought to convince people to sign up months ago, and if there's a good chance that any traffic today will crash the system?

Here's a possibility: He was actually trying to sign up earlier but only now succeeded.

Second: Just like ordinary citizens, Obama took advantage of Healthcare.gov's fast and intuitive interface to sign himself up.

Except... he had staffers do it.

You're not supposed to "get it," Gabe. The sentence is gibberish, and deliberately so. It's designed to mislead people, but is written in such a nonsensical manner that you can't quite pin down the intended meaning, and thus cannot accuse them of lying.

Which brings us to Third:

What they mean is that Obama didn't sign himself up; he had workers grinding their way through the process on his behalf. By "involved in the process," they mean they asked him which policy he wanted and he said "the cheapest," because his coverage is provided by the US Military.

And they mean that he didn't use the website, though that's supposedly "fixed" and he's telling everyone else to use it. "Signed up in person" means he utilized top HHS IT officials, entering data directly into the system, to execute this symbolic gesture.

I'm certain that his information isn't available on the black-hole-of-security-failures system. It was probably hand-deleted a moment after being entered.

So, Obama led by example by waiting until the last possible minute and then making other people clean up his mess and used special privileges to avoid the hardships he's imposing on others.

I mean look at Virginia's governors election in which a bunch of whackadoo GOP hardcore crazy conservatives lost while a moderate, clean as the driven snow democrat won.* This election loss surely has nothing to do with changing demographics as democrats grab the million or so immigrants a year and bus them to the polls before shacking them up on welfare. * by a plurality but fuck you for noticing.

31 Ace you're burying the lede. White House Admits to Insurance Fraud, Staffers Enrolled Obama in Health Plan Despite His Absence An insurance plan is a CONTRACT. You agree to pay a fee and the insurance company agrees to provide services. If you don't pay, they can cancel your service. If you violate certain terms, they can sue you. Similarly, if you're current on your premiums and they refuse to cover a service which should be covered, you can sue them. It's a contract. That means it must be signed *by the person purchasing the policy.* You cannot purchase a policy for someone else (unless they are a minor and you are their guardian). If his staffers signed him up without him present, they committed insurance fraud. If TFG instructed them to, then he solicited insurance fraud.

49 If the Beltway GOP had any spines, they should and would have challenged Obama to personally sign up for Obamacare via the Healthcare.gov site on live television, unrehearsed.

If the POTUS himself had the Web site do a 404 face plant, that would have been the end of Obamacare right on the spot, and essentially the end of this clown-show Presidency as well.

It's one of those offers where the optics of declining would be equally horrible.

Of course, you could count on the bastards to have tried to rig it if they had any warning, set up a Potemkin parallel process designed to run with apparent smoothness for certain input parameters.

Not sure how to get around that. Perhaps a similar challenge in which Obama is asked to look over the shoulder of a randomly selected Jane Workaday or Joe Sixpack as they attempt to submit their own application via the site.

So now I guess your going to fine me . Awesome , that's awesome !! I got laid off , went thru a divorce with my exwife ,and I also been fighting in a custody battle for my son for almost 3 years against my sons mother . But you expect me to come up with $500 a month for insurance or pay a fine . Its so awesome that the government knows what's best for us young people in our individual lives at this time ." "good afternoon Mr. President... i would like to let you know how much turmoil you have created in my life....and now my insurance rates are increasing by a little over $200.00 ...it has been a complete joke trying to get in on the websites (i am from NY) and then getting someone on the phone is a completely different, yet just as frustrating, story.... ...if i didn't require health insurance ( i have celiac disease), i would pay the penalties and go without. ...how easy did you find it to get your health insurance through the government website? since today is 12/23, i will most likely have to go without health insurance for a month..... ...what i can't figure out is why i can by a pair of socks, books, or anything else i want online with great ease and a credit card, yet, i can't seem to do the same with health insurance....."

63 What they mean is that Obama didn't sign himself up; he had workers grinding their way through the process on his behalf. As everyone else has noted, that is straight up insurance fraud. There are some things that have to be signed by the person and/or a valid power of attorney and I am damn well sure that whomever it was who actually did this does not have the President's power of attorney. This does bring to mind one of my all time favorite throwaway bits in a movie. It's in Air Force One and President Harrison Ford is talking to people when his secretary comes over and hands him stuff to sign. He signs without looking and then says hey what was that and she's all oh it's nothing important. It's really hilarious if you've ever had a boss like that and could have handed him a bonus check to you for $100,000 or, say if your boss is the President, a declaration of war and scribble scribble sign.

67 that may be too smart by a half. Couldn't he designate signing authority? Power of attorney or the like? Could he? Sure. Did he? Almost certainly not. And POA is a BIG thing. There are a bunch of LIVs who would perk up upon hearing that some low-level staffer literally had the Presidents life in his hands- even if only for a couple days. They may not understand esoteric policy details (like: "No, you can't keep your plan") but they deal with POAs in their every-day lives. Also remember that POA is a legal document, and must be filed with the correct legal authority- something that usually takes at least a few days, simply from a logistics standpoint.

132 I would assume that some aide or staffer has a POA just to make sure personal expenses are paid for on trips, so that he doesn't run afoul of any laws against gifts. I wouldn't. Most of that is paid for by an expense account. I'm certain someone has signing authority on the expense account- but that's hugely different from POA. I can be a signer on your bank account- fully authorized to spend your money- without having POA. It would take POA to, for instance, close out your account, open a new one, and rack up a million dollars in credit charges. Or to buy an insurance policy.

It would not surprise me if they flew insurance executives to Hawaii to handle it.

I'm just wondering if anybody told Obama yet.

169 Is obama hanging out with his only friend who is also a convicted "John"?

171 Today, I signed up for a medical-bill-sharing membership. I expect Obama to declare this illegal as soon as it comes to his attention, but there is a provision in the ACA as passed that allows for bill-sharing memberships. First time without insurance for years.

172 golfing in Hawaii

Thank you.

Losing marine sock, still without a pun for Yanmar and not going back to the other thread and trying a Volvo pun on the Christian lady who could kick my ass.

How out of touch is the White House Clown Corps.?  So out of touch that they would actually claim he was "leading" by engaging (by proxy) in a totally contrived and meaningless kabuki.

And the media won't say shit, because if there's one thing they love about him, it's his ability to engage (by proxy) in totally contrived and meaningless kabuki.

174 Which cost taxpayers more: (1) Sending Barky, Mooch and their bairns to Hawaii for a seventeen day vacation, or (2) Tying up WH staffers' time to enroll Barky in 404Care? Gotta admit it's a horse race!

Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars [/i] [/b] [/s] at December 23, 2013 01:37 PM (JXtHh)

175 That was cold saying that at least Barky still has to wake up next to the Mooch. He misses Reggy Love, but maybe he can come back through ChiTown and visit Pajama Boy. They can toss back a couple of cups of cocoa, reminisce about signing up for Obamacare. Then they can see what develops IYKWIMAiTYD.

176 I am stuck in limbo on webpage and on phone: one page says application completed, but other page says I am not enrolled yet, but when I TRY to see coverage details, I get caught in a loop! EXTREMELY TIRESOME!

177 More comments This program is crap I filled out for mother who is on disability doesn't qualify for Medicare yet and the cheapest plan is about 400.00 for just her with 25,000.00 deduct she cant afford her bills and meds now and with this plan not a penny paid even for scripts till deduct met so she'd pay for insurance that won't cover anything this is a joke

178 Some more comments I am frustrated to the max ! I have been trying for over a week to get the application fishised. Because of the computer being down, they did a paper application, and told me to call back in 48 hrs. to complete it. Yesterday evening I held for 2 hrs. After 2 hrs's. of holding, I was told the computer was down for maintenance until 4:00 a.m., I called back, and held for a long time. Exhaustion overtook me, and I had to sleep. Now holding again. Prior to this week, I have tried and tried to get this done. I am sick of this. SO NOW YOU ARE NOT TAKING ANY CALLS???? I enrolled over a week ago and haven't heard anything from the insurance company. When I try to pay via the number provided, my social security number isn't in their system... and they aren't answering their phones. After being left on hold for an hour, I tried to call the healthcare.gov number and guess what? They aren't accepting any calls!!!! Well, I'm sorry but I have to work for a living and I've already wasted 3 hours today on nothing. I can't spend any more time on this.

179 I personally landed on the moon in 1969. Ok, I watched it on TV, but I was involved.

180 Some more comments I can't afford to sign up.. 300.00+ dollars a month with a 26.00 subsidy. ...guess I will be uninsured and taxed This healthcare is not compatible to every situation, the site has so many glitches it is ridiculous. Finally applied on line and they do not have reasonable plans for college students that are full-time. Their lowest plan was $118.00 per month and that didn't cover everything. Before offering to the public they should have ironed out all the glitches, and made a reasonable attempt to cover everyone, not those that are working, but the don't haves, that need coverage. I have called 7 times every time they have to do a new application so I have been on the phone 11hrs total and still as of today they told me they are having problem with my new app I give up this healthcare.gov is a JOKE .. Enroll today? I have tried over a dozen times to enroll. I was the biggest cheerleader of the ACA I cant get on the PA marketplace Cuz Corbett never set one up for PA> so after the marketplace being screwed up for all of October I finaly called and had the paper forms sent to my house. After Manually filling out all the papers they still couldn't get me on. So I have verbally enrolled 4 times over the phone. Friday the 20th I thought it was finally all set. One hour 40 minutes on the phone. To hear oh sorry it is finished but it wont allow me to process it. Call on Monday ( the last day to sign up) and they will be able to process it then. Well guess what another hour on the phone and they still cant process . They wanted me to fill out another app. That would be 3 apps on line, one manually done and mailed in and 4 apps filled out over the phone, YEA RIGHT SEE YOU LATER ACA youhave FAILED miserably here.Fine me for not having health care? You should have paid me for the hours lost filling out these and wasting my time. People need to be fired over this

181 I am one of many whose household income is not enough for a subsidy, but still cannot qualify for Medicaid because we have some but very little savings. All we have coming in is my husbands S.S. which before Medicare and a prescription plan is $1,100. a month. After deductions for the afore-mentioned it is $960. a month. If we don't eat, heat the house, or pay our other utilities, we could afford insurance for me. I think the powers that be need to live in the real world.

Posted by: Patrick from Ohio at December 23, 2013 02:09 PM (b6koZ)

182 Wait a second. Is it actually lawful to sign somebody else up? Nevermind, I forgot about who I was talking about. Lawful, pffffft. Next thing you know they'll be doing us all a "favor" by signing us up. Let's hope they don't have access to our SS numbers and tax returns.

183 So the personal information of the President of the US--some of which he paid a lot of money to have sealed so no one could access it during either election--is now floating around a government website with roughly the same level security as Hello Kitty Island Adventure? I'm not going to say hackers SHOULD hunt for it, but I'd understand if they did...

184 So they had a stand-in sign him up. wonder what birthdate they used?

Posted by: Buffalobob at December 23, 2013 03:12 PM (RZBmV)

185 More to the point, Obama and his handlers claimed he signed up for OCare but is going to continue getting his medical treatment through the military system. So he signed up for it but he's not even going to use it.

186 "POTUS wasn't present, but involved."

There's a chicken-pig joke in there, somewhere.

187 Why wait till the last minute, and why have his staff do it for him? Because every time he uses that phoney Conneticut SSN it's a felony.

188 And Except They Didn't Actually Enroll Him in a Plan

Yeah, they've already walked back the whole "Obama enrolled..." nonsense.

They basically just 'selected a plan' for him.  Didn't actually enroll him in one.

189 PRANK OBAMA by sending him a letter telling him that his Military Health Insurance Plan has been CANCELLED.  Heh.
