Why Obamacare is different [Fritzworth]
— Open Blogger

OK, fellow Morons, gather 'round, because I'm going to provide a simple demonstration of why Obamacare is so much different than all the tropes the Left uses to try to scare voters away from those eeeeevil Rethuglicans. While I must admit up front that this is a self-selected group that visits Ace of Spades daily, it is also a very large group. So, let's do a simple experiment.

First, let's visit the standard Left shrieking points.

1) How many of you know someone who died in Hurricane Katrina? (Just thought I'd get that out of the way.)

2) How many of you know someone (including yourself) who was a valid registered voter and who was denied the chance to vote due to Voter ID laws?

3) How many of you know someone (including yourself) who was unable to afford birth control due to a lack of health insurance?

4) How many of you know someone (including yourself) who was denied the chance to have an abortion, due to state regulations?

5) How many of you know someone (including yourself) who has been laid off due to the Federal budget sequester?

6) How many of you know someone (including yourself) who was furloughed during the brief Federal Government shutdown and then did not get back pay for the time furloughed?

7) How many of you know someone (including yourself) who was unable to find a meaningful job because of Right to Work legislation in the state where they live?

Now for the flip side:

How many of you know someone (including yourself) who had their existing health insurance policy cancelled as a result of Obamacare, and who are now looking at options that are more expensive and have higher deductibles? (My own hand goes up.)

9) How many of you know someone (including yourself) who works for a business whose health insurance coverage is either going to be eliminated or become more expensive as a result of Obamacare?

Show of hands, everyone?

Yep, what I pretty much thought.

Note that most of the Left's boogiemen -- items 1-7 -- are just that -- largely imaginary, except for the occasional OFA worker who gets press coverage for her 15 minutes of fame. But I suspect that the vast majority of the voting population can't answer yes to question 1-7.

On the other hand, between now and November 2014, I am willing to bet that the vast majority of the voting population will answer yes to questions 8 and 9. And that is why, in spite of the Left's desperate attempts to find some equivalents between the burgeoning Obamacare debacle and the sins of the Right (as they define them), it's really no contest.

Should be interesting. ..fritz..

My contract got killed due to sequester on September 29th.  Of course, walked into another one in a different department on September 30th.

The healthcare issue, though should be interesting.  Technically, I'm exempt due to VA coverage, but I purchase through my employer anyway.  Whether or not I continue to do so remains to be seen.

Political power, whether it means wealth plus security in that high-rise condo in Shanghai, or whether it means they can pursue their non-reproductive sexual agendas unmolested ("C'm'ere, l'il puppy, bring the  dildo!"), or whether they can evangelize the unwary to offering the perfect sacrifice to their god, Moloch, an abortion.

And voter fraud gets a boost, too. A Katrina victim is entitled to 1.5 votes for the prestige party.

83 How is this a trump card when the law expands indiv. insurance to preexisting conditions and the GOP has no alternate plans for that. Not that they need one right now, but they didn't before either. I guess it depends on who specifically the people without insurance are but it's not like there won't be pressure on the GOP not to reverse that once it kicks in, and it's pretty connected to the other parts. Think a post here even said ideally we should cover preexisting conditions but it's just too expensive. That's not exactly a rock solid argument

91 44 Who here listened to the media and took a Katrina family into their own house?

Posted by: Dack Thrombosis at November 21, 2013 06:20 PM (oFCZn)

The couple I know moved with their two kids and dog into a house in Ohio owned by the wife's grandmother (the wife's mother had been living in the house but was committed to a nursing home for dementia shortly before Katrina happened).  They proceded to live there rent-free, refused to even pay the annual property taxes or keep up the yard (the city threatened them with fines if they didn't mow the lawn - if you knew the city you would know how bad their lawn would have had to have been for that to happen).  They had three more kids and got one more dog and still. live there today, never once having given their grandmother a dime to help pay the taxes and insurance on the house.  The grandmother died this year and left the house to them, so I suppose now they have to pay the taxes on it.

When they first fled New Orleans to Ohio the wife's extended family raised money for them (several thousand dollars).  My friend (the sister-in-law of the wife) personally drove the husband around town to apply for jobs.  Less than a month later she discovered this couple had trashed her, the extended family, and the whole town (called them backwards, rednecks, wished they were back in the more enlightened city of New Orleans, etc.) on their personal blog.  I saw what they posted.. utterly ungrateful and disgusting.

96 My friend came to me
With sadness in his eyes
He told me that he wanted help
Before his country dies

Although I couldn't feel the pain
I knew I had to try
Now I'm asking all of you
To help us save some lives

ObamaCare, ObamaCare
Where so many people are dying fast
And it sure looks like a mess
I've never seen such distress

Now won't you lend your hand and understand?
Relieve the people of ObamaCare

ObamaCare, ObamaCare
Such a great disaster, I don't understand
But it sure looks like a mess
I've never known such distress

Now please don't turn away
I want to hear you say
Relieve the people of ObamaCare
Relieve ObamaCare

ObamaCare, ObamaCare
Now it may seem so far from where we all are
It's something we can't neglect
It's something I can't neglect

Now won't you give some bread to get the starving fed?
We've got to relieve ObamaCare
Relieve the people of ObamaCare
We've got to relieve ObamaCare
Relieve the people of ObamaCare

Well, uh, it just so happens I *do* know someone just like that. In not quite the same circumstances. She didn't have health cover through work beforehand.

But...

As she relayed it to me, she had had her hours at work painfully cut back from 40 to 29 because of what she refers to as "that damn ACA Act thing."

So she's not losing coverage per se. What she's losing are work hours. Because of the damn ACA Act.

She doesn't know that the ACA _is_ Obamacare.

But I get fucked because being that I am enrolled in a high deductible plan, I pay everything from 0$ to $2500.

And, I had a colonoscopy scheduled for Dec 6th, since I had already met my deductible for the year.  Now, I either cancel it, or pay the $2500 deductible (assuming here it would be that much - at Christmas time, no less).  I got fucked out of a month of deductible thanks to Obama.  Fuck you, you JEF!

127 Usually liberals can get away with it when they slowly boil the frog, but they cranked it up to 11 too quickly.  It also has ties in directly with the big government liberalism that "progressives" have been pushing.  Much bigger than something like Katrina or Iran Contra that were scandals that didn't tie into people rexamining their ideology.

Most of the liberals' boogiemen in general are imaginary, and ironically, most of what Social Conservatives push in the political arena that creates many of these boogiemen is also absurd.  It has ZERO chance of ever actually becoming law.

So we have two sides that make sure every election we talk about something like abortion, when only the idiots on both sides actually believe there's ever going to be an America where say rape victims can't get an abortion.

Losing your insurance, not being able to afford a new plan, AND HAVING TO PAY 1% OF YOUR INCOME TO THE IRS FOR NOT HAVING YOUR INSURANCE - borderline revolution. It's that last group that we need to get on TV ASAP over and over and over. Run it nationwide. Find the perfect person: female, voted for Obama, makes 45K a year (just not enough to qualify), lost insurance, couldn't get new insurance because either the website fucked up or it was too expensive, had medical costs out of pocket because uninsured, and then had to pay the goddamn fine for being uninsured. Find this person. There will be millions of them. Find the most sympathetic, and spend $1 billion nationwide running her story over and over and over. 148 I was actually almost denied the right to vote. We vote by mail in WA state. I get my mail at a property I own, which is where I am registered to vote and the same address used on my driver's license. You have to understand that they continue to deliver mail to this address for people that haven't lived there in three years, no matter how many times I refuse the mail.

Two weeks before the election, my mail carrier decided on his/her own to start returning my mail. They labeled it undeliverable with no forwarding address. I didn't find this out, until they returned my pay stub to my employer. I'd already requested a second ballot to be mailed and of course, hadn't gotten that either.  I went to complain at the post office. Initially, they tried to tell me that the mail carriers could decided whether or not someone actually lived at a residence. I told her in no uncertain terms that I was getting my mail there and that I would put in a change of address should I ever decided to get my mail at another address.

She gave up at that point and sent out the supervisor, who apologized and tried to say it was an innocent mistake. I told him I'd file a complaint against the carrier if it happened again. I requested a third ballot, which I did receive in time to vote at the election. Need I say that I am the only person at that address that gets flyers from Hillsdale College? I hate vote by mail.
