*If They Want To
— Ace I don't know -- seems to be a curious sort of "equality." You're equal only if you volunteer to be.
There are a lot of issues here, and women's rights are just one of them. Another issue is whether humankind's inborn squeamishness about women suffering disfiguring or lethal trauma will cause problems in warfighting or decisionmaking about warfighting.
Of course we're squeamish about men suffering such horrific wounds, too. But one question that's always been open is "Would America be willing to fight any war if women started coming back scarred and maimed?"
Lot of big changes going on, including an end to the special exemption for some units if they said morale or readiness would suffer if they included openly-gay troops.
But at least we know the very best people are managing our military, people to whom the military and its history and its excellence have always been dear, people who themselves have a wealth of military experience themselves.

But I run an Interactive blog. It's my job to make you think -- and also, to make you look up things yourself. I pepper my posts, quite deliberately, with what I call "little mysteries for my readers to solve."
Little mysteries like: Was it Aristotle or Socrates who said that, and further, who cares?
Or: How do you actually spell Sharyl Attkisson? I kind of give you a Multiple Choice test every time the name comes up, giving you four or five versions of the spelling, permitting you, the Engaged Reader, to select the spelling that makes the most sense to you.
Other bloggers don't have that level of respect for their readers. I alone do.

30 per cent of senior officers are expelled for sexual misconduct. It is not that the military is less moral than it used to be, its that there are more women in it.
It is unrealistic to pretend to take people, put them in high stress situations, away from family and spouses for extended periods of time, and expect them not to ever have sex. See David Petraeus and a host of others.
The first Navy ships to have women on them experienced a huge pregnancy rate, to the point that it hampered operations. Out of wedlock births in the military have skyrocketed. This is not an equality problem, it is a potentially huge readiness problem.
Most women do not want the combat roles, and serve in support positions. I would be less concerned about a man rushing to protect a woman, than I would be about a woman being able to "have his back" should the wet-ass hour come. Its like the female firefighter, she has to be able to carry the gear and a comrade of necessary. I pray to G-d they do not lower standards to to this, but I know they will.
The new Air Force ad being broadcast appeals only to women. I am an AF vet, and a woman. This is a bad idea

Yup, that is Plato, who wrote dialogues in which Socrates is the main philosophical character, about 2,400 to 2,300 years ago.
Plato is my guy, and I would marry him for his mind and his money (he was born into a wealthy aristocratic family), but he did not approve of homosexuality, even if he was a bit gay.

The problem here is the men. They are not going to continue to do their jobs while a woman is wounded and screaming for help.
I can see a woman piloting a jet fighter ... but putting one in a front line infantry unit is not going to work well, unless the majority of the people in the unit are women.

WWII Soviet sniper Lyudmila Mykhailivna Pavlichenko was credited with 309 kills. When I attended XVIII Airborne Corps Recondo School, the class prior to mine had its first female graduate, and that was nearly 30 years ago. It was a tough course: of the 150 who started out in my class, 36 of us graduated. I'm told they made no special accommodations for her other than her own separate sleeping area while we were still training in-camp. Out in the field, she was treated like any other dirtbag Recondo wannabe. So yes, there are female warriors out there capable of handling the rigors of combat and combat training.
That said, I guarantee a great many unnecessary deaths as the result of this decision.

Stamina isn't a problem, as the women and outrun men easily over a long distance. The Ironman competitions were separated into divisions by sex in order to allow men to win once in a while.

The reason why it matters is because Aristotle disagreed with him a whole bunch and wrote treatises Ethics and Politics to demonstrate another line of thinking that doesn't include assuming humans can or should be ants. If one were to assume Aristotle promoted the Philosopher Kings, one might discount further study of Aristotle's political ideas and never know about the concept of the "good" government he proposed: the "Constitutional Republic" based on an armed Citizenry of moral upstanding people.

Sniper is a role that women do better at than men. they shoot as well as men, and 5/9ths of them have that fourth set of cones in their retina, and can spot artificial camouflage instantly.

And computers are going to do that shortly anyway. Just saw a demonstration of a system to make anyone a sniper. You lock your target (as viewed through a camera,) and when you get the gun lined up again, the computer fires it. Low cost, robust, and you don't have to worry about the details.
Combat robots are not far away.

I taught rifle marksmanship to female ROTC students when I was pulling SD as range NCOIC many, many moons ago. Teaching women how to shoot was a dream: they were teachable and quick to absorb fundamentals. I didn't get any of that 'My grandaddy taught me how to shoot when I was in diapers' shit. (Of course, the ones [invariably male] who resisted instruction equally invariably failed to qualify.)

So just think to yourself. If women are just as combat capable as men, why don't women play football in the NFL? or even college football? Why don't women compete against men in the UFC? Olympic boxing, wrestling and judo could be co-ed, what's holding them back? Hell, I used to be married to an Olympic athlete who was also a firefighter for the city of Albuquerque. She used to try and do the physical conditioning sessions with me and some of the professional fighters at Greg Jacksons gym. She was the first to admit that there are some definite differences between men and women when it came to strength, power and overall physical conditioning.
And don't think for a second that the standards are going to stay the same. They will dial everything down so that the first big group of female "pioneers" make it though. I saw it at the Air Force Academy back in the late 80s, and it's going to happen to the combat MOS's now. Final thought: Think any Generals or Sgt Majors will resign in protest? I personally doubt it, if none of them had the integrity to resign over having open homosexuals in the military, why would they grow a spine now?

But due to the power of EQUALITY (equal application of the law) if that boundary is knocked down, they should be REQUIRED to serve. Men would have a constitutional argument against discrimination.
What was that Alinsky tactic? Make them follow their own rules? If they can sue to demand equality, those hurt by being forced into combat roles ought to be able to sue to force women into those same roles.
The end result might be to thoroughly dissuade any women from joining the military, because they wouldn't have the required quota of women in combat positions, and they would be unfairly displacing a man in a non-combat position.
I wonder if any of these shit head liberals have thought of this unintended consequence?

The number of women who actually volunteer will be low. And when there is some risk of fighting, that number will go to zero. Or, every one already in a "combat" unit will immediately become pregnant. That's how this will go. I hope that those in command don't assume that more than 10% of them will actually be combat effective.
As for squeamishness about women coming back maimed, why should we feel any? They asked for it with their constant nagging and foot stomping. Let them have it War is ugly - not just an opportunity for career advancement. There are risks. Further, women have gotten the suffrage pretty damn cheaply - let them, collectively, earn it for once. Let them pay the price men have always paid. Then their ability to screw up the political process with their emotion drive votes will not be so irksome.

I'm not overestimating their competence. To the contrary, I am lately surprised that they ever have any sort of success at anything. To be fair though, the other side has nothing like the constant incoming rounds we get from the Media "Air" force.

Don't know what to tell ya about this. He says he had women in boot camp. Said a lot of bad things about them. Said they couldn't even carry their own packs on a cross country hike. He was not happy about it.

??? At boot camp they are not taught any particular specialty. In addition they would not have been any women in his unit at Parris Island. They are in in their own Battalion ( the 4TH). Now he would see them around base and might even PT with them at times, but that is about it in Boot Camp.

Informing you that he was EOD was not meant to imply that he learned his MOS at boot camp. It was to inform you that he was in a combat unit. He was not at Parris Island, he was at camp Pendleton.
I'm telling you he said there were women in his Marine Boot camp. I'll ask him more about it next time I see him.

Marines segregate recruits in basic training.
Marines also don't use "drill Sargents", they're called Drill Instructors.

Amnesty is bad yes. Open borders, not so sure about that one. I have no issue with legal migrant workers. Pass laws getting rid of anchor babies and then what's the issue? We're the only place in the world where a baby is automatically a citizen, it's absurd and the Constitution never meant for this practice. Get rid of anchor babies, no amnesty, and a completely open guest worker program. Oh, and end this stupid drug war we spend over half our law enforcement and legal budgets on. Do that and this problem is gone.

Oh and just so we are clear, and hopefully this will help unbunch a lot of peoples panties, but the vast majority of our military MOSs are not combat. We are not Startship Troopers where clerks and cooks alike fight. Certainly the non-linear wars we have fought have brought women to the frontlines, but once again the vast majority of jobs in the military are non combat.
Also, why must all of you people visualize women in combat as women toting rifles and struggling under 125lb packs while being slaughtered? What is much more realistic, and I can say this from my limited experience, is to visualize women being trained to fly and fight in an F-22, women serving in nuclear submarines, women being a part of tank crews driving tanks into enemy territory. These are all jobs that women can realistically do right now. Trying to become female infantry officers, well that didn't end well for the first female LTs to try it. And that field, by virtue of its tough nature will likely continue to naturally select women out of it. Y'all need to be asking tougher questions, like "why is it that we spend more than our allies combined on defense and yet the F-35 is barely flying?" "What role should private contractors be playing in our conflicts? Lance Corporal Joe Scmo is an infantryman and his dumbass gets paid 35,000 a year, Contractor Bob stays within the wire and gets paid 250,000 a year. Why?" "How can we counter China's advanced anti-ship missiles that pose a grave danger to our carrier battlegroups (one of the very few means of deterrence we have left?"
THESE questions are much more important than whether a Marine with a vag or a cock is operating an artillery piece or flying a Cobra. Goddamn and I thought we conservatives were the ones to support the military!
