— Ace This is the most awesome presidency in history.
Stock, bonds, commodities, and currencies around the world got destroyed today. Today's drop in the S&P 500 was the worst one since 2011.Today's calamity was really an extension of yesterday's sell-off, which appeared to be triggered by comments made by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke. Specifically, he said that the Fed could begin to taper, or gradually reduce, its quantitative easing program as early as later this year. In other words, they would be scaling back on their monthly purchases of $85 billion dollars worth of mortgage bonds and Treasury securities.
Some argue that the most devastating news was the surge in an obscure Chinese interest rate called SHIBOR, or the LIBOR of China. In 2008, surging LIBOR rates preceded the global credit crunch, causing the global economy and financial markets to spiral.
So we've got that to look forward to.
I find that last point ominous. Seems to me that the US often pulls the rest of the world out of a global recession. But the US hasn't done that. We're limping along. We're not in "recovery" and we're certainly not in growth.
So there's really no backstop, except for other big countries like China.

Obama's 1st term was the diametric opposite to Reagan's first term in not just the economy, but in every respect.
He defied reason and won because People today, fortunately for Obama, are simply unreasonable.

The federal reserve has been buying crap from banks to give banks more money to play with. But most everyone who's dumb enough to take on debt is already up to their eyeballs. The remaining alternatives are student loans (guess how those are performing with half of all graduates unemployable) and margin for folks playing the stock market.
So long as the free money stretched infinitely into the future, it made sense to lard up on leverage. Now that it might eventually end, the only smart move is to cash out early. Which means we get huge deflation everywhere despite the fact the fed is still printing out the wazoo. When this gets interesting is when the decline starts triggering margin calls and we find out what this market is actually worth.
Short version: The problem is not the decline now, it was the manipulation of the last five years to make the market artificially high. The decline now is merely the inevitable consequence.
Some argue that the most devastating news was the surge in an obscure Chinese interest rate called SHIBOR, or the LIBOR of China. In 2008, surging LIBOR rates preceded the global credit crunch, causing the global economy and financial markets to spiral.
Just for some context, zerohedge had an article about this last night. Three days ago the interbank lending rate in China was 5%. At one point last night it was 25%. The system freezes up when folks figure out everyone is bullshitting each other.

It's a good thing. All the free money that Bernanke has been giving institutional investors has mostly gone towards raising stock prices and commodity prices and in general reducing the purchasing power of the dollars that are in yours and my pockets.
Now, our dollars will become king again, the price of gas and oil, food and energy and all those little things that the government doesn't like to put in the CPI indexes will actually start to fall.
It's been a mad, mad, world where declining wages, declining purchasing power, increased unemployment, have all been tied to a growing stock market. Maybe next year we will see declining wages, level unemployment and a greater purchasing power while the inflated stock prices decrease.

in other news: oh Goody (from the Hill):
Hillary Clinton has already racked up a couple of endorsements for the 2016 presidential race — and she hasn’t even announced she’s running yet. Requests are flooding in for the former secretary of State to campaign for candidates.
Of course, President Obama remains the most sought-after figure, but his star power could fade in the coming months as the chatter about his successor intensifies. His approval rating has fallen as his administration has grappled with a variety of controversies ranging from IRS overreach to government snooping.
“The political focus of the Democratic Party will shift to Hillary, and in some ways it has already,” said former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D), who, as a staunch Clinton supporter, has an interest in seeing his forecast come true.
He noted that while Obama will be the policy leader of the party, there will be an “inherent transition” politically to the person Democrats see as the next leader.

Reaganomics did that.
At the time, liberals sneered, and said, "Well of COURSE Reagan managed to generate growth, with all of his reckless deficit spending! It's just textbook Keynes when you get right down to it."
Now under Obama we have deficit spending that dwarfs Reagan's deficits in percentage terms, and measly growth that's a fraction of what it was at this point in the Reagan years.
Have the liberals stopped sneering? Of course not! Now it's "Booooooooosh!"

500 rounds of 9mm
I would advise doubling or tripling that if you can.

There is no inherent value in gold (sorry Monty, but you are wrong), and its reputation as a hedge against inflation is based on nothing concrete.
That it has become detached from its traditional movements isn't surprising. What is surprising is that it took so long.

The market will regain some losses, (DJIA will go up about 120) and the balloons will fall from the ceiling at CNBC celebrating a bull market once again.

When the prices of everything are propped up by margin, they all fall at once when everyone cashes out. As a matter of determining the value of gold, if Ben's actually serious about cutting off the free money, the infinite inflation that had people chasing gold won't happen, which makes it terribly overvalued right now.

We went from Trickle Down Economics to Pee On Their Heads And Tell Them It's Raining Economics.
Mark Levin made the point yesterday that we have about two to three thousand people, most unelected, running our country, our lives.
And those few thousand people have close cronies. Everything they do is for themselves. Everything that happens benefits them first. The rest of us get The Hose. We get the bill, and we get the screwing, and we get the consequences.

So much for a "jury of your peers".
WTF? An all-woman jury? I've never heard of such a thing.
On the one hand, presumably some of them are sympathetic with the idea of self-defense against thugs; but on the other hand, some of them could be "guns are icky" types.

I think those rounds might be a little harder to swap readily if the need arises. 55 grain FMJ everybody wants. I've traded it for other ammo I wanted, and even took it in trade for a scope recently.

Russian steel case shoots okay. You may have a problem with the extractor if you shoot a ton of it, though.
Groups (with my M14) were not as tight as good brass stuff, but it WILL do the job.
Clean-up is facilitated by using some over the counter spray carb cleaner. Just be careful about getting it on the woodwork.
Finally, before shooting, simply drown the moving parts with spray silicone--works as well as gun oil, with no mess.
