28 Young, pert tatas and firm bubble butts are a wonderful thing. In my elder years I am content to look, not touch. In my youmger years I begged, if necessary to touch. May youth enjoy the fruits of youth, may the oldsters think warmly upon the fruits -- plucked or fallen to the ground -- of their youth.

Buchholz has bounced back from the most recent injury nicely.  That makes twice in one season that he's been a "comeback player" and that's pretty cool.

Of course he blew the call!

I have seen it (too many times) and it is not even debatable.

But how many calls during that game should have gone the other way? How many called strikes were actually balls? How many close outs were actually safe?

Baseball has huge problems, but a blown call in a possible perfect game thrown by a crappy pitcher who just got lucky isn't one of them.

I wanted to play football for the coach.
And all those older guys, they said that he was mean and cruel, but you know,
I wanted to play football for the coach.
They said I was a little too lightweight to play linebacker so's I'd be playing right end
But I wanted to play football for the coach.
'Cause you know something man, you gotta stand up straight unless you're gonna fall.
Then you're going to die.
And the straightest dude I ever knew was standing right by me all the time
So I had to play football for the coach.
And I wanted to play football for the coach.

99 Instant replay wouldn't have made any difference in the Sox game. There is no out if bounds line to catch a toe on and watch a thousand times like in football.. It's all about the ability and integrity of the umpires.

117 Regarding the obstruction call, it is fairly obvious that the runner would have made it safely to the plate if he did not trip over the third baseman (the play was close anyway).

That was the judgment the umpire had to make, and I believe he made it correctly.

Interestingly, the MLB story mentioned that if the runner was not making a serious effort to score, then it would have been within the ump's judgment to call him out.

It was a weird play, but I don't think there should be any call to modify the rules.

123 wait, what, there's been a chemjeff sighting?  did the local applebee's fail their inspection and get shut down or what?

Posted by: Peaches at October 27, 2013 06:03 PM (8lmkt)

124 88 Xander Bogarts has been ice-cold solid this post-season. He'll take Middlebrooks' job next season. I don't see him moving to short and Middlebrooks can't play short. Posted by: Slapweasel at October 27, 2013 09:47 PM (lq3Ak) --------------------- We saw him play a few times in Salem VA (Class-A, Carolina League) and knew he wouldn't be at that level long. My younger daughter was working for the Salem Red Sox that summer and got to know him a little bit. Very much a gentleman and humble, she says. They went salsa dancing once --- with a group..... I think.

125 I don't think Applebee's failed its inspection, although it probably ought to.
Just at home trying to write lecture notes but really just goofing off and listening to the game.

Hi everyone hope all is well

That jibes with everything I've heard about him.  He and Manny Machado will be fixtures at 3B for BOS and BAL, respectively, for years to come.

These guys are going to be "noteworthy", to say the least.
