12 Hey everyone!

The wife and I found a stray puppy on our walk this morning.  He and another small puppy dog were running around the yards up ahead of us, but we thought they belonged to the house they were on.  We kept walking on and we saw them again on another yard and they eventually made it all the way to our front yard.  We coaxed the braver dog to us so we could read the collar, but the other one was more skittish and took off.  We couldn't find him.

The braver one, after being bathed and de-ticked, is now the best friend of my younger black lab.  They are inseparable now.  Uh oh.  Some of our neighbours said that they've seen these two dogs the past week now, running all over the neighbourhood together, but no one knows who they belong to.  We put out signs saying we found a dog, but no calls yet.  We still haven't found the shy buddy dog.

Both look like German Shepherd mixes, and are very cute.  My wife is trying to see if we can adopt him, but he obviously belongs to someone.  If we can't find the owner, we'll have to give him to a shelter.  What I think is that they both belong to someone who recently moved into the neighbourhood.  I haven't seen them before and I walk my dogs in my neighbourhood everyday.

Anyhow....here's the pic of the little guy.

He's been a really good dog so far.  No barking, no whining.  He's just been playing with my larger black lab and they've been having a blast together.

Posted by: OneIron at July 04, 2013 09:51 AM (rcc0V)

18 CUNY (City University of New York) has hired Patraeus to tech 3 hours a week, as an adjunct professor. His pay is $200,000 dollars a year. ThatÂ’s 8 times the normal rate. He will have a graduate student staff, who will take care of course research, administration and grading. The normal pay for an adjunct professor is $25,000 a year. CUNY, which is a college you go to when you canÂ’t get into a real college and gets generous subsidies from the city of New York cannot possibly get that much benefit from Patraeus.

EC, call your animal control....if you have one.  People sometimes call them if their dogs have gone missing thinking they have pick up them up.   Also, check with your vet....the dog(s) might have chips.

Also, sometimes people post on local lost pet boards on the internet when they've lost their dog.

I'll call tomorrow, no one's going to be answering today.  I will take them to the vet tomorrow and see if they are chipped.  He has a collar, but no identifying details on it.

26 Posted by: EC at July 04, 2013 01:48 PM (doBIb) That little dog is very sweet looking. It's good of you to take such good car of it. My thought is you're correct. If it had a collar they belong to someone unless they were ditching their dogs. Dogs in a new place which aren't well trained will take off. You might call the shelter and put a "Found dog" notice there and also at the local supermarket.. Maybe the people the dog or dogs belong to don't drive by your house

He belongs to someone, from the collar on him.  We just don't know who.  If we can't find them, we'll have to take him to a shelter.  We have two dogs already and a cat.  Not sure we can adopt a third dog.  The wife understands he not ours.

43 A couple I know lost their cat. They put an ad in the paper,ad watched the Lost and Found Pets column of the paper. An animal was reported found that sounded as though it might be theirs. My less-than-engaged friend went over and picked the animal up. Upon his return, his wife took one look and said, "That's not our cat!" . My friend held it up, looked at it, and said , "It's not?"

At any rate, they kept it, as the people who found it in the first place never had any other takers. Did I mention that this took place in Holland, and that there was a lot of hash around?

44 We've got a mid-sized dog, blonde mutt with some Lab in him, who has been wandering the neighborhood for at least two days. I'd approach him, he was shitting in my yard 15 minutes ago, but he's often scratching. I have cats, can't be near fleas. I only realized he'd been around for two days when my wife said she saw him yesterday morning, about 5 houses away, scratching in the middle of the road. No collar, but the fur is ruffed like he used to have one. I don't trust calling any Agency, to be honest. Gonna go post something on the local newspaper msg board, if I'm not banned.

Posted by: Lincolntf at July 04, 2013 10:08 AM (ZshNr)

45 Pet owners,  I cannot tell you how important it is to have a tag with YOUR phone number on the pet.  I returned a dog on Monday to their owners because they had that tag.  Otherwise,  I would have had to call animal control as I couldn't bring the dog home. (The dog had pulled the stake out of the ground where it had been placed outside on a cable.)

My dog is chipped and tattooed by her breeder,  but I never thought about this until this week,  so will be doing it for my own dog.  I do not trust Animal Control to hold a dog that is obviously owned and not euthanize it.

Posted by: Miss Marple at July 04, 2013 10:19 AM (GoIUi)

46 Agreed Miss Marple. I don't want someone worried about their own workload/budget/over-crowding, etc. just slotting the dog for euthanasia because that's what best works for THEM. I'd trust a guy off the street with a decent description of the dog as his only proof of ownership over some possible Peta partisan.

47 O/T QUESTION:  I know of 3 people who could not get prescriptions from their GP's,  but were required to see specialists.  These prescriptions were for asthma medication, thyroid medication, and non-narcotic pain medication for fibromyalgia.

Has there been some sort of change in who can prescribe medication?  Has this happened to you (being required to go to a specialist)?  Does anyone know why?

Posted by: Miss Marple at July 04, 2013 10:25 AM (GoIUi)

48 Don't take him to a kill shelter.Find the owner and if no owner comes forward then find a home on your own. He's a good dog and he deserves a good home. I wd notify the shelter and leave a photo or a flyer and put up the flyers in the neighborhood.

Posted by: waldo at July 04, 2013 10:28 AM (yCCOr)

49 Several of the best dogs I've had were strays that I took in. Yes, I did my level best to find their original owners, but when I couldn't, I kept them. I'm not sure why you think you need to get authorities involved. Yes, contact them to see if they have been notified of missing dogs, but if they haven't, why give them the dog? It'll just be euthanized.

Posted by: Weirddave at July 04, 2013 10:28 AM (aH+zP)

Miss Marple,

I have been going to the same drugstore for years,  I'm not sure if it is a Massachusetts law or federal law. A few years ago they wouldn't fill a prescription unless I showed my license.  Now I can't even pick up a refill unless I give them my license.

Posted by: CarolT at July 04, 2013 10:42 AM (z4WKX)

51 Friends don't do shit like that. You mean not stealing? yeah, I'm good with that. Ordinarily, I would say "I wouldn't turn them in, but encourage them to return the items and clean up their, and failing to do so would mean that I won't associate with them further", but that could be considered "accessory after the fact". So, yeah, I'll drop a dime on them just to avoid the felony charge.

But a friend is priceless, and selling one out costs you that friendship, which means that no matter how much you get, the loss more than balances the income. So, no net income and no tax due. In fact, you might even be able to write off other income against your loss. ;^)
