Wow, If We Were Still Watching NBC, We'd Probably Be Pretty Annoyed
— Ace

1, I didn't know this show was still even on.

2, "Ripped from the headlines"? Which headlines? Last August's? Hey I've got a Ripped From the Headlines plot I'd like to pitch-- it's about this big boat, see, that hits an iceberg, see? Very big to-do a short time ago in all the local rags. Lots of fellers n' dames were talking about it at the Automat, see?

3, Will the last NBC viewer please turn out the lights.

The last Law & Order I saw was 15 years ago. I turned it off after Jack McCoy did his head-shaking thing and said, "We'll cut a deal with the murderer to get his testimony against the real criminal -- the White Man who sold him Trans-Fats."

31 My understanding is that the odds of conception actually increase with rape. It's not clear why. One evo-psych theory is that in hunter-gatherer times being raped went along with a change of power in tribal leadership -- so it was a survival advantage to become pregnant via the new alpha male. Another theory is that rapists unconsciously are selecting more fertile victims.

Why dont they do a show about a bunch of policticans in a far away land making a decision to arbitrarily take the savings of a group of constituents from their bank accounts without the courtesy of even going through perfunctory parlimentary manuevers to feign legitimacy; followed by the inevitable and untimely deaths of said politicians.

CNN Demolishes Obama’s ‘High-Speed Rail Boondoggle’
By Andrew Johnson

"On his CNN show last night, Anderson Cooper chronicled the Obama administrationÂ’s unfulfilled promises and wasteful spending on high-speed rail projects across the country. Cooper and investigative reporter Drew Griffin reported that, while the administration sold its $12 billion in projects as high-speed rail, the funding has spent has largely been used to make existing trains slightly faster. In Washington State, for instance, $800 million have been used to reduce the length of the trip from Seattle to Portland by 10 minutes."

74 One of the best uses of money for rails is to raise the bridges and embiggen tunnels so more railcars can be double-stacked. It's often old overpasses and bridges in small towns that force the train to be single-stacked cause their isn't a foot extra clearance in some small cowtown. ROI on that investment is very clear. But it has to be done on the whole line to make it useful.

Is this SVU?  Can't see the video, so I assume   so.

I rarely watch SVU, but when I do, it's for one reason.   It probably   makes me a terrible person, but the only reason I ever watch SVU is for the odd occasion when the     "victim" turns out to be a    fraud,   the individual s/he accused turns out to be completely innocent,   and the SVU detectives all come out looking like fucktarded idiots who should be ashamed to    get out of bed     in the morning    and would do the universe a favor if they formed a circular firing squad and killed each other    For The Children.

Those episodes give me a warm, glowy feeling.

The rest of them are little more than   puerile garbage masquerading as       drama.

190 I thought that was the Supreme Court's arena. A circuit appellate court can absolutely do that. If the SC denies cert, the circuit court decision stands. If the SC takes cert but only reaches a 4-4 tie due to abstention, recusal or a split vote on the key issues, the circuit decision will stand. The appellate court will only be overturned if the SC affirmatively does so.

Reminds me of that episode of First 48 I watched last weekend. These three pension fund managers arranged a meet with their regular Goldman Sachs' broker, Boo, to get some sweet, sweet index funds for a party they were going to later that night. So they're in the back seat of Boo's car making the deal, when one of the fund managers, Tre Tre, pulls out a 9 and caps his ass. They grab the index funds and the cash and take off. Turns out ole Boo had been slinging some funds that were not performing to market expectations and Tre Tre and his posse decided to deal some Wall Street justice. Ripped from the headlines indeed.

223 190 I thought that was the Supreme Court's arena. Posted by: Blacksheep at March 26, 2013 01:39 PM (8/DeP) ____________________ Okay thanks. 255 Does the Supreme Court leave the Circuit court as the final arbiter of what is constitutional that often--especially when it overturns a state wide vote? These days the SC has no mandatory jurisdiction, it's entirely discretionary. So, they wade in whenever a majority of them feel it's appropriate (through a process called granting certiorari); otherwise, they will not intervene. Sometimes, the SC will want to intervene on an issue generally, but the case isn't exactly postured the way they need it to be to make their point, so they'll say the issue isn't "ripe" and wait for a better case on the same point. For example, rather than ruling on the Constitutionality of this case, they could instead not overturn it, and then rely on a future case that argues there's a disparity between circuits or something like that. Ultimately, overturning a state referendum isn't a common practice by either appellate courts of the SC, but then again state referendums aren't all that common either. Most states pass such laws through their legislature.

Speaking of Gabi Giffords, from Free Republic:

"The NavyÂ’s newest ship will be the USS Gabrielle Giffords.

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus made the announcement at a Pentagon ceremony today, calling Giffords someone whose name is synonymous with courage.

Former Rep. Gabby Giffords looked on at the Pentagon as Mabus made the announcement in a public ceremony. Also in attendance at this afternoonÂ’s brief ceremony in the Pentagon Courtyard was Roxana Green, the mother of 9-year-old Christina-Taylor Green.

Christina-Taylor was among those killed in last yearÂ’s deadly shooting rampage in Tucson that targeted Giffords as she met constituents outside a supermarket. Roxana Green will be the shipÂ’s sponsor.

Giffords is still recovering from the gunshot wounds to her head that she suffered during last JanuaryÂ’s shooting incident. She stepped down from Congress two weeks ago.

The ship named today for her, which has yet to be built, will be the NavyÂ’s 10th Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), a new kind of ship designed to bring the Navy fighting power into shallow coastal areas. The first two ships in this class were called Freedom and Independence, but the conventional practice since then has been to name the other ships in the class after a city.

“It’s very appropriate that LCS 10 be named for someone who has become synonymous with courage, who has inspired the nation with remarkable resiliency and showed the possibilities of the human spirit,” said Mabus.

Mabus said the notion occurred to him that this would be a “fitting tribute” not only to Giffords but to Navy families because she was a Navy spouse. Her husband, Mark Kelly, was until recently an astronaut and Navy pilot."

278 On the next Law and Order SVU : Cain V. Abel, what really happened.
The Zionists did it just like 9/11.

279 The ship named today for her, which has yet to be built, will be the NavyÂ’s 10th Littoral Combat Ship (LCS)

From what I've read, LCS has been a floating disaster and money pit.  Its fitting to name one after a Democrat.

280 Still watch these from time to time, in the summer or at other times when there is nothing but re-runs on. I get tired of the PC aspect, but haven't summoned up the will to boycott yet.

281 So they could rename the show, "Inside Bloomberg's Mind?"

So they could rename the show, "Inside Bloomberg's Mind?"

"Empty Space"?

283 the last time I watched L and O, an episode about a young guy who kills an oriental immegrant, the gets off claiming he was brain washed by an internet radio show host. Afterwards, Richard Belzer denounces people like Rush Limbaugh. Mind you, some of us remember that Ice T first became well know (perhaps) for an album called  "Cop Killer" so he's okay.

284 165 Main problem with Dunst -- no lips.
I like everything about white women especially the creamy white skin. But there's one thing I don't like - the no lips thing which some white chicks like Dunst have. I like me some pouty-lipped women. Posted by: Flatbush Joe at March 26, 2013 01:36 P

Well hello there !!!

285 "The late Paul Lynde makes a convincing cameo as Ambassador Stevens right after the attack."

I have him singled out for a key position in my new game-show idea patterned after a child's game called tic-tac-toe. NBC should be all over it!!!111!11eleventy!

288 Hollywood never has a problem with rape when the name "Roman Polanski" comes up in conversation.

290 When L&O first started, it wasn't too bad.  That lasted about 4-5 years.  Then, they started descending a little into politics, but not too much.  Angie Harmon came along and they actually calmed it down playing up her conservatism in a not-negative light.  When Teh Fred started, they moved to a view that they could play the liberal ADAs off his conservatism.  Even though there were conflicts, at the end of the day, they all loved each other.  When the "You fired me because I'm a lesbian" episode came along, they had given up any pretext that Teh Fred had rational thoughts.  At that point, they gave up pretending and just went with what made them feel good.

291 Is this the episode where Whoopi Goldberg explains that it wasn't "rape" rape?

292 Yeah, but it wasn't "Ripped" ripped.

295 "Wow, If We Were Still Watching NBC, We'd Probably Be Pretty Annoyed"

The only times NBC comes on my tube is when Jay Leno runs his "Headlines" segment on the Tonight Show, and occasionally the late local news.

296 222 66 Is this thread because I'm a lesbian, Ace? Posted by: andycanuck at March 26, 2013 01:20 PM I'll never forget the fun that Jonah Goldberg had with that shark jumping line from Serena Sutherlyn No, it's because you're an incompetent lawyer with no personality who happens to be a lesbian, that's why! Posted by: kbdabear at March 26, 2013 01:44 PM (mCvL4) lol, I'd forgotten about that classic non-sequitor. Season ender, last line of the episode and its way out of left field. 297 The show was good in the early days, especially after Jill Hennessey (rrrrrowr) came on.  When I found out a few years ago that Michael Moriarty is conservative, my appreciation for those season increased even more.

Is this the episode where the Dem Senator leaves his intern/sextoy to suffocate to death after driving his car off a bridge? Pretty grissly stuff. I hear they found fingernail marks as she struggled in the air pocket of the sinking car.

299 The way you protest things like this, is the same way you protest any other business:  You donÂ’t go back.  If you ignore them, they will go away.

After I heard about CBS using a Vietnam B-52 bomber memorial for their “The Amazing Race” show, I went through my DVD to cancel any of their shows that I might have set to record regularly.  I found out that I donÂ’t record ANY of their shows.

After I read the above article, I went through my DVD to get rid of any NBC shows I might be recording, and there werenÂ’t any on NBC either.  I am now going through to see if there are any on ABC.

It surprise me, but I found one:  The Middle.  I donÂ’t find much wrong with the show, so I am keeping it on “Record”.

This means that CBS and NBC could go out of business, and if I didnÂ’t hear or read about it, I would never know.
