— DrewM Wendy Davis apparently just realized that she's running for Governor of Texas and not New York.
Davis, a Fort Worth senator and the likely Democratic nominee for governor, told The Dallas Morning News’ editorial board that less than one-half of 1 percent of Texas abortions occur after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Most of those were in cases where fetal abnormalities were evident or there were grave risks to the health of the woman.“I would line up with most people in Texas who would prefer that that’s not something that happens outside of those two arenas,” Davis said.
But the Democrat said the stateÂ’s new abortion law didnÂ’t give priority to women in those circumstances. The law allows for exceptions for fetal abnormalities and a threat to the womanÂ’s life, but Davis said those didnÂ’t go far enough.
“My concern, even in the way the 20-week ban was written in this particular bill, was that it didn’t give enough deference between a woman and her doctor making this difficult decision, and instead tried to legislatively define what it was,” Davis said.
So to sum up, the woman who made her name, such as it is, filibustering the bill that prevents abortion after 20 weeks now supports the concept?
Ok, first of all, no she doesn't. I'm sure her doctor/patient exception or whatever she'll call it will be big enough to drive Kermit Gosnel's clinic slaughterhouse through.
But...the people who support her and made her a folk hero don't want any restrictions on abortions. More than that they don't want any sort of negative connotation associated with abortion. Having the latest poster girl for their holy cause even insinuate that it could be restricted or that the pro-life crowd should be catered to will be quite the blow.
Meanwhile, Charlie Crist emails to say, "Damn, this is some shameless pandering, huh?".
Marco Rubio follows up with, "Wendy, you're supposed to wait until after the election to flip. Oh right, you will flip back if you're elected. Ok, I get that."
Seriously, it's nice to see Democrats have to deal with this for once. It doesn't matter since she won't even come close to winning but the "even Wendy Davis says abortions after 20 weeks should be restricted" will be a fun talking point.

“I deeply respect Hillary Clinton,” Ball began. “I think she’s a great intellect with great fortitude. I think she was a strong secretary of state, a hardworking and effective senator. But I’ve come to a difficult realization: I don’t want Hillary Clinton to run for president in 2016. I do not think she is the right person for this moment.”

Lying bitch.
But, you all know that.
She opposed the bill for one reason and one reason only: Because of the provisions that it would hold abortion mills to the same standards as any other surgical location.
That, that is why she opposed the bill: Because it would shut down the abortion mills that failed to meet the basic standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
All the other talk was deflection and subterfuge to hide her true objections.

Been there and done that with listening to these sorts of claims.
Back in the Nineties, when the partial-birth abortion question was starting to be debated, the abortion lobby sent out a guy named Ron Fitzsimmons, head of the National Coalition of Abortion Providers, to aggressively defend the practice of PBA.
Fitzsimmons stumped up and down the country, writing op-eds, appearing on television, and stressing over and over again that:
-- There were next to no partial-birth abortions being done
-- In no cases were they performed electively to eliminate a healthy fetus from a healthy mother
-- In every case it was always 'life and health of the mother' as the clinical medical justification
All of this was a complete tissue of lies. Fitzsimmons knew this at the time and later openly admitted to same. He fessed up that there were far more PBA being performed than the abortion lobby wanted to admit in public, and some of those PBA were of perfectly healthy infants.
So when I hear such a _trustworthy_ (cough) individual as Wendy Davis talking about how rare late-term abortion is, and about fetal abnormalities being the indication for it, I just don't buy it any longer. Sorry. No dice.

That, to me, is one of the things that makes me sick: Too many in this society care more about the treatment of animals than our own babies.
Somebody shoots a dog and everyone is fighting for first place in line to exact pain and punishment upon the shooter.
Somebody stabs a baby in the back of the neck to kill it and . . . "that's none of your business!!"

I thought I was pretty much case-hardened and unshockable by now, but the video (by O'Keefe's bunch?) of asking idiot college students to sign petitions supporting fourth trimester abortion rights -- and getting a lot of takers -- really jarred me. The future of the country is in the very best of hands.
At least one student wavered, and the petition-pusher said encouragingly, "It's for Obama," which were apparently the magic words.

Progtards go on and on and on and oh dear lord please make it stop go ON AND ON AND ON about how incredibly cool and awesome and fantastic and advanced Europe is, and how stupid backward bitter clinging America needs to become more like Europe in every possible way.
Except of course when the subject turns to abortion, where many European countries have tighter rules about abortion timing than is the case in the USA, and where abortions must as a matter of law be performed in a fully accredited hospital by a certified surgical team. No Gosnell style abortion mills permitted.
Then suddenly progtards get stammery and quickly change the subject.

======
That's the problem, my friend.
Once you admit it is a human being?
Esh. It gets real ugly and sticky thinking about what we've allowed to become acceptable.
If it is a human being, then we have to have severe restrictions upon the practice.
Remember "safe, legal and rare?" Only one of those is true, that it is legal. It was a lie then and it is a lie now.
When a baby is entitled to a defense lawyer and a jury of 12 before being sentenced to death, then I'll concede we've the proper respect for life.

I can't remember which one of the Horde said it, but someone said every time they think of Wendy Davis, they hear the theme from "Goldfinger" playing in their head, except of course with "Golddigger" substituted.
That would be a purely awesome parody with some artfully rewritten lyrics. And if someone could be found to sing it who has the pipes of Shirley Bassey.
Personally, I hear a different tune. The theme song to the classic "Roadrunner" cartoons.
"Gold-digger! If she catches you you're through!"

Right now, yes. But in a decade or so when pedophilia is redefined as a normal sexual orientation, then a white NAMBLA member might make it, but I still think a racial minority NAMBLA member would have a much better shot.

And make no mistake: God considers a baby in the womb one of His children.
He didn't wait to send an angel to Mary in the stable until AFTER the birth of Jesus to say, "that's My Son."

I tend to look at abortion pretty much the same way as child molestation. Yes, we know it happens. Yes, it's happened all throughout history. People, including parents, can do horrendous things to children.
So what's the solution? Bringing it out of the shadows? Making it safe? Acceptable? Legal?
And if we make it illegal again, what happens? Will it hurt the self-esteem of the monsters who perpretrate such crimes? Is that what is stopping us?

They are only attacking her because she is hurting the brand. What they are really saying is, "we can help you, we want to help you, let us help you."
100% of them will still vote for her.
Mark my words: In three to five months, they'll be talking about how great she is again.
They've already written the stories about her "surprising come-back" prepped to drop, right around the time a push-poll shows her at 45% or so.

But, but, but we've just built a ginormous monument to ourselves in DC with the text of the 1st Amendment carved into the exterior!

That's not how it works. There's a difference between the debt limit and spending limits imposed by Congress.
At this point they should just do away with the debt limit completely. That which isn't enforced is meaningless.

OTOH, it was an awesome weight loss program.

History does tend to lead us to that conclusion. Just look at the history of the entire continent of Africa, just for starters.
But I believe that freedom is the natural state of humanity. It's the small but powerful percentage of power-mad tyrants of the world (such as our own Progressives) that hate freedom and take it away from the rest of us.
--------------
Good insight, I'd just add that it's humanity's natural state until the group becomes too large. After that, tyranny and oppression become more commonplace.

Seriously, it's nice to see Democrats have to deal with this for once. It doesn't matter since she won't even come close to winning but the "even Wendy Davis says abortions after 20 weeks should be restricted" will be a fun talking point.
I am extremly careful about making statements such as this one. Democrats now have commanding majorities in every urban center in the state. Those of use who live in these urban areas are suffering with liberal Democrat administrations in almost everyone of them. In addition the rural areas of the state are loosing population and control of the state may be slipping.
Let us not be over optimistic, it leads to defeat.

Bill Clements (R) was the governor before Ann Richards. He was a two termer. The only scandal I remember with Clements was the SMU booster club slush fund that was paying the football players.
I think Ann Richards won because the Republicans ran a member of the good ole boy club, Clayton Williams, who just had to make a joke about rape.
Now that I think on it, I guess Clayton Williams was a forerunner of Republican candidates that suffer from foot-in-mouth disease.

145: "but isn't it interesting that Social Cons are actually denigrated by our own for Reacting to the Social push of the Left?"
True. But nowadays I no longer have that worry, as I no longer consider them my own. I'm no longer a republican. I treat the clamor from republicans about social issues the same as what comes from democrats.

@400 darii
I don't defend Davis, but it doesn't sound like a flip flop. If anything her current statement is less anti-abortion than her aattempts to amend the bill. At least with proposed exemptions there could have been a pretense of supporting (or just merely trying to make the law "less bad"). Her current statements merely state a personal preference while restating her opposition to codifying that preference.

Yup. Having a Todd Akins on your side in an election is like getting raped.
You know your getting it bad, but sometimes you have to just like lay back and ...
no wait, you take out the mace, spray it and run like hell.
That's the ticket.
