Abortion Barbie's Epic Backstory Unravels a Bit
— Dave in Texas

Purp had this in the headlines. Wendy Davis rode to national prominence over her (useless) filibuster of Texas Senate Bill 5 which banned abortions in Texas after 20 weeks of pregnancy and required abortion clinics to meet the same standards of patient care as other places where surgeons operate on people. Because, war on women or something.

Pink Sneaker Sweetie's rise to prominence went something like this: She got pregnant when she was young (yes), lived in a trailer park (for a few months then moved in with the folks), struggled and clawed her way through education, a second marriage and a second child to make it to Harvard Law School where she excelled and all those inspiring things (while her second husband paid for it and took care of the daughters. Cause she was gone. Doing great things).

Well her second husband paid for it, and incidentally she left him and her two daughters in Texas for a couple years while she studied and matriculated at Harvard Law.

Is it "matriculated?" I don't know, I do cheerleaders. She'd have been a good one.

She divorced second husband Jeff Davis and relinquished custody of the children to him. Paid him child support even. She did her stunt in the rotunda and got lots of national attention (cash) to run for governor of Houston (see Molly Ringwald, goof).

She is also now focused on tightening up her language in interviews.

In an extensive interview last week, Davis acknowledged some chronological errors and incomplete details in what she and her aides have said about her life.

“My language should be tighter,” she said. “I’m learning about using broader, looser language. I need to be more focused on the detail.”

Anyway she's the next Democrat candidate for governor who will lose against Greg Abbott who is from Houston but is running for governor of the whole enchilada.

You go girl.

also! @WendyDavisTaxes is funny on twitter.

After losing she sued the local media, ABC, and Disney (owners of the media) for printing stuff about her that she claimed caused physical and mental problems for her. It took four years and the Texas Supreme Court dismissing this Harvard Law grads (she must have missed class when the First Amendment was discussed) nuisance law suit for her to stop with the whining. 58 I'd love to see those divorce records. Did she really abandon the kids? Or did the judge rule that a debt free Harvard Law School graduate mother was unfit to raise her kids? Even with shared custody? Or what kinda leverage did her husband have to entice her into walking away without a fight? Even in Texas I'd expect the court would prefer the mother raise the kids in some capacity. And I can't imagine why she'd willingly give 'em up knowing she was gonna pursue a political career. She'd have to be a damn fool to think that wouldn't come back to bite her in the ass eventually. There's gotta be more to the story.

Drug addicted mothers don't get all their rights stripped. Posted by: BCochran1981 - Irish at January 20, 2014 07:58 PM (GEICT) ******** Shit I was wondering about that. Her own allies said she didn't have time for them because of her "ambition". The quote about her when she had a middle school age daughter:

"A former colleague and political supporter who worked closely with Davis when she was on the council said the bodyÂ’s work was very time-consuming.

“Wendy is tremendously ambitious,” he said, speaking only on condition of anonymity in order to give what he called an honest assessment. “She’s not going to let family or raising children or anything else get in her way.”

193 Sorry folks, but we can talk about this falsehood of her narrative all you want. However, it has entered the mythos and anyone, even a horrid WASPy male, talks against it; they will catch flak for the war on women or misogynistic thought paths. Because to the liberal/progressive woman, NOW types, or feminist movement believer; that there is a woman who was just like Ms. Davis either in that person's background or the mythical woman that is created by the folks of NOW or some other feminist group. We can rail all we want about her lying and like we did about Mrs. Warren, the reality is the left leaning folks won't care; because her is a woman that fits their narrative of what a single mom fits and fits that whole rising above your station because that is what the progressives believe in. All you need to do is read the FB, Twitter comments that basically say "You go, girl!", when the various news organizations are talking about this bit of lies. We won't rise above the cotton in the liberals ears, because it doesn't matter to them that she was using men to rise above her station and it doesn't matter to them that she really doesn't want a family. No to them it is all about identity politics and all about having the "right" people in charge of the government.

209 A former family-law attorney described how she once had a new male client walk in and sit down and say that he was looking to get a divorce and get sole custody of his three kids.

Counsel asks, "Where's your wife on this?"

He indicated that she wasn't going to give up custody without a big fight.

She said, "Um, well, okay, sir, but I hope you realize that your odds of prevailing on sole custody are extremely low, and it would be unprofessional of me to lead you on suggesting that those odds are anything other than that."

She gave a brief explanation of the systemically misandrist way in which family courts are rigged to favor women in these situations, and then asked the guy, "And on what grounds are you filing?"

"Adultery," he said.

She sighed. "Look, sir, it's 2002, not 1952, and a family court judge is not going to be horribly shocked to hear that your wife has been having it off with somebody different. Times have changed. Morals have changed. I literally can't recall a time when an adultery allegation swayed the court's deliberations in favor of awarding the father custody."

He said that this was a little different.

Different? How so, sir?

Different in that the "adultery" had not involved an actual adult counterparty. He pulled out an absolutely meticulously documented file of evidence that his P.I. had dug up.

OH, she said. Oh, THAT is QUITE a different matter.

To get into Harvard Law School, you need to get a 3.8-3.9 GPA and score in the top 2-3% on the LSAT.  Given Davis's personal story, she may have been cut some slack on these.

More importantly, though, if you met somebody who had a 3.8-3.9 GPA and scored in the top 2-3% on the LSAT, you'd say "huh, that person must be smart"--but toss Harvard Law School (or Yale Law School or Stanford or Harvard Business School, whatever) into the mix and for some reason everybody switches that to "ZOMG, genius!"

226 Speaking of just getting here, I've got a question:

Comparing this situation to the  minor dust-up we had earlier  (re: O'Donnell and  Castle competing in Conn for the R nomination),  suppose you are the Democrats, and it's essentially your decision as to how best to run in Texas.

Do  you put up some nondescript Dem who sounds more like a Republican, knowing he is likely to lose anyway, or do you run a Wendy Davis, who will be a bit of a wild card, but will be able to whip up the loyals?

Granted, as far as I know Davis has never proclaimed herself to be a witch, but she's  got some 'itch in her somewhere, I would think.  Still, the Dems don't seem to mind  living off her back here, and unlike some Republicans, they aren't likely to turn on her if she beats a  more conservative Dem for the nomination.

He's the author of Bush's Brain and my six-month crusade against him, culminating on the night Dan Rather resigned, is why he now is relegated to reporting only on Texas politics. My guess is that the Democrat Party knows the dirt on Davis, wants her out, and used Wayne Slater to force her out. 1. March, 2004 - Slater breaks the story of Bush supposedly weaseling out of his National Guard Service and introduces Colonel Burkett to the American public. I start my crusade against Slater. 2. Slater works with and often teams up with DMN reporter Mark Wrolstad. 3. Mark Wrolstad's wife happens to be Mary Mapes. 4. Mary Mapes is the producer behind Dan Rather's fake documents story. 5. September 2004 - as the Dan Rather story unravels, all the DMN editors who backed Slater suddenly really, really want to talk with me. Fun evening. 6. Mapes fired, Slater demoted, but the Dallas Morning News still never publicly came clean.

318 Ordinarily, I'm the first to say "We're not electing mother (or father) of the year, so maybe that stuff should stay private". And ordinarily, I'm a little defensive of mothers without custody (like my mom) being accused of "abandoning" their children---life is complicated, and if you want to address fathers' rights, you absolutely have to stop acting like letting a child stay with the father = abandonment. Fathers are plenty capable of being custodial parents. But this, ALL this...it's just too much. It's ugly.

People pay Harvard level tuition for law schools much, much worse than Harvard.  Very few have a 30% failure rate, though some fourth tier schools approach that.  What is common among low ranked schools is to have the percentage of people who fail the bar higher than 30%.

This is an entirely different debate, but I'd argue the chief reason people still attend is that 1.) law schools fudge the employment numbers that they provide to prospective students and 2.) television shows and movies depict law as being a more lucrative profession than it often is.

356 339 I had an Uncle who went off to MIT in the 20's.
During their freshman orientation, they were told to look left and
right, because one of the three people (including themselves) would not
be there at graduation.

It wasn't only MIT but was pretty standard in the engineering field for most good schools.

Posted by: Hrothgar at January 20, 2014 08:50 PM (o3MSL)

It actually used to be pretty standard for law schools as well.  The "look left, look to the right" bit was in The Paper Chase.  However, that was written about law school in the 1940s.  The experience was like being on a different planet compared to what it is today.

funniest line:

Texas is imposing the most burdensome training for the navigators who help people enroll for health care. Although these folks already spend 30 hours training before they even begin helping people through the process, TDI is asking for them to undergo 40 hours of additional training, as well as pay a $200-$800 fee. By comparison, in Texas insurance agents only undergo 40 hours of training, childcare center caregivers get only eight hours of pre-service training, and to operate a vehicle in Texans you only need 32 hours of classroom instruction.

email from Big Chief Elizabeth Warrne Dec 21 '13:

When Wendy Davis stood up on the floor of the Texas Senate for nearly 13 hours to block a radical anti-choice bill, I wanted to give her a Texas-sized high-five.

The next day, I called Wendy to let her know that the whole country was cheering her on. I told her to keep fighting for all of us – and we would keep fighting for her.

Six months later, our champion Wendy is running for governor of Texas. She's not afraid of a tough fight, and neither are we.

Wendy's team is trying to raise $500,000 by December 31st – and she needs our help. Can you give $5 or more to help Wendy reach her goal?

The GOP knows that Wendy Davis is special, and they are scared that her victory in 2014 could turn the tide against Republican victories in Texas. National Republicans have already dumped an astonishing $21 million into her opponent's campaign war chest.

I know it sounds tough to overcome odds like that. But I want you to remember something: When I decided to run for the Senate, Scott Brown already had a $10 million in the bank, and Wall Street was ready to spend bazillions more to help him. Lots of people said we couldn't win.

But we outraised him, we out-worked him, and last November we won thanks to your incredible grassroots support.

Wendy has fought the failed leadership in Texas time and time again, no matter what the critics and skeptics say. That's what she'll keep doing throughout her campaign, and that's what she'll do as governor of Texas.

Grassroots support is critical in Wendy's race. If she's going to win this fight, she needs us. Let's help her team raise $500,000 before 2014. Give $5 – or whatever you can – today.

You may not know this, but I have a special place in my heart for Texas. I'm a University of Houston graduate, and I spent nearly ten years teaching first at UH and then at UT-Austin.  We still have lots of family around the state – so I'm doing some very personal campaigning for Wendy.

The Texans I know want the same thing that all of us want: a fair shot and a level playing field to succeed.

That's what Wendy Davis is going to fight for each and every day as governor of Texas.  Don't wait – make a contribution to her campaign right now.

Thank you for being a part of this,

Elizabeth

Over at Legal Insurrection there is a piece on how her campaign is trying to keep her ex-husband quiet.  Mentioned also is how the dem party itself is behind some of the negative press coming out about her.  My bet is that she left a lot of tracks other than just abandoned children from her first and second marriages.

A woman like this probably has a lot of skeletons in the closet - pictures too.

528 She left her second husband DAYS after he finished paying off her student loans (cashing in HIS 401k). She's a user. Her second husband got custody of both her first daughter (with another man) and their daughter together. She sounds like an awful "mother".  She also lied in testimony about her age when she divorced 1st hubby (she says 19, but she was 21.... why would anyone lie about something so trivial?).

I'm glad she's wasting her $$ on a race she'll never win because it's good for Texas' economy (spending money is always a good thing) and it shows the world one more time what horrible people the Left are.

I don't know when this stopped. I suspect it was during the 1960s, when lefty university administrators and faculty realized that the male students they weeded out would most likely be sent to The War, and since the universities were already pretty well full of leftists who disliked The War, that was that for rigorous standards.

Then of course after The War, tuition rates were starting to go up steadily, so every student was a potential cash cow to be milked, and no one was ready to say nay to that.

The latest date I recall having had anyone relate the "look to your left, look to your right" was Columbia in the 1950s. Obviously quite a while before the never observed in classes Choom Clown arrived there.

Posted by: Paranoidgirlinseattle at January 20, 2014 05:35 PM (RZ8pf)

558 I don't think its "war on women" to point out that there's a *pattern* on her decisions that is in line with feminism's me-first perspective. There's a pattern of her choosing her career over kids and family, not just a single decision to got to Harvard.

Abortion proponents like to characterize the decision as women's life vs. the baby's/fetus's life. The decision is typically about how the pregnancy affects the woman, such as "my body, my choice!" and referring in to a "women's health" issue as if pregnancy is a disease. Wendy appears to have applied that perspective to later decisions - law school, late hours, divorce/relinquishing custody. Why is it wrong to point that out when it's in line with her pet cause/claim to national fame, late-term abortion rights?

If you aren't then you're just another opinion with an asshole.

If you are, you're the reason we've lost elections but of course you can't believe that or at least admit it cause then you'd be out of a job for you're past advice.

Why do you continue this. No one cares about what you're opinion is and you do it in such a drab and boring way that you're just becoming a pain in the ass.

Or is THAT what this (and you're other forays into sermonizing and lecturing you've done here in the past) is all about?

To teach us morons what the facts are? You'll never get us to admit you've made any good points (mainly because you haven't made any) because no one likes a smart ass and especially one who's a dumbass.

Or is it that you just want some attention? Like how you used to get it from your mother (the whore) by pooping in your pants. So you come here and drop your little turds expecting us to praise your wit and insight to the future of the GOP.

I gotta tell you MOO all you're doing is smearing shit on your lips and grinning like a fool while we all laugh at you.

Yep. My dad died when I was 8 and my little brother was 4. Mom didn't re-marry until I was 15. Stepdad didn't even enter into the picture until I was 10. Mom, who was a real single mother, went back to school at night while also working full time so she could get a better job. It took her over six years to complete her BA and she paid it off as she went. Even after stepdad was in the picture, she would never, ever have left us to finish school, even if it were Ivy League. Even as teenagers, we needed our mom and she was awesome enough that she made sure, busy as she was, that she was always there for us when we needed her. 683 In ancient Rome (2500 bc) abortions were somewhat irrevelant. The Romans had a "try before you buy" system. You could legally kill your child until it reached what they called the "age of reason", which was set at about the age of 4 years. Sort of a super-abortion with warranty and return priveleges. So, we have progressed somewhat from those rather barbaric days. Well, some of us have. 'Some' might approve of such a system.

It's not what she did as much as that she was conscious that it was wrong and would look bad so she LIED ABOUT IT.

Yeah leaving the hubby just after the last loan payment was a dick move. but the rest apparently he was cool with (and maybe even the last loan payment. some guys are like that)

It's that she knew it wouldn't like right so she lied to cover it.

But HE at least is either honest and has integrity OR he WAS ticked about being taken advantage of and so he's getting his licks in.

Either way she's only talking about this because someone decided she's not the be all and end all for the Dems getting the Governorship.

780 I don't condem a woman who has justified reasons for leaving her children, even giving them up, sometimes it is the only solution. But, in the case of Wendy Davis she wanted it both ways, she both left them behind and tried to use the "poor single mom struggling to get by card". I can't square that circle.

783 look, if Mrs. Wendy Davis came back from Boston with her shiny new degree and then the four of them lived happily ever after, I don't think anyone here would be using the word "abandoned".  but she didn't.  she returned home, after cheating on hubby, and promptly filed for divorce, in which she voluntariliy gave up all custody.  that to me *strongly* suggests that yeah, while she was away in Boston, she had all but abandoned them.

799 Found it on Google Books, pp. 35-6.

The infanticide law was set down by Romulus and Remus - which means, legendary times.

That'd be ~700 BC by tradition. Of course it might be pre-Indo-European because the Greeks did it too.

805 I don't understand the "You can't win being pro-life in the 21st century" argument. In regards to gay rights, I get it. But polling suggests young people are more pro-life than older people. The pro-life position is more viable now than when we won before. We have had candidates say stupid things that get distorted and liv's just believe the meme, but that's not because they're rabidly pro abortion.

806 Single childless woman in her thirties here. What Davis did was despicable. Lands herself a nice rich husband soon after her divorce, uses him to pay her law school bills AND raise her kids (yes, the fact that she left them with him while she went halfway across the country speaks volumes), divorces him as soon as the money is paid and gives us custody of the younger kid to him, no questions asked. On top of that, she has the audacity to sell herself as a struggling single mother when she had a rich sugar daddy to pay for everything AND raise her kids for her. And I haven't even touched the adultery issues. Maybe there were other reasons it was convenient to stay in Boston away from the husband and kids. Probably learned a lot more firsthand about her favorite medical procedure at that point than she's currently willing to share. The point here is that if my radically pro-abort liberal feminist mother ran for political office her life story wouldn't sound a lot better. My stepsisters have similar stories about their mother. We were all on the cusp of adulthood when our parents split up and they were all highly interested in oversharing the gory details. Wendy Davis sadly isn't typical or unusual. There are a lot of young women out there who have born the brunt of that generation of young mothers who filed for divorce because they needed to be "free" or thought they could trade in the current father of their kids for a newer model. I'd bet a lot of us aren't keen on cheerleading this type of behavior once they know the details. That said, what disgusts me about this woman most of all is that she assumes that all Texan women agree with her and that she has the right to speak for them. A lot of them clearly do not. Mr. Moo Moo and his ilk may think that he knows what every woman under the age of 35 really thinks, but he doesn't. A significant portion of us are pro-life and hold conservative values of some some sort. We aren't allowed to talk about them because the media has already decided what we think, but that doesn't mean we don't exist. Wendy Davis may claim to represent MILLIONS of women, but the vast majority of those women live in her head.

807 Um, Moo Moo, you seem to think that most of the country, including that always-coveted yet notoriously fickle yoot vote, is pro-baby slaughter. You might want to check those polls again. The country is overwhelmingly pro-life. For some it's religious, but for many, it's just scientific fact. (If it was purely that icky-poo Christianity, there wouldn't be a very large and growing secular pro-life movement. Hell, there are even pro-life Democrats) Only a very loud and obnoxious minority believes that live begins the moment the mother decides she wants the child. Oh, and if some Mysterious Stranger offers you unlimited knowledge and worldly pleasures in exchange for your soul? Let me go on record as saying that it's a bad idea to take him up on his offer. Just sayin'.
