— Ace Which would be good.
Democrats’ prospects for 2014 do not look rosy. There is little chance that they will retake the House, and a good chance they will lose seats. Even worse, there is a significant chance that they will lose control of the Senate. Our forecasting model said as many as two months ago. That forecast continues to square with the sense of many analysts — even those who mocked the forecast....
One key piece of information is whether candidates have held an elective office before and, if so, which one. Unsurprisingly, political science research has long shown that candidates who have held elective office and higher levels of office tend to do better on Election Day. They usually run better campaigns and make fewer mistakes, if only because theyÂ’ve done it before.
As we have begun to incorporate candidate experience into the model, our initial sense is this: Republicans may have a far better chance of winning control of the Senate than we or other analysts previously thought. Here is a preliminary estimate: The GOP could have as much as a 4 in 5 chance of controlling the chamber.
Numerous factors could upset this analysis, such as unexpected, weak candidates winning where the analysis assumes more experienced, stronger candidates.
Of course, none of that really matters anymore, because Chuck Todd has declared Obamacare "unrepealable."
ppearing on Monday's Today, NBC's chief White House correspondent and political director Chuck Todd seized on ObamaCare hitting the six million sign-up mark by the March 31 deadline, proclaiming: "So at a minimum, the importance of hitting the six million....it means the law is unrepealable....It means that it's here to stay." Todd made no mention of only 26% of Americans supporting ObamaCare in a new poll. [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]Co-host Matt Lauer accepted Todd's declaration and wondered about the political impact of the health care law: "You can't repeal it, but does that mean seven months down the road, as the midterm elections come around, that this will be any less of an issue in terms of close races in congressional districts?"
I have no idea how Chuck Todd would get to this "unrepealable" notion, apart from pure fanboism.

It gives power to the State. It employs State personnel. It pays off State clients. And it is a fait accompli, which automatically makes repeal extremist.
The GOP gets the Senate, the first order of business will be to ensure that it does not lose the Senate in 2016. That means not "scaring the horses", said livestock being the American voter.
To repeal Obamacare is to repeal America, as the (real) American system is today.

Hypothetically, I guess it's possible. But, remember, this is the GOP we're talking about. Not Conservatives.
I have zero faith that the party as constructed will do sh*t about sh*t because, well, not the hill to die on, and comity, and musn't upset the delicate middle, and we only have 1/3 of the government.
No confidence whatsoever in the machine. In fact I'll start calling it anti-confidence. The GOP wins. Yippee. And then, should the same players overall remain, the great purging of the "Tea Party" proceeds as planned.

Sure, it's optional. But I'm talking about priorities. Pre-Obamacare MILLIONS of people went without health insurance because they just didn't prioritize it. They felt like it wasn't that important.

SP is so keen to bolster the ranks of conservative women in office, her "mama grizzlies", that she sometimes gets overenthusiastic and throws her support behind women who aren't necessarily all that conservative but who are women. Ayotte is emblematic.
Perhaps a return to "pick the most electable conservative candidate" is in order, and doing so without gender weighting the scale.

McAdams, the "solution" for pre-existing conditions is called welfare. Or any other name that people might like, but that's what it is. "Insurance" is an actual business model - one of the foundations of the modern developed world, in fact. It is the simplest business model in the universe, as it is literally nothing more than applied math, based on long-term data. I know you know this - but in a country so dumbed-down (as always, I speak here strictly of "educated" people), probably beyond repair, recapturing the meaning of words is actually a big part of any probably-futile attempt to right the ship.
Pre-existing conditions cannot be "insured". Various schemes might succeed in spreading cost and risk around - though so far they have been tried and mostly failed, far as I know.

The thing about pre-existing conditions is that the very notion of "insuring" against them is absurd, so it plays into the Left's rhetorical construct.
That said, there have been various ideas floated for "pre-existing conditions insurance", where you buy insurance against the possibility of developing a pre-existing condition.
The only thing that Obamacare "accomplishes" that couldn't have been accomplished in the private insurance market is the redistribution of health care dollars from the healthy to the unhealthy. Given that the Left generally sides with scum, parasites and the other flotsam and jetsam that Nature has vomited up in the modern age, this is no surprise. And Obamacare isn't "private insurance". They are using private insurers as a distribution system, but the product design is pure government handiwork.

For the GOP to take the Senate, after the damage caused by the shutdown, the only solution is amnesty.
(OK, rather than get a surprising number of enraged responses that assume the idiotic statement above is anything but sarcasm ...... IT'S SARCASM! Probably only because I've given up any real hope, I enjoy reprising some of the astonishingly clueless stuff that comes out of the mouths of Beltway/GOPe types ...... and also, incomprehensibly, out of the keyboards of some our smartest commenters here)

Why cause you believe it to be so? We don't have any basis to assume that, we are in uncharted territory here, maybe something magical will happen but there's no evidence it will. We have country after country with the debt to GDP ratio over 200% and we'll be there soon. To think the world can continue for decades that way is insane.

Even if they do manage to gain control of congress, as many here have pointed out, they won't do anything. How many government programs, once put in place, are then removed? I can think of one: Prohibition.
The rest have remained like inoperable tumors.

"The important thing is to get Harry Reid's criminal ass out of control."
As bad as Mitch often is, he's infinitely preferable to Dingy Harry.
Obama's life will get a whole lot more complicated without Reid running the Senate.
Also: SCOTUS and other federal court nominations. Without the filibuster, getting Senate control becomes of enormous importance, to stop Obama's court-packing.
Posted by: torquewrench at March 31, 2014 08:19 PM (noWW6)
Yeah, well, the Retarded Turtle McConnell already said he's going to restore those filibuster rules that Pedo Harry shat on.
If only one good thing came out of the 2014 elections, I would want it to be McConnell's defeat. Well, that and we take back the senate. Pure joy.

Good point, LDC. Which confirms that this particularly stupid chapter in our national history will in fact lead to absolutely no gains or lessons learned. Just keep the massive dysfunction of the previous medical finance system (distorted by federal tax code, mangled beyond recognition by federal and state mandates, cartelized by state regulation), tack on the particularly stupid pre-existing condition crap, season with the jaw-dropping 26-yr olds as "children" dependents, and top off with massive subsidies so that more people can flush more national money down the toilet.

So any sane, intelligent GOP supporters won't have to actually wait until the next Congress for their disappointment/horror. The disastrously stupid, incredibly offensive assault on rule of law and fairness, and genuflection to racism and clueless greed will probably follow within a week or two. I knew the coming election would affect me directly since I am self-employed as a survivalist/prepper instructor and have always had to pay taxes out-of-pocket. Sure enough I get huge tax bill this year. Naturally I was pretty steamed. At the IRS. At Washington. Even at Obama himself for promising I could keep my hard-earned money.
Then I start hearing all these horror stories from the Republicans in Congress and on Fox about the coming election. Millions are losing their representation (like me!), the voter registration is difficult to use, the candidates are more aggressive, the policies are insane. I was getting angrier by the day.
But in my line of work results are all that matter so I decided to try voting Democrat. Lo and behold there were no problems voting absentee. I'm going to be honest, I'm paying $14 a month more in taxes. But that's with a free phone and thanks to the Democrats we no longer have to worry about employment or retirement savings.
I'm fortunate enough in life I don't qualify for EITC but I can only imagine what a great deal the handouts must be for those who aren't as fortunate.
Voting Democrat turned out to be a great deal for me despite my initial skepticism and anger. SSDI works. But don't take my or anyone else's word for it. Go to the polling booth and see for yourself.

Private insurance is when I decline or purchase collision on my auto policy once the car is paid off. The Obamacare products were designed around necessitating the purchase of coverage at actuarially-unjustifiable prices to facilitate the transfer of dollars which could have been used for any purpose by the healthy to the unhealthy for their use in purchasing health care procedures. The government is using the private sector as a distribution mechanism, but all of the important decisions are out of the private sectors hands and in the hands of HHS. Carney is an idiot, so he has plausible deniability here, but I'm betting he's just blowing smoke for the mouth-breathers that hang on every word coming out of the White House or the DNC.

rickl, actually, the AUMF for the post-9/11 period and Iraq were very detailed and long-winded declarations of war, in effect. Suppose it would have been (out place, but funny) humor if someone had tacked on to each resolution "We hereby declare war". Funny mostly to see what the Luap Nor idiots would then say.
OregonMuse, the one not-implausible claim for a GOP Senate I have read is that it could choke off the pipeline of absurdly un-American soft-fascist authoritarian "judges" being appointed by these stupid fringe freaks in the WH. Maybe. The kook from Philly was recently sidelined, but that might have been because the notoriety of his bad connections is high on the scale.
To darken everyone's day, as a near life-long Beltway denizen who spent many many years working in the Senate and other institutions in DC - thus with as practical and first-hand a perspective as anyone - I see very little changing/being prevented from a GOP Senate. That is, one dominated by the incredibly tiny characters that make up the GOP (and most of the Beltway, in general) today.

Amnesty. By Thanksgiving.
And if for some unforeseen reason that fails to happen, even better: the most brazen and aggressive EO yet, one that will expand the already-broad de facto repeal of most immigration law with an in-your-face directive to ICE to suspend ALL deportations, cease even the laughable fake background checks for DREAMERs, and cease co-operation with all state govts. (a la AZ).
Like some here, part of me *almost* wants to see something like that happen. The country is a huge car wreck scene, and while make a habit of never rubber-necking at real crash scenes, this one is irresistible (aside from directly hugely negatively affecting me personally). In fact, there's a book called "Insurance & Behavioral Economics: Improving Decisions in the Most Misunderstood Industry" and I don't think the title is an exaggeration. Democrats play off of that misunderstanding to facilitate their political goal of control over health care spending and dumbasses who fancy themselves smartypants eat it up.

rich-at-gmu: no, do not work there now, haven't for years, but my perspective is based on many years of doing so - so my feeling may be completely wrong, but experience plus current data gives little reason for optimism. I did note the plausible impact on judicial appointments. A GOP Senate would, obviously, have at least the potential of being a speed-bump. But the fairly anemic performance of the House after the tsunami of 2010 is a pretty damning indicator of likely performance by the GOP.
Socrates: almost all of the most important shit in society and the world is, actually, extremely simple. The basic business model of real insurance stands out, as few businesses are little more than applied math/statistics. But that is quantum mechanics to today's dumbed-down "elite" types. As is the key role that insurance has played in the modern economy of the world. Clean water, secured debt, insurance - three factors without which today's world would not have been possible. And two out of the three are under assault. Mind-boggling.

If there are any nads there at all, they probably borrowed 'em from Rick Perry, who clearly has extra.

eman, I am intrigued and wonder if you have a newsletter.
But really - do you mean Dem/GOP incentive of more power is the main one, and of course pulls in the direction of non-repeal? (just guessing here)

I have to go with your judgment on this. Have a feeling Congress - in the middle of the night - some sort of amnesty lite is going to be passed. and I don't have much hope even with majorities in both houses.

Palin as president would cause the left to die of the fantods.
Along with some of the right.
And I would laugh and laugh.

I have been saying this over and over, the establishments in both parties have the votes for amnesty, they are just waiting (the GOP) until after the November elections to do it so there will not be any repercussions for them.
Because seriously, who ELSE are you gonna vote for? (In the mind of the GOP)
Posted by: NWConservative at March 31, 2014 06:12 PM (buZ/8)
Oh - standard disclaimer - no less than the ridiculous "president", the GOP and Dems are a symptom, not a cause. Sure - the freaks of the Dem party and the empty suits in the GOP do not represent your average moron here - but they sure as hell, on average and over time, represent a working majority of the country.
No excuse - press distortion, being busy, falling for the ridiculous pitches made by pols (in many Dems' cases, the gap between their campaigns and actual voting is breath-taking, esp. outside the northeast) - changes this.
So here we (rightly) whine and fulminate about individuals and the party, but as I always say, the proper target of your ire (well, most of it) is that in-law, that softball team member, that work colleague, that church member, that nice guy at the auto shop, et al. THEY are what makes the current national debacle possible.

For a second, consider how incredibly stupid and naive amnesty would be.
Leave out that it would be a spectacular assault on the rule of law, and the essence of unfairness, not to mention a major victory for racism and top-down governance. Ignore all that for a moment.
Amnesty will not solve a single problem. It will - as surely as water runs downhill - in fact exacerbate every problem connected to illegal immigration. Why? Uh ..... because it will confirm that there never will be any immigration enforcement ("never" in a practical sense, from the perspective of rational would-be illegal immigrants). Y'all come on down, 'hear?
The 1986 act, on which I worked, has its own disastrous legacy - due to amnesty. Not only was amnesty guaranteed to make matters worse - absent enforcement of the other two elements of Simpson-Mazzoli - but even the amnesty ITSELF wasn't enforced/implemented properly. The estimated fraud in that process was massive.
Amnesty will tremendously exacerbate every related problem - public school and public welfare burdens, ERs closing, crime (I believe in recent years, at one point, over 90% - look at that number again - of outstanding felony warrants in LA County were for non-citizens), on and on. Why? Because it will only mean, that for every bit of economic growth/job availability that manages to emerge from the suffocating policy environment in the US, even more illegals will come. Because easier, and really no prospect of law enforcement.

"GOP Now Has 80% Chance of Recapturing the Senate"
And do what with the Senate? See, this is my problem: I no longer believe that the GOP will promote and fight for pro-liberty / limited government principals.
They just want power - they think they'd just be better managers of big government.
I don't want big government. I want freedom.

Practically every big rig on the road has a fire extinguisher in the cab, accessible from a small door on the outside. Usually bearing a painted-on sign: "Fire Extinguisher Inside". Of course it's possible the wreck made it inaccessible.
Everyone really should carry a fire extinguisher in every car they drive. Most of my drivers have one.
