— Ace

There's a claim made about good movies, that if you removed all music and dialogue from a movie, so that it was just silent visuals, it should still tell a story. You should still get the gist, you should still be able to follow it.

Here's a story without music or dialogue:

So adorbz.

Niedermeyer's Dead Horse (@mflynny) sends the full story, which is unreasonably cute.

Below, the movie version, with dialogue, music, and subtitles.

I got the first .gif from @lachlan.

If something bad/wrong happens there is always a reason that has nothing to do with chance/act of God, and everything to do with Republicans or George W. Bush or conservatives. I couldn't believe that they were blaming conservatives because conservatives never want to spend any money on anything so it's all our fault that dogs aren't being taken care of. 103 No, because we actually want Miley to live a long, happy life, whereas I, personally, want Obammy to die cold, alone and miserable, drowning in his own piss. Also while living in a cardboard box over a heating grate in Chicago as the snow climbs past four feet. Sorry but none of that's included in my deal with him. Thanks to paybacks from all the cronyism, Barack Hussein Obama will be the first billionaire ex-President. He will use his community organizer experience to establish a national network of radical community organizers to continue the destruction of the United States. He will die at the ripe old age of 90. After that, he gets to ride a certain part of my anatomy for all eternity, but- well, all good things come to those who wait.

106 Sickening to see how this dog was abandoned. Thank God for the rescuers and volunteers. My contempt for the people who would politicize animal rescue as described knows no bounds. They would rather see the dogs suffer, than God forbid, have a conservative as part of the solution. Truly warped beyond repair.

I'm going to make a blanket assumption that      the kind of people who would politicize animal rescue    are    probably     the sort of people who wouldn't approve of rape victims    receiving assistance from   church groups.     In other words,   inhuman   monsters who should roast in the infernal fires of Hell.

132

There's a claim made about good movies, that if you removed all music and dialogue from a movie, so that it was just silent visuals, it should still tell a story. You should still get the gist, you should still be able to follow it.

The Raid is like that.  (See, this is still on topic even though it's not another "awww, mean people suck" comment).

The Raid is pure visual poetry.  Guys at the bottom of a building fight their way to the guy at the top of a building, with epically choreographed mayhem and carnage.  With the benefit of subtitles a tale of corruption, revenge, betrayal, and brotherly love unfolds.  It is the gold standard of action violence movies.

The Raid II totally blew the franchise.  It was as if they thought Jaws was good because it had a shark, so remake it with a bigger shark.  It was all talk talk talk and Daddy issues, punctuated by meaningless violence.

Quelle disappointment.

Just goes to show you can't fucking trust any of them! Posted by: EC at May 01, 2014 04:15 PM (GQ8sn) PETA is just as bad as Obama about saying one thing and doing another. Jay Carney has nothing on PETA in terms of the PR. DO NOT believe PETA, Humane Society of the US, or the ASPCA. They are all making their administrators rich and not doing much for animals (and PETA is affirmatively killing animals, especially pit bulls, saying they're dangerous.) Only good organization on national level is Animal Legal Defense Fund, in that most of the money goes to helping animals. Humane Society of the US is to Michael Vick what NAACP is to Donald Sterling--you pay us, we'll forgive you no matter what. Libs in animal rescue HATE conservatives because they believe conservatives have created the society where all these poor animals are being mistreated. Yet Obama only has purebred dogs (not even rescued purebreds). It's conservatives like Doris Day and Bob Barker who have done the most in terms of real giving to homeless pets.

176 VERY common that animal shelters (both municipal and private rescue groups) are corrupt and take dogs that are stray and "sell" them. If your purebred dog goes missing here they sometimes don't even make it to the shelter-- they often have a waiting list of people who will pay for a Yorkie, etc., and they'll just deliver them. A racket. Partly due to corruption on the governmental level, often due to rescue groups needing funds and thinking that they know better than the owner--if you let the dog get out you are clearly not a good owner so they're just substituting their judgment and taking the dog away from you. Very self-righteous attitude, we know better than anyone who should and shouldn't have dogs. I am involved in a growing field called "shelter law" in which we challenge these people--under the right not to be deprived of your property without due process of law. Libs don't get it; they figure they know better who should have YOUR dog.

The big operations like PETA, ASPCA and HSUS are all lib fronts.

199 Posted by: Marta Richards at May 01, 2014 04:31 PM (GVA22) You are correct about some supposed "rescue" organizations being nothing but a racket for stolen pets. They steal them right out of your yard, then ship them to new owners for a fee. I tried to get one shut down in our area. I would see cats or dogs that were patients of ours at "adoption" meets, after having gone missing from their owners. One was a shop cat that lived in a family-run store nearby. This "rescue" organization stole her right out of the store.

Posted by: Boss Moss at May 01, 2014 12:42 PM (LJ7Ze)

208 The most tear-jerking "dog video" of all time was (if I remember correctly) an old "Outer Limits" episode. The plot: An old hillbilly is out at his fishing hole with his trusty companion, a faithful hunting dog. The dog chases something into the water and starts to drwon, so the guy dives in to save him. They both go under...but somehow later end up on the bank. But everything now feels "different"; the audience realizes (but the characters do not) that both the man and the dog drowned and are now dead, in the afterlife. Feeling something is strange, the man and the dog start walking together along a misty country road. The come to a fork in the road. There is a stranger standing straight upright next to the fork. The man says, "I don't know which way to go. Where does this fork lead?" The stranger says, "It leads to heaven. They are waiting for you there." And he gestures for the man to take the side fork. But as the man turns to take the road to heaven, his dog accompanying him, the strangr suddenly stops them. "I'm sorry," the stranger says, "but only you can go. Dogs are not allowed in heaven." The man stops, think for a moment, and then says, "Well, if dogs are not allowed, then I'm not going either! Me and Rover will always be together." The stranger is shocked and tries to convince him that he must go to heaven, even if it means leaving his dog behind. "This is your last chance, " the stranger says. "Once you pass this fork in the road, you can never come back." "So be it!" says the man, and he walks on down the road with his dog by his side, leaving heaven behind. They walk on for a while, and eventually get to another fork in the road, with a different stranger standing next to it. "Where does this fork lead to?" says the man. "It leads to heaven," says the new stranger. "But I can't bring my dog -- right?" says the man, doubtfully. "Of course you can bring your dog!" says the stranger. "Both you and Rover have a place there together" The man looks a little confused and points back where he came from. "But then -- where did that first form in the road lead?" "That was the road to hell. The devil was trying to tempt you to deny the love in your heart."

211 How can a few million signups in a nation of 300 million have any significance? It helps that no human (or, at least, very very few humans) can conceptualize any number over some-thousand. Big numbers become nothing but their numeral representations. So even though it's an inconsequential number in relation to the population, "several million" still *sounds* big.

Posted by: Boss Moss at May 01, 2014 12:47 PM (LJ7Ze)

217 I am suing Pit Bulls and Parolees because they adopted out a stolen dog--and the way they're resisting the suit I have to believe they knew the dog was stolen or even worse contracted to provide the dog and had someone steal the dog on a contract. I have had death threats from these darling people (whom Animal Planet showcases as being so wonderful) and from animal rescuers who say anyone whose dog has been stolen must be negligent. Anyway, it's amazing to me how animal rescuers are little fascists when it comes to they know better than anyone else. I am actually almost in favor of getting rid of animal shelters totally and letting those people who allow animals to breed indiscriminately in their neighborhoods deal with the feral dog packs they create. Now they can just phone up Animal Control and the dogs will be picked up and killed, and they don't have to account for their actions. And animal abusers get only a slap on the hand. I am not a whale hugger, believe me. I just love dogs and want them not to be abused by humans. And thanks to those who gave me praise. I am no saint but I have worked hard to help animals and their owners and to make governments and rescue groups operate within the law and the Bill of Rights.

219 Not so sure about mixing big and little doggehs. It really depends on the doggehs. Sometimes it's just fine (to the point of being "too cute"), and other times it's not. Like they say in the linked article- in this case it wouldn't be good for them to be adopted together because Miley is so active and Frankie is not- just playing she might hurt him if not supervised closely enough.

227 Thanks for posting this Ace, it's nice to see a happy ending for a doggeh who is a survivor and thrived on kindness I strongly prefer the company of kittehs and doggehs most of the time nowadays. As for those AZ animal people who screamed that they didn't want conservative help, they're like the PETA people who killed far more animals than they claim to have saved. It doesn't matter to them because "their feelings were good and that's what counts" Doggehs and Kittehs don't politicize everything. That's another reason I love them

"Homeless" people now use them to get more donations from people, then they dump them, and of course losers who want a cute dog then get tired of him dump them too.
