Anyone Who Said The Left Would Blame the Flight 370 Disappearance on Global Warming on Day 13, Please Go to the Cashier to Collect Your Winnings
— Ace

See, it's harder to find the wreckage of the plane, because we done messed up the ocean's currents with our global warmenating behavior.

The claim is that global warming has already disrupted the expected currents, and... whatever. You read it.

Blame this one on @theh2.

Meanwhile, a French satellite has, maybe, found additional possible wreckage floating in the ocean. But as of yet, no human beings have gotten close enough to the various possible debris fields to confirm they're part of Flight 370.

Details on the French data were not immediately released. The statement from Malaysia called the information "new satellite images," while a statement from France's Foreign Ministry said "radar echoes taken by a satellite" had located floating debris but made no mention of imagery.

For those less resigned, furious, and lazy than I - has there been a concise, appropriately contemptuous, take-down of this facially ridiculous idea that the "excess heat" (excess to what standard?) caused by AGW has been "hidden" in the oceans for the last 16 years?

I remain gobsmacked that the wildly implausible conjecture (that's what it is) that human-added CO2 could affect global climate (a concept itself that is dubious) is itself taken seriously.  But isn't claiming that somehow heat will plunge into the thermocline (against all obvious common sense and physical laws) for some reason, suddenly, after never having happened before, jumping the shark with a hydroplane at 100mph?

Posted by: non-purist at March 23, 2014 09:44 AM (afQnV)

15 I  done told you it was a microburst  downdraft of  superheated atmospheric air, enriched with ozone-hole-eating  CFCs,  that disintegrated the airliner  in mid-flight.  The pieces were blown into the ocean deep, under the thermocline layer, where all the missing atmosperic heat is hanging out, biding its time.

LCWedgie - which exact predictions made by AGW models have ever proven correct?  Oh, why bother.  Science has now been destroyed by the same ignorance, bigotry, self-dealing, and plain stupidity that has mostly wrecked economics, governance, and foreign policy.

And this is in context with the actual history of science, which as a human institution is fraught with human flaws.  Had to read Tom Kuhn's "Structure of Scientific Revolutions" about 10 times in high school/college.  It nicely demonstrated how politics and power had affected science all along.  But whereas in his history such foibles were, in the end, overcome, in our day the geocentrists and humors-based medical quacks are actually driving policy, not being undone by real science.

37 I'm holding out for my first, yeah, crazy prediction made when this mess began: Islamic radical groups connected with Chinese Muslims, and the nasty knife fight China is conducting with its minority Islamic communities; decided to hijack the plane to mount an attack against China and discredit its government's ability to protect the nation. China decides not to play and risk loss of public face; so they vaporize the entire plane when first notified of the approaching problem. It turned out that I wasn't the only one to speculate on this idea- it is presently one of the hot rumors flying around the asian nets.

48 My other top contender is one which an ex-pat in Asia favors; and he has far better sources than I do. The head of the Malaysian opposition party is in jail and may possibly be executed. The pilot was a huge fan of said leader and the movement. The hijacking was done to discredit the government by proving they were incompetent (successful result) and/or to offer a hostage trade to gain freedom for the opposition leader. He has not totally committed to backing this theory, but indicated it is a very good possibility.

59 Even if for the sake of argument you agree that all the missing heat is now in the depths of the ocean, how would it ever get out? The depths are cooold; near freezing. Thermodynamically, cold water cannot come up and heat much warmer water. True, it would chill the warm water slightly less but that's it, and the two layers of water don't mix much.

That's known as trepanning, and it has been done for thousands of years.

Evidence of trepanation has been found in prehistoric human remains from Neolithic times onward. Cave paintings indicate that people believed the practice would cure epileptic seizures, migraines, and mental disorders.

That's known as trepanning, and it has been done for thousands of years.

Evidence of trepanation has been found in prehistoric human remains from Neolithic times onward. Cave paintings indicate that people believed the practice would cure epileptic seizures, migraines, and mental disorders.

Or maybe like the Flying Dutchman (Wikipedia):

The Flying Dutchman is a legendary ghost ship that can never make port and is doomed to sail the oceans forever. The myth is likely to have originated from 17th-century nautical folklore. The oldest extant version dates to the late 18th century. Sightings in the 19th and 20th centuries reported the ship to be glowing with ghostly light. If hailed by another ship, the crew of the Flying Dutchman will try to send messages to land, or to people long dead. In ocean lore, the sight of this phantom ship is a portent of doom.

That would solve the whole fuel problem. If it is now a ghost airplane, flying the friendly skies forever, it wouldn't need anymore fuel.

136 In unusually barbed criticism of a fellow prosecutor and fellow Democrat, Philadelphia's district attorney rebuked state Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane on Friday, saying she had needlessly killed a solid corruption investigation - and besmirched the prosecutors who built the case. In an op-ed to be published in The Inquirer on Sunday, Seth Williams faulted Kane for shutting down a "sting" operation that caught at least five Philadelphia Democrats, including four state representatives, on tape accepting money or gifts. "She apparently has electronic recordings of numerous elected officials taking money while promising their votes - and she has to let them off scot-free because she would be incapable of convincing a jury of their guilt?" he wrote. Kane has said she closed the investigation in part because prosecutors had made an unduly lenient deal with the case's undercover informant, dropping 2,088 charges against him in a massive fraud case in exchange for his cooperation. That, she said, rendered his credibility "horrendously tainted" and would have prevented prosecutors from winning in court. Williams blasted that decision. "The Attorney General of Pennsylvania drops a case supported by hundreds of hours of devastating tapes because the main witness got a deal on a bunch of government fraud charges," he wrote. "As a DA, I think this might be the most disturbing aspect of the whole sordid spectacle. You don't have to be a prosecutor to know this is how it's done."

228 Cape Cod is my emotional homeland. Lived for years in Scituate. Fished everywhere all the time. (Stuck in CT because of the evil ex and the love of my kids...nearly fledged). Scituate has a 10' tide, up to 12' on spring tides (that's a moon thing, not the season). The entire estuary drains and fills twice a day, just a constantly changing landscape. And the tide moves forward an hour each day, so if the morning high is at 6:00 today it will be at almost 7:00 tomorrow. So when you hit fish at a certain tide at 5:00 AM in a certain spot, you can't come back to those conditions. The tide will be different at that time tomorrow. It will be two weeks before the same time and tide come together, and by that time the migration will have proceeded, the baitfish will have grown. Everything is always different. God, I love that place.

242 If you have Netflix, go to the video, FF through the first five minute of fluff, then watch when she performs. Watch one song, then re-consider whether she is talented or not. I was born in that corner of SE Pennsylvania -- just outside of Philly -- and a lot of very talented, very tough people were born and raised there. Would Celine Dion -- youngest of 14 children -- be less talented if she were named only 'Celine'? Posted by: Ugg Boots at March 23, 2014 03:54 PM (oGrEy) Netflix no have got. And I don't regard Celine Dion as very talented, anyway. Leastwise, she doesn't work in a genre that I much care about. If she were to try her chops at blues singing, I might take notice. The problem with entertainers that work under a single name is that it's presumptuous. They are screaming, "Look at me! I'm so important that only one solitary name is needed to identify me!" And I draw a distinction between those who choose to go by a single name, and those few, who, after years or decades of hard work, become so well known that a single name suffices to identify them. In other words, Pink ain't Dylan.

251 I suspect whenever it's found there will be no one in the cockpit. Cockpit voice recorder is over-written every two hours, so there's never going to be evidence of what happened the first two hours. Posted by: Ugg Boots at March 23, 2014 02:45 PM (oGrEy) That was the plan of that guy who hijacked a Federal Express freight plane in 1994. He planned to bludgeon the crew to death, then crash the plane in the mountains so it would look like an accident. He knew the cockpit recorder wouldn't have any record of what happened if he waited for the tape to record over the murders. (His motive was to get insurance money for his family after his supposed accidental death.)
