19 It is "only" about 26F right now but expected to get down to 13F later. I say "only", but wind chill is a bitch when you have extremely high humidity. We lived a few miles from the lake and thus got lake effect snow. I do not remember getting ice and sleet and all that crap that we got in PA. She thought about it and agreed. Snow is one thing. Horizontal ice rain right into your face is another thing entirely. I think the first few seasons of Justified are up on both Netflix and Prime (Prrriiiiimmmeeee).

I'd modify that to:

Objects that have an internal heat source and objects that don't.

Your car engine is not affected by wind chill when not running.

Your pipes may be affected by wind chill as they have an internal heat source; the main and/or heat tapes or even circulating heat.

people of course are affected.

They should maybe name it temperature depreciation or degradation.

People need to look past the end of their own brainpan.  You may not like the schtick, but at least have enough awareness to recognize it for what it is.  If you can't even do that, you'll suck at the culture war.

Of course if you could bombard Mars with comets for about 50-100 years, you might build up and atmosphere of sorts.

145 If it is, it falls into the "Guam is going to tip over if we add 2 more Marines," category. Posted by: tangonine at January 06, 2014 11:38 AM (x3YFz) It already does.... something I wrote years ago... but... CO2 and climate change... the PHYSICS do not work. First, the theory of Greenhouse Gases. All energy comes to, and leaves the Earth as Radiation. Radiation comes from the Sun, in a specific spectrum (including light), and is then either Reflected back to space, absorbed by the Atmosphere, or absorbed by the earth's surface. Energy is also Radiated by all matter (called Black Body Radiation) in specific wavelengths dependent primarily on the Temperature of the mass. Matter also will absorb radiation, but different molecules absorb different frequencies of radiation energy... known as the absorption spectrum. This energy will raise the energy state of the molecule, which it will then either reradiate (as blackbody radiation), or loose energy through conduction. The theory behind a greenhouse gas is that the Gas will absorb incoming radiation from the sun, and through conduction, heat the rest of the air around it. It will also absorb IR radiation radiated by the Earth itself (black body radiation again), and use conduction to spread it to the rest of the atmosphere. So, is CO2 a Greenhouse Gas? YES, it is, but only up to a point. CO2 ONLY absorbs IR energy in well known, and clearly defined frequencies, which comprise about 8% of the IR Spectrum. This IR can come from the Sun, the Blackbody radiation of the Earth, or the Blackbody Radiation of the atmosphere itself. The problem is that ALL of the IR radiation in the Earth's biosphere, within those frequency ranges IS ALREADY BEING ABSORBED! http://www.nov55.com/atmo.html The above chart is a visual representation of the Energy absorption spectrums of the atmosphere, and the %'s of those spectrums being absorbed. If you look at the CO2 absorption frequencies, you will see that they are already at 100% absorption... or, to put it simply, there is no more energy to absorb, thus there can be no Temperature increase by adding more CO2! So, in conclusion, is CO2 a Greenhouse Gas? YES! But its already reached its maximum Greenhouse effect, adding more will not do anything. Therefore, the Cap and Trade legislation will not do anything except bankrupt us.

175 If you are trying to make liberals understand the fallacy of global warming you are doing it wrong. They will never believe no matter what facts are thrown at them because facts are not important to them. AGW is a bogus theory that was put forth by the cult of Malthus and his adherents that said that the problems of the world were really man itself. We were going to overpopulate the planet and use up all natural resources. They have been basing all of their bullshit legislation and crazy theories on this stupid and demonstrably wrong theory for decades. AGW was just another theory that anti-human assholes like John Holdren (Obama science and technology czar), Gore and other far left wackos have used to try and enforce their beliefs not the rest of us. It's about control not saving mankind. Why is gas so expensive? We have access to boatloads of it. But lefties don't want us to use it so that they can even make a plausible case for their wildly expensive and inefficient "green technologies". Liberalism is a statist set of beliefs that only wants one thing, to control all of us and make us live under the edicts of the elite. Fuck AGW and the left. They are the enemy.

183 Hey y'all late to the party. It's either 2 or -6 out depending on whose thermometer you believe (although mine is buried in snow, and it reads "2" so it's probably wrong.) And the house humidity has dropped to 18% because the heat is running so much, making my cold worse. Needless to say the wife and I slept in today (since the roads are bad and we can't make it anywhere.) In any case, random comment about the news article where the musician compares meat to pedophilia. Dude states: If I’m introduced to anyone who eats beings, I walk away. Imagine, for example, if you were in a nightclub and someone said to you, ‘Hello, I enjoy bloodshed, throat-slitting and the destruction of life.’ Well, I doubt if you’d want to exchange phone numbers.” Emphasis added. Funny thing, back when I was in the lab I was talking to one of my cohorts who told me about a predecessor, (whom I never met) and apparently nice young woman. They all went out clubbing one night and said woman met a man. They exchanged numbers, and all she had was her business card, which said something like "animal technician" on it. She wrote on the back "I kill baby mice." Still got a date I'm told. So even his assertion is wrong .

Gubmint motors. Gone are the days where the average guy can buy himself a Z28. They've over-engineered it right out of the market.

To be fair, the Z28 in question is being sold more as a track car as opposed to a daily driver.

Still overpriced though- I have to think that you could build a better street/track car for a lot less money by upgrading a stock Camaro.

But, the collector set will still buy it.

"Whaddaya mean my butt is a culo? Everyone knows it's CULU!" They're just so much easier to break down (no tools!), and I love love LOVE my H&K P2000 .40.

I don't have personal  experience but a few aquaintances have said good things about it.  Two things I do remember is it is lighter and the grip is not as wide as  other 1911s .   I also remember though that they indicated the recoil was a little more noticeable because of that.   I think they were comparing it specifically to the springfield.  Maybe the browning.  Can't remember.

Nothing against Sig or HK (proud owner of both), but I can get those anywhere, anytime.  I would like to get him a nice gift that is unique and special and not off the shelf.  Like a handmade birthday or Christmas card, which I always ask the kids to do for me.

Plus, the Marines have recently made it official with the 1911's again.  MARSOC has them.  I could find a Colt version, but if I'm going to spend at least that much, then why not go balls-out and get something one of a kind?

317 The 1911 is a 100 year old design. By now they should be as inexpensive in the gun world as a small-block Chevy is in the automotive world, and for the exact same reasons. This is why I roll my eyes whenever I hear any of the 1911 addicts say "Glock fanboi"

Anything over 500 bucks for a 1911 is way too f'n much IMO. Maybe as much as 600 for a nice one.

I intend to get a full size version, and not a commander or carry size.  I think the extra weight helps with the recoil.

321 Just returned from a usless meeting with my general mechanic, who promised me, without fail, that my sidewalk plow would be ready before the big snowfall. Cocksucker. Not only does the fuel shutoff solenoid doesn't work, there is something wrong with the heater and the salt spreader doesn't adjust from the cab, so you've got to get out every time you want to narrow the range. The good news is that all the money I've given him up until now has spent just fine. Fuck.

Surely you are mistaken. I have been reliably informed that both of my Glocks are killing machines that are only laying in wait, like cats, to murder me in my sleep because they have no safeties...and doubly if I am using the dreaded Blackhawk SERPA holster, because Glocks turn into fully automatic death-beasts when they come into contact with the SERPA...or so I've been told.

361 I've also seen many FTF incidents at the range . Funny as hell, because they have forgot to disengage the safety and it takes a couple of seconds to realize it. I also realize this is mostly with the less experienced but its still funny. I realized that switching weapons too much was degrading my abilities at the range. So I stuck to my H&K P2000 for a couple years, shooting every two weeks or so. It's a dream. However, if I switch to my 1911, or one of my Dad's 1911s, that's me (press, press, huh?). My weapon has no external safety, so when I pull the trigger, I expect it to go BLAM. So if I were to switch to a 1911 for a while, I'd have to train my muscle memory for the safety release action.

Saw an update today on the explosion at the Palestinian embassy in the Czech Republic that killed the Palestinian ambassador.  Apparently the embassy was housing a full-blown weapons cache.  And not just a few guns for the security staff either.

Palestinians hiding guns and explosives in a place that's supposed to be set aside for peaceful purposes?  Imagine that!

Also, the translated article that Powerline quotes notes that it's very likely that the Palestinians have similar caches at their other "embassies".

So this person goes back to "management" and comes back out and says-- "if she wants to do this she has to go outside."
