22 My feeling on legalization of marijuana is that all federal laws should be abolished for it as well as other drugs.  There is nothing in the Constitution that gives the federal government the authority to regulate any drug, legal or illegal. And I told a federal judge that in Columbia during jury voir dire.

It should be left totally to the States.

His drumming went to shit and he looked like absolute hell. We had to kick him out of the group. He was talented but the acid ruined him. Nowadays, he's a teetotalling, church-going Christian and a conservative. Ya never know. I tried LSD once, and that was enough to scare me off for life. 49 In my experience, potheads tend to drive quite slowly and carefully. It's not like alcohol. That well-known tinge of paranoia that comes with pot use may actually make them slightly better drivers. A Canadian university study found that of three groups, drunk, stoned and sober, the stoned drivers scored slightly higher in driving ability. That study was suppressed here in the US.

You have no idea. Have a family friend who had a warehouse for his moving company. He had to put it up for sale (business slump/bank loan requirement) and he decided to price it high. Turned into a bidding war because apparently the size, location, etc. met all requirements/local regs for growing. He got many times his initial asking price. So there are some winners in all of this...

Question:  how are you supposed to avoid a "contact high" in this    situation?  Like, you're on a    plane   that's stuffed full of   potheads,  or on a bus (*shudder*)   with a bunch of potheads, or    riding in a   taxi that's frequently used by potheads.      It's one thing to   be, say, a designated driver for a bunch of your drunk friends.  You're not going to get drunk from   just being in the vicinity of them.   But you could legitimately get a little high from being around pot smokers, and your clothes are DEFINITELY going to soak up that shit.  I always mention how I sat next to a pothead in college prose class, and when I went to work at the univ. library after class I    stank   like     marijuana.     At the very least it's embarrassing, at the worst it could   get you   fired    if your boss doesn't believe you smell like weed because you were sitting next to a guy who reeked of the stuff.

68 Tangential, but somewhat on point- Colorado state legislator (R) proposes law compelling doctors to inform DMV of any patient with diagnosis of epilepsy. Penalty up to 90 days jail or $300 fine or both. Stated motivation for the law- Case two years ago where a woman with infrequent seizures was told by her doctor not to drive, drove anyway, went 75 mph in a residential zone and plowed into a van killing a family of five. She was charged with negligent homicide, went to trial and was found not guilty. Now this bozo wants to criminalize doctors as a solution to this purported "problem". And he is an (R). Adult individuals being held accountable for their own conscious decisions and actions! Why do legislators think they have to address every little unfortunate incident via an ex post facto barn door solution?

Pot smoking drivers are a whole helluva lot safer than drunk drivers though, that I do know. They may annoy you by driving too slow, but at least they're not gonna get killed or get me killed by driving too slow. 76 >>Question: how are you supposed to avoid a "contact high" in this situation?

Honestly don't know.

My concern is actually with the bakeries that will be incorporating pot into their sweets. I don't want my kid to unknowingly eat a pot-laced brownie or cookie (though it's more likely to happen at a friends house than a bakery), especially since it's my understanding that the high from this is much longer (maybe more concentrated) that if the pot were smoked.

There was a case of this recently at CU where a couple of student brought in pot brownies for the class (without telling them about the pot) as a practical joke. Wasn't so funny when some of them ended up in the hospital.

Note: Obviously, I'm not an expert on pot, so if a Moron can clarify this for me I'd appreciate it.

160 I loved Ace's argument that once pot is legalized, we could redeploy the armies of police that are currently kicking down doors and jailing 17 year-old kids for smoking a doobie. THEN they can wipe out the burglary problem! WIN! FUCKING LEGAL POT WIN! Also, the anecdote about the "friend" who was a fascist drug warrior (like me) until his kid got busted for possession - that's supposed to bolster your argument? That someone with fucking zero principles is my example to follow? The ONE time I had to call my dad from jail, do you know what he said? This is verbatim. "I'm not coming to get you. You can rot there." So, whose example do I follow? What do I teach my son? "Drugs are bad, but not for you, baby boy! Daddy's got your back, no matter how piss-poor your choices are!" Fuck. THAT. That's the underlying attitude that enables the coarsening of our culture and the end of the American Golden Age. It's all decline from here.

The provisions of clause (ii) shall not apply where all persons are consenting adults who are not in a public place and who are not committing, attempting to commit, conspiring to commit, aiding, or abetting any act in furtherance of prostitution. "

is there as an enabling act for the Cotton Mather Puritan Regulators and Reform Posse to start no-knocks on bedrooms...

Am I alone in wondering how it is we are about to become a nation striving to "not punish" every possible moral choice one faces while strangling away liberty on every economic transaction one can engage in?

226 I asked her why that would be and it has something to do with neural pathways in the brain not being fully "set" until about age 21.

227 Posted by: Sven 10077 at January 10, 2014 12:20 PM (TE35l) There is an interesting dynamic happening.... and I even catch myself reacting to it... When someone pushes... and keeps pushing... eventually you must push back to even keep equilibrium... its Newton's third Law of Motion, in Societal Political Terms. When that happens, people are FORCED to choose one of those sides which are pushing. You end up with a Binary decision set, of supporting one Extreme, or the Other.... I find it affects me most on the Illegal Immigrant question.... as I live in Central California where I am literally now a Minority as a White Male... in the town I was born and raised in (where I was decidedly NOT a minority back then). I am becoming more and more 'reactionary' as people continue to push THEIR agenda to try to change someplace good... into something less....

My recommendation for anyone trying to quit smoking is to bite the bullet, leave the patches, gums,  e-cigs, and Chantix  alone, and go through 2-3 days of nicotine withdrawal.

Then spend the next few  weeks or months BREAKING THE HABIT you had of associating all the things you did in your life with your  cigarettes.

If you try to quit smoking, but are still getting nicotine, you'll still have to go through your withdrawals and cravings at some point.  If you try to have your e-cig habit replace the nicotine habit, you'll have to break the habit at some point.

Why not do both at the same time, give yourself ONE FEWER CHANCE of screwing it up and caving.

I'm referring to the US News commentary recently published that claimed the reason for Justice Sotomayers stay involving the Little Sisters of the Poor was because she is Catholic, and not because it's how she regarded the law.

Still, the  evidence is there, for anyone who wants to look at it.  Think of the brain like  Senator Stevens' innertubes superhighway.  If you  create a speedramp from your  doob/alc/whatever  intake to the brain's pleasure center.   Pretty much everything else  your brain needs to do is congested like  a cold rainy  schoolday on a bridge to Ft. Lee, NJ.

I had a girl who I asked to marry me and she turned me down breaking my heart. (Contrary to popular opinion, I do have a heart.)  Ten years go by and I was then working as a DA prosecuting domestic violence case.  She shows up after her third divorce as a victim. She was getting the shit beat out of her by the ex-con she had married.  I sent him back to prison and she wanted to talk but I kept it strictly professional. (I was married by that time.) My thought: Boy, did I dodge a bullet.

That's the logic of it, but last I checked there isn't really  a lot of  evidence it works out  that way.  One reason being, few people actually follow the directed path toward reducing their nicotine intake.

If you do, you have mini withdrawals, all along the way.  Thus, increasing the risk you'll give in to the cravings because you're having more of them, and they are lasting for a longer period of time.

Some people manage to make it work though.  I wish anyone who is trying to quit all the luck and strength they are going to be able to muster, because it is doable, but not easy.

Part of the reason it's so cold in here (it's 55 that's actual cold not girl cold) is that there's a hole in the ceiling over my desk from having to fix the burst pipe and that happens to have a small area that's open to the outside. It's only a matter of time before Outside comes to visit me. Also I want to lodge an official protest. When I busted out the alterego, I got banninated like immediately and I wasn't nearly that annoying! Also I'm peeved that I got banninated before I got to start arguing with me.

331 Men have been using marijuana in the bedroom for years to enhance their overall sexual experience, but some research shows that getting chiefed up before knocking boots could have limp consequences. While some small, independent studies have published papers on the effects of marijuana as viable treatment for men suffering from the pee-pee perils of erectile dysfunction, others have provided evidence that suggests smoking weed is not conducive to maintaining an erection. From High Times A study published in the January 2011 issue of the Sexual Health Journal indicates that marijuana contains certain molecules that have a way of targeting nerve receptors in the penis and rendering them numb, which has a uncanny way of hindering a stonerÂ’s ability to get a stiffie. Researcher and physician Rany Shamloul says that while many people have a tendency to focus on the positive aspects of sex and marijuana, there is a dark side to the drug that is not necessarily beneficial to the stoned boner.

So as we all know, Utah had a judge force same-sex marriage on them.  And the judge refused to allow a stay.  Later, Justice Sotameyer put a stay on the marriages until the judgement could be appealed, but some marriage ceremonies had already taken place by then.  Utah then directed its agencies to ignore any same-sex marriages until the appeals could be dealt with.  And now the Federal Government has apparently announced that it will honor any same-sex marriages in Utah - marriages that the state is ignoring until the legal appeals are exhausted.

This just gets more and more ridiculous...

386 Gosh there is a lot of info out there on it Marijuana users sometimes report that pot enhances their desire for sex. But a new review of research on marijuana and sexual health suggests that male smokers could be courting sexual dysfunction. Research on the topic is contradictory and few studies are high-quality, said study researcher Rany Shamloul, a physician with appointments at the University of Ottawa and Queen's University in Canada as well as the University of Cairo. But recent research – including the finding that the penis contains receptors for marijuana's active ingredient – suggests that young men may want to think about long-term effects before rolling a joint, Shamloul told LiveScience. "It's a strong message to our younger generations and younger men," Shamloul said.

Every couple of years we'd get the gypsies coming thru the little farm town I grew up in.   I was in the grocery store with my Mom when they went through it.

30-40 people walk in.... quickly stroll up and down the aisles, then exit the store, leaving the shelves pretty threadbare.

Cities of Sjlbvdnzv, Grzny to Be First Recipients

Before an emergency joint session of Congress yesterday, President Clinton announced US plans to deploy over 75,000 vowels to the war-torn region of Bosnia. The deployment, the largest of its kind in American history, will provide the region with the critically needed letters A,E,I,O,U, and Y, and is hoped to render countless Bosnian words more pronounceable.

"For six years, we have stood by while names like Ygrjvslhv and Tzlynhrand Glrm have been horribly butchered by millions around the world,"Clinton said. "Today, the United States must finally stand up and say 'Enough.' It is time the people of Bosnia finally had some vowels in their incomprehensible words. The US is proud to lead the crusade in this noble endeavor."

The deployment, dubbed Operation Vowel Storm by the State Department, is set for early next week, with the Adriatic port cities of Sjlbvdnzv and Grzny slated to be the first recipients. Two C-130 transport planes, each carrying more than 500 24-count boxes of "E's," will fly from Andrews Air Force Base across the Atlantic and airdrop the letters over the cities.

Citizens of Grzny and Sjlbvdnzv eagerly await the arrival of the vowels. "My God, I do not think we can last another day," Trszg Grzdnjkln, 44, said. "I have six children and none of them has a name that is understandable to me or to anyone else. Mr. Clinton, please send my poor, wretched family just one 'E.'Please."

Said Sjlbvdnzv resident, Grg Hmphrs, 67: "With just a few key letters, I could be George Humphries. This is my dream."

If the initial airlift is successful, Clinton said the United States will go ahead with full-scale vowel deployment, with C-130's airdropping thousands more letters over every area of Bosnia. Other nations are expected to pitch in as well, including 10,000 British "A's" and 6,500 Canadian "U's." Japan, rich in A's and O's, was asked to participate, but declined.

542 521 Push it all to single payer. You know, I thought that for a while. A long while. then I had to roll my sleeves up and come work at an exchange. I know that's the pie in the sky vision of a couple folks, but the group of policy experts that threw this one together could never in a zillion years make it work. They would have to outsource management of the "single payor" to the same commercial payors that are so oft demonized - just like they do for Medicare and Medicaid claims today. According to Occam, If that was their goal, they would have done *something* right, if for no other reason to maintain their status as "experts". They're certainly pretty much discredited with this abortion of an implementation. The website and its myriad problems was *always* a distraction. The underlying foundation of the program is what is broken and perhaps beyond salvage. That's not the kind of thing to put on the marketing brochure for "single payor" (from the same team that brought you...PP/ACA).

Once upon a time, one of the partners had to head up to Worcester, MA for depositions. She asked me to print her up directions so I called the place where it was going to be held, got the exact office location, went to mapquest and got her directions, including directions to the closest parking lot, and left them for her at the front desk as requested. She called me over in front of a bunch of people and ripped into me about how I was so incompetent that I couldn't even get her directions and on and on and on. I kept trying to interrupt to find out if the location had changed or what since I got them not half an hour before. Then it happened. I told you that I was going to Wooster! 555 Ammo for debates with idiots:

Why is the EPA a fraud of a scam of a orgy of corruption?

House Looks at 'Sue and Settle' H.R. 2279

"the Environmental Protection Agency rarely meets its date-certain responsibilities. Since 1993, for example, 98 percent of EPA regulations (196 out of 200) pursuant to three core Clean Air Act provisions were promulgated after their statutory deadlines, by an average of 2,072 days late. Alas, such dilatory execution is characteristic of the agency.

You might wonder: How could missed deadlines cause harm? The answer is a function of another unfortunate legislative innovation dating to the disco era. At the behest of environmental litigation groups, Congress during the 1970s included in many regulatory laws a provision granting the public the right to sue EPA over the non-performance of non-discretionary duties. As a result, groups like Sierra Club are empowered to sue the agency in order to compel the agency to act on a past-due responsibility."

***
Ever wonder why the enviro-nazis never have a 'Standing' problem. Wonder no more.
***
"Because EPA is out of compliance with virtually all of its deadlines, it follows that establishing any deadline through litigation determines how EPA deploys its limited resources. Of course, giving priority among regulatory initiatives is no different than effectuating policy. To this end, impossible deadlines are conducive to a legal strategy known as “sue and settle.” The process starts when an environmental litigation group sues EPA over a missed deadline. Rather than contest the suit and defend the agency’s discretion, EPA immediately enters into settlement negotiations. Due to a revolving door between green groups and the EPA, parties to these suits often used to be colleagues. "
