— CAC Welcome back again to the show that never ends, the carousel that oversells we call the primaries.
Tonight, we will focus on the results out of North Carolina.
Follow us along on our glorious, shiny AOSHQDD.COM site for the race to see who takes on Senator Kay Hagan, and right here for the latest on several interesting congressional races (below the fold).
NC-Senate:
Once a winner has been declared, name will go here:
Thom Tillis will win the primary. Question is now 40%...
Hit 40%? YES
NC-2:
Ellmers (inc) 19154--- winner
Roche 13587
94% precincts in
NC-3:
Jones (inc) 20049 <-WINNER
Griffin 17772
88% precincts in
And just for giggles, the OH-8 race. Boehner will cruise, but it will be interesting to see if there's a sizable protest vote.
OH-8:
Boehner 30874 winner
Winteregg 9926
Gurr 2389
Other 1575
57% in
If you've been following along, you might notice through other outlets and twitter that NC is doing something strange counting precincts. Seems like they are screwing up their early vote tabulations and counting the precincts as "reported", but let me give you a big example of how things are screwed up:
Mecklenburg county is the largest in the state. Yet it's showing only 15,000 votes cast if you go through the BOE website. That is atrocious turnout for a primary- far lower than anything seen in previous elections. My hunch is they are just plum screwing up. We are on top of things though, and you can trust our numbers.
Also- sucks to be the AP!- CAC

Republicans are just as bad as Democrats.
I didn't vote today. It's the first time I've sat out since I turned 18.
Immigration "reform" is the next shoe to drop. Various interest groups have made sure of that.
We're just fucked. It is no longer considered extreme that the best course of action is to arm yourself and stock up what's needed when, not if, the shitstorm comes...
Politicians have innoculated themselves from the shit-borne diseases they're imposing on the rest of us.

And for the handy-capers:
In North Carolina, Republicans are watching closely to see if Thom Tillis, the state House speaker a can capture 40% of the vote in Tuesday's GOP Senate primary.
If he does, Tillis will become the party's Senate nominee, and Washington Republicans will breathe a little easier knowing they've dodged a long and expensive runoff battle between Tillis, the consensus frontrunner, and a flame-throwing conservative rival.
He has two serious rivals for the nomination: Greg Brannon, a staunch libertarian tea party activist who wants to put U.S. currency back on the gold standard, and Mark Harris, a prominent Baptist pastor from Charlotte who spearheaded the 2012 passage of a constitutional amendment that strengthened the state's same-sex marriage ban.

Hagan fucked everyone out of their healthcare. A jury found that there was a 50.00001% chance that Brannon should have known some investment info was misleading.

Republican voters in North CarolinaÂ’s Second District will choose today between incumbent Renee Ellmers and conservative challenger/Tea Party favorite Frank Roche. Ellmers is a favorite of House GOP leader John Boehner, and she has been exposed as a vocal advocate of amnesty

What's your excuse for Tillis calling obamacare a good idea??
Hmmm, on one side we have AMNESTY and OBAMACARE on the other we have a private stock deal gone bad and apparently some property tax bullshit.
Oh, but Tillis is OH SO ELECTABLE!!!!

Jones is a septuagenarian perma-rep, he of Freedom Fries fame, who later turned hard anti-war and general pita.
Unfortunately, Griffen is tainted by Team Republican backing as their man, so it's a pick 'em.

I understand only 0.59% of the vote is in, but the bottom 3 candidates each have *exactly* 45 votes, and the next two candidates each have *exactly* 90 votes, or 2x45. That seems really fishy.

Apparently this is what Tillis said about Obamacare that got people upset:
"I think thereÂ’s a lot of things we can do if we focus on a systematic approach to eliminating the bad -- and the majority of the stuff that is in Obamacare is bad, because itÂ’s not fiscally sustainable. ItÂ’s a great idea that canÂ’t be paid for -- letÂ’s focus on the net problem versus a policy thatÂ’s creating as many problems as it fixes in terms of health care, and then itÂ’s also creating the most devastating problem of a deficit and debt that we canÂ’t afford."

In North Carolina, establishment-aligned outside groups, such as Karl RoveÂ’s American Crossroads and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, have spent more than $10 million to boost Tillis, on top of the more than $2 million his campaign has spent so far. HeÂ’s also been endorsed by former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

153...NO WAY has 1/3 of reproductive age females had an abortion... and as a rural family doc I am in a better position than most to judge.
I would think that a lot of women wouldn't admit it.
Only the leftist ones who are 'proud' of it, would admit to having one.
And women in rural areas could go to a city, and have one without their rural doctor knowing about it.
For example, I know some Catholics who go to another city for confession.
They don't want their local priest to hear them confess.
So...I dunno if that statistic is right or not.
It's something that is hard to know for sure.

187 "So...Boehner is like Romney:"
I swore off giving money to any politician in 2012, but I'm going to break that vow and give as much as I can to Boehner's Democrat opponent. That is the only way we can start mounting a real opposition to the leftist agenda.

The trouble with that strategy is twofold, actually:
1) The Dems can point to their victory and declare that "People support our Agenda!"
2) We get the Gun Control that they've been wanting all along.

Last time the GOP successfully squared that circle was with Reagan. I have a feeling it will be a while yet before it happens again.

IMHO, after tonight NC is toast. Please credit Karl Rove and the Chamber of Commerce hammering the airwaves with ads and robocalls (from the Gov and OUR RINO Senator Burr--who inserted himself into our primary via Chamber money). Money for AMNESTY
Posted by: NCwoof at May 06, 2014 04:58 PM (aUQgu)
As we all know, when it comes to amnesty, Republicans have to serve 2 masters. They have to serve us, the actual R primary voters who are opposed to it, and they have to serve the chamber of commerce crowd who bankrolls them and who just wants cheap labor.
And they have the ready-made excuse teed up to satisfy both crowds as to why they can't get amnesty passed: because no matter what compromise deal is worked out, Obama will not faithfully enforce the law. And they'd be right. So they turn to us and say "we won't pass amnesty because Obama", and they turn to their CoC bankrollers and say "sorry, but we really wish we could pass amnesty, but we don't trust Obama, but hey give us money and we will see what we can do after 2016".
That's why.
So amnesty might happen after 2016. But it won't happen before then.

Our goal should be to replace the GOP leadership with people that will use the power they have to stop the liberal progression of this country. That's a hell of a lot more important then ensuring Boehner has a job.

Also, Cuccinelli having staked out some extreme socon positions.
It's still within the realm of probability for a candidate to get elected in states such as Virginia in this day and age as an opponent of gay marriage.
However, it's not within the realm of probability when that candidate goes a couple of long steps past that point and declares homosexuality to be "objectively morally disordered".

In North Carolina, state house Speaker Thom Tillis, who is leading in a crowded field and received the endorsement of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who is pro-legalization, says he opposes amnesty and believes that Congress should secure the border before it even thinks about other chances in our immigration laws.
“We need to seal the border,” Mr. Tillis said in a debate. “We need to be clear that there is no such thing as amnesty. Amnesty has been tired it didn’t work. It created a bigger problem.”

There already IS ONE.
Are you an illegal alien in America? Do you desire a pathway to citizenship?
Return to your home country. Go to the American diplomatic facility nearest you.
Fill out the forms and pay the fees to begin the process of legally immigrating and becoming a U.S. citizen.
This procedure will work everywhere except for Iran, Cuba, or North Korea.
If you are a resident of the second or third of these countries, you're not going to be allowed to leave anyway, so the question is nullified.

Fine, then present evidence that Tillis supports "comprehensive immigration reform", or "pathway to citizenship", or that he was lying in that debate, or whatever. I have been doing some online searching and I haven't found much, except that he's been endorsed by people like Jeb Bush and Chamber of Commerce. Fine I understand that THOSE people are in favor of amnesty, but it doesn't NECESSARILY mean that Tillis ALSO supports amnesty.
If your only evidence that Tillis supports amnesty is that he was endorsed by Jeb Bush, then that is kinda weaksauce IMO.

Come November when the House takes another three seats and the Senate falls into the Republican hands with that whopping 51-49 margin, things will start looking pretty bright. Of course nothing will actually change, we'll still keep spending massive amounts of money we don't have on entitlements, bloated bureaucracy, an asinine energy program and the good lord willing a pile of illegals, but hey Boehner's worthless ass is still there so it's a fucking win.

Tillis bragged over the weekend that the US Chamber of Commerce will soon be endorsing his campaign for US Senate. The Chamber is way out front nationally in pushing for amnesty for illegal aliens. Tillis was recently endorsed by a NY-based SuperPAC that favors gay marriage and amnesty. The CEO of Caterpillar — an Illinois resident and a leading national proponent of “comprehensive immigration reform” — has given big to the Tillis campaign through his wife. Tillis also gave a speech to the NC Farm Bureau that gave the impression he was very much open to the idea of “comprehensive immigration reform.”
http://tinyurl.com/pqlabt8
Thom Tillis is endorsed by the US Chamber of Commerce, which is aggressively pushing DC lawmakers for mass amnesty for illegal immigrants and their employers along with large increases in legal immigration levels beyond the currently historic high level. Tillis aggressively defended illegal immigrants as Speaker of the NC House where he hindered E-Verify legislation that would prevent employers from hiring illegals. Tillis also actively blocked any legislation that would have cracked down on illegal immigration on the state level.

Although by 1986, Reagan should have realized that O'Neill wasn't negotiating in good faith and couldn't be trusted to follow through on promises.
Case in point: the 1982 TEFRA spending deal.
Reagan agreed to tax hikes. O'Neill agreed to domestic spending cuts. Reagan kept his promise. O'Neill reneged on his.
This is why Chris Matthews refers to that era as "When Politics Worked".
Liberals think that politics which work are politics which allow liberals to cynically roll conservatives in bogus "deals".

Well, especially when the RINO incumbent is the freaking Speaker of the House, and has an endless well of trougher money on tap.
You'll notice that Pelosi, when she was Speaker, never attracted any primary challenges. Despite her living the sort of lavish luxury one-percenter lifestyle which people in her district profess to despise.
This is because Democrats cynically realize that the power of incumbency extends to primaries.

Thank you for that, I did not realize he was wobbly on driver licenses for illegals and on E-Verify. I can understand now why some have a justifiable concern that he might be in favor of amnesty even if he publicly denies it.

Boehner issues statement after primary win.
“I am humbled to have such strong support from the people of the 8th Congressional District, and I look forward to continuing to lead the U.S. House in addressing our shared priorities of jobs and the economy. With better solutions I know we can break America free from the Obama Economy’s sluggish growth.”
And then the second man in order of Presidential succession fell to the ground and began to sob uncontrollably.

From the Tillis victory speech:
"I want to go to Washington and clean up Kay Hagan's mess," Tillis told his enthusiastic supporters in Charlotte.
"If we want to change the mess of Obamacare, we have to change our senator," he said. "If we want to end the government's overreach, we have to change our senator."
