Breaking: People Who Love To Boss Other People Around Now Want to Make it a Crime to Call Them "Bossy"
— Ace

Go figure. The "#banbossy" meme is up and running. The publicity campaign is co-sponsored by the Girl Scouts.

Now they don't want to make it an actual against-the-law crime, but they do want to stigmatize the word, such that, you know, you've committed a social crime if you call the person who's trying to control your expression "bossy." There should be consequences, you see, for saying the B-word.

The new B-word I mean. The old one is still also out, of course.

Allah notes that this is done, it is alleged, to help girls. But it's not girls who are falling behind in education, and therefore falling behind on their career track.

It's boys.

1 Not calling someone bossy doesn't mean they aren't.  And is Mike Bossy now banned too?

2 That's retarded, sir.

My son's response to the ad: I can say bossy if I want. Exactly.

Also? There's a difference between bossy and assertive. I'd much prefer girls to be assertive.

13 So your frustration at those who would dictate to you how best to run your business are simply expressing themselves, and it is YOU who should be ostracized for lashing out at them.

19 And is Mike Bossy now banned too? Somebody (Gutfeld?) mentioned him on The Five when they did this story. I was a HUGE Isles fan in those days. Trottier to Bossy...he SCORES! I wore Bossy's number when I played Junior Hockey and he was one of my heroes. I much later found out he was kind of a prick. Glad I didn't know that when I was younger.

Posted by: Citizen X at March 11, 2014 07:45 AM (7ObY1)

20 There's 'bossy', and then there is 'the Boss', and 'the Boss' comes in several flavors and packaging styles.

There's the prick who is a Son of the Boss, has no talent, skill, or experience but does have lots of undeserved self esteem.

Then there is the Boss who started from scratch, doing all the work himself, from cleaning up, to making sales calls, to making the product with his own hands and know exactly how to do it. He deserves respect; he doesn't tell you how he wants it done, he shows you how to do it.

In contrast, bossy people are poser wannabees.

And predictably, this bossy Sheryl Sandberg bitch gets it wrong.

Girls don't go out for leadership roles because they say they want to be liked.  Not because they are being called "bossy."

So of course, ban the word.

Here's something - Sheryl Sandberg has undoubtedly been called, or at least regarded as, "bossy" when she was young.  But she overcame it, somehow.  She had the persistence, the drive, the confidence, the whatever to not let it impact her and her goals.  Why not teach THAT to girls (indeed, teach it to everyone?!) instead of insulting girls everywhere by saying they can't handle being called a name...and a rather benign one at that?

It's funny...

Gen Xers will remember The Electric Company show.  There is a remake that was done about 5-10 years ago.  One of the numbers on the new show was called "Bossy R."  It's about how if you have an R in front of certain letters in a word it changes the "normal" sound of that letter.

And yes, it was produced by uber-libs.  Sung by a strong, black female who was the intended personification of the "Bossy R."   It even featured a young girl looking up to the "Bossy R."    I bet you could find it on YouTube.

I really can't keep up with these new outrages the Left keeps dreaming up.

Funny thing though...my son watched it and used it in his kindergarten class to explain why "Y" didn't always sound the same.  So the lesson stuck really well, but now Sheryl Sandberg would fuck that up  for other kids   just because she doesn't like the word "bossy."

We're in the unique position of having been born into this time period, old enough to have gained some wisdom, so we can put some learnin' on these rubes. Be who you are. Make a difference. You can't fix it all (shit, I tried, didn't work) but what you can do is grow up some little like-minded gremlins around you to do your bidding. Be a mentor. Or a slave driver, whichever suits your proclivities, but one way or the other: don't let all those years of hard earned wisdom go to waste without first annoying the shit out of some teenager with your madness.

349 Bossy and bitchy do NOT mean the same thing. I use the word bossy for both sexes but almost exclusively for children, children who act as if they are the parent/teacher to their peers, i.e., superior in status. I think we associate it with females because kids are raised (too much, IMO) by women. Kids' "bosses" are usually Mom and female teachers. Anyway, you can be bossy without being bitchy and bitchy without being bossy. Some of the bitchiest women I know have been very passive.

420 "Justice" Sotomayer from Drudge.

n Monday, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor stated that she believed that women and minorities had to crash the halls of power in order to “change the dialogue in this country.” She said that “money” was the obstacle to women and minorities having a say in government, adding, “we’re going to have to work the political system at the highest level.”

Sotomayor was speaking at the University of Washington, pushing her book, My Beloved Life. A student questioned if she was optimistic about the future of the country. She stated, “I’m very optimistic about the power of minorities to change the dialogue in this country.”

Before 1,200 students, Sotomayor also characterized the Supreme Court as “the most moral institution” in government.
