Bridget Kelly's Friends: You Know, She Always Followed the Chain of Command...
— Ace

Fired Christie aide Bridget Kelly's friends are putting out the word that she's not the type to go rogue on a bridge closing.

The NYT reports:

“She follows the chain of command,” said a friend who, like nearly everyone contacted for this story, insisted on anonymity to avoid being caught up in the continuing investigations. “She’s not a cowboy.”…

The New York Times seems, get this, a bit invested in pushing its strong suggestion that Kelly acted under orders. Here are their other proofs for the proposition that Kelly would not have acted on her own initiative:

At first glance, nothing about Ms. Kelly’s life — not her strict Catholic upbringing; her close-knit extended family; her decision to send her children to the same Catholic schools she attended in her hometown, Ramsey; or her fierce loyalty to her political mentors — would suggest anything but a dutiful, behind-the-scenes role player.

Seriously, New York Times? Your main proof that she only acts as ordered is that she's Catholic?

Oh I see. Catholics, being zealous footsoldiers of the Invisible Army of Rome, are hierarchical to a fault.

I don't consider it silly to suggest that Christie ordered this or had knowledge of it. What I object to is the ludicrous lengths to which the New York Times is willing to go to sell its progressive readers on the preferred progressive narrative about the main threat to the progressive succession in 2016.

AllahPundit observes:

It says “at first glance” because the article goes on to cite other Jersey pols who say Kelly seemed to change once she made Christie’s inner circle, becoming more “brusque” and insular and seemingly enjoying the payback she was dishing out. Peggy Noonan spitballed the same possibility in her column the other day: Give a low-ranking political hack a taste of real power and there’s no telling how they’ll behave.

Yeah, but that's normal political hacks, not, you know, Catholic Flesh-Robots of the Inexorable Papist Subversion.

And speaking of, Ed Morrissey has some thoughts on US News & World Report's argument that insane anti-Catholic bigotry is simply "fair commentary."

1. A Republican leader is actually capable of throwing an underling under the bus to limit scandal damage.
2. This will not help said Republican leader when the news media is overwhelming in favor of the Democrats.
3. Christie's presidential aspirations are being slaughtered well in advance of a decision to even commit to a campaign. Once again our candidates are being chosen for us without a vote being cast. (No, I probably wouldn't vote for him, but I'll never see his name on an Ohio ballot now.)

That's on interpretation. The truth is somewhat more evenhanded. The Church sets out goals and aims based upon the Gospel. The means of achieving those goals and aims varies based upon political systems available for delivery. That means that the Church will not endorse a party or candidate, nor do they dictate forms of government or methods of delivery, but they do judge outcomes based upon the imperatives of the Gospel.

Make no mistake, many IN the Church think that She supports leftist political systems, but that is not the case. For that matter, many leftists IN the Church think She is not far enough along the leftist spectrum, and some of them have incurred excommunication for such nonsense as " liberation theology," and other leftist tripe.

It is more complicated than your comment would suggest.

Meh, it's win/win for them.   It's still far enough out from the actual campaign that they can harp on it for a while without doing too much long term damage.   Then they can go back to pimping Christie to become the nominee   as the preferred moderate candidate, and if/when he's made the candidate they can turn around and re-savage him over this same issue.  PLUS, they'll have lots of out-of-context columns and soundbytes from other Republicans speaking out    on Christie's behalf*, which they can use to make it seem like ALL Republicans are in favor of using the power of government to seek   petty, vindictive revenge on political   enemies.

*Except that they  ACTUALLY spoke out against the MFM's lopsided coverage of    Bridgegate    compared to,   say,    Obama trying to CLOSE DOWN SCENERY.   To the MFM, this is the same as "sticking up for Christie."

They don't imply shit unless you already made up your mind.  We have no idea if we have seen all the emails and texts or only what was cherry-picked for leaks by the Democrats to make Christie look as bad as possible.   You ask me whether I believe Chris Christie, career lawyer and prosecutor, or a bunch of New Jersey Democrats?  That's not a close call.

There are few groups slimier in American life than New Jersey Democrats.  These are the people who chose Jim McGreevy and Jon Corzine as their standardbearers and had no investigation at all when it was revealed that Corzine was screwing the head of the biggest state employees union while his government was negotiating with same union.  No investigation after Corzine almost died because a state trooper was driving him 100 mph to a political fundraiser.  No idea at all that McGreevy was queer or had his boy toy on the state payroll serving as Homeland Security Director, right after 9/11, and the guy wasn't even an American citizen.

But close a couple lanes on a bridge for 4 days and SCANDAL!!11!!  Must investigate!!1!1!   Must hire special counsel!11!1!1!

What a fucking joke.

200 184: Quote from the report: "60% say their opinion of Christie has not changed in recent days, while 16% now view him less favorably and 6% more favorably." I guarantee that the 16% who view him less favorably now already disliked him to begin with. I.e. the 16% went from "I fucking hate that guy" to "I really fucking hate that guy." Major opinion shift!!! (Also, if you read the internals, these percentages are just among the 18% who followed the story. So really it's 16% of 18%, or 2.8% -- so my estimates in comment #140 were right on the money!)

#235 - I think the game has changed.  The game now is to permanently ruin the Republican brand nationally so they don't ever have to worry about losing an election.  The MSM/Democrats think they have defined Republicans nationally as far-right, racist, sexist, mean-to-the-poor, only-care-about-the-rich-white-folks assholes.  So they want GOP candidates that fit this caricature.  Christie doesn't. That's why they're trying to sink him now.  They see pretty much every other possible canddiate as someone they can easily caricature and Hillary can easily defeat.

I disagree, rockmom.  Christie jumped the shark with  his Baraka reach-around right before the last election.  He  been toast in the eyes of conservatives since then.  In other words; he did this to himself.

This little scandel has not changed any minds.

283 Posted by: rockmom I'm already seeing a huge number of 'Republicans Hate-The-Poor' Progressive ads. I also noticed lots of the same talking points showing up on nets and cable. The fact that the economy is still collapsed makes me think they have low focus group numbers on lots of issues so they are going to fling everything they can at the wall hoping for magic.

it's a Marxist.

The Pope thinks I owe to Caesar to do what should be done frugally with my own right hand, and the Church.

Thank you know.  The state is not the Church and the Church is not the state.  Kind of self-evident or end your party's fucking war on Christianity asshat.

Quite, but I think in trying to help elect the liberal squishes like Ogabe internationally they have slit their own throat.

Italy has its little Jihadis and the Church has no opinion other than "sure yeah you guys go to Heaven too."

Never heard Jihadi Jim reciprocate.
