Championship Sunday - NFC
— Dave in Texas

So Denver is goin to the show. Ok, next up, Seahawks and 49ers. I grew up hatin on San Francisco. Never had any feelings one way or the other about Seattle.

Oh wait. Yes I did.

tony-romo.jpg

Technically I suppose that's hatin on fumblefingers and not the Seahawks. ALSO I mentioned this yesterday, a pretty cool story about Seahawk fullback Derrick Coleman (h/t Slubs)

Bonus cheerleaders below the fold.

Sorry, that was mean and this is the NFC thread. I guess I'll go with the Seahawks. They've never won a Super Bowl before. Thats the only reason to pull for them. Kind of indifferent towards both teams otherwise.

I guess we didn't see it as something that NEEDED to be promoted - it wasn't done for commercial reasons, after all.

Our student body stands throughout the entire football game to signify that they ARE the 12th man.  If anyone asks, we've always told them why.  We even have a statue up commemorating the original 12th Man, E.King Gill.

It is a TRADITION at A&M; I guess we never saw the need to toot our own horn about it.  Lord knows a lot of the other colleges and universities made fun of us through the years for it.

And yet, we still stand - literally - ready to support our team.

I was at A&M before Coach Sherrill was - he appreciated the tradition of the 12th Man, which is why he  "started" the 12th Man kick-off team.

The tradition is 80 years strong.  If you don't believe me, find some old-timer with an Aggie ring and ask him  (practically no female Aggies pre-1970; it was an all-male college)

Please, don't anybody tell Kaepernick anything about North Africa. He'll convert to Islam and start bitching about being profiled at airports. Although the Bible-verse tattoo removal would be entertaining...

On second thought, go ahead. Tell him he's actually an oppressed Muslim. I'll get popcorn.

450 The pre-game show for the Broncos game walked right up to that line with the guy who has played center for both Peyton and Brady. "I am the only man who has had both Manning's and Brady's hands on my butt, but not at the same time." I did a classic cartoon double take on that one. You have to be careful with what comes out of the mouths of offensive linemen.

Posted by: filbert at January 19, 2014 04:21 PM (roTS7)

451 yep. But if you are black you can root for the black QB with pride for overcoming society's prejudices against black QBs. Or just because you share skin tone. (Or not in Kaep's case.) Actually, if you aren't black you are still supposed to root for the black QB to overcome racism against black QBs. Rooting for the white guy in the NBA is still racist if you are white, though, regardless of how few there are. Rooting for the asian guy if you are asian is cool though. Basically, rooting for someone of your own ethnic group to succeed is awesome unless you are white. Then it's the worst thing ever and makes you a nazi.

509 The sit-down between Chiarelli and Carroll started off normally enough. They talked about the team, and then about head trauma. Chiarelli, who commanded the American forces in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom II, talked about the brain injuries he had seen there. But Chiarelli's mention of Iraq sent Carroll in another direction: He wanted to know if the September 11 attacks had been planned or faked by the United States government. In particular, Carroll wanted to know whether the attack on the Pentagon had really happened. Chiarelli—who was the top-ranking Army official inside the Pentagon when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into its western side—explained that it had. He said he had lost many colleagues. But Carroll didn't stop there. He ran through the whole 9/11 truther litany. "Every 9/11 conspiracy theory you can think of, Pete asked about," said Riki Ellison, the former NFL linebacker who now runs the Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance and introduced Carroll to Chiarelli. Ellison, along with Seahawks offensive line coach Pat Ruel, was at the meeting as well. "And he didn't stop at 9/11—he had lots of questions about the role of the military I give you Pete Carroll

Posted by: Anna Puma (+SmuD) at January 19, 2014 08:53 PM (NXqPC)

So the problem is you have a bad power brick. Open it up. You might find a pico fuse on the board, and it could be blown. It will be a small cylindrical glass fuse, with metal end caps, and attached pigtail leads, soldered into the board. You should be able to get a replacement at Radio Shack, or a real electronics component supply house.

Note that if it blows fuses repeatedly, there may be an underlying problem with either the power brick itself, or the machine plugged into it.

Posted by: chemjeff at January 19, 2014 09:17 PM (9GG/0)"

Chemjeff,

BZZZT! Wrong!

Amperage can NOT be pushed. It is pulled. Current is drawn by the load.

You can jump-start a motorcycle from the battery in a diesel truck.

It will draw the current it will draw. You can NOT push AMPS.

I know not chemistry. I know electrons...

790 The thing I remember so clearly about the Theisman injury was Lawrence Taylor coming right off the pile, maniacally gesturing to the Redskin sideline trainers to get out there. Also, the Louisville college Bball player who shattered his leg in March Madness last year might have been an even more gruesome sight. No leg pads or clothing, just long basketball shorts.

792 Worst injury I ever saw on TV was Kevin Marchment of the Edmonton Oilers. A San Jose Sharks player was leaving the penalty box and at the same time Marchment caught his skate in a divot in the ice and fell. He hit the edge of the penalty box entrance. The camera was in close when his eyes fixed and dilated and he had a seizure. The camera panned back.

906 Meanwhile in Afh!tastan, 2,700 solders will have to go without breakfast. Cutbacks and drawdown. They also may lose laundry service.

They failed to sign up for 404Care. What can I say?

907 Looks like someone gave Sherman a talking to.

908 If Denver wins, there will be no rioting just a really big bongfire.

909 Rewinds the DVR: "I'm the best corner in the game! When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree that's the result you will get! Don't you ever talk about me!" Andrews: Who was talking about you? "Crabtree! Don't you open your mouth about the best!" I didn't understand his last two sentences.

915 I believe Russel is conservative/Republican, and has pissed off Libs by having a white wife. Kinda like RGIII

916 I have a rough translation: "Golly, I sure hope Mr. Crabtree stops being so mean. He said mean things that aren't true. I can play well, too."

From now on, all you honkies gotta call me General Sherman, and I'm gonna take New York!

919 So that coach for SF was at Stanford for a while, when Pete Carroll was at USC.

For some reason all my neighbors are setting off fireworks.

Bonus: my brother lives in Denver. I see a small family reunion in NY in 2 weeks.

Can we call it the Chowdah Bowl instead?

923 Peyton is going to light up Richard Sherman like a pinball machine. Should be fun.

925 If AtC is still on the thread, I have a present .... A wonderful photo of Marilyn Monroe on Santa Monica Beach by George Barris, shortly before her death in 1962. pic.twitter.com/oZs4RyMa7y

926 Nood

927 Bad decision by the QB with that throw into double coverage. Sherman should be thanking the QB for the gift instead of claiming whatever.

931 Would it be a conflict of interest for Sherman to accept endorsement deals from both Summer's Eve and Preparation-H?

What time will president Obama give us the news a black quarterback will be going to the super bowl ??

937 I was a Bad Person on the nood and my initial comment went away.

I'm a Bad Person.

Bad.

I'm bad.

(It was in retrospect a comment that should have gone away.)

So.  Bad.

"Where are the white women at?"

Posted by: filbert at January 19, 2014 06:14 PM (roTS7)

938 Oh, suuuure. Now CAC puts up the OT thread to make me look bad after his time travel fiasco!

939 Excuse me while I whip this out, filbert.

940 Oh, yeah, Russell is Christian and a very confident, yet humble man. Drives the libs cuh-raa-zee.

Posted by: dwagyak at January 19, 2014 06:16 PM (E6k2U)

941 Obviously, Sherman had time for a couple of quick bong hits before this latest face time.

Probably more confusing than conflicting.

945 I think Seattle quarterback should thank president Obama for making this opportunity to go to the super bowl. Very rude of him for not doing this.

948 1 And once again belicheck can't get a ring without cheating.

Posted by: Buzzion at January 19, 2014 06:23 PM (LI48c)

Whatever. Without "cheating," his team was more successful this year than 28+ other NFL teams. As it was last year and the year before, too.

BTW, this is the first time Denver is back in the Super Bowl since they cheated the salary cap to win two Super Bowls in the late '90s.
