Democratic Congressional Candidate: It's Very Exciting That Obamacare Gives People More Freedom and More Choice to Not Work
— Ace

Via JammieWF, the Free Beacon picked up this story from the Tampa Bay Something Something Newspaper.

The candidate is Alex Sink, a Congressional candidate for Florida's 13th District. CAC mentioned her in the podcast, but I think I was putting up that Temporary ONT when he was talking about her.

“We had this CBO report that predicted that the workforce would shrink as a result of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) as people chose to cut back on their working hours so they qualify for healthcare assistance. What was your reaction to this? Is that a devastating effect of Obamacare?” the interviewer asked her.

Sink cheerily responded: “Oh absolutely not…Actually it’s kind of an exciting prospect.”

It sure is. It sure is.

Do the voters agree this is all very exciting?

I do not understand todays "discourse" from the left.

Used to be .... a debate on the issues was point-counterpoint.  You made you points back and forth on an issue.

But today..... every "point" has to be dismissed.  No point can be made by the right.   The left will go to ridiculous lengths to dismiss an argument.

"The ACA will cost jobs"

Instead of rebutting that with "but in the long run.... XYZ will happen" or "but in exchange for a few jobs in X sector,  Y sector will flourish"  they trot out some imbecilitic "Well...... people losing their jobs is a GOOD thing".

They debate like five year olds.     **facepalm**

When this happens, repeat this: "The government has already been weaponized, for the exclusive use of the party in power. It no longer exists to serve the people, but to serve the whims of power brokers. It simply cannot be trusted with the biggest weapon of them all."

It's a thin hope, but the only argument that stands a chance of stopping it.

“Our people look for a cause to believe in,” Gov. Ronald Reagan told a crowd of disillusioned conservatives gathered in Washington in March 1975 — 39 years ago next month. “Is it a third party we need, or is it a new and revitalized second party, raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people?”

(h/t Daily Caller)

There's a reason why Reagan won landslides and 3 terms.  That's right I said 3, GHWB was just his fucking stand in.

STAND AND FIGHT!!!  We must focus on Obamacare.  The real fight will be the debt ceiling.  We'll do everything we can to stop obamacare.

77 And this is why we're screwed.

It reminds me of the way that some people are (wrongly, IMO) disapproving of Disney or other children's movies, because they portray evil characters. But showing evil to kids isn't the problem. There is evil in this world. They don't need to see it in all its deepest forms, but there is no reason to sugarcoat the world for eight year-old kids. There is good and there is evil; right and wrong.Showing evil for what it is isn't bad, it is instructive. The problem  comes when movies portray evil AS good, and right AS wrong. I don't think Disney movies do this, but this kind of thing would be a route to a morally rudderless society.

So where was I? Oh right, the exciting prospects of Obamacare liberating people from the need to work for their own healthcare. We're really screwed when the destructive, rather than being exposed for what it is, is lauded as progress. When a problem is promoted and accepted as an ideal, it's just about all over.

89 I have an idea that for a perpetual motion machine that will need no conventional source of energy, will not cause any pollution and is easily made from materials found in most kitchens. It will literally change the fate of the planet and enrich the lives of all mankind. If only I wasn't tied to this hateful job because of my insurance.

I'm in the Tampa Bay Area- and the most depressing thing is, she's up in most of the local polls.  This is a woman who has been a huge proponent of Obamacare and the guy she's running against (David Jolly) is decent, smart and well funded.  And somehow, she's leading in the polls.  A large number of Floridians are apparently morons.  I Know that because apparently Charlie Crist (the former "conservatives conservative" who now works for the biggest whore trial lawyer in the state) is also up in the polls for governor.  Its amazing to me liberals would support a guy like this but then again, they're not rational people in the first place.

136 My income was very low in my first years out of college. Had there been an Obamacare, I certainly would have qualified for substantial subsidies. But I had big dreams and plans for myself and knew that the low income was temporary. I'd have been pissed as hell if my need for Obamacare forced me to quit or keep myself underemployed, thus derailing my future. This isn't about ending "job lock", it's about trapping people in a permanent underclass that cannot seek gainful employment and improve their lives because they're stuck on the government teat.

The EU is looking for ways to wean the 28-country bloc from its heavy reliance on bank financing and find other means of funding small companies, infrastructure projects and other investment. "The economic and financial crisis has impaired the ability of the financial sector to channel funds to the real economy, in particular long-term investment," said the document, seen by Reuters. The Commission will ask the bloc's insurance watchdog in the second half of this year for advice on a possible draft law "to mobilize more personal pension savings for long-term financing", the document said. I'm seriously wondering how much this program is going to cost. They can't have considered that 83% of the people were going to be getting subsidies. You can't subsidize this many people for long without going tits up.

174 Are there really that many people who stay in a job SOLELY for health insurance? I can see some, but 2.5 million? I just don't believe that. No, there aren't. I'm actually pretty sure the correct number of people who stay in a specific job (note the qualifier normally left unspoken, which I have specified) SOLELY because of the Health Insurance it provides approaches zero. People might stay at a specific job because the health insurance it provides is enough better than what some other opportunity would provide- but that's part of a complex "cost/benefit analysis" we all do normally. What the Democrats are *actually* saying is that there are people who keep jobs at all because they want employer-provided health insurance. If they had their choice they just wouldn't work. Or (in the Democrats' view) would "work" at being a mime, or "an artist," or whatever.

Posted by: Chairman LMAO at February 14, 2014 01:55 PM (9eDbm)

_________

You don't get how this works. People who reduce their hours or stop working completely won't pay anything for health care. Someone reducing hours to only make $20K a year will get 100% free health care. That same person making $30K a year would have to pay $10K a year for that same health care. So monetarily speaking they're in the same situation, but with only working part time instead of full time.
