Democratic Mayor of Charlotte, NC, Arrested in FBI Sting For Taking $48,000 in Bribes in What Sources Call "A Real Douchebag Scheme"

No, a real douchebag scheme.

Patrick Cannon, the Mayor of Charlotte, NC was arrested today and accused of accepting nearly $48,000 in bribes during a four-year-long FBI sting. A good portion of those bribes came in the form of a quote-unquote investment into one of CannonÂ’s business ventures: a Â“feminine hygiene productÂ” called Â“HersÂ”.

The precise type of feminine hygiene product is currently unknown, but analysts theorize it could be a douchebag.

Cannon, a longtime radio show host and the founder of E-Z parking, a parking management company, was elected mayor in November...

Why are parking businesses always corrupt?

Oh, note that this guy has only been on the job six months. The road to corruption is a quicker one for fast learners.

Before becoming mayor, in 2013 and 2014, he is alleged to have taken $20,000 in bribes for providing "access" to city officials in zoning matters. He was a City Councilman at the time.

He procured $12,500 in bribes -- allegedly -- to help a nightclub get its permits. In exchange for his help with the permit, the undercover agent agreed to pay him $12,500 so that Cannon could develop "Hers," his feminine hygiene product.

Cannon disputes that, of course, and in fairness, I have to point out that AP says that in a "later" conversation with the undercover agent, Cannon attempted to clarify that "help with the nightclub permits" and "$12,500 investment in 'Hers'" were two entirely unrelated transactions, completely and in all ways unconnected to one another, because he didn't want people thinking he was corrupt or anything.

More: Buzzfeed has excerpts from the ~~indictment~~ affidavit of one of the FBI agents involved in the sting. In one exchange, Cannon actually offers to return the money to the undercover agent, apparently becoming worried that there was "linkage" between help-for-the-nightclub and the "twelve-five." But Cannon doesn't return the money, and, per Buzzfeed, never brings up the possibility of returning it again.

1)Look at whom all these people support for the 2016 nominee, or whom they're likely to support
2)It's clearing away the scandals before it gets too close to November
3)The FBI and other government officials are sick and tired of the crap that they're taking for this administration, and this is their response.

Because all three of those people are too far outside of the orbit of the Chicago machine. And if there's one thing at which the Chicago machine excels, it's the steady maintenance of power by itself over multiple election cycles with differing candidates. Individuals come and go from office; the machine remains in place.

So who would Obama be grooming as a successor, then? Who is distant enough from D.C. not to be tarred by anti-incumbent sentiment, but who is in good with the Chi-town crowd, and who is, best of all, black? Because it would elevate Obama to even higher status than ever in the AfAm community if he could engineer a black successor in office. Don't think that he doesn't think about this. So who then?

My money is and has been on Deval Patrick.

This is the first time in the history of modern American combat aircraft procurement that a program was allowed to run this far without having a fallback plan to procure something different if the new aircraft failed. Brilliant program management there.

There was a window in which if the F-35 had been cancelled, at least the USAF could have gone back to buying the older and far more capable F-22. But the F-22 line has been shut and dismantled, a lot of the key subsystem vendors have exited the business, and it would take a decade to restart now, at huge cost.

Plus, the F-22 won't work for the needs of the Navy. It can't be navalized. And surely not for the Marines.

I would love to blame this huge dangerous mess on the Obama crew alone, but major blame also has to attach to George W. Bush, who ignored the extremely obvious developing problems in the F-35 program. (Failure to hit key performance parameters, costs out of control, et cetera.) And who appointed the idiot SECDEF, Bob Gates, who killed the F-22 before the F-35 had proven out.

And as luck would have it, there's a special type of plane that is extremely good at staging out of frontline bases with vertical takeoff to provide close air support.

Those types of planes are called "helicopters".

233 The F-35 JSF program just did in a bigger louder more expensive fashion what the F-18 Mafia did to Naval Aviation. Killed anything that was a threat to the program and absorbed their funding.

241 @228 - the issue is this: Everyone WANTS two engines. But it means a bigger, more complex, more expensive aircraft. When you're talking about CVNs the Navy wants a plane that a pilot can slam onto the deck with 100% certainty it's gonna catch the wire and not break anything, and that airframe will take that treatment for twenty years. And the more things a particular plane can do, the fewer types you have to try to find room for, which means you've got more you can send out for a given mission. The Marines used to get whatever the Navy didn't want anymore. The Harrier was a step away from that with V/STOL 'ground loiter' and forward deployment like a fast helo with a big payload, but with one engine and not a lot of protection it's a huge compromise. The USAF wants the ferry range of a 787 and the ability to carry big loads out of two-mile runways. They like to go fast but that only works when you're up high, if you're throwing bombs at the ground speed just means you've missed the target and need to try again, which doesn't make anyone very happy.

He gets elected, because DOJ which has been investigating him since 2010, keeps quiet. They have him on tape, he is a dirt bag. That is all, well except his pay for plan is still working if you have a Black guy axing, cause every fucking city employee is Black.
