— DrewM As the saying goes, when people are free to choose, they choose freedom and Wisconsin union workers are choosing to free themselves from their unions.
The latest tax documents available show combined income of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) dropped 45 percent in 2012 — the first full year of the law, according to The Capital Times. In 2011, the four councils that make up the state organization reported a combined income of $14.9 million. In 2012 that dropped to $8.3 million. Dues revenue dropped 40 percent to $7.1 million.
Walker and supporters of the law said it was a way to help local governments reduce the costs of employee benefits, but the legislation also included measures aimed at financially weakening unions by ending automatic dues deductions.
It's funny but liberals have never explained why the state should have been in the business of collecting dues for unions that the unions then used to extract more money from the state. Funny that.
I'll leave the Walker pimping to CAC (I like Walker though his coyness about amnesty bothers me. However if Boehner gets his way, it might be moot by then) but that kind of reform is going to very popular with conservative primary voters next year.
The big problem Walker has is that while most of the top tier candidates have already begun their campaigns to one degree or another, Walker has a tough reelection battle this year. So while people like Chris Christie are campaigning across the country and in early primary states for Senate and House candidates (while collecting IOU's, meeting donors and building statewide networks), Walker is going to spend this year campaigning in Oshkosh and Green Bay.
On the upside, he'll have some impressive accomplishments to tout should he run.
Still, the way the modern presidential campaigns are structured, missing out on this year is going to be a big disadvantage for Walker.

So missing out on publicity like Christie's is a bad thing?
I'm OK with candidates laying low right now.

Outside of the big three school districts ACT 10 has worked pretty well too for the teaching unions member rate. Where ACT really hit the teachers was the WEAC health plans. Basically the unions had their own health insurance company and were ass fucking us taxpayers every year for the benefits.
Massive amounts of savings for tax payers and the teacher unions lost their cash cow.

I agree. It's a two-edged sword, but I see fatigue as a major issue. On one hand, Hillary will be known by everyone. At the same time, there is a real issue with Clinton fatigue even now. A few more years of HILLARY!!! will only make that worse.
If (and I know that this is the idiot party) the Republicans can have a new, inspring fresh face to vote for in 2016, the fact that some voters won't know much about him will be more than offset by the horde of voters who will be tired of living in the albatross Obamacare economy and want a Republican alternative who isn't too scary. Walker seems to fit this bill.
Sure, he needs to win re-election. But if he does, he can start rebuilding the national contacts he developed during the recall race (that was a national campaign, if you remember) and still compete in 2016.

We also have to accept that there is *no* perfect candidate. Everybody's going to have some area where they are a bit of a squish- immigration, taxation, social issues (either too socon or too liberal), federal involvement in education/drug war/healthcare, etc. The question is, how bad is the candidate's weak area? Are we talking John McCain? Mitt on government health insurance? Fat man on almost everything but unions? That is what we have to be willing to have a serious discussion about.

#53- No way it can be Faucahontas. I mean, she may have been able to hoodwink Massachusetts voters and not respond or open records as to when she first starting moving up the educational world by claiming minority status, but if a presidential campaign started, she would be forced to open up about such discrepancies by the MS- oh, shit.
Nevermind.
(Actually, if she were the nominee, the stupid party would need to hammer on this theme again and again. Of course, since it's the stupid party, they won't. The Koch brothers of the world, on the other hand, might be willing to do so.)

Sounds like a case of 'what have you done for me lately?' has caught up to the unions. When membership is required and dues are automatically extracted the union leadership becomes more concerned with themselves than with representing the membership. Now with those crutches removed the membership is actually letting the union leadership know what they think about them.
Sort fo what happens to any monopoly when a little choice is let into the closed system.

Not all that much, to be honest. I think they have supported some of the TEA party candidates before they were favored. They have funded some of the independent groups that have aired ads. I threw in their name mostly because they are the left's boogieman right now, and to me they just represent any third party that *might* be smart enough to hit on a theme that the TOP.MEN. at RNC HQ either can't think of or are too afraid to implement.

We need to work on our messaging with union members.
We are fighting FOR you, rank and file. Your bosses are the POS. I would guess at least 50% rank and file hate the leaders.
Look guys, if we don't get our fiscal house in order you are going to end up like Detroit city workers, pensions/benefits GONE.
Drive home the message that we are trying to honor existing contracts and get the fiscal house in order so that all those rank and file who worked decades to get those benefits are assured that the state will be able to pay them. And further we want to give rank and file more freedom with their own money. How is it bad to give workers more of their own fucking money back??
And change the system for new hires. It's as simple as that. That is a huge winning message. Union bosses versus rank and file. Every time.

What's new about that? It's always been true. (Not union MEMBERS, necessarily, but yeah, the trade union movement has long been shoulder-to-shoulder with the other leftist statists.

Depends on the distance from the TV stations and any obstructions. Generally if you are within 35 miles "crow-flight" from the station's transmitter you can get a good signal with an indoor antenna.
I am getting 9 stations on my TV upstairs with nothing more than a piece of wire. Not so good downstairs though due to being at the bottom of a hill.
Digital TV is much more sensitive to line of sight than the old analog.

Not to mention Bull Connor (former DNC member), Jefferson Davis, George Wallace, Jim Jones, or John Wayne Gacy (former Chicago Democratic precinct captain). If they want to start flinging mud, our bucket is much, much bigger than theirs.

This happened in Indiana after Mitch Daniels did it back in 05 via EO ( first day in office) nobody made a big deal about it then though, unlike Scott Walker who faced a recall. ( Indiana doesn't have recall, but neither did the Unions protest all that much)
