Elizabeth Warren's New Book Rehashes Her Past Vague Claims About Her Alleged Native American Ethnicity, But Fails to Address Any of the Important Questions Asked of Her
— Ace

Good recap at US News & World report.

First, what’s perhaps most notable about Warren’s book is that she even includes a section called “Native American,” in which she reportedly writes, “Everyone on our mother’s side — aunts, uncles, and grandparents — talked openly about their Native American ancestry. My brothers and I grew up on stories about our grandfather building one-room schoolhouses and about our grandparents’ courtship and their early lives together in Indian Territory.”

This is ironic because, until the Boston Herald first broke the news in April 2012 that Harvard Law School had repeatedly promoted Warren as a Native American faculty member, Warren never once mentioned these stories of her upbringing in a single press interview, speech, class lecture or testimony at any point, ever, in her decades-long career. What's more, Warren was not listed as a minority on her transcript from George Washington University where she began her undergraduate education, nor did she list herself as a minority when applying to Rutgers University Law School in 1973.

In fact, it was not until she was in her 30s and focused on climbing the highly competitive ladder of law school academia that Warren apparently rediscovered her Native American heritage. ItÂ’s important to note that entrance and advancement in the law school profession is governed by the Association of American Law Schools, which requires registrants interested in teaching at law schools to fill out a questionnaire detailing their education, experience, bar passage and, yes, ethnicity. This information is then disseminated to law schools around the country that, as Warren surely knew, are always on the lookout to add to the diversity of their faculty.

A copy of Warren's questionnaire currently resides in the Association of American Law Schools archives at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. However, only Warren herself has the authority to release the complete copy of her questionnaire and to date, she has refused to do so.

Her opposition to such transparency can perhaps be understood in the documented fact that in the years thereafter, starting in 1986, Warren began self-reporting herself as a "minority professor" in the Association of American Law Schools staff directory that lists all law school professors around the country. As the former association chairman told the Boston Herald, the directory once served a tip sheet for law school administrators, in the pre-Internet days, who were looking to identify and recruit minority professors.

Remarkably, Warren's explanation to the Boston Herald was that she listed herself as a minority in the hopes that she would be invited to a luncheon so she could meet "people who are like I am" and she stopped checking the box when that didn't happen. Perhaps it "didn't happen" because at no point, at any of the schools she attended or worked at, is there any evidence that Warren ever joined any Native American organizations on campus or in any way interacted with anyone in the Native American community.

The left's claims on this are, as usual, atrocious. They defend Warren (to the extent they'll even address the issue) by claiming that Warren honestly thought she was 1/64th (or was it 1/128th?) Cherokee.

But our "diversity" regime was not set up simply to act as a racial spoils system. The idea behind it is that minorities had themselves likely been harmed in some way by their race in the past -- whether victims of actual racism or not having many advantages in life due to, for example, one's great-great-grandparents being slaves and therefore having started out with almost no money whatsoever and sharply limited earning capacity.

For Elizabeth Warren to Play Indian when it suited her purposes is disgustingly self-serving. She is obviously one of two things:

100% White,

or, by her claim, merely 99.2% white.

Either way, she is White, and her parents were White, and her grandparents were White, and even her great-grandparents were White. I think you have to go to her great-great-grandparents before you find the one (1!) nonwhite contributor to her racial legacy.

In no way has Elizabeth Warren ever suffered the sting of racial animus from White People due her race (which is White), nor have missed out on job opportunities due to her race (which is White), nor does her family start out in a Racial Ditch due to discrimination against its race (which, in case I didn't mention this, is White).

Elizabeth Warren took advantage of racial set-aside employment opportunities for disadvantaged minorities despite never for one second in her entire life being disadvantaged by her race (which is White).

Has she ever been a victim of racism? How would a racist even know to discriminate against her, unless she busted out her "family lore" and showed pictures of her grandmother with her "high cheekbones" and convinced the skeptical racist that she was anything other than a White Person In Good Standing?

Her one "story" (I love how all of this is about "stories" and "feelings" and "narratives") of discrimination is her claim that her great-great-great-grandparents had to elope due to the extreme racial hostility her distant ancestor once allegedly experienced.

And yet those same great-great-great-grandparents had their wedding party right in their home town.

I guess somehow the town got over its extreme hatred of mixed Indian marriages in the few hours between the ceremony and the party.

She could disprove that she took advantages of programs designed to help minorities who are identifiable as such -- you know, people you could actually discriminate against based on appearance because they're, unlike Elizabeth Warren, not Completely, Blindingly, Albino's-Ass-in-Winter White -- but of course she refuses to release her "personal records."

No, she won't release the facts to you.

But she will keep offering up her "stories."

I fact, looking at her family tree, there was inter marriage all the way back to the revolutionary war now, this was in the upper Midwest, and not in Oklahoma but it does not make me in any way native American furthermore, the department of the interior, and the tribes themselves, kept very good rolls of tribal membership those tribal and department of the interior tribal rolls existed far before these western states were states and were only territories if she were ever native American, she would show up on them. If not her, certainly her native American grandparent this would all very very very easy to prove or disprove not to mention DNA she is the example of the worst gaming of the current diversity schemes what discrimination did she ever endure that it must be alleviated by a preference? she is, at best, standing on the backs of actual native American applicants she disgusts me

41 Yes. And the idea that this woman is a legitimate presidential contender is unbelievably laughable. She flat out acknowledged after the race against Scott Brown that her best strategy was to not speak. She joked at the press conference the week after the election that she forgot the campaign was over, so now she could talk. That is how brazenly incompetent she is. In a state that wants nothing more than to vote for Democrats, she was only marginally better than Martha Coakley as a candidate - if that. In Liberal Massachusetts, Warren underperformed the Obama election numbers by 15%. Obama beat Romney 61-38, but Warren could only beat Brown by 8. Again, the idea that his person is a national contender is ridiculous on its face. It is amazing that people on the left continue to push this idea. I don't know if they're scared of Hillary and the backlash they could face with her as the nominee, but I cannot possibly imagine Elizabeth Warren could even touch Clinton's numbers in a national election.

We hand out goodies and prestige and jobs and precious spots in elite universities if you are one of the Special People, who are Permanently Victimized. The Permanent Special Victimhood is burned into your ancestor's DNA and passed on down the generations for hundreds and hundreds of years. 89 Like many here, I am between two and three times as "native" as Warren is. My mother could have been enrolled as a tribe member but she was, her words, "too proud." I check the box every time it looks like I can fuck up somebody's statistics, but the idea that I could play my great-great-grandmother's tribal identity into grad school funding, it never crossed my mind. And I'm three or more years younger than Warren, showing what an innovative thinker she really was in 1973.

I was accepted at a Harvard graduate school (not her major though), but my white "ancestors" were unwilling to undertake the risk of backing me or co-signing. Loans were different then, as, I guess, were free rides. I'm not overly bitter, not until I have to think of her as a member of the ruling elite. Then my Injun temper gets up some.

111 It's not clear if the Diversity Nazis actually handout the Free Shit for other or mixed race box checkers. We know they hand out the Free Shit for black, hispanic, and Native America box checkers. Sometimes they hand it out for asian box checkers, but often not. For college admissions, whatever you do, don't check "asian". That adds 100-200 pts on the SAT you need to get. "Hispanic" or "latino" is the ideal box to check since there's no way you can be called on it. You can be pure blood Spaniard and get Affirmative Action. You can be pure blood German, descended from Nazis who fled to Uruguay and get Affirmative Action. With Amerindian you run the risk of getting called out because the tribes actually keep records cause they don't want to split the Fed money they get.

143 In no way has Elizabeth Warren ever suffered the sting of racial animus from White People due her race (which is White), nor have missed out on job opportunities due to her race (which is White), nor does her family start out in a Racial Ditch due to discrimination against its race (which, in case I didn't mention this, is White).

Ummm. Affirmative Action. Of course, she will not make that argument, but the whole reason it was advantageous to her to claim to be "Native American" is that universities were (and are) discriminating against Whites in order to hire minorities. Asians might get all the press lately, but Whites are very much discriminated against in both education and hiring.

Posted by: thunderb at April 23, 2014 05:06 PM (zOTsN)

283 95%+ of Amerindian deaths were due to disease. Disease brought over unwittingly by the Conquistadors from Spain and Portugal. Germ theory had yet to be discovered. Most Amerindians died without ever meeting a hispanic -- I mean white man. When British colonists arrived over a hundred years later, North America had already been depopulated by disease. It was a great historical tragedy. It was not a Genocide. Genocide, like homicide, requires intent. If I hate you and accidentally give you a cold and you get pneumonia and die, I haven't committed a homicide. There was no Genocide of the Native Americans. There was a Great Die-off. A historical tragedy that was sadly inevitable due to the lack of resistance to euroasian diseases.

292 Let me be more precise. Most Amerindians that died in the years after the Conquistadors arrived died from starvation. But the starvation was caused by the rampant disease that prevented them from planting and harvesting. Especially in North America. They couldn't survive winter. Imagine everyone getting the flu, colds, measles, mumps, smallpox, etc, etc. Wave after wave. Disease directly killed huge #s, but starvation killed the most. They were large agricultural societies. Without the manpower they couldn't farm.

295 One interesting thing about the Lenni Lenape is that early descriptions and illustrations portrayed them as being fairly light-skinned. I don't know whether that is the case for other Northeastern Indians, but there is growing suspicion that some Ice Age Europeans migrated to North America by following the edge of the ice sheet across the North Atlantic while hunting seals.

I know, right?

My ancestors come from Northern England.  Not only were they de facto enslaved (i.e., serfs) for, oh, a couple of thousand years, their homeland was overrun by successive waves of invaders -- Scots, Picts, Romans, Saxons, Vikings and Normans.

I'm the genetic product of 2,000 years of conquest.

Not to mention the whole "part Neanderthal" thing I've been hearing about lately.  That cross-breeding didn't occur all nice and peaceful-like, I don't think.

Carr has even offered to pay the cost of such tests. (Which are dirt cheap and would have been easily afforded by someone who had been pulling down $350,000.00 a year at Harvard Law.)

Warren has nevertheless not consented to undergo such a test.

Some in the SW were farmers but most NA were hunter gatherers.

Sure they may have cultivated a few patches of this or that here or there but they still led a nomadic way of life within a defined territory they claimed for their own and fought over with other tribes.

The idea of owning land was foreign to them and they laughed at the white man wanting to purchase land.

When ever they sold land to the white man, they laughed because they knew they didn't own it so they were cheating the white man.

They stopped laughing when the white man put up fences and started shooting anyone who trespassed.

The clash between the European settlers and the Indians was as much about perceptual differences as about territory and weaponry.

That the Europeans had the better tech and the numbers made the difference. That the Indians fought as individuals or raids and not groups/units and a disciplined action didn't help any.

Once the land was fenced and the herds were reduced the Indians didn't know what to do with themselves. Many refused to adopt white man ways and died in poverty. Many tribes (Hopi, Navajo ) adapted and are doing quite well comparatively.

327 It's also why the Conquistadors had crazy stories about dozens of men defeating thousands in battle. How could that possibly be? Well when the thousands are all crapping themselves and dying from the onslaught of disease it's kinda hard to fight back. The depopulation of the Americas from disease is one of the all time great historical tragedies -- which is incorrectly and maliciously labeled a Genocide. The Nazis really did try to kill all the Jews. The Spanish Conquistadors killed off most of the North American population without being aware they existed. Disease travelled faster than the white man did.

Here's my problem ... ... although I'm Irish-American (of the Penile Pursuasion), literally the Whitest of Races, I'm also genuinely Irish-American. And that means I'm not pure-bred. Let's face it - the Irish didn't discriminate back in the day, especially after a drink or six, also known as All the Damned Time. Thusly - I've got a fair share of Native, probably a tinge of Slave, and who knows what else going on. And that makes the White Guy Card a bit harder to play - especially up North.

359 I swear to God, if this asshole gets anywhere near a nomination for President I will make it my personal mission to derail it. She is the biggest phony I have seen in politics in my lifetime, and that is saying something. Her "scholarship" on bankruptcy that first got her noticed was fraudulent, her faculty positions at Penn and Harvard were obtained under false pretenses, she is a greedy social climber masquerading as some populist heroine, and even some of her more colorful sayings are completely ripped off from others who said them first. There is nothing original, or intelligent, or remarkable, about her except for her capacity to fool millions of allegedly intelligent people into believing she is special. She is an even bigger con than Barack Obama, if that is possible.

361 The clash between the European settlers and the Indians was as much about perceptual differences as about territory and weaponry. Posted by: Bitter Clinger and All That (Waiting For SMODOT) at April 23, 2014 09:17 PM (JS0vr) The American Indian has, in my opinion, the greatest view on life. Respect everything. Be thankful for everything. It's a culture that is rich and loving. They didn't see the europeans coming. Not because they were stupid but because that type of greed and hubris never occurred to them. It just didn't make sense. Here's a quick example: Nowdays, when a kid goes off on his first hunt and drops a buck, he grabs the antlers and poses for a photo. To me, that's repulsive and vile. You just took a life, and evidently you think that's cool. It's fucking not cool. You're an asshole. Not because you took the life but because you revile in the act. Ignorant and selfish. I can hunt, if I need to, but fuck me if I'll ever take a moment of joy in taking a life. And the American Indian understands this.

Spong doesn't believe in a literal resurrection, doesn't really accept any authority of the Bible, thinks Jesus didn't perform any miracles reagardsthe atonement as "divine child abuse" and might as well be a Unitarian for any value he places on the historic creeds. Highly so.

That's why, inter alia, the cinematic depiction of slavers in Africa as shown by the hugely influential 1970s _Roots_ TV series is total bullshit.

Slavers burst into a peaceful African village and drag people away.

The slavers are, as depicted by the series, white men.

In reality? The slavers would have been African black men, who would take captives from other tribes to sell to whites on the coast, because whites who valued their lives in that premedical era would not enter the African interior.

Posted by: yankeefifth at April 23, 2014 09:20 PM (rDidD)

++++

You have to find someone to run the test for you.
From http://tinyurl.com/mashd7b

By 2012, 11 states had some form of comprehensive statute requiring consent for genetic testing, 15 states and the District of Columbia had no laws on DNA collection or disclosure at all, and most of the remaining states only limited DNA testing in certain contexts, such as insurance or employment.3

So, for the most part, you’re not committing a crime if you manage to snag a DNA sample without somebody’s consent. Getting it tested by a genetic genealogy company, on the other hand… well, you’d certainly be committing a fraud if you tried. All four places where I’ve currently tested — 23andMe, AncestryDNA, Family Tree DNA and National Geographic’s Geno 2.0 project — require that the sample be submitted by the person whose sample it is or by someone with the legal authority to consent for that person (such as a parent or guardian on behalf of a child).

422 Yep, the white slavetraders stayed on the boat. The Spanish and Port Conquistadors only came to Africa and outbid the Arabs. The slave trade was pre-existing. The New World jacked up the prices though and the dominant tribes in West Africa started grabbing all the weaker tribes up and selling them. It was also used as a policing mechanism. Penalty for crimes. As the slave trade grew in the Americas the ruling tribes expanded the # of crimes where slavery was the punishment massively.

The actual slavers were (usually) the kings of the tribes. they either would sell off some of their population, (enemies and what not) or they would seize them during a raid or war with another tribe.

Then the Portuguese showed up and bought a couple. Cheap.

Europe was still depopulated from the plagues and labor was short.

For some salt and some beads you could buy a slave. The equivalent of a 4 cylinder engine these days in work output (accumulative not on tap).

These slaves also were kept on the coast in large huts so all the slave ship captains had to do was contract with the slaver and load 'em up. Sometimes the captains would try to bypass the slavers and sometimes this worked and other times they got eaten (by what or who ever).

This went on until white Christians decided that this was wrong.

Meanwhile the trade continues TO THIS DAY.

440 Sure take the conquering of Gaul and Germany and then 500 years later compare it as if the Empire was still the same. Plus the reason the Visigoths conquered Rome is because they were trained by Rome. They were their Irregulars for centuries. Then when the Empire, weakened by wars and immigration, began to collapse, it was easy pickens for a disciplined force. Try again. It was intended as a goof, not a serious argument. If you do want a serious conversation, though, I have to point out that when Ceasar invaded Gaul, he was intervening in a Gallic Civil War, and never actually faced anything like a first-rate Gallic army. The Gauls were almost as advanced as the Romans were: quasi-republic/elective government, a developing town culture, coinage, iron-working technology better than the Romans, and even the beginnings of a truly professional army, IIRC. I can't remember how many Gauls were fighting alongside Ceasar, but he had plenty of logistical and political support from the locals and was never fighting anything more than a small part of Gaul at any given time. It is also worth mentioning that both Caesar and Tacitus mention the Germans fighting in formation, BTW.

Posted by: grammie winger at April 23, 2014 09:32 PM (oMKp3) ---------------------- They are accountable to the Holy Zeitgeist. They are VERY disciplined, as any parish trying to buck the heretical trend knows. About the only thing a traditional parish can do to get around the hierarchy is to put themselves under the control of an African or S American bishop. Thus you may see an Episcopal church in Backwater, VA answering to the Bishop of Rwanda --- with a priest from Uruguay! But it's all very sad.

446 It just really bugs me that the World's Greatest Crime -- the Genocide of the American Indian -- didn't really happen. It's one of the World's Greatest Tragedies. The deaths happened. But genocide requires intent. The Nazis didn't just say mean things about the Jews, kill some, and accidentally give the rest a fatal disease. They systematically tried to kill them all. Soviets and Chicoms really did purposefully starve millions to death. It's an abuse of language and history to call what befell the Amerindian tribes a genocide.

Well, I figured it was but still.

As far as discipline goes, the Germans may have had formations but they still had the "Warrior" mentality and after the first charge or sally, it was every man for themselves. Except maybe cavalry.

And who's to say whether the Germans were just mirroring what they say the Romans doing. I know that the Germans got their ass handed to them a few times and the Romans got it handed  to them a few times. (couple of legions wiped out)

Quantity has a quality all it's own.

But generally, armies that had the "Warrior" mindset did not do well against disciplined troops.

473 Because the church has been taken over by leftists who are more concerned with income equality, gay rights and what the call social justice than the claims of the Gospel. The year before I was ordained in the 90s the "Jesus Seminar" came out with its list of things Jesus supposedly authentically said. They voted by the use of balls. If they thought Jesus said something they put in a white ball, if they were convinced he didn't say it they put in a black ball, and if they weren't sure I believe they put in a pink ball. These were biblical scholars across denominational lines including Roman Catholic. These are the kinds of things that infect and affect most mainline denominational seminaries.

Factor into this the extermination of the beaver by the Iroquois and the 15,000 deer hides that were killed by the southern tribes and shipped through Charlestown every year for most of the 18th century. Remember this when evaluating Indian customs towards dead animals...

Over the years I've been fortunate enough to have cared for many horses, cows, dogs, birds. Each one has a soul and they are all individuals. The more you realize it, the more the weight of caring for them and being a good steward descends. As far as I know, there is no life within at least 500 light years. So this is it. I think God accepts us as we are and loves but doesn't want us to stay where we are. That's why this morning I posted the Easter letter from Pastor He clearly understands the costs and requirements of discipleship because he has suffered enormously. Much of the modern liberal church tends to thing of a political utopia as being the same thing as the Kingdom of God. And to be fair ,some other Christians think if we just had a conservative President we would be a Christian nation so there are people who are, IMO, off the rails all over the place.

501 And because i have a problem with social justice as it is thought by leftist religious folks it doesn't mean I think that the church shouldn't be about alleviating suffering or what is referred to the RCC as the corporal works of mercy. Jesus is quite clear about that. We're not supposed to accept Jesus as Lord and be pickled on the shelf until he comes back. We are supposed to grow in our faith and likeness to Jesus. It's just that too many churches are obsessed with gay marriage and abortion. As one Bishop In some other denomination (United Methodist?) said "If you are mainly concerned with those issues you don't belong in this church. We need to keep the main thing the main thing-spreading the Gospel and making disciples for Jesus Christ.

504 I said this the last time Elizabeth Warren came up, but I said it with a lot of words.  I'll use fewer now.

Warren is not Cherokee.

But IF she had Cherokee ancestry (which she does not), then there would be nothing illegal or immoral about her claiming it.  By federal and tribal law, anyone who can prove ancestry to a Cherokee-by-blood on the Dawes Rolls is Cherokee, and the blood quantum doesn't matter.

Anyone who agrees with Ace about the whole "self-serving," "99.2% white" deal is thus saying that it's somehow not okay for someone -- whom both the United States government and the Cherokee government would consider an Indian -- to not list that on the federal census, job app forms, etc.

If you think that, you're wrong.  It is perfectly okay for those people to do so, until and unless the laws change.  What makes it not okay for Warren is not that she's whatever percent white.  It's that SHE'S NOT INDIAN, by any objective or provable standard.
