12 I'm not a big O'Reilly fan, but I don't understand the O'Reilly hatred on this site.  I bet some of it has to do with the fact that this blog only posts an O'Reilly story when he picks on a conservative and never when he dumps on a liberal, which he does, a lot.  Maybe looking for page hits from outraged commenters.
Is O'Reilly a self aggrandizing, egomaniac, self righteous, populist, blowhard?  Absolutely.  But he has pounded Bengazzi, the IRS and the NSA scandals.  He has pounded the economy and Obamacare.  He is strongly pro life, being the only guy on TV that went after the abortion doctor.  He is strongly pro military.  Is he a hard core conservative No.  But he is the only guy on TV with big ratings going after the culture war, going after the way the secular progressive left is destroying America.  But the best reason not to hate O'Reilly is because liberals loathe him and he drives them insane with anger.

He does not interview primary source folks... or dig for facts, let alone truth.... he has a stable of pundits which he can bat around... That time slot would be more productive if it had an actual NEWS show in it... IMO... couple of nights ago he was talking about drugs... and one guest disputed O'Rs 'stats'.... O kept telling him he was wrong.... then at the end had to admit the guest war right... and did so without either grace, or apology.....

101 In news of the stupid, WWE just launched their new WWE Network at CES, they even dragged out Stone Cold to Vegas to help pitch it. Interesting sign of the times of the changing media landscape. UFC launched their network, Fight Pass, last week. WWE's is much more ambitious. They are trying to move away from the PPV model. Instead of charging $60 per PPV one time, the network is $9.99/month for all 12 PPVs, including WrestleMania. Big difference is with tradition PPV the cable companies get half. This new network is over the top, like Hulu or Netflix, and WWE keeps all the money. UFC's network is also $9.99, but doesn't include any PPVs. Instead it has overseas shows not show on US TV. The other angle is WWE is running it as a real channel. So there is 24/7 streaming content. Every money of every day there's a live stream, and then their massive tape library of every PPV and show in their history. I think launching this as an over the top digital network was Plan B. They wanted to have the WWE Network alongside the NFL Network and NBA Network on your premium cable package. They've been trying to get that to happen since 2011. But the cable companies didn't bite, or played hardball, and now WWE is trying to bypass them. Fascinating to see if it works. A huge, huge gamble cause if they fuck up their PPV revenue that causes a serious disruption in revenue and they are a public company. Raw and Smackdown will still be on cable, so this isn't WWE going a la carte on their own. But if the WWE Network does succeed for their PPVs that will always be a threat in the future in their negotiations -- pay up or we'll just run it on our own network and sell ads ourselves. This is a huge blow to the PPV industry. If it works.

123 Gingy - Worth the read, but the part re Pollack, I excerpt here: -------- "Rockwell and Jackson Pollock were household names at midcentury, the mild-mannered New England scenarist and the reckless downtown action painter. For his painting “The Connoisseur,” of a gray-haired gent in an art museum, Rockwell created a very respectable imitation Pollock for the gent to stand looking at — he put a canvas on his studio floor and dripped paint on it, “meticulously recreating an image of freewheeling spontaneity.” Rockwell enjoyed doing a Pollock — he respected Abstract Expressionism and said that, if he were young, he might well paint that way — but it’s hard to imagine Pollock attempting a Rockwell or taking pleasure in it. Why would such an enormous ego stoop to parody and go to all the trouble of getting the details right? ------------------- link to Sunday Book Review Article: http://tinyurl.com/llnyqtr

In that same sense, Rush is, almost by definition, good at his job. I don't watch O'Reilly much. But if they ran it to appeal more to me they'd probably lose viewers. I mainly wish he'd have fewer left-wing activists types. Those people suck as humans, are never honest, and also suck as humans. But Ailes and O'Reilly know what they're doing. They aren't activists. They are in the business of making money by making TV shows that people will watch. And they are provably good at that.
