Environmental Weenies Slam EPA for Wasteful, Carbon-Producing Travel on Earth Day of All Days
— Ace

Even weenies can have a point on occasion.

The Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility says the greenhouse gases generated by EPA administrator Gina McCarthy's week-long, five-city tour will "far exceed" any concrete action on climate change from her travels.

...

Ruch noted that some events on McCarthyÂ’s itinerary have questionable ties to promoting climate action, such as joining Energy Secretary Moniz to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Tuesday's Red Sox vs. Yankees baseball game at Boston's Fenway Park.

Ruch said McCarthy is a frequent air traveler and has been criticized for commuting frequently back to her home in Boston. An agency official told The Daily Caller earlier this month that McCarthy sometimes drives home to Boston on the weekends, but the official did not specify how many times or the vehicle she uses.

On Monday, McCarthy will appear on "The Daily Show" with Jon Stewart. The rest of the week is packed with a visit to Boston, to throw out the first pitch at a Red Sox game, and a trip to Ohio to discuss the health impacts of air pollution.

On Thursday, McCarthy will be in Georgia to talk about the impact and costs of climate change.

The tour will wrap up Friday in Tennessee, where McCarthy will be joined by Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and Shaun Donovan, secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

The opening act on the tour will be Hootie and/or The Blowfish....

Throwing out a ceremonial first pitch is a notoriously tough gig, but on Tuesday Environmental Protection Agency administrator Gina McCarthy will take her chances on the mound at the Yankees-Red Sox game at Fenway Park.

To prepare, McCarthyÂ’s recently been trading pitches with her deputy, Bob Perciasepe, between meetings and other business. When they have a chance, the agencyÂ’s top two officials have been slipping out to the courtyard inside the EPAÂ’s headquarters for quick practice sessions. (Perciasepe will be throwing out the first pitch at Nationals Park that evening, so they both have incentive to brush up.)

Yeah, see...I don't understand how this could work.

The alcohol evaporates in the process to create the powder, right?

So how does the alcohol get back into it when you add water to the powder?

I'm not a chemist...but this just doesn't sound possible.

125 Powdered alcohol from wiki: According to food chemist Udo Pollmer of the European Institute of Food and Nutrition Sciences in Munich, alcohol can be absorbed in cyclodextrins, a sugar derivate. In this way, encapsuled in small capsules, the fluid can be handled as a powder. The cyclodextrins can absorb an estimated 60 percent of their own weight in alcohol.

179 Looks like Missouri is taking out the garbage tonight. On September 21, 1993, Rousan, RousanÂ’s son Brent Rousan, and RousanÂ’s brother, Robert Rousan, met and discussed stealing cattle from Charles and Grace Lewis. Charles Lewis, 67, and his wife Grace, 62, lived near the farm where Rousan resided. Having devised a plan, the Rousans set out for the Lewis farm. On the way, they discussed killing Mr. and Mrs. Lewis. They agreed that "if it had to be done it had to be done." As the three drove past the Lewis farm, William Rousan pointed out the cattle they would be stealing. Between 3-4 p.m. that afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis returned home. Mr. Lewis began to mow the lawn. Mrs. Lewis spoke on the phone to the coupleÂ’s oldest daughter, who called at approximately 4:00 p.m. Brent grew tired of waiting and exclaimed that he wanted to "do it." Rousan told Brent to wait until he and Robert had secured the house. Rousan headed for the front door and Robert made his way to the back door. Before they arrived at the home, Mr. Lewis saw Brent and called out. Brent fired at least six shots from the rifle, all of which struck Mr. Lewis. He died as a result of those gunshot wounds. Mrs. Lewis, speaking by telephone with her daughter, told her daughter that she heard gunfire and hung up the telephone. As Mrs. Lewis exited the house through the front door, Brent shot her several times. Although the bullets fractured both of Mrs. LewisÂ’s arms, the wounds were not fatal. Mrs. Lewis ran back into the house. Rousan followed her, removed a garment bag from a coat rack, and placed the bag over Mrs. LewisÂ’s head and the upper part of her body, picked her up and carried her outside. When Rousan placed Mrs. Lewis on the ground, she was alive. Rousan turned to Brent and instructed him to "finish her off." Brent fired one shot into the left side of Mrs. LewisÂ’s head. The shot killed her. The three men wrapped the bodies in a tarpaulin and tied it with a rope.

It wasn't until we had a majority of R's in both sides of our statehouse...and an R-governor...that we got the law passed here, to ban affirmative action.

So I suspect that this has something to do with it in other states.

People think that Oklahoma has been a red state for a long time.

It hasn't.

And the Dems here are constantly trying to change it back to blue.

195 I mean not even convincingly. University of Washington a few years ago publicly announced they weren't considering Asian people a minority anymore. Nobody does. They're not an "underrepresented minority". 'Cause Americans are so racist that an easily identifiable and visible minority can live in this country and...do extremely well.

Posted by: AmishDude at April 22, 2014 03:40 PM (1UzRc)

196 about race quotas even if they are eliminated it wont matter admissions officers have already discovered that if they make admissions based on economic "class", they can get the number of minorities they want most admissions are already switching to basing decisions on income if your parents are successful, it will be held against you and it will be very difficult to challenge in court

197 Of course, racial discrimination was already supposed to be illegal. That was the whole point of the Civil Rights Act, right? So we do we have to pass extra laws to say -- oh, yeah, and racial discrimination is illegal even when applied to white kids applying college. Shouldn't that have been included in the whole "no racial discrimination" bit from the beginning?

I liked Penn and Teller's 'Bullshit' show on Showtime.

I don't think that Showtime knew in advance what they would be getting, though.

210 You can't get more concentrated than the pure compound. It's an inefficient way to carry alcohol, if it exists at all. I have my doubts. What? Alcohol sold in the US is the "pure compound" along side a bunch of water and other things. So this powder is a sugar that holds 60% of it's own weight of the alcohol compound. The result is going to be much more powerful than wine or beer. Say you have 100 grams of this sugar stuff. You bond 60 grams of the alcohol compound to it. The result is 160 grams of "powdered alcohol". That means the 160 grams is 37.5% pure alcohol.

It means that a "Latina" (Italian doesn't count) girl who went to private school in New York and went to college on racial scholarships, by virtue of her heritage (not skin, she's got white skin) is oppressed while a white redneck kid raised by his mother in the backwoods and went to a poor public school is a beneficiary of "white privilege". 231 Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia faulted Justice Sonia Sotomayor for making what he regards as a “shameful” suggestion that the Michigan voters who decided to ban affirmative action in college admissions were motivated by racism. Scalia wrote a concurring opinion upholding a 2006 ballot initiative that amended Michigan’s constitution to ban affirmative action. “As Justice Harlan observed over a century ago, ‘[o]ur Constitution is color-blind, and neither knows nor tolerates classes among citizens,’” Scalia concluded, quoting the dissent in Plessy v. Ferguson. “The people of Michigan wish the same for their governing charter. It would be shameful for us to stand in their way.” And then, the Parthian shot: “And doubly shameful to equate ‘the majority’ behind [the constitutional amendment] with ‘the majority’ responsible for Jim Crow,” he added in a final footnote, citing the first two pages of Sotomayor’s dissent. Sotomayor, in her dissent, opened by describing three stages of “the majority” discriminating against racial minorities in the political process, beginning with the Jim Crow laws that flouted the 15th Amendment. “This time, although it allowed the minority access to the political process, the majority changed the ground rules of the process so as to make it more difficult for the minority, and the minority alone, to obtain policies designed to foster racial integration,” she wrote. “Although these political restructurings may not have been discriminatory in purpose, the Court reaffirmed the right of minority members of our society to participate meaningfully and equally in the political process. This case involves this last chapter of discrimination.” Sotomayor offered her own footnote, cutting against Scalia’s charge. “I of course do not mean to suggest that Michigan’s voters acted with anything like the invidious intent of those who historically stymied the rights of racial minorities,” she countered. “But like earlier chapters of political restructuring, the Michigan amendment at issue in this case changed the rules of the political process to the disadvantage of minority members of our society.” Weasel Zippers: Hum? Things seem to be a bit testy on the Supremes? Good.

The Democratic National Committee has named New York as one of 15 cities that could host the party’s convention in 2016, the DNC confirmed – a first step in survivor-style competition cities must go through to win the prize of hosting the super bowl of political events. The bid raises the real prospect that Hillary Clinton could end up making political history by accepting her party’s nomination in her adopted hometown – and all just blocks away from de Blasio’s Park Slope neighborhood. Porretto's blog, Liberty's Torch: Boris and his wife lived simply and saved every bit of their meager income to buy a goat so that their children could have milk. Ivan spent all of his money on vodka and envied Boris for having a goat when he didn't. One day Ivan was digging through some trash at a dump and found a lamp. He idly rubbed the lamp and a genie popped out and said "For freeing me from my prison you can have one wish. Anything you want, just name it and it is yours." Ivan said "One wish. Anything I want?" The genie replied "Anything you want." Ivan thought for a moment and finally said "I wish that Boris's goat would die." THAT'S social justice.

278 MSNBC’s Michael Eric Dyson: Whites Benefited From Affirmative Action . . . Like The G.I. Bill… Wait, this idiot thinks the G.I. Bill is affirmative action? MICHAEL ERIC DYSON: So for me, it’s very simple. Many white people are not asked to talk about their own privilege. …We’re pretending as if white Americans have not been the recipients of Affirmative Action from the beginning of this nation on down to the 20th century. When we talk about the G.I. bill which in majority strokes went to white Americans — there were a few other exceptions — it created the middle class, it provided opportunities for them to buy homes, to get educated and to get employment. That is an extraordinary degree of Affirmative Action. … So my point is simply we don’t ask white people to ask questions about their privilege, we don’t ask the degree in which they’ve been recipients of Affirmative Action Weasel Zippers: Whata fucking idiot and scumbag

279 The Citizens Commission on Benghazi, a self-selected group of former top military officers, CIA insiders and think-tankers, declared Tuesday in Washington that a seven-month review of the deadly 2012 terrorist attack has determined that it could have been prevented – if the U.S. hadn't been helping to arm al-Qaeda militias throughout Libya a year earlier. 'The United States switched sides in the war on terror with what we did in Libya, knowingly facilitating the provision of weapons to known al-Qaeda militias and figures,' Clare Lopez, a member of the commission and a former CIA officer, told MailOnline. She blamed the Obama administration for failing to stop half of a $1 billion United Arab Emirates arms shipment from reaching al-Qaeda-linked militants. 'Remember, these weapons that came into Benghazi were permitted to enter by our armed forces who were blockading the approaches from air and sea,' Lopez claimed. 'They were permitted to come in. ... [They] knew these weapons were coming in, and that was allowed.. 'The intelligence community was part of that, the Department of State was part of that, and certainly that means that the top leadership of the United States, our national security leadership, and potentially Congress – if they were briefed on this – also knew about this.' 'Some look at it as treason,' said Wayne Simmons, a former CIA officer who participated in the commission's research. 'But the U.S. ignored his calls for a truce,' the commission wrote, ultimately backing the horse that would later help kill a U.S. ambassador. Kubic said that the effort at truce talks fell apart when the White House declined to let the Pentagon pursue it seriously. 'We had a leader who had won the Nobel Peace Prize,' Kubic said, 'but who was unwilling to give peace a chance for 72 hours.' In March 2011, Kubic said, U.S. Army Africa Commander General Carter told NBC News that the U.S. military was not actively targeting Muammar Gaddafi. That, Kubic revealed, was a signal to the Libyan dictator that there was a chance for a deal. Gaddafi responded by 'verifiably ... pull[ing] his forces back from key rebel-held cities such as Benghazi and Misrata.'
