— DrewM Obama likes to talk about how he's using his "discretion" in enforcing immigration laws to focus on deporting illegals who have committed crimes (in addition to being here illegally). As in so many other cases, Obama's talk is unrelated to his actions.
“ICE released 68,000 criminal aliens in 2013, or 35 percent of the criminal aliens encountered by officers. The vast majority of these releases occurred because of the Obama administration’s prosecutorial discretion policies,” Jessica Vaughn, director of policy studies at the Center for Immigration Studies, wrote in a memo summarizing the DHS document.
ICE classifies illegal immigrants as criminal if they have been convicted of a crime, not including traffic offense, Vaughn noted.Sen. Jeff Sessions (Ala.), the ranking Republican on the Budget Committee, blasted the administrationÂ’s record.
“The preponderance of the evidence demonstrates that immigration enforcement in America has collapsed. Even those with criminal convictions are being released. DHS is a department in crisis,” he said in a statement Sunday.
But you know, we can do amnesty because...background checks! What's the matter? Don't you trust Obama?
Well maybe you'll trust...John McCain who once again vowed to work for amnesty because that's what Ted Kennedy would have wanted.
Related(ish)...The GOP establishment has a fever and the only cure is more Jeb "Amnesty" Bush.

Hey, jackasses! How about the fact that they're in this country FUCKING ILLEGALLY? Huh? Last I checked, something that is not legal is a fucking CRIME, and therefore a criminal offense.

Who or what in the hell is the driver behind this big Jeb Bush push? Jeb Bush is a former, unspectacular governor of a medium-sized state and his last name is Bush: that's it, that's all. Those are his qualifications. Neither his father's and brother's administrations are considered exemplary by historical standards, to put it mildly. Jeb Bush has written no influential books, made no notable speeches, achieved nothing while in public office that has marked him as an exceptional politician.
So someone please tell me: why is this pudgy, nondescript, mediocre nobody being shoved in our faces as presumptive frontrunner for the Republican nomination and all-around Next Big Thing?

Back in '08, in primary season, the media all pulled just as hard as they could to get McCain the Republican nomination. Mavericky awesomeness!
Then of course once their preferred candidate was locked in, they immediately turned on him like a pack of slavering jackals and went full bore on destroying his campaign.
Among the things they trotted out were a bunch of tut-tutting observations about McCain's age and health. Why, he's older than dirt! He's still all messed up from the Hanoi Hilton! He's had CANCER, you know, and it might COME BACK. There are really solid odds that if we elect this guy President, he would die in office before completing even one term!
At the time I figured all this as just routine election season boilerplate from the Democratic Party auxiliary known as "the media".
But in retrospect, how I wish it had been true. Instead here we are six years later and McCain just keeps going and going and going like the fucking Energizer bunny.

No member of the Obama Administration is going to jail, so get that out of your head. For one thing, President Obama will never be held accountable. Impeachment is the only recourse and impeachment of the first Black president simply isn't happening even if the GOP takes the Senate. For another, presidential pardons. Lots of them, a veritable blizzard of pardons. Pardons falling like parade confetti. His people are safe from prosecution.
The only thing for it is to grit your teeth and endure the remainder of Obama's second term and pray the economy doesn't crash and foreign aggressors decide there's no better time to make their move than while that SCOAMF is in office. I honestly believe Obama would indecisively balk at ordering a retaliatory strike even if the birds were in the air and headed our way. I'm thinking Putin thinks the same thing, and so do the Chinese. Our current President stinks of weakness and they can smell it.

If you had a comprehensive law that granted permanent residency it would come with the identification needed to make employment tougher for them to get.
Please explain how this would change from the current paradigm of rampant, near universal Social Security fraud where storefront immigration shops openly advertise that they can get anyone an SSN, regardless of whether they are in the country illegally or not.

That's probably at least part of the reason why the GOP Establishment is pushing Jeb Bush's candidacy so hard. He speaks Spanish fluently and I believe his wife is Hispanic, as well. As I understand it, Karl Rove and other Republican think tank bigwigs are frantic with anxiety over losing the Hispanic voting bloc as the Republican Party lost the once-faithful Black voting bloc. It never seems to occur to them that ideas about individual freedom and opportunity have a universal appeal transcending skin color and ethnicity, and that playing into racial politics means fighting the Democrats on their home ground.
So yeah, it seems the GOP Establishment is willing to risk losing some or even most of the support of their conservative base in order to keep the Latino demographic in play. But that's okay: I don't think they like us much, anyway.

Yes we need immigration reform, but NOT what has been rolled out the last half dozen times. Every bill that has come out since the first major rewrite in 1965 has basically been amnesty and open invitation for illegals to flood across the border.
We are no longer the country of the 19th century with vast open areas in the West. Our cities are overcrowded shit holes run by corrupt communist hacks AND there is no longer a vast area open for the inhabitants to flee to and take up farming.
This is not to mention that we have entire towns in CA with a population > 20,000 in which none of the citizens speak English. The current crew of "immigrants" do not appear to desire to assimilate and the current crowd of liberals do not think they should. The schools have gone from teaching America as a mixing pot to America as a salad bowl where "diversity" is celebrated and heritage counts for all, unless you have a European heritage then you are a racist.
Yes, there are a lot of things that need to be done to "fix" our immigration laws. The first one of these should be to repeal that POS of Amnesty Round I that got us where we are today.
We need immigration law that does the following AND that is enforced:
1. Eliminate the BS anchor baby interpretation by providing a definition of what the term “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof” means, which is not dashing across the border to deliver a baby. Personally, I would require that at least one of the parents of any child born in the U.S. be a citizen before that child was eligible for “birthright” citizenship. If not, then the child would have to undergo naturalization.
2. Provide a reliable means for employers to check the status of employees.
3. Provide severe punishments for knowingly hiring illegals (or reckless disregard). That punishment should include jail time for repeat violations.
4. Eliminate ALL benefits for illegals including schools for children.
5. Rewrite legal immigration to allow in immigrants with a desirable education and/or skill set and arrange the waiting list to have the most skilled/educated at the top of the list. (Australian system) Also include a check for communicable diseases (as we did in the past) and provide for immunization. Immigrants from countries on the list of terror support need not apply.
6. For groups that already have large populations in the U.S. who have not assimilated, reduce the allowable numbers until they do (eliminate whole towns that do not speak English)
7. Provide severe penalties for mules.
8. Provide the death penalty for people involved in sex slavery.
9. Eliminate all forms of asylum. That system has been abused to the point of making it a joke. Any true case that needs to be let in should be a case by case special act passed by congress. Get them on record.
10. Immigrants who become involved in any serious crime prior to becoming a citizen should be deported back to their home country.
11. Absolutely no dual citizenship allowed.
12. None from any country that aids, abets, sponsors terrorists or that is run by a Muslim Theocracy.

I'm looking all over the ICE website but I can't find a damned definition for what they consider a "crime" versus an "offense." It's very irritating.
Hawaii has a pretty good definition of what THEY count as a traffic offense versus a traffic crime (http://tinyurl.com/mpwbllo), but I don't know how that applies to ICE.
I know what the ICE Levels of Offense definitions are and what their apprehension priorities are (PDF: http://tinyurl.com/4urrs26), but that doesn't help much. Though they do mention in one of the footnotes: "Some misdemeanors are relatively minor and do not warrant the same degree offocus as others. ICE agents and officers should exercise particular discretion when dealing with minor traffic offenses such as driving without a license."
I personally think "driving without a license" is a little more than a "relatively minor" misdemeanor.

When I started my naturalization process, I had to go find a doctor in Canada to perform an examination and look over my medical history to fulfill the requirements. It also had to be a doctor on an approved list of doctors from INS, not just any doctor. The doctor I saw looked at the approved list and laughed and said several of those doctors were either dead or retired. INS is horribly inept at keeping up with their own shit.
Immigrants who become involved in any serious crime prior to becoming a citizen should be deported back to their home country.
The final interview for my naturalization involved an interview with an INS officer. The very first question from him was, "Is it your intention to lie to me today?" After that, he had a whole list of questions ranging from the usual "Have you ever attempted to overthrow a legitimately govt?" to "Are you or have you ever committed acts of terrorism?"
Absolutely no dual citizenship allowed.
There's already no dual-citizenship allowed. In the US govt's eyes, you are either an American citizen or you are not. I still have my Canadian passport, but I can no longer re-enter the US with it. I must use my US passport or else men with shotguns.

It's a real problem everywhere.
At one point I mentioned that on a blog with a bunch of liberal commenters, and every single one of them went straight up the wall, did a fingernail hang, shrieked about TEH RAYCISS ELEVENTY, and accused me of making it all up.
I patiently dug up absolutely exhaustive documentation on the Hispanic DUI problem, including studies by the Department of Justice and the National Association of Chiefs of Police, and capped it off with a stack of public health surveys in which Hispanics consistently said that drunk driving was _the_ #1 preventable health risk in their community.
None of this made the smallest dent. Because TEH RAYCISS ELEVENTY. You just can't get through to liberals on this stuff.

Different parties. different styles.
As a general rule, Republicans tend to nominate the favorite, Democrats tend to go for the outsider.
Bush III might have problems getting the Dem nomination, as will Hillary if Booker or someone else jumps in. But he would probably have a straightforward run in the Republican race.

Incorrect.
From Rand Paul's senate website:
"I do not support amnesty, I support legal immigration and recognize that the country has been enriched by those who seek the freedom to make a life for themselves. However, millions of illegal immigrants are crossing our border without our knowledge and causing a clear threat to our national security. I want to work in the Senate to secure our border immediately. In addition, I support the creation of a border fence and increased border patrol capabilities."

From the report "ICE Response to the Task Force on Secure Communities Findings and Recommendations" (April 27, 2012) (PDF: http://tinyurl.com/mxpcbwm):
"III. Minor Traffic Offenses and Misdemeanors.
Recommendations
1. Withhold ICE enforcement action based solely on minor traffic offenses, and consider alterations, including conditional detainers, for other minor offenses.
ICE agrees that enforcement action based solely on a charge for a minor traffic offense is generally not an efficient use of government resources. For individuals arrested solely for minor traffic offenses, who have not previously been convicted of other crimes and do not fall within any other ICE priority category, ICE will only consider making a detainer operative upon conviction for the minor criminal traffic offense. Consistent with the HSAC’s recommendation, “the category of minor traffic offenses should not include driving under the influence, hit-and-run,
or reckless driving resulting in injury to persons, or other violations that have the potential of causing serious injury or harm to the public.” To implement this policy, ICE has issued instructions to the field.
It is important to clarify that for individuals convicted of minor criminal traffic offenses, ICE will continue to consider whether prosecutorial discretion is appropriate in individual cases in accordance with Director Morton’s March 2, 2011 and June 17, 2011 memorandums. In assessing whether prosecutorial discretion is appropriate in a case of an individual convicted of a minor traffic offense, ICE personnel will apply the direction of the Civil Enforcement Priorities memo. That memo, as noted above, explains that because some misdemeanors, like minor traffic offenses such as driving without a license, are relatively minor and do not warrant the same degree of focus as others, ICE personnel should exercise particular discretion when dealing with cases involving such offenses. ICE agrees with the Task Force’s finding that “Secure Communities must be implemented in a way that supports community policing and sustains the trust of all elements of the community in working with local law enforcement agencies.” ICE believes that the policies described above further these important goals and will carefully monitor and evaluate their implementation.
It should be noted that states can choose not to submit to the federal government the fingerprints for individuals arrested for minor offenses. In states that do not fingerprint for minor offenses (or that fingerprint for state use but do not submit those fingerprints to the FBI), aliens cannot be identified through Secure Communities because they do not become part of the federal information sharing process in the first place."
So this would seem to say that things that DO result in grievous bodily harm SHOULD be counted as more than simply minor traffic offenses for the purposes of ICE. So I'm confused. Then again, that is not uncommon for me.

Shamnesty will be a done deal by 2016. Speaker Boner and his anti-conservative team of Ryan, Cantor, McCarthy, et al will pass it in the dead of night with a voice vote, which proved to be an effective parliamentary trick with the recent "Doc Fix", effectively a fixed vote. They will stop at nothing to clear the path for GOP Inc's RINO nominee for president, whether that be Bush III or Christie.

Have them build a website where illegals register to become legal residents.

Yes. There are more productive ways that people who care about the future of this country could be spending their time. For example look at the website www.rvotes.com. This is the product that Democrats have been using to kick our asses in elections since 2005. It is available for Republicans but the problem with it is that it relies on volunteers and concerned people doing the work to keep the database up to date and that decreases the influence of the big money people and the political consultants that they pay for with their contributions. If you read Democrat sites where they talk about the mechanics of winning elections instead of ideology, they talk about this data collection and updating all the time as well as ways to use this data. They now have almost ten years of experience using this product while the Republican Party uses "Voter Vault", a 1990s era system based on a top down model that provides outdated information to campaigns with 30% or more of the information out of date or wrong.
The rVotes system is available to state or county Republican organizations as well as to Tea Party groups. It is scalable and it allows information collected by individual campaigns to be shared or to be kept private.
If this system were available to Republicans, they could do what Democrats can do when they get pissed off. They can go ring doorbells and update the database so that in a few months when the election campaigns start in earnest, they will have already done a lot of the ground work in data collection that will allow limited campaign resources to be targeted at 1) trying to persuade people who can be persuaded and 2) encouraging voters to turn out to the polls. Instead, Republicans will continue wasting money sending generic, rather than targeted, campaign literature to the addresses of people who have moved away.

The "anchor baby law" is the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. I have kind of an issue with disregarding parts of the Constitution to solve immediate problems. There is already a political party that has ignoring the Constitution as one of its tenets but it is not the Republican party.

This isn't a surprise. Let us say our foreign nation is Lower Slobovia. Mr. and Mrs. USA Citizen have their child. By US law that child is an American citizen. Lower Solbovian law states that anyone born in Lower Slobovia is a Lower Slobovian, thus USA Citizen, Jr. is also a citizen of Lower Slobovia.
