House Votes to Hold Lois Lerner In Contempt
— Ace

The rest of us already held her in contempt without a formal vote.

The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to hold former IRS official Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress for refusing to testify about the agencyÂ’s targeting of conservative groups.

The House voted 231-187 for a resolution holding Lerner in contempt.

Gabe has written about what comes next.

23 So, we know we've been pretty anti-war for a couple decades now. Opposing just about every war, saying it's a right wing war on People of Color, that sort of thing. But we're pretty sure we have to go to war in Nigeria immediately and start sending drones right the fuck now. Some might say we've only become Drone Warriors now cause it's black girls at risk and that we are blatantly using our racial loyalty to drive American foreign policy. People who say that are probably just nasty white racists. You shouldn't listen them. War in Nigeria Now!!! This Is What Democracy Looks Like!!

These are quasi-judicial proceedings, rooted in the constitutional investigatory and legislative power of Congress, in which the members of Congress themselves act as judges, juries, and prosecutors. It is very important to note that this is not a judicial process. Posted by: chemjeff at May 07, 2014 04:11 PM (9GG/0)

132 i mean the harshest thing (gabe) is 4) Finally, either chamber could file suit in civil court for declaratory and injunctive relief after it has issued a subpoena that has been ignored. This is not a contempt proceeding, but it would be one way of enforcing subpoenas if any of the contempt procedures above failed. This is the least tested option, especially when the subpoenas are directed at the Executive Branch, because it raises so many separation of powers questions. Congress would be asking the Judiciary to force action by the Executive. Courts are usually very unhappy about doing that and usually refuse to rule on such cases, citing the political question doctrine. *The doctrine provides that some questions are more properly committed to a coequal branch of government, that the court has no standards with which to resolve the dispute, or that it would be imprudent to interfere.* wow we really are scerwed.

If Lerner is held in contempt, she'll join more than a dozen senior government officials held in contempt by congressional committees in the last four decades for either lying to lawmakers or refusing to cooperate with congressional investigations. Of those officials, only five have been found in contempt by the full House:

Anne Gorsuch Burford
Rita Lavelle
Joshua B. Bolten
Harriet Miers
Eric H. Holder Jr.

So, one of those 5 is the person determining whether to pursue prosecution. Wonder what will happen?

The FBI stated it found no evidence of "enemy hunting" of the kind that had been suspected, but that the investigation did reveal the IRS to be a mismanaged bureaucracy enforcing rules that IRS personnel did not fully understand. 206 That's from Jay Sekulow who is the lead counsel for the [ACLJ]. They have been the most active lawyers representing the Tea Party groups on this issue from day 1. He seems to know what he is doing. The ACLJ has had a number of interesting victories since it was founded. If nothing else, they demonstrate how ACLU doesn't live up to its stated principles.

215 >>is Ukraine the only one at risk or are other from the old eastern block also in danger from pipelines etc? Well Ukraine was always the prize because of it's location, much like Syria, but there are other former Soviet states as well as surrounding countries in play. All you have to do is look at pipeline maps and oil and gas terminals to see what is happening. McCain is right often but he was right when he said that Russia is a gas station masquerading as a country.
