The squirrel wins, but not without some bumps and bruises from the darts, rapid descent from the feeders, etc.  Fun to watch.

12 Since I believe firmly in the old adage "those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it" I am going to go with no. But it all looks shiny and new and possible right at this moment. In the Ukraine a feel good story of the common folk rising up against an oppressive and corrupt government and winning. mmmm hmmmm. That remains to be seen. Were they all really common people or just another corrupt faction well disguised until they are in control and then just as profligate and corrupt as the old regime?

With the old government running for the border for fear of its individual lives, they are certainly freer today than a week ago. It of course remains to be seen how they organize themselves later, but I'm not sure how dominated by the EU they're going to be given the way its falling apart at the seems.

Barry's never been shy about spending $ we don't have, and he does like America's leftist and islamist foes more than her allies. Count me as non-surprised if Barry should all of the sudden try to cough up an economic aid package...........

Students and young people are leading the protests in Caracas. Amazingly, they didn't believe Sean Penn when he told them how great their leaders are.

Can we have population swaps? Send their young people here and exchange them for our Obama-loving douchbag hipsters who think Communism is wonderful. It'll work out well for everyone - we'll get the freedom-lovers here and their government will get a bunch of pajama boys who would never ever dream of challenging leftist authorities.

As everyone knows, the commies didn't  overthrow the Czar.  They merely walked in after the naive started trying to do things peacefully.

Pretty much the same thing as happened  after the '91  revolution.

Russians  (and yeah, as far as I am concerned, Ukrainians  are Russians) don't much care for freedom  and self-determination.

The new tyrant will emerge  soon enough,  after the  old tyrant gets tossed.

50 Venezuela is only upset because the freebees ran out. If the rebels win, I'd bet my next paycheck (which will be hefty from the overtime) they'll install someone even more to the left of Maduro, possibly even more to the left than Stalin. And then they'll be totally confused why all the problems aren't fixed.

65 Hm, I don't think I'd heard of the upcoming Nicaraguan Canal (take that, Panama!). And now? How long can Wang Jing tread enthusiastic optimism? "Chinese billionaire confident $40bn Nicaragua canal will be built" Published June 26, 2013 http://tinyurl.com/ownyqpd Wang Jing, the chairman and owner of Hong Kong-based HNKD, a privately held infrastructure group, said his company has concrete plans for the ambitious project, which, in theory will break ground in 2014 and should be open for business by 2020. "We don't want it to become an international joke, and we don't want it to turn into an example of Chinese investment failures," Wang said at a news conference (AP Reports). The Chinese government would have no involvement in the project, as China and Nicaragua at present have no diplomatic relations. Wang said consultants on the project are US-based McKinsey & Co. and China Railway Construction Corp., ChinaÂ’s largest state-owned construction company.

96 the different one day makes... any translations ready?

127 According to Venezuelans, their country is in ruins. http://tinyurl.com/pydpgee http://tinyurl.com/qyyw8jl BBC News (Feb.22) Venezuela leader Nicolas Maduro, the close friend of the late Hugo Chavez having won by a narrow victory, now seeks talks with Obama. [Obama is not taking the offer seriously, and is giving Maduro the cold shoulder.] Maduro has accused US conservatives [CNN?!] and media organisations of plotting to overthrow his government. On Sunday last, Maduro expelled three US diplomats accused of meeting violent groups linked to the opposition. Political divisions have deepened since the election, and the economy has taken a downturn. With other opposition leaders, Henrique Capriles (who was defeated in last year's presidential election by a narrow margin) uniformly called on people to take to the streets on Saturday [today], in marches "against violence". US Secretary of State, John Kerry, denounced the latest action on Friday, saying: "This is not how democracies behave. I call on the Venezuelan government to step back from its efforts to stifle dissent through force and respect basic human rights. The solution to Venezuela's problems can only be found through dialogue with all Venezuelans, engaging in a free exchange of opinions in a climate of mutual respect." =/ who wrote Kerry's speech?

130 thank you Tami. In his opinion, this oversaturation is intended to "create a sense of crisis in Venezuela, so can legitimize any intervention or any coup". Social networks talks now about next March called for Saturday by the opposition, which ensures that it will ask permission to carry it out. For the moment, however, without such approval. For its part, the Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro, insists that if they want to remove him from power are using constitutional methods as a revocation of the mandate. The Government of Venezuela also flatly rejected the declarations of the US President.Barack Obama, who called on one side to stop the violence in the country and on the other demanded to release all those detained for violent acts that have occurred these past few days. Denounced the Government of mature, it is a new arremetida by us.UU. to control the natural resources of Venezuela, mainly oil. http://tinyurl.com/pfc6xlt

141 Klitschko wiki --- Vitali Volodymyrovych Klitschko (/vɨˈtæli ˈklɪtʃkoʊ/; Ukrainian: Віта́лій Володи́мирович Кличко́, [ʋiˈtɑʎiɪ̯ klɪtʃˈkɔ]; born 19 July 1971) is a Ukrainian politician and former professional boxer. He is the leader of the Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform and a Member of the Ukrainian Parliament. He is the former WBC, WBO and Ring Magazine heavyweight champion and has been conferred as Champion Emeritus by the WBC. Klitschko became actively involved in Ukrainian politics in 2005 and combined this with his professional boxing career till his departure from boxing mid-December 2013. He has stated that he is not officially retired, and will not rule out a return in the future.[7] Klitschko was the first professional boxing world champion to hold a PhD degree. Klitschko was known for his powerful punches and durable chin. With an 87.23% knockout percentage rate, he holds the second best knockout-to-fight ratio of any champion in heavyweight boxing history, after Rocky Marciano's 87.76% and is the 8th longest reigning heavyweight champion of all time. He has never been knocked down in any professional boxing bout. His two losses have come via a shoulder injury during a fight and a deep cut above his eye, which were recorded as TKO losses. In both fights, however, he was leading on the scorecards. His power and his possession of a doctorate have led to his nickname, Dr. Ironfist.

He also declared he will progressively liberalize currency controls to promote exports and invest more in agriculture.[52] Foreign policy Capriles stated in an interview with Reuters that he would move relations away from countries like Belarus and Iran. He also stated that a Capriles government would "accelerate the . . . peace process" between Colombian rebel group FARC and the Colombian government.[53] Other political activities On February 18, 2014, Capriles announced that he had joined the march organized by dissenter Leopoldo López and students.[54] Capriles called for the "consolidation of social movements to request the government to change its course." I don't think a short post can do this any sort of justice, but in brief we need to shrink specifically federal gubmint. Since no politician from either side will do this, the best way is to shrink the country -- Whether by red/blue state division, city/rural, regional, other. Keep some kind of loose affiliation especially including open borders within so that people are free to choose their form of federal gubmint.

192 Olympics are over tomorrow. My fraternal friends in the Ukraine need my help with the hooligans that have destroyed order and property. We, on behalf of the President, are sending 100 tanks and a division of troops to restore order and prevent further looting. It is the least I could do for peace.

Posted by: Velvet Ambition at February 22, 2014 01:58 PM (R8hU

Texas is currently a red state. In a partition scenario it would be free to determine for itself who got recognized as citizens, so DC's amnesty plans aren't relevant. I doubt a lot of blue state lefties would be looking to move to Texas, while many righties would, even if it mean being poor for a while (which makes Texas redder). I have to assume lefties currently in Texas committed to living in a lefty country would relocate in the other direction (effectively house swapping with the blue righties). This all assumes some modicum of order in the transition, though that is unlikely for a number of reasons (DCs stubborn refusal to go away, not sure what anyone would be using for currency, etc.).

I'm sure you are aware,  photographs can lie as well.

It's interesting that we have an  entertainment news industry dedicated to making stars look as good as possible.  We also have a nice little internet niche where people try to reveal the dark  and ugly side of celebrity.

I don't  see how anyone  could come down on  the side of one being fuller of untruths than the other.

I personally  will side with the dark and ugly, because celebrity is a lie, in and of itself.  As an industry, it exists only to create illusion, so if some people try to life the veil, and reveal some nasty stuff underneath, I'm going to go with their word.

Not  because  it  is more likely true, but because SOME of it  is going to be true, and it's healthier for our society to have some balance, rather than having the one side dominate exclusively, because  they have the money and the power to create their own version of reality.

212 No, there's a specific claim -- made anonymously on the internet -- that Hayden has a sexual fetish where she enjoys being beaten. That's the only "source" for the rumor. Why would you choose to believe that? Especially given the fact that she's constantly in the public eye without any bruises or marks? And that she's never had any TMZ style public breakdowns or odd behavior. She appears to be just a successful, pretty young actress. That's crazy and irrational to choose to believe an anonymous rumor without any data or evidence to support it. That's a really specific, and rare, claim -- that she has some sex fetish where she gets off on getting beaten.

221 Christine O’Donnell: I was a victim of the IRS From NYPost ---On March 9, 2010, around 10 a.m., I announced my plans to run for senate representing Delaware. Later that same day, my office received a call from a reporter asking about my taxes. It’s since come out, after a halting and unenthusiastic investigation, that a Delaware Department of Revenue employee named David Smith accessed my records that day at approximately 2 p.m. — out of curiosity, he says. That these records ended up in the hands of the press is just a coincidence, the IRS claims. To add insult to injury, the tax records given to the reporters weren’t even accurate. I had never fallen behind on my taxes, and a supposed tax lien was on a house I no longer owned. The lien was highly publicized and used as political ammunition by my political opponents. The IRS later withdrew the lien and blamed it on a computer glitch but, at that point, the damage — and the invasion of my privacy — was done.

260 The situation in the Ukraine would seem to be a repeat of the "Orange Revolution" of 2004, including the fact that Putin has been the President of Russia both times.  The only difference is that this time the opposition leader is someone imprisoned by the pro-Russian faction, while the last time it was someone they poisoned but did not quite kill (Yushchenko).  Without fraud and intimidation the pro-Russians cannot win an election there, so if this situation solidifies I would suggest that the former opposition/now de facto government concentrate on electoral reforms as a top priority.

Somewhat impressive that the wikipedia page for the President of the Ukraine has already been updated to show the acting President (Turchynov).

281 http://www.newrepublic.com/article/116720/ukraines- revolution-overthrows-yanukovich-heres-what-could-be-next Not a bad summary There will, inevitably, be a hangover. I won't try to predict what's going to happen in Ukraine in the coming weeks and months, but here are some of the moving pieces to watch. East and West: There is a huge element of anti-colonialism in this revolt. Most of the crowd in the Maidan speaks Ukrainian and the tents are marked with the names of the Ukrainian-speaking West. For at least the last century, speaking Ukrainian was an inherently political act, one that showed one's cultural and spiritual independence from Russian political and linguistic dominance. (This is in part why Tymoshenko, who had to learn the language, now speaks exclusively in Ukrainian in public.) The Russian-speaking east of the country doesn't share this sense of oppression. They feel closer to Russia, and don't mind the Russian embrace. They also have most of the country's industry. For the last week, there has been talk of the country splitting, or, worse, civil war. While I think civil war is highly unlikely, the East-West divide is going to be one to watch: will the Russian-speaking East go along with the change, or not? The Crimea: The home of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the Crimean peninsula has long been a subject of contention between Ukraine and Russia, with the latter deliberating whether it should have been kept by the Russian Federation in the 1991 split. Russia has been fanning those fires, handing out Russian passports to local residents, and there are reports that pro-Russian separatism is on the rise. And, given the number of Russian speakers in the area, the more these tensions could rise. Watch, for example these Russians yelling at local activists who tried to set up their own Maidan in the Crimean city of Kerchi. Russia: What will Russia do? Sending in troops is highly unlikely, unless they feel the need to "rescue" Russian citizens in a restive Crimea—much like they did with Ossetians and Abkhazians during the 2008 Russian-Georgian War. There are also economic measures Russia could take to give force to its rather vocal displeasure. Yesterday, it already froze the second tranche of a promised loan to Ukraine. Now that its ally Yanukovich is gone, it's unlikely that tranche will ever get unfrozen. Before Yanukovich, when Ukraine was ruled by a pro-Western coalition, Russia often cut off the flow of gas to the country in order to exert political pressure. This tool remains in the toolkit. Europe: Tymoshenko is already saying that Ukraine will join the EU iminently. Will the EU let the economically troubled country in to reward it for its choice? Or will it continue to string Ukraine along, much as its done for the last decade? Tymoshenko: Tymoshenko has also declared that she will run in the country's newly announced presidential elections in May. Tymoshenko today is a newly freed political prisoner, but she is a rapacious and utterly, clumsily cynical politician with her own dark history of—and appetite for—corruption. Should she cruise to victory on this wave of revolutionary fervor, will she be any better than Yanukovich? As the outgoing prime minister, she ran against him in 2010, and lost, in part because Ukrainians had so tired of her take-no-prisoners approach to politics. Demobilization: The so-called self-defense groups patrolling and ruling the Maidan these last few months are now highly organized groups of men who have tasted victory—and their own power. What do you do after you take up a baseball bat and topple a president? Go back to your day job? The new interim Interior Ministry head said he promised the groups posts inside the Ministry, but the devil will absolutely be in the details: there are a lot of these guys, and some of them really are extremists. Will there be room for all of them? If not, what will happen to the rest? The nationalists: There is undeniably a faction of ultra-nationalists on the Maidan, and, when the violence started, they formed the core of the anti-government forces. They say they want to form a political party and run for parliament, but they too have tasted victory and blood: will a seat in the Rada be enough?

I don't speak Ukrainian, but the word for freedom in Russian is svoboda.  Given the close relationship between the two languages, I'd say the odds are high that is what they are chanting.
