It's A Scandal Much Worse Than A Lane Closure In New Jersey
— Open Blogger

But it doesn't hurt a potential Republican Presidential candidate so it really isn't worth coverage in the national media. Thankfully the local media continues to dig.

The story behind the massive failure of the Oregon health exchange website continues to unravel as allegations of fraud and gross mismanagement mount.

Local news agencies have obtainedemails and other reports suggesting state officials lied about the progress of the website, possibly even creating dummy sites to present to federal officials.

“It’s a scandal much worse than New Jersey,” said state GOP representative Dennis Richardson, who is running for governor against incumbent Democrat Gov. John Kitzhaber.

The issue is starting to bubble up to Capitol Hill. Richardson is calling for an audit of the program by the federal Government Accountability Office. That push would likely come from Rep. Greg Walden (R., Ore.), the only Republican in the Oregon delegation.

A spokesman for Walden said the congressman is “aggressively pursuing” more information about the botched rollout of the website.

“Greg is very concerned about failure of Cover Oregon,” a spokesman for Walden said in a statement to the Free Beacon. “The breakdown of the exchange is unacceptable, and taxpayers deserve accountability for the more than $300 million the federal government has given the state.”

OregonÂ’s health care exchange recently announced it has enrolled more than 100,000 people, which is impressive considering not a single one enrolled through the exchange website.

Even within the legislature: the States balanced by the People. When you shift that balance, bad things happen.

It's difficult to imagine anything starting this badly ever getting straightened out. It seems to have been created by weird policy wonks who have no understanding of how people think and act. 69 Posted by: Jay in PA at February 11, 2014 10:06 AM (3LaGb) I believe this is true. I also believe even the Democrats realize that's a bridge too far; thus all the delays. I think they wanted a much more gradual destruction of the private health insurance industry. I think they expected that businesses would just shut up and "make do." Which they are- they're making do with fewer workers working fewer hours. So now they are kind of stuck. I think they keep moving the mandate dates to try to buy themselves some more time. If the statutory dates are met and everything immediately falls apart (as it has been doing), then even the dimmest of LIVs will realize that the problem was government interference. So they're hoping to decouple those things in the public consciousness.

The bartender looks at his two swollen eyes and says, " Your eyes must be painful.  I have Russian cure for you .  Would you like?"

Costas  replies,  " Yes they are painful and yes I would like it cured"

The bartender  then  takes a pool  stick and  repeatedly  anally rapes Costas with it.

Costas crying out in pain screams, " What the hell are you doing?"

The bartender says,  "  I cure you.  I bet you  no longer think about pain in eyes.  "

Disagree.

There's a full 30% of the population that is dead-set for this; cheering on any and all of the tyrant's actions. They see the problems as not enough big government.

Then, when you add in gerrymandering and solid blue states, the Dems will never fall below the numbers necessary to drive these type of people into exile; they'll always have a safe harbor from which to hold their ground and continue to attack.

That situation, of course, is made entirely possible by the utter lack of an opposition party.

If  we had a body of men that understood that dealing with Democrats is as safe as sleeping with a live cobra under your pillow, that would be a different outcome.

When the Obama administration launched a campaign to attract enrollees into Obamacare, did they they front up a two-fisted, hard-drinking, cigar-chomping he-man? Hell no. They employed “Pajama Boy” to lure the mice into the trap. This is who they reckoned the rising generation would admire. The heck with aspiring to be a test pilot or an astronaut. What people want today is the “funemployment” guy; the thing who drinks hot chocolate in his parents’ basement preparatory to selling them on subsidized, crap insurance. Pajama Boy is the new beau ideal. Why would the PR men have used his visage to grace their ads if women preferred “manly men”?

I'm with RoyalOil.

If you watch, the criticisms over all of this aren't centered around "hey, the government can't do this," but rather "hey, we had the wrong people working on this, so let's fix it."

In other words, the criticisms you're seeing don't revolve around a philosophical objection to government doing any of this, but rather practical/pragmatic grounds about implementation strategies.

As it is, the next best thing they can do is just remove the debt ceiling all together.

Add complexity later and retain the simple as a fail safe, fall back system.

Most people never had much direct contact with the Federal government beyond the IRS and the Post Office.  All of the government ineptitude took place in office buildings elsewhere and there was always an insulating layer (business, etc.) between the public and the Federal government.

Then the TSA came along and started souring people, giving them a view of the ineptitude right up close and personal.  Now ObamaCare rolls in and really drops the ineptitude in daily doses without any insulation.  The Democrats and their MSM enablers can do what they want but I think they are whistling pass the graveyard on this one.*

217 “The breakdown of the exchange is unacceptable, and taxpayers deserve accountability for the more than $300 million the federal government has given the state.” Question I wish someone would ask of the progressive putzes in Congress and the White House: Given how much money has been pissed down the toilet by the government on the botched rollout of 404Care, from the website to the ads, etc., wouldn't it have been cheaper to just give every American citizen $1 million to buy their own insurance? Then they could buy whatever insurance they liked and no policies would have been cancelled. If someone didn't buy insurance with that money, then stiff penalties could have been levied, say $100,000 the first year, $200,000 the second year until that $1 million was recouped from those who did not purchase insurance? Then they're on their own. Because, at that point, who cares because the person in question who didn't buy insurance sure didn't care. Yeah, too simple a solution and no .gov overarching control of the minutiae of people's lives.

221 Today's "you have to pass the bill to find out what is in it" award ...

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Hundreds of people with HIV/AIDS in Louisiana trying to obtain coverage under President Barack Obama's healthcare reform are in danger of being thrown out of the insurance plan they selected in a dispute over federal subsidies and the interpretation of federal rules about preventing Obamacare fraud.

Some healthcare advocates see discrimination in the move, but Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana says it is not trying to keep people with HIV/AIDS from enrolling in one of its policies under the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

The state's largest carrier is rejecting checks from a federal program designed to help these patients pay for AIDS drugs and insurance premiums, and has begun notifying customers that their enrollment in its Obamacare plans will be discontinued.

The carrier says it no longer will accept third-party payments, such as those under the 1990 Ryan White Act, which many people with HIV/AIDS use to pay their premiums.

"In no event will coverage be provided to any subscribers, as of March 1, 2014, unless the premiums are paid by the subscriber (or a relative) unless otherwise required by law," Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana spokesman John Maginnis told Reuters.

231 For those of you who aren't familiar with the traffic patterns around the George Washington Bridge, they did not close any lanes on the bridge. They closed two of the three dedicated access lanes from Ft. Lee to the toll plaza.

It affected one town next to the bridge, and had no affect on the traffic from I80 and I95 and Rte 4 traveling East.

And....Ft. Lee is spoiled rotten, because they have so many lanes leading directly to the toll plaza, while literally everyone else using the bridge has to wait in traffic, sometimes for one hour, before they reach the tolls.

So....fuck 'em.

240 And what % of those 80K were already eligible? 'Cause that's another under-reported story. Posted by: AllenG (DedicatedTenther) Ah, F It. at February 11, 2014 09:45 AM

The surprise that the Medicaid expansion states are going to get is that the feds are going to claim that a huge percentage of new enrollees should have already been on the rolls (but didn't want crap Medicaid but were forced onto it because they didn't want to be penalized) thus the feds will not pay the 100% (going down to 90%) of the cost. So Medicaid expansion states will be stuck with the cost and no way to appeal it. Suckers.

242 Nothing against you, JackStraw, but I'm willing to bet real folding green that they take the House and hold the Senate. Never underestimate the "Rethuglican rayyycisss! They hate you! If they would work with Obama, you could keep your doctor!" drumbeat of the MFM. I'd take that bet. Did you happen to catch Claire McCaskill on Morning Joe this morning? She was asked if she was running this cycle if she would ask Obama to campaign for her. Surprisingly, she was honest and said no, his numbers in her state and many others stink. Mind you this is no ordinary Liberal, she was one of the first to endorse Obama in his first run and has been a huge backer of his. Mark Begich in Alaska is openly running against Obama and saying the only reason he would invite him to his state would be to show him the harm his policies have caused. Not a single Dem senator who is in a competitive race has committed to having Obama campaign for them. Not Hagen, Pryor, Landrieu, none of them. Obamacare is currently polling at 38%-51% on the RCP average and many of them most heinous regulations haven't even rolled out yet. It's all downhill from here. Tell me what Dems are going to run on this year other than war on women and illegal immigration?

247 "And how is that working out for them? They have zero chance of taking back the House this fall and at best a 50% chance of holding the Senate, and that is looking less likely every day." How is it working out for them? Let's examine your optimism with a bit of recent historical evidence: 2010 was supposed to be a wave election of historical proportions. The GOP took the House. How did that work out for the GOP. 2012 Was supposed to usher in a huge wave of Obama resentment because this was the first round of talk about how much damage he did to liberalism. How did that work out? We lost more seats in the House, picked up a few Senate seats, but not enough to matter. From 2001-2006, the GOP held the Executive and Legislative branches. So, for extra credit - did the size and scope of government shrink or grow? I'll say it again having used actual evidence to support my claim - you're engaging in wishful thinking.

253 Why not start a "Donate a web site to Oregon" campaign? There are millions of abandoned social media and blog sites out there. If you could just take five minutes of your time to send Oregon your unused site then maybe little Johnny Kitzhaber won't get kicked out in the street. You don't want Johnny to be in the street do you? You heartless bastards?

259 >>2010 was supposed to be a wave election of historical proportions. The GOP took the House. How did that work out for the GOP. So so. Did the liberals get gun control passed? Amnesty? Anything since they lost the House of any significance? I would have like to see more cuts but not gonna happen with Reid running the Senate. We can bitch and moan all day about the House leadership but all they can really do as the government is currently constituted is play defense and block things. Had they had control in 08 there would be no Obamacare. So yea, kind of important to win elections. >>2012 Was supposed to usher in a huge wave of Obama resentment because this was the first round of talk about how much damage he did to liberalism. How did that work out? We lost more seats in the House, picked up a few Senate seats, but not enough to matter. Not really. Why do you think Obamacare was held off until after the 12 election cycle? Look around, thats why. And had the msm not carried water for him on the cooked employment numbers and Benghazi and the IRS not been weaponized we don't know what might have happened. >>From 2001-2006, the GOP held the Executive and Legislative branches. So, for extra credit - did the size and scope of government shrink or grow? For bonus credit, did you support both wars? If so you can't complain about spending too much because thats where much of it went. Nothing was really being done after we were attacked in 2001 accept fighting wars and by the time Bush got around to trying entitlement reforms he had lost his governing mojo. But this is not then. Republicans across the spectrum are leading with cutting the size of government. The super charging of spending that has occurred under Obama is like nothing we have seen before and anyone with a functioning brain knows we are headed for disaster unless changes are made soon. But thats a completely different argument anyway. I was talking about defeating liberalism and how Obamacare is helping achieve that goal.

260 As crappy and leftist as the Oregonian is, they actually do love to dig into politicians and find dirt, regardless of the party. I suspect a lot of that is driven by the knowledge that all it means is that politician gets replaced by a different Democrat anyway.

IÂ’m have appointments today & IÂ’m turning this off. I hope the mouse works when I come home. This nonsense started yesterday morning. It tells me if I need batteries, they are fine.

I donÂ’t remember date that this
Mac was delivered, probably around this time of the month two years ago.

I wonder if the mouse is dying, now that warrantee is probably over?

In the few seconds it took for me to type this comment the mouse connected & then was lost four times.

263 "Did the liberals get gun control passed?" Wasn't going to happen even if they had the House. Amnesty? You think the GOP is preventing amnesty? Anything since they lost the House of any significance? Do you really want to talk about the spending fiasco and the GOP's utter failure here? "Not really. Why do you think Obamacare was held off until after the 12 election cycle? Look around, thats why. And had the msm not carried water for him on the cooked employment numbers and Benghazi and the IRS not been weaponized we don't know what might have happened." Wrong. They even blogged here about the supposed damage Obama was doing to liberalism. Didn't happen. To answer your question here: because Romney (The GOP candidate, remember?) didn't bring it up. Why? (Hint: it's about this liberalism that's supposedly damaged) And woulda/shoulda/coulda isn't an effective argument. For bonus credit, did you support both wars? If so you can't complain about spending too much because thats where much of it went. And how much of it went to the formation of DHS? Medicare part D? How much spending was reduced because of a reduction in government? Don't try to change the subject with Defense spending - focus on the liberal results of the GOP. The liberal results which are supposed to be damaging to the cause, which is central to the discussion. Republicans across the spectrum are leading the way in cutting? Perhaps you could give me some examples at the national level end of that spectrum?
