Mitt Romney Threatens America: If Jeb Doesn't Run, I Will!

Actually this is only according to a "source" of CBSNews' Bob Schieffer, for whatever that counts for.

“I have a source that told me that if Jeb Bush decides not to run, that Mitt Romney may actually try it again,” Schieffer said...

I like Romney, as a person, probably more than most readers do (and definitely more than some cobloggers do!).

But... eh... I dunno.

I don't like this idea of running as the Alternate Jeb Bush.

38 I kind of like the idea of Romney running again. 1) He's already been through the wringer once, so he knows what to expect and we know all the attacks that they will use. 2) He knows that the consultants who advised him last time were wrong, which hopefully means that he'll take a different approach this time. If anyone can realistically look at what happened and critically evaluate what they did wrong, it would be him. 3) He's a known quantity for voters, and they know that he was correct in a lot of his predictions. Hopefully some of those voters are experiencing buyers remorse over Obama and are more likely to look favorably on him, especially in light of 1 and 2 above. Obviously he has several major drawbacks, but I do think that the way we cycle through fresh meat every election leaves the power with the DC consulting class and the big-money donors who have networks already in place. A candidate coming even from the Senate or a governorship has to rely on those people to help provide the organization and funding, which in turn leaves the candidate at their mercy.

117 This is the problem with people who believe that they "have to give back to society". I hate that phrase. It implies that anyone who earns money has done something wrong. Anyone who is wealthy then has some sort of debt to the public that can only be repaid through charity work. It's piffle. Some guy that owns a farm producing oranges exchanges oranges for money. The customer has received what they paid for. If the customer is unhappy with the exchange, they are free to patronize another source. The debt is settled on delivery of the goods and the payment. Society at large has no interest in the matter once taxes are paid.

Cruz has not basically come out for open borders like Walker has.

I've seen Walker say several times that anyone who wants to come to this country and work should be able to do so.

Cruz actually polls about the same as the other GOP candidates, despite having had much worse press.  The most recent Marist poll actually has him doing better vs. Hillary than Bush and Rubio, and only one point worse than Paul. Also, other than Jindal, who has no chance, he's the only candidate that could at least partially counter Hillary's "historic" card.

300 Romney seems like a decent man. He also would have been a good president (even when you don't consider that a lobotomized cat would be a better president than the current one). But I've been disappointed in his need to get back in the spot light. I wish he would bow out gracefully, then maybe President Walker or Vice President Cruz could appoint him to some position where his expertise would be useful.

I came to really like Mitt in 2012 -- and I believe he won, but "lost" due to voter fraud and wusses in his campaign (remember he had 4 jets fueled up and ready to go to swing states to contest? But he was told by someone not to bother).

He was a great candidate up til Candy Crowley scared the mud out of him. He was doing really well before that, but it was not good to back down from Candy.

Mitt did win the 1st debate. Everyone agreed. He came out gangbusters. Next debate was a different story because he let Candy skeer him.

377 One more thing: if Mitt still campaigns on the promise that he will undo Ocare on his  "first day in office" like he did in '12 -- he's already a better candidate than Rand.
