— Ace Actually this is only according to a "source" of CBSNews' Bob Schieffer, for whatever that counts for.
“I have a source that told me that if Jeb Bush decides not to run, that Mitt Romney may actually try it again,” Schieffer said...
I like Romney, as a person, probably more than most readers do (and definitely more than some cobloggers do!).
But... eh... I dunno.
I don't like this idea of running as the Alternate Jeb Bush.

Rick Wilson has more knowledge of FL politicing than all of us put together.
I'll defer to his judgement on this.
My opinion? Jeb's wife is shy and he is very protective of her. No way he runs.
Going to be Walker, Jindal, Perry, Paul and maybe Pence in the primaries.
My money is on Jindal.
Bets?

I'm still hoping Perry will run.
It would be nice to have a President who is a veteran.
We might actually get the VA whipped into shape, finally.
And it would be nice to have a President who wants to devolve the power of the presidency that has been usurped by Precedent Barky.

I don't remember her name, so I guess I'll have to keep looking with a more generic search......
Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at April 28, 2014 03:10 PM (QFxY5)
The fundamental Perry problem is that he displayed a horrible lack of good judgment last time round, by proceeding into the primary debates while impaired.
There he was, totally stoned out of his gourd on pain pills, and didn't stop to say to himself, "Geez, I am wasted. High as a kite. I really shouldn't be doing this right now."
Instead he plowed ahead and made a meandering fool out of himself.
Now you can put this down to a guy who was not in his right mind failing to realize that he was not in his right mind. Sure, that happens.
But, critically, his hand-selected campaign manager and aides, who were not themselves trashed on pain pills, didn't have the brains to warn the boss that he was about to make a meandering fool out of himself, and keep him off that stage.
Indicating a poor job of hiring on Perry's part. Campaign pros exist to make sure the ship stays off the rocks in bad weather. Or if the captain is on drugs.
No, if there's going to be a Texan in the race for 2016, it's Ted Cruz.
Posted by: torquewrench at April 28, 2014 03:10 PM (noWW6)
According to the documentary about his campaign, he wasnt really sure if he wanted to be president back in 2012 and now he considers a second run? He wants to grace us with another halfassed, hopeless campaign? Whats wrong with this guy?
This is the problem with people who believe that they "have to give back to society". No, you dont have to. You are not indispensable. Please dont matyr yourself.

I really like Ted Cruz. I do.
But he wasn't born here.
Is it too much to ask to have a President who was born here?
I'm not ready to throw that requirement out the window altogether.
It doesn't matter if he is "technically, legally" eligible.
If we elect a guy who wasn't born here...it opens the door to anyone who wasn't born here.

I said to myself, "Jesus H. Christ on a pogo stick. This sounds amazingly like Al Gore's big push for 'reinventing government' in the 1990s. Is this what we've come to?"
Then I said, "It also sounds a whole lot like goddamned Newt Gingrich."
Well, as I related, it turns out Lamar ripped off this malarkey about federal agencies "enabling" we peons from Gingrich's new book. And Gingrich in turn appropriated that brilliant idea from Tim O'Reilly.
I went looking for the original Tim O'Reilly piece, and I found this:
http://radar.oreilly.com/2008/10/why-i-support-barack-obama.html
A more slobbering piece of tongue bath of Barack Obama you will seldom find. It's practically as bad as the Mark Morford piece about "the Lightworker".
So, ladies and gentlemen, this is what the modern GOP have come to. Their big ideas about how to govern are ripping off a stale piece of Obama fanboi cultist idol worship from six years ago, warming it up in the microwave, and then stealing it from one another.

BTW - Speaking of Mitt, he endorsed in the California Republican race for Gov today:
“...it’s so important to elect leaders like Neel Kashkari who understand how to jumpstart the private sector, fix our schools and get people working again,” Romney said in a statement. “Republicans in California and across the nation must unite behind candidates who will fight for our Party’s principles of fiscal responsibility and hard work -- and I believe Neel is that candidate.”
Neel being the Team Republican pick, an ultra moderate and the Goldman banker that ran the TARP program.

And, he'd take a Candy Crowley interruption, turn it around, and shove it right back down her bovine face.
Could he win? I think so, yes. Win or lose though, it might be the first and only time the LIV gets exposed to so much concentrated fact & logic. He'd break through a hell of a lot of media filters, that's for damn sure.

You can't start a few months before the election; you need to start years before the election. You have to generate cultural momentum above and beyond the media's influence and define yourself.
The GOP's brand is worthless and has been for a while. Just showing up on TV in April of an election year guarantees that the media/Left will freeze and polarize you before the primaries. You need to have an identity outside of that forum that you've cultivated years prior.
And, no, no one on the Right is close to achieving that right now.

I have to say, I don't ever really want to see the guy in public again, no disrespect, I think he'd probably have a made a competent president in light of the circumstances we are now in, I don't think he'd have repealed Obamacare, but everything else we'd be in better shape.
Despite initial objections, I'm willing to play wait and see. Depending on the calvacade of losers that enter the race on our side, and what the democrats do, he might be a good sacrificial lamb.
What a revolting development...

213 Mitt really brought the heavy lumber to his adversaries. All through the primaries. Non stop. It was ugly.
Then he laid down like a brick on the general election.
------------
Yep.
He wasn't squeamish at all about beating up on fellow Republicans.
But when it came to Barky...he wimped out.
It was embarrassing to watch.
People like to say that Perry embarrassed himself.
Well, what Romney did was worse.
Romney had everything going for him...lots of money, support of the establishment GoP.
And he blew it.

Cruz has danced to the same tune on immigration.
Either way, there's almost no chance he could win the general election.
Posted by: Hollowpoint at April 28, 2014 07:22 PM (X9Mnx)
Cruz has not basically come out for open borders like Walker has.
I've seen Walker say several times that anyone who wants to come to this country and work should be able to do so.
Cruz actually polls about the same as the other GOP candidates, despite having had much worse press. The most recent Marist poll actually has him doing better vs. Hillary than Bush and Rubio, and only one point worse than Paul. Also, other than Jindal, who has no chance, he's the only candidate that could at least partially counter Hillary's "historic" card.

Note to Mitt staff: You do NOT starch and iron a crease the cuffs in a rolled up shirt in a heavy industry photo op. You do NOT make a candidate's hair immovable in the firm October wind of an Eastern Seaboard shipyard shot.
Now, had Mitt taken Perry's meds when he was campaigning, that might have actually really helped.
Posted by: eureka! at April 28, 2014 06:56 PM (q7DBM)
I came to really like Mitt in 2012 -- and I believe he won, but "lost" due to voter fraud and wusses in his campaign (remember he had 4 jets fueled up and ready to go to swing states to contest? But he was told by someone not to bother).
He was a great candidate up til Candy Crowley scared the mud out of him. He was doing really well before that, but it was not good to back down from Candy.
I don't want him to run again simply because I want Cruz. But Mitt's better than Jeb or Christie, that's for sure.
