— Ace Big piece.
One of the cherished vanities of the media class is that they are sophisticated thinkers who see deeply into stories -- unlike brutish conservatives, whose primitive minds can only detect the crudest outlines of things.
Oh?
Conservatives defending their stance on the Az gay marriage bill remind me of the time Orval Faubus told me he wasn't a racist. Typing ...
— Ron Fournier (@ron_fournier) February 27, 2014The media seems entirely unwilling to even confess the possibility that being dragooned into actual participation in a gay marriage might be fairly characterized as impinging on someone's religious faith.
The Washington Post has it all figured out:

Let's be honest: The media likes gays and hates religious people, and they're eager to frame their reportage based on these preferences.
And then they'll mock the religious for believing themselves to be under siege and attacked and demeaned by the media and other important transmitters of cultural power (including, firstly, the government).
They'll call them paranoid for believing such a crazy thing.

21: "Millionaire Gay Couple Sues to Force Church Wedding"
I wonder if they will have to quit (officially) providing wedding services in churches just to avoid having to defile the ceremony for whatever alternative lifestyle comes along?
Perhaps Christians will have to hold secret ceremonies out in the woods like the old days.

How many people in the world are actually AFRAID of gays.
Like... two?
Bullshit word.
IF you get lefties to defend the word, the defense is usually that "homophobia" isn't being afraid of gays, but being afraid of your own inner conflict with your homosexuality. In other words, if you object to overtly homosexual displays, you're gay and don't want to be.

I pointed this out yesterday: Some 'conservatives' will simultaneously believe that it is A-ok for an amish or quaker to refuse to pick up a gun if drafted into the army, and that it is equally A-ok for a baker who refuses to supply a cake to a homosexual wedding to be sued out of business.

In related news, Jon Corzine had a flaky croissant for breakfast.

"Oh, actually, the Christian thing to do is to participate.
And proselytize.
Go where the sinners are."
Actually, the Christian thing to do is to respect both weaker and stronger brothers. Why does my right thing to be defined by your right thing to do?

In all honesty, the lefties waited too long for this kind of shit. In the 1980s, Cronkite would have been telling us how great this was and there would be no other info out there.
Mollie's brilliant piece would never see the light of day. Internets mother f'ers.

So, in our Biblically loving of others based in the Scriptures, we are told to love, but not to sin.
Yeah, in my understanding of Christianity the baker should bake the cake. Otoh, that's not the baker's understanding.
Since I personally am too much of an idiot to be trusted with telling the baker how to act on his beliefs I can't subscribe to an aggregation of idiots (the state) telling him the same.

Maybe the day will come when churches will have to stop solemnizing weddings for the state--simply pull out of the wedding business. They could still do religious ceremonies for members but that would have nothing to do with the legal side of marriage.

Marriage should just be a contract, and a religious ceremony, if you want one. Get the state out of the marriage business completely.

He should be asked to comment every day until he does. Not baited, not aggravated, not yelled at - asked. Like an adult.
He either believes that freedom of religion is absolute, even when it conflicts with his personal feelings, or he doesn't. Two adults entering a legal contract? Go for it. Forcing churches to violate their core tenants to appease a protected species? Go fuck yourself.
"Gabe, given the lawsuit filed against a church for refusing to perform a gay marriage ceremony, do you believe the state has (or should have) the power to compel a religious organization to violate their beliefs? Feel free to expound on your answer, but please open with either a 'yes' or a 'no'."

The Hemingway article is great! I honestly did not know that the federal RFRA was a response to the Indian peyote decision by the Supreme Court. I only vaguely remember that. Would be very good for Republicans discussing this to remind people that Chuck Schumer was an original sponsor of RFRA.
So, I have a dumb question, does any state really need to legislate on this? Can't anyone invoke the federal RFRA as a defense, even in a state anti-discrimination suit?

Marriage redefinition (this is the only accurate term for this topic) really showcases the degradation and collapse of the country. No, I do not refer to the issue of marriage redefinition itself - that is ultimately a cultural question, to which I am supremely indifferent.
I refer to the collapse of the rule of law. Look at the idiocy and histrionics of the district judge in the Prop 8 decision. See also the similar nonsense (with Kennedy, as often, standing out for his arrogance and cluelessness) from SCOTUS. And of course the sweet, sweet "standing" shell game. And these absurd, Soviet-like bakery/florist cases.
Bigotry, arrogance, lawlessness have successfully hijacked the country. Those qualities are on full, destructive display in the marriage redefinition case. The crude, Third World-like thuggery and lawlessness are of course on prominent display in other areas - amnesty and immigration lawlessness, mau-mau'ing bank executives or oil executives, race-baiting by the "president", expropriating senior debt-holders of GM/Chrysler, etc. But they're all of a piece.
So yes, those who go along with the absurd lawlessness and bigotry of the marriage redefinition juggernaut are just as un-American, pernicious, and beneath contempt as the vermin behind all these other disgraceful situations.

Appreciate your comments, some of the only ones that make sense here.
I warned these morons for years on various sites where so called "conservatives" kept refusing to see what was coming. At least Russia is acting decisively, no matter what anyone thinks of the specifics. Now in America we have totally in tank media that punishes any dissenting view on any homosexual topic as hate speech. Even the NFL and other sports leagues are falling for it.
With the help of certain libertarians and mod GOPers and such, sane people that just want to be left alone even are finding what they get in return for playing nice.
Leftists want this agenda on child friendly TV channels even. Look at the Fine Bros popular YouTube vids with kids speaking out, where they edit and try to get young kids to accept "gay marriage" etc. and to speak like progressive parrots. Proggies want it literally taught in schools, to ensure future generations accept homosexuality as being super-normal. With sensitivity training, too.
Yet go to Hedgehog Report and the mod repubs there will tell you "we need to stop talking about social issues, so we can win more elections" etc.
We got into this mess by NOT fighting full throat the cultural war 24-7 in all arenas. We did not lose by having so-cons; we lost by not staying united with messaged against this crap and the plans of the left exposed and attacked. We lost by not taking things as seriously and without compromise as Russia did over the homosexual propaganda to children being knocked cold. Once it infects, it's too late. And the US press of course only calls such measures, as they call the AZ bill, "anti-gay" instead of pro-leave us alone and even live and let live!
Posted by: Mehow at February 28, 2014 02:19 PM (def5M)
Is this the type of de facto speech codes you want to live under? Still blaming so-cons over it? Still trying to be libertarian or a moderate when the other side is coming for your kids, your soul your remote control 24-7 without compromise or apology and with zeal?
You were warned, Ace.
Many times, over a long time in fact...
