— Ace I'm heartened that Mozilla users are disheartened.

Most "sad" comments since the company
began tracking them
Companies make these kind of cowardly decisions because they fear the backlash if they don't give in to the Leftist Thought Police.
They should be made to fear more the backlash if they do.

Firefox is off my machines. Not terribly interested in Chrome, either, unless I want to help finance the Great Firewall.
Tyring a few alternatives, the hardest part is finding a decent RSS tool, Sage was/is hard to beat.

Absolutely. I have as little use for companies that cave in to pi$$ant bullies as I do for the bullies themselves.

I use Firefox cuz I can't stand IE and I need one that is compatico with all my bill paying sites. And this lousy Win 8 OS might crash if I try to change browsers; I'm not at all confident that I could recover the computer from that.
I'll just note for fun that one of the issues with MNInsure (MN's OCare site) is it wouldn't work with a number of browsers. I'd call that a feature, myself.

1. Google is the prime financier behind Firefox / Mozilla. As in 85% of their funding comes from Google.
2. Chrome is100% Google.
Supposition:
Google was in a very strong position to influence the decision to oust Eich. I suspect they supported the decision, perhaps even driving it, but that is just my belief.
Conclusion:
If you are trying to show disapproval of Mozilla's actions, switching to Chrome is probably not a good way to do so.
I switched to Pale Moon, and have been very happy with it so far.

By boycotting Mozilla for their (politically motivated) actions, are we doing the same thing they did to Eich?
Problem:
I think it sets a dangerous precedent when we start firing people and publicly trashing them because they support a political opinion different from our own.
For this reason, I'm pissed at Mozilla.
On the other hand, firing Mozilla (using a different browser) and posting angry comments online is the only thing I am really capable of doing to protest that action.
So... frustrated.

No, you're wrong. Pale Moon is not run by the same company as Firefox (Mozilla). It is based on the same open source code.
I personally do not have anything against the code that is behind Firefox. I am displeased by the management of the Mozilla Corporation. So, by switching to Pale Moon, I have stopped interacting with the management of Mozilla. True, Pale Moon is based on the same code, but the code is neutral. It is just a tool.
As a bonus, Pale Moon has optimized the code, so Pale Moon runs a bit snappier for me than Firefox did, plus all my add-ons still work.

Apple has politely requested that if you don't go along with Global Warming that you not use its products.
Pale Moon, even though it's streamlined Mozilla (Firefox Lite), works great.
I could be wrong, but I think it was the Firefox team that apologized to the world for my viewpoint that marriage is between a man and a woman.
Not Mozilla.

I sorta prefer IceDragon (a slightly lighter RAM foot-print), but either one works for me... http://is.gd/hNdcBO (I recommend opting out of their integrated DNS function, the browser will run faster without it.) And, I all of my preferred Add-ons work just fine with this browser.
And, for those of you who have uninstalled FF, if you have Glary Utilities, you may want to do a registry defrag. I gained about a 15+ % reduction in space after the uninstall.

diametrically opposite reasons, but I don't like open carry where concealed carry is already in place. If someone is open carrying in my neighborhood where I don't know the person , I will confront them, in a prudent manner, because I have constructive knowledge that they are armed but I have no idea why they are where they are and I have a sense of duty to protect myself and my neighbors. I would be remissed if I just ignored it and that person had bad intentions

It crashed on day 1 when I was installing stuff from the Web; had to go to a restore point and try again in a different install order. Backed it up to a thumb drive; tried to do an updated backup and it no longer recognizes the drive.

I don't know what you guys are running Win 8 on to be having so many problems. I have a Toshiba Qosmio laptop with quad core processor, 12 gig ram and have no problems in the year I've had the machine. I do some heavy duty video editing on this machine using Pinnacle 17 and other editing programs and have had no problems at all. I've had a few freezes while using Pinnacle, but those were Pinnacle issues. Win 8 has been very fast and very stable.

Brand new computer; brand new thumb drive bought specifically to back it up. I ran Win 7 for over 3 years and had to do a restore once in that entire time. So I'm blaming Win 8.
But that's just me. But it's the reason I have little confidence in changing much on the thing as I just don't want more headaches.

Mitchel Baker, Chief Lizard Wrangler and generally good person and stalwart in the Open Source movement must, I'm really sad to even type.., must now lose her job. That is what we should be insisting on. Eich can't possibly be restored after Baker threw him under the bus so the only way to balance the equation AND send a message to corporate America is for her to go. Intolerance and bigotry in the workplace has to be a firing offense whether done for malice or fear of the GheyKK.
They must fear us more than they fear the politically correct thought police. It is clear that appealing to their better nature or morality won't work. Fear. It works.
And yes it will make us worse people, but we live in evil days and good guys finish last in this toxic environment.

It's about...the Thought Police.
And privacy.
One of the most private things we have, are our private thoughts and our private beliefs.
This guy Eich was punished for not having the 'right thoughts' and the 'right beliefs'.
On top of that...Mozilla comes out and says that they're all about freedom and diversity.
So they are hypocrites, as well as fascists.
If you want to continue to support that...then fine.

Here's the problem though. HTML 5 is CSS + html + JavaScript. There are significant portions of the web now and in development that just don't run right without some scripting. That's fine if all you're doing is viewing text. Lynx is great for that. But if you're planning on using the web much in the next few years, shutting off JavaScript isn't gonna get you there.

++++
Except that all the advertisers and social media companies run their own scripts. If you go to a page like NRO, I see there are 16 different entities wanting to run one or more scripts. I allow NRO (and disqus if I want the comments), but disallow all the advertisers and social media bullshit. Page loads much faster, is less glitchy, and I don't have to look at all those flashing ads that everyone wants to run.
Works just fine.

More heads will roll. The vetting will continue. Right now, we're seeing takedown attacks on prominent industry leaders like Eichs and entertainment figures like Duck Dynasty's Phil. The Left will work its way down from there--and make no mistake, these aren't just Gay Mafia hits. It's the Left at work in toto. They/It are the Barzini in this deal.
In business, it's one of the primary functions of marketing experts to identify what/who are known as Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs). KOLs are the prominent, respected professionals in a given industry whom you attempt to influence, to bring over to your side (or your company's side, rather). What's going on now appears to be a kind of perverse inverse of that KOL identification process: attack these KOLs and generate fear among those who look to them for example and inspiration.
So yeah: this wasn't just a random takedown by the cheap date equivalent of Match dot com. It's way bigger than that, and way smarter.

Unfortunately, seawater to fuel is going to be extremely energetically expensive, so nothing short of the carriers with nuclear plants will be doing much of it. And probably not making it while underway at speed. There's not THAT much reactor power to spare while shoving a CVN through the water.
We used to have nuclear power in cruisers and destroyers. Clinton put a ton of quiet back-channel pressure on the Navy to retire all of those hulls. Often early, with plenty of potential service life remaining.

I've seen this personally (I'm not an LEO myself).
Bad drunk was kicking off in public. Had just caused a traffic accident and was then proposing to use a tire iron to beat on the guy he had run into.
Off-duty cop hears the fuss and comes to see what's going on. He badges the drunk, who promptly takes a swing at him with the tire iron. Not intimidated one bit.
Cop's sidearm comes out and things get loud and tactical for a minute or so, ending with drunk on ground with .38 muzzle to the back of his head, waiting for on-duty officers to arrive and complete the arrest.

The history of computing is littered with people who figured, well, the algorithm isn't all that, but we'll just shove more brute force processing power at the problem. That will surely solve things!

I went to 'Startpage'...and right there, up front, it says:
"Enhanced by Google"
So...thanks, but I think I'll stick with DuckDuckGo.

I suspect that most large cities under Democratic control (damn near all of 'em these days) are doing very similar things.
I've been watching the San Francisco police pencil-whip their crime reporting for decades now. To downplay both property crime and violent crime.
On the property crime front, I've seen SFPD refuse to take a report from a citizen unless the amount stolen exceeded the grand-theft threshold.
And on violent crime, they go so far as to count deaths which were almost certainly murders as "suicides" if there is any way they can spin it as being such. This is to distract from SFPD's horrible homicide clearance rate, which last I looked was under fifty percent.
Yes, that's true. If you off someone in the City By The Bay, you have better than even odds of getting away totally scot-free with the killing.

Thus, they are convinced that your change of browser is irrelevant. Soon you will find that your new product is also tied in with the Source of All Progress.
The harder Mozilla gets backlashed, the more urgently they will try to get a Statement of Principles out of every developer to prove this case. Someone is surely working on that project right now. And go ahead, call him Shirley.

The Belmont Club column reminds me of some dialogue from the movie A Man for All Seasons when Thomas More's son-in-law (I forget the name and I'm not going to search for it) spoke about the value of eliminating laws protecting heretics (going from a very shaky memory here). More responds by asking what then if the devil turns on you after all the trees protecting him are removed.
Memory is bad here but that was the gist.

They threw one of the true elite to the mob; as talented as the shriekers may be at whatever it is they do, it will never approach the contributions he's made to this world.
This succesful man sees the world different than the shriekers and perhaps they should think about that. Would they ever think that they could do something wrong?
Maybe Mozilla, which (who?) has cowed to the irrational leftist shriekers will realize that they took the wrong end in this tradeoff. Maybe consequences will be felt and may their smart will take us back away from the brink of humanity.

Mozilla has a financial arrangement with Google wherein it gets compensated every time its users use the Google search installed as default in the bar. Also, all FF users who click on Google ads deliver a commission from Google to Mozilla. Mozilla gets several hundred million a year from that arrangement with Google alone. So if a lot of business owners across the country like #438 to whom you were replying were to take FF off all their company machines they could definitely put a dent in Mozilla's bottom line.

The only addon issue I had after switching to Pale Moon and transferring all of my Firefox info was the loss of the Amazon search engine. Everything else is working fine.
Also, a sidenote:
Startpage = no tracking information, and better than DuckDuckGo
Now I just need someone that's not Mozilla to make a better 'Mozilla' Thunderbird.
