MSNBC Host Chris Hayes: Ending The Use Of Fossil Fuel Is Like Ending Slavery
— DrewM

See, the only reason we are using fossil fuels according to Chris Hayes (writing in The Nation, not blathering on MSNBC) is because the one-percent are making so much money from them, kind of like the rich did in the 19th century from owning salves.

Tim Cavanaugh writing at NRO took the time to read this nonsense so we don't have to and finds one potential problem (which it turns out isn't actually a problem from...a certain perspective) with Hayes' idea, it would kill a lot of people.

There are many more moderate suggestions than Hayes’s on the carbon-cap continuum. But his goofy idea makes clear that all of these involve some diminution in human life: less health, less longevity, fewer opportunities to pursue happiness. At some level that translates into fewer people — a consummation many warmists might devoutly wish, though few would admit that. (As green panics go, overpopulation is long over; global warming is merely on its way out.)

Lefties really don't like people. Certainly not "the wrong kind" and are happy to devise ways to shuffle the undesirables off the planet. From Nazi Germany, to Soviet Russia and Mao's China, whenever the hard-left gets control of state sanctioned violence, the death toll is enormous.

Eliminating carbon based fuel by fiat (as opposed to true technological innovation that makes economic sense) is simply a friendlier way to bring about the inevitable leftists end-game.

3 I'm glad that MSNBC has hired engineers like Chris Hayes to put us right about fuel usage!  Most places use an English or Humanities major to spout off on subjects they can barely pronounce, let alone comprehend, but not MSNBC!

7 Best part of that article:

Hayes said: “Before the widespread use of fossil fuels, slaves were one of the main sources of energy (if not the main source) for societies stretching back millennia.”

Cavanaugh calls back: "(Observe how deftly Hayes avoids putting two and two together in that sentence above about how slaves were energy before fossil fuels.)"

13 Environmentalism is an anti-human nature cult. Read up on "Deep Ecology". These anti-human psychos know full well that the world they are trying to create cannot support the current 7 billion humans alive today. Most Deep Ecologists claim the Earth has a maximum carrying capacity of only 1 billion people, or less. Ask them what will happen to the other 6 billion? They'll just have to go. But don't believe the eco-nazis are just dumb and don't realize their plans require near genocide of the human race. The intellectual core of the movement is well aware of what their plans entail. They are hard-core evil. It's a freakin' death cult. They honestly view humanity as a cancer that needs to be removed.

17 I tried to read that article and just. Yeah. It doesn't make a lick of sense. Not one at all. I mean, it's dehumanizing on all kinds of levels, not the least of which is the assumption that the problem with slavery was that it gave rich people a source of cheap energy not the whole, you know, owning another human being part of it. The hand waving, throat clearing attempt to be all oh I'm not making a moral equivalence makes it even worse. You know what's really racist? Assuming at a molecule of oil has the same moral rights as another human being. Oh. Let's not even get into the whole you do know there's a huge problem with human slavery going on the world right this very second, right, Chrissy thing. Our. Betters.

46 As an evil oil and gas guy, I have to point out that do you know carbon caps hurt the most: Emerging and third world countries. Sure, it will hurt the economies of developed nations in that energy effects all of our goods and services but the processes of development of infrastructure for clean water and food transportation are already sunk costs for us. In the third world, access to wealth generated by exploitation of their natural resources is the capital they use to develop those things. Remove that capital and they are less able to deliver the simplest of human needs when they can no longer fund it's advancement. So I ask: Greenies, why do you hate brown people ....yet want their free trade coffee? Also... "Racist!!!?!?"

From Hayes' piece:

To preserve a roughly habitable planet, we somehow need to convince or coerce the worldÂ’s most profitable corporations and the nations that partner with them to walk away from $20 trillion of wealth . . .

It's always coercion with these people.  Communism goes against human nature, so it needs an interim stage of the "dictatorship of the proletariat" to create a "new socialist man".  It is unpossible to persuade people to their cause, so they always resort to force.

68 Weasel Zippers ‏@weaselzippers University of Utah Moonbats Vote To Change SchoolÂ’s Fight Song After Deeming Lyrics “Racist” And “Sexist”… http://shar.es/TFRPi Political correctness has reared its head at the University of Utah, where the student government voted Tuesday to change the words to the schoolÂ’s fight song, “Utah Man,” because of what students say are racist, sexist connotations. The resolution argues “Utah Man,” whose words ring out at football games and commencement ceremonies, “has language and themes that individuals on campus see as problematic and contribute to their feelings of exclusion from participating in campus traditions.” It goes on to state two phrases that foster a culture of exclusivity and oppression. a) The Title of the Song – The title “Utah Man” can be viewed as referring only to male members of the campus community. b) Repetition of “Utah Man” throughout the song – can reasonably be interpreted as reminder of a status given to male students or men as representative of all students, even though many students at the University of Utah do not identify as men or being a man c) The phrase “Our Co-eds are the fairest” in the Song- this phrase can be reasonably interpreted as objectifying women on campus while also supporting a hierarchy built on complexion and skin tone, privileging a light or “fair” appearance

Not only does the dumb SOB not know anything about carbon and the industry of today, but he is totally ignorant on slavery ownership in the 18th century.  Most of the plantation owners of the 18th century were perpetually in debt and on the verge of bankruptcy.

98 Here's my theory: Forever, man has essentially blamed G-d for a much of what happens in nature. Cataclysms are 'acts of god'. One needn't be a genius to see how this developed - lightening and thunder = god is angry. We know that the left has no use for a deity and sees faith or belief as a weakness - a drug. But this doesn't alter the fact that someone needs to be to blame for things. Call it Superstitionism. When god still existed, we (even the left) understood weather. But since we (the left) now know that there is no longer a god, what could possibly be the reason for bad storms? Why man, of course. In spite of everything that everyone almost instinctively now knows (except the left), weather, and other cataclysmic natural events, can be viewed from a perspective of what we know from experience. But not to the left - the dogma of their new religion - superstitionalism, does not allow that. Man - the only advanced power in the universe - with the power to overcome and defeat the benevolent Nature is surely to blame. And any other belief is HERESY! Yes, I understand how you feel. I sometimes amaze even me. (and no, I have not been smoking pot this morning) Later maybe.

Drew wrote, "Eliminating carbon based fuel by fiat (as opposed to true technological innovation that makes economic sense) is simply a friendlier way to bring about the inevitable leftists end-game."

The problem of the Left is that many of them (let's call them Outer Party members) don't realize they are part of that endgame. Purges: they're a way of life. Ask Stalin's generals or Mao's fellow revolutionaries from the early days. Oh, wait, you can't.

Others have pointed it out as Drew has: there is an undercurrent of anti-humanism running throughout the Left, particularly among its environmentalists. They view humanity as a scourge, a virus, a canker sore on the lower liip of Mother Gaia As Edna St. Vincent Millay wrote in her play, 'Aria de Capo': "I am become a socialist. I love Humanity; but I hate people.".

This hatred seems to be a kind of bone-deep self-loathing writ large, aimed at our whole species. As a Christian, this spiteful malice seems familiar to me as it would for anyone who's read, say, the Book of Job or Genesis or the Epistles of Paul in the New Testament.

See, the only reason we are using fossil fuels according to Chris Hayes (writing in The Nation, not blathering on MSNBC) is because the one-percent are making so much money from them, kind of like the rich did in the 19th century from owning slaves.

-------

Let's use  Chris Hayes' reasoning:

The only reason we have government entitlement programs is because the politicians in government are getting so much political power from them by trapping people into dependency cycles, much like the rich did in the 19th century by owning slaves.

Neither do I...

The modern liberal is wonderfully bereft of just how wealthy the lowliest pensioner let alone the hoi polloi really are in the span of human civlization.

They are utterly reliant, especially with their fetish for 'organic', on a massive logistical web that the Caesar's could only have dreamt of....that they well nigh would not have lent the Olympian pantheon the ability to engage in.

You can with money get anything damn near anywhere on this planet smaller than a plane anywhere with a landing strip in 48 hours....the LONGEST you'd have to wait for anything able to be sea transported is roughly two-three weeks.

This web requires a relatively stunning deference to the rule of law and restraint from brigandage.

Insurgents can obliterate it with minimal effort.

NYC would be dead in three months with a dedicated insurgency.

If a Right-winger is effective in the public sphere then get him labeled racist UnPerson (like a Derb) and then banish them or at least contain them in a right-wing ghetto.

305 Posted by: alexthechick - SMOD/Orion Death Star 2016 at April 25, 2014 11:30 AM (mf5HN) Daily reminder time: With a few exceptions, localvore eating is actually worse for the environment for several factors including but not limited to Lack of economy of scale (especially in transportation) Necessity of interventions to get things to grow. etc. I said few exceptions. Example: MO grows a lot of tomatoes, they grow well here, so local tomatoes probably are better overall (but then we have economy of scale and lack of intervention for tomatoes.) This also isn't to say local sourcing is defacto bad either. For some things that don't transport well you may get fresher/better food. (Again, dependent.) But the idea that it's always better or always ecologically sound is based on stupid. (But if you make this point in a presentation on ecology during a paper competition you will be failed by the judge. I know from experience.)

329 BurtTC Yeah, you are right. Just don't know how to solve the problem since, as we agree, it's a self-selected group of right-wingers willing to play that game. Repubs that bash the Right get media invites and praise by the chattering classes and that really does help them with LIVs and swing voters and fundraising and all that. McCain played that game and it worked great for him. Got him a safe Senate seat, great power, the Republican nomination. Everything but the Presidency, of course, when the Media turned on him. But as a strategy for an ambitious politico, the McCain strategy works. Most politicos would kill to be a decades long Senator and presidential candidate. Problem is probably that the Right doesn't punish politicos who try to pull a McCain enough.

330 This is why an armed populace is important... people trying something like this would end up splattered against a wall. After the first food riots, those people will end up splattered against the wall regardless of whether the populace was armed prior or not. It just speeds the process along and minimizes the bloodshed.

370 Lefties really don't like people.

Leftists don't like anyone who is fundamentally better suited than them to survive in a resource-limited environment.  Subconsciously, they know they are inadequate to survive unless they 1) are parasitic and 2) constantly pit those that are suited to survive against each other.

When resources become scarce, how does someone who cannot fend for himself manage to survive?  By getting the competitive to kill each other, while hiding in the shadows, and taking their resources.

Everything you ever needed to know about the left.

400 Phys.og ran a piece on AGW (They are on board) Here's an excerpt from the current UN working group II on Climate Change: "One potentially strong measure policy instrument according to the report is to make emitters of CO2 pay a price in relation to the amount emitted – but it all hinges on this price being sufficiently high. In most countries, there is virtually no cost to emitting CO2 and other greenhouse gases. At the same time, studies from for example the International Energy Agency show that if a sufficiently high emission tax of SEK 1 (about USD 0.15) per kilo CO2 (or an equivalent permit trading scheme) were introduced in all sectors across the world, the total emissions could be reduced by half by 2050. The difficulty, however, lies in establishing sufficiently strong international agreements. Another effective intervention identified in the report is to stimulate research on new technologies. One dilemma, says Sterner, is that companies know they will have problems patenting new environmentally friendly technologies. This realisation of course affects their motivation negatively, implying that they will not do enough research and therefore there is a need also for state-funded research. Today, CO2 taxes are relatively unusual being limited mainly to a few countries in northern Europe. Sectoral taxes – on transport fuels are more common and have been shown to have very significant effects. On the other hand, many countries are in fact still subsidising fossil fuels. Sterner says that one important policy instrument would be to remove these subsidies. The measures discussed in the report also include voluntary agreements. 'I really don't believe in voluntary measures since they imply letting business and industry do as they please. Overall, I feel that our report may come across as too modest compared with the report from Working Group I, which was presented last autumn and described the climate situation in the world as catastrophic. But there are indeed real opportunities to limit the emissions,' says Sterner".

415 P.S.  For history buffs, Snyder's Bloodlands is tremendous scholarship and very well-written... maybe the best book of history I've read in ten years.   That being said, it's also a very harrowing read, particularly the section on the Ukrainian terror famine.   There's a reason they fear the Russians.

Tell me how to do one of the following:

- Catch a fish

- Grow a vegetable to seed, then replant the seeds the next year

- Harvest a wild game animal

Every step until it is on your table.

506 Tell me how to do one of the following:- Catch a fish- Grow a vegetable to seed, then replant the seeds the next year- Harvest a wild game animal Every step until it is on your table. ------------------------ Well, RWNJ, the first thing you do is you DON'T catch a fish or eat animals. They are people too, you know. You grow vegetables by asking the cis-gendered, polyamorous service consultant at Whole Foods where the seed to vegetable to see aisle is. Simple! You can identify these consultants by looking for the person that is your exact opposite. Next question!

558 http://tinyurl.com/kvr3zs3 The National Review shows more of the flaws. Between 2007 and 2012, the same period during which solar capacity grew tenfold, global coal consumption rose by the equivalent of more than 10 million barrels of oil per day. Meanwhile, in 2012, the contribution of global solar production was equivalent to roughly 400,000 barrels of oil a day. Put another way, over the past half decade or so, just the growth in coal use is equal to about 25 times the contribution now being made by all of the worldÂ’s solar projects. And the coal-fired power plants that have been built over the past few years are likely to run for decades. Since 1985, global electricity production has been growing by an average of about 450 terawatt-hours per year. The International Energy Agency expects global electricity use to continue growing by about that same amount every year through 2035.

That's an interesting and tough question. On the one hand, taking milk from a cow to your children is akin to raping the cow. I would suggest proving subsidies for all approved humans for soy milk. It's dangerous to drink 2% milk. On the other hand, Yellowstone is like the holocaust. I went on a tour once and a mosquito got pretty close to me. I literally died. Ok, I saw a slide show about Yellowstone but it was very scary. We have to everything we can to block the Keystone pipeline so that this volcano doesn't get mad and explode on us. 564 As someone who makes a living in power generation, I have to say that Chris Hayes has taken the early lead for the biggest dumbass Malthusian of the year. Of course, it's early and there are bound to be a lot of other strong entrants into the competition. Let's look at what you can't use for power: fossil fuels nuclear hydroelectric (honest to God, they want all dams to disappear) geothermal, although isn't universally hated yet Here's what you can use: solar: cloudy days, nights, lack of storage and limited useful lifespan of panels. Add in the fact that -currently- they use some pretty nasty chemicals in their fabrication and their disposal is going to pose a few problems wind: even less useful than solar. Not opposed, but there aren't tons of places where the wind blows regularly at the optimum speed for those things to do much good. Also, they take up a metric shit ton of land. tidal power: don't even. The number of places where that would work is extremely small To sum up, everything you're ALLOWED to use won't provide anywhere enough power to supply the grid. Ever. At best, they can be used for supplemental sources. I will add the caveat that there might be some enormous breakthrough in efficiency and storage that will render some of my comments moot. Which all leads me to this: What are we suppose to live on? Posted by: Nevergiveup at April 25, 2014 11:44 AM (t3UFN) You aren't. To achieve their goals, around 90% of the world's population will have to die off. And they are just fine with that.
