33 On Bill de Blasio ending horse rides in NYC--This has been fortold. For it is written in the Book of Igon: Louis Tully, posessed by the Keymaster: (to a horse) I am Vince, Vince Clortho, keymaster of Gozer, Volguus Zildrohar, Lord of the Sebouillia. Are you the Gatekeeper?  Coachman: Hey, he pulls the wagon, I make the deals. You want a ride?  Louis: (turns to the driver, growls, eyes flash red, turns back to the horse) Wait for the sign, then all prisoners will be released. (runs away screaming) You will perish in flames! Gozer will destroy you and your kind! Coachman: What an asshole. The prophecy has come true. As it is written, so shall it be.

Oh yes.  It's real.   Via ABC News:

"Aubrey Loots and Danny Leclair joke that they're getting married New Year's Day in front of 80 million of their closest friends, and the men say they aren't that concerned that a few thousand others may boycott the first gay marriage at the 125-year-old Rose Parade.

The pair, together for 12 years, plan to tie the knot atop a giant wedding cake on the AIDS Healthcare Foundation float when it stops at the Rose Parade's reviewing stand on Wednesday. Hundreds of thousands of people line the 5 1/2-mile parade route through Pasadena and an estimated 80 million more are expected to watch on TV from around the world."

They live for drama, and it opens donor checkbooks to their organizations. Their worst nightmare isn't the Christian Right, it's the apathetic who are so bored with their drama that they don't even oppose them. Apathetic people don't get them their boogeymen that they need to say "look at me, I'm oppressed!!"

Ever wonder why LGBT orgs have little to say about muzzies attacking them on the streets of Europe, or executing them in the Middle East? No one really pays attention to that, doesn't open those checkbooks, doesn't give them a power trip, and doesn't get laws changed. Not much they can really do about it either, so why bother

Meanwhile, at the parade that's supposed to be about effing flowers:

PETA supporters will be protesting a float sponsored by SeaWorld, which features a boy diving into a sea of ocean life, including a family of killer whales. Rose McCoy, a 12-year-old who recently jumped a barricade at the MacyÂ’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City to protest the same float, is also expected to be at todayÂ’s Rose Parade.

PETA says SeaWorld covers up animal abuse and captivity, and instead portrays a deceptively happy image.

Another protest is expected not against a particular float, but rather, against the paradeÂ’s theme. Grassroots activist and members of the Awake Coalition 2014 have organized an Occupy the Rose Parade protest. The group says 150 people are expected to march in protest of the paradeÂ’s theme, "Dreams Come True."

In a press release issued by the group, the protesters say the paradeÂ’s theme "is not the case for the millions of Americans who are facing foreclosures or whose jobs will be outsourced if the (Trans-Pacific Partnership) trade agreement is passed or whose water will be contaminated when fracking invades California."

253 Greens?

Mustard greens are the best, with turnips as a close runner-up. The main thing collards have going for them is that they are perennials. You can keep a little patch of collards in the back year round and always have fresh greens (in the south anyway). Kale is good but it doesn't usually get cold enough in FL for them to get savory. Spinach is best served raw in a salad.

And Dixie Crystal Pepper sauce is the proper topping for all greens. Tabasco will do in a pinch.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has thrown a hitch into President Barack Obama’s new health care law by blocking a requirement that some religion-affiliated organizations provide health insurance that includes birth control.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor decided late Tuesday night to block implementation of the contraceptive coverage requirement, only hours before portions of the law would have gone into effect on New YearÂ’s Day.

Sotomayor acted on a request from an organization of Catholic nuns in Denver, the Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Aged.

HOUSTON (AP) — Former first lady Barbara Bush has been hospitalized in Houston with a respiratory-related issue, her husband’s office said Tuesday night.

The statement from the office of former President George H.W. Bush said Mrs. Bush was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital on Monday.

“She is in great spirits, has already received visits from her husband and family, and is receiving fantastic care,” the brief statement said.
...
The Bush family matriarch had heart surgery in March 2009 for a severe narrowing of the main heart valve. She also was hospitalized in November 2008, when she underwent surgery for a perforated ulcer. In 2010, she was admitted to the hospital after having a mild relapse of Graves disease, a thyroid condition for which she was treated in 1989.

Especially because if they fold PETA will gain some legitimacy by claiming they pulled this off (even though Sea World Caves, I suspect it will be a not due to animal rights concerns but more due to the poor decisions they made.) Nevertheless, PETA will declare "animal rights victory!" and the media will agree and they'll be one step closer to outlawing meat .

We both said, what? But Mrs is a master chef, and we've kept the tradition ever since. With variations in recipe this might send some folks here screaming, but always black eyed peas. We have a new local source for the basic ingredient for our favorite sauce, NM green chili. I'll be adding a dollop of that. Helps make the luck flouresce.

A while ago, maybe a year ago, I was having fun with the idea of "prep work" to counter my procrastination tendencies. I don't wanna do the dishes right now, but I'll start around the edges, gathering dishes, cleaning the counters, emptying the dish drainer etc. etc. It's silly, but it can help if the attitude is the bigger issue as opposed to the actual dishes. I couldn't take a shower earlier but I got my clothes together, brushed out my hair, etc. etc. so that when I can get in there, it won't take long. All mind games, but I seem to need them.

A company Pepsi hired to do taste research uses HEK 293 stem cells to test the reaction of human taste buds to certain flavors. Note: the additives are being tested on HEK 293 cells, not the HEK cells being added to product. Now, HEK cells were origionally developed from the kidney of a murdered child-40 years ago. They are very common in all types of biomedical research, but these cells are thousands of generations removed from actual fetal tissue, nor does their use create a market for fetal tissue.
