I know some of you are Levin fans, as am I. Normally listen to his podcasts on my morning commute. Haven't listened since he is away for the holidays.

I have been enjoying the AoSHQ podcasts on the way to work. If any of the Horde has not tried them out I suggest giving them a shot.

well well... from yahoo news this morning:

The Supreme Court has thrown a hitch into President Barack Obama's new health care law by blocking a requirement that some religion-affiliated organizations provide health insurance that includes birth control.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor decided late Tuesday night to block implementation of the contraceptive coverage requirement, only hours before portions of the law would have gone into effect on New Year's Day.

Sotomayor acted on a request from an organization of Catholic nuns in Denver, the Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Aged. Its request for an emergency stay had been denied earlier in the day by a federal appeals court.

Sotomayor gave government officials until 10 a.m. EST Friday to respond to her order.

Happy New Year everyone - 2nd January.here in Sydney and a warm night

Lucky me - 5 weeks off work as I accumulated too many days somehow so we have a few things planned - cricket Test on Friday (5th Test Aussies v Poms), 2 nights in town next week when we act like tourists - we do this once a year - it's nice to act as if we don't live in Sydney! .

One thing that I'm puzzled about - those people packed into Times Square had no food or drink and couldn't go to a toilet for 12 hours? Or does everyone arrive just in time for that ball dropping thingie? Or do New York people have great bladder control?

Around Sydney Harbour if you want a good view of the fireworks you have to be in place hours before -.last time we went years ago we were there at 11.30am - to grab a place for our picnic blanket, chairs etc - and we left the next day at 1am!.

Finally a computer question - strange behaviour noted on laptop - .delete button doesn't work, and when I highlight to delete a full stop appears and it won't be deleted!

Laptop keycaps are on plastic scissoring mechanisms. If a hair or a crumb gets into that mechanism, it can cause the key not to work. You can *gently* but firmly pry the keycap from the bottom edge of the side of the keycap facing you until it pops. This will allow you to lift the cap like a lid and make sure there is nothing interfering with the mechanism. When done, simply push the keycap back down until it pops back into place. In case you are not comfortable with doing this, do you happen to have an old laptop you could practice on?

This is not incompatible with Amos 5:24-Let justice roll down like water and righteousness like an ever flowing stream. :^) I also pray that what is hidden be brought to light about so much that has been hidden about this administration.

136 Regarding Phil Robertson's "Rules for Dating": I am looking forward to liberals attacking him over it, for we also know that if religious conservatives had tried to stop blatant sexual overtones in songs targeted to young teens and tweens, they would be accused of being fuddy-duddy unhip Christo-Fascist censors. As far as the age Robertson talks about--I'm not going to address it, except to say that I long ago concluded it was perhaps not the most ideal to take the most adult-like yet incredibly immature segment of society, and instead of distributing them amongst the more mature segments, where their immaturity would be diluted and controlled, instead warehousing them in an environment where the ratio of older people to young people is the lowest it will ever be in the adolescent and adult lives, thus allowing creation in the dark of subcultures based largely upon the worldviews of kids 14-18 years old. A good question is how many students high school actually grow into maturity that would not have matured on their own if simply left to study and work on their own at the "family farm"; and how many young folks the high school experience sidetracks who would have grown in character sooner if exposed to greater number of adults in an environment with fewer peers, in an environment of greater relative equality between adults and young adult, and in an environment where resuts mattered. I don't know, but the idea that high school may be a net minus for society is not beyond the pale. For how many is it more of "Lord of the Flies" island or "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" vice Groton?
