You can steal a nation's wealth but you cannot steal good taste.

It looks like Donald Trump vomited all over the place.

Speaking of ostentatious, this is Denzel Washington's California home:

26 You will NEVER believe who is listed to get a piece of the Chevron Settlement PIe….. The Honorable Willie Lewis Brown of California. (Yes, THAT Willie Brown) Listed as an “advisor” or some such nonsense….(p. 104, 109) And the HuffPo “contributor” Karen Hinton was receiving funds all along to write press that made sure to disparage Chevron in every possible way – to the tune of $293,000. (p. 56) Kerry Kennedy got a cool $120,000 – for what, I don’t know.(p. 57) http://is.gd/O7QNnN And the Plaintiffs stood to get $0 as a result of the settlement – it all goes into a trust to be managed, of course, by the guy who’s been at the center of it all for the last 20 years. 68 Watch Perry build slowly.

I think he did  some real examination of what he was going to have to do.

Plus most all the bad stuff's been dredged up about him. They'll have to really dig and lie to come up with deal breaking stuff.

Unless he can't talk. But I think that was nerves and drugs.

He's really one of the few with proven governmental executive experience. (I know; Sarah, Jindal do and Trump has executive experience. But still he's got a proven track record about so much more than the others. One of his main negatives is that he's a governor from Texas and we had one of those not too long ago but that's mild compared to the rest.)

Plus I'd like to see someone sane and normal in the WH and not someone who you wonder are they there because of their skin or gender or some other thing that doesn't have to do with how well they can plan and think.

Jindal's a little flaky and Sarah has shown herself to be politically myopic in some ways.

To me, Cruz could just be saying what he thinks we want to hear and he's got this citizenship thing he should've realized was going to be a problem.
Rand's got too many questions about how far from the oak his little acorn fell. And I think he's too liberal at heart.

104 The Denzel Washington story is slightly exaggerated but he one of the good guys "The problem, according to Fisher House President David Coker, is that while Washington did make a 'sizeable' donation to the program, the e-mail claim is almost entirely bogus. "Denzel came to visit with the soldiers and Marines being cared for at Brooke Army Medical Center last December 17th," Coker said. "He visited with them and told them how much he respects their service. He also toured one of the two Fisher Houses at Brooke Army Medical Center." Washington told Coker at the time he would like to make a commitment to support the work of Fisher House. "Denzel did not take out a checkbook and write a check on the spot," Coker says. "He seldom carries a check book with him." Coker said Washington did in fact make a sizeable donation to Fisher House several months after his visit to BAMC. He declined to comment on the size of the donation, but it was not enough to build a new Fisher House. " Read more at http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/denzel.asp#52Ix1eb8Bj7iCs7U.99

That said, he has stood up to the estab GOP and twisted their tails and that shows commitment of sorts.

Paul makes me think he'd turn the day after getting sworn in.

I don't even consider Huckabee a socon. He's a pandering huckster.

Contrast Santorum, who actually is a socon. I know because I bought Santorum's book. That guy means it. You'll notice Santorum isn't nearly as in-your-face about the God stuff as is Huckabee; Santorum actually argues the point that social-conservatism is good for society.

Huckabee wants a (nominally) Christian caliphate with himself as the caliph. Or at least he keeps hinting that he does; he's always proclaiming his own holiness. I'm not even convinced yea or nay on whether he's a sockpuppet by some anti Christian donor trying to make social conservatives look like Hollywood parodies.

Yeah, I cannot stand the man.

They have "people" who do that for them. I'd guess that the reason the donation took a while is because he brought it up to his accountants/financial people, they probably worked it into his yearly donations for tax purposes.

144 I'd like to see Sarah try to run to see if she could push back some of the crap they dumped on her... I think that would be a terrible reason to run and I wouldn't respect her for it one bit. I get why some think they would want a 2016 run to happen but the results could NOT possibly live up to expectations and frankly I think the motives suspect. I understand identifying strongly with Sarah Palin and I think she is a fantastic voice for the conservative movement. However, I don't identify strongly enough with her (or any politician for that matter)to have an emotional investment in re-fighting the 2008 culture wars (and that's a large part of what the Palin hysteria on the left was about)just to "vindicate" myself or my convictions. A.) I don't feel the need. The opinions of a Tina Fey or Katie Couric didn't shake me then and don't shake me now nor do those of the morons who uncritically accept said. B.) Sarah's a big girl. She can hack it! Hell, she was even a Governor, which is way more than I'll ever be, much less aspire to soo... Pretty sure she doesn't need the humble likes of me to "defend her honor" or something. And, if this strikes (some of) you as a personal attack or an attack on conservatives in general, I would ask you to reconsider what animates this defensiveness in you.

But I would crawl across broken glass on a minefield to vote for Palin. She is the real deal. I said way back in 2008 that I wouldn't blame her if she turned her back on politics altogether, after the shitstorm she endured. I was hoping she would run in 2012 and was disappointed that she didn't. I'm still hoping for 2016. Nevertheless, she doesn't owe me a damn thing.

Posted by: rickl at March 08, 2014 05:37 PM (sdi6R)

163 I don't get the comparison between the Ukranian public officials, who have obviously abused their positions to enrich themselves, and Denzel Washington, who as far as I know, earned his money through his own hard work. I did a Google News search on him, and all the top hits are for his professional stuff. Didn't see any of the 99% bullshit or anything like that. Checked Wikipedia, and don't see anything that would make me tag him as a lefty hypocrite. Even his personal life is pretty upstanding. Here is the whole "Personal Life" section:

On June 25, 1983, Washington married Pauletta Pearson, whom he met on the set of his first screen work, the television film Wilma. The couple have four children: John David (b. July 28, 1984), who signed a football contract with the St. Louis Rams in May 2006 and has also played with the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League (John David also played college football at Morehouse); Katia (b. November 27, 1986) who graduated from Yale University with a Bachelors of Arts in 2010; and twins Olivia and Malcolm (b. April 10, 1991) (Malcolm graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in film studies and Olivia played a role in Lee Daniel's The Butler.). In 1995, the couple renewed their wedding vows in South Africa with Archbishop Desmond Tutu officiating.

Washington is a devout Christian, and has considered becoming a preacher. He stated in 1999, "A part of me still says, 'Maybe, Denzel, you're supposed to preach. Maybe you're still compromising.' I've had an opportunity to play great men and, through their words, to preach. I take what talent I've been given seriously, and I want to use it for good." In 1995, he donated $2.5 million to help build the new West Angeles Church of God in Christ facility in Los Angeles.

Washington has served as the national spokesperson for Boys & Girls Clubs of America since 1993. As such, he has been featured in several public service announcements and awareness campaigns for the organization. In addition, he has served as a board member for Boys & Girls Clubs of America since 1995.

In mid-2004, Washington visited Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) at Fort Sam Houston, where he participated in a Purple Heart ceremony, presenting medals to three Army soldiers recovering in the hospital from wounds they received while stationed in Iraq. He also visited the Fisher House facilities that are also part of Fort Sam Houston, and after learning that additional Fisher House facilities were needed due to exceeded capacities, made a substantial donation to the Fisher House Foundation. Washington's other charity work includes donating $1 million to the Children's Fund of South Africa, and $1 million to Wiley College to resuscitate the college's debate team.

Washington is an Independent. He supported Barack Obama in 2008.

The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia named Washington as one of three people (the others being directors Oliver Stone and Michael Moore) with whom they were willing to negotiate for the release of three defense contractors that the group had held captive from 2003 to 2008.

On May 18, 1991, Washington was awarded an honorary doctorate from his alma mater, Fordham University, for having "impressively succeeded in exploring the edge of his multifaceted talent". In 2011 he donated $2 million to Fordham for an endowed chair of the theatre department, as well as $250,000 for a theatre-specific scholarship to Fordham. He also was awarded an honorary doctorate of humanities from Morehouse College on May 20, 2007. On May 16, 2011, he was awarded an honorary doctor of arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

In 2008, Washington visited Israel with a delegation of African American artists in honor of the Jewish state's 60th birthday.

The only thing I see is that he voted for Obama, but apparently only in 2008. I don't think it is fair to begrudge him his success on that alone.
