You see, everybody in NYC should have someone shovel snow for them, including the someones who actually shovel the snow? Here's another thing: The poor do have people shovel snow for them. If you live in an apartment building, you aren't shoveling any snow. It's only those in the outer boroughs who own their own houses (or rent an entire house) who even think about shoveling their own snow. DeBlasio deserves all of this and I'm glad he's getting it from Tina Brown.

100 Posted by: MWR, Proud Tea(rrorist) Party Assault Hobbit at January 03, 2014 12:20 PM (4df7R) What drives me insane about Leftists is their complete inability to understand the nature of the relationship between Money and Labor. I installed my own laminate floor over the last several days. Does that mean I "didn't have someone to do it?" NO. It means *I* was the "someone" I "had to do it." The rich can afford to hire someone else to shovel their walks because they have accumulated enough capital that they don't have to physically do it themselves. That is, the VALUE of the MONEY to them is less than the value of not having to get out in the d*mn cold and shovel their own walk. The "poor" have to do it themselves because they have not accumulated that much wealth. That is, the value of the money to them is MORE than the value of not having to get out in the d*mn cold and shovel their own walk.

Well the aussie ship was trying to leave the area but then got a message that the chinese boat was having trouble and to stand by in case THEY needed rescue.

so the aussie boats standing by but it's not out of the ice field yet either and it COULD get stuck also.

If the wind doesn't shift  and drive some of the ice out of the bay, they could ALL be stuck with NO one nearby for rescue.

This could turn into a military emergency. Lots of money, lots of risk for all concerned.

190 Second vehicle stuck in front of our house. We only got 3-5", but the road is pretty slick. This one's a car. The first was a power company truck that was one of two repairing a downed line between our house and the neighbor's. No power for about an hour and a half, which wasn't that bad considering the wind they had to work in. Kudos to the Delaware Electric Co-op linemen!

210 Well the aussie ship was trying to leave the area but then got a message that the chinese boat was having trouble and to stand by in case THEY needed rescue. so the aussie boats standing by but it's not out of the ice field yet either and it COULD get stuck also. If the wind doesn't shift and drive some of the ice out of the bay, they could ALL be stuck with NO one nearby for rescue. The hilarious thing is that this is the summer down there. Those boats could be stuck in the ice for a year or more.

Correct this is the HEIGHT of summer as in there are less than 14-21 days of potential warming left.

The Antarctic ice is heavier than it has been in a century of recording.

Show me ONE news report that acknowledges those facts.

238 (BERLIN) — Police say a World War II bomb has exploded during construction work in a western German town, killing one person and wounding at least eight others. The dpa news agency reported that police in Euskirchen, near Bonn, said the driver of a bulldozer was killed in Friday’s explosion. Two people were seriously injured and six others suffered lighter injuries. Unexploded World War II-era bombs are still discovered frequently in Germany, though it’s relatively rare for those finds to result in death or injury.

266 The local school system made a robocall to parents telling them to make sure their kids wore coats. You realize two things had to happen for that robocall to be recorded in the first place, right? 1. Someone had to send their kid to school without a coat. 2. That someone had to complain that the school hadn't "told them to."

Screed advisory:  The Obama/Kerry Pal/Israel peace push is no different than any of the other previous ones.  Pretty much the whole world wants to give the pals a .44 magnum so they can point it at Israel's head and they want to put Israel's finger on the trigger so Israel can feel that they are in charge of their own destiny.  Obama knows that he can get Israel to do most of everything that he wants them to do because of Israel's dependence on U.S. weaponry.  So he'll have Kerry lean as heavily as he can on Israel and then lean harder, because he hates Israel and he thinks muslims, and even jihadists are pretty ok.  Israel has been pushed to act against her own self interest several times in the past and fortunately for her, the pals have always managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

This time might be different though.  Even in the midst of his hatred for Israel, Obama is weak, but he's also an egotist.  This is a battle he thinks he can win and he thinks that there is no limit to how far he can push Israel.

But there is a limit and there is a real danger that he'll push too far and force Israel to take actions that she'll have no choice but to take.

That's another reason for why Obama is not only weak and incompetent, but also a very real danger to most of the world.

I now understand why ppl are desperate for the free tickets every year. John Rhys Davies (Gimli, Sallah) narrated the story of Dickens creating A Christmas Carol, and then portrayed Father Christmas. With that gorgeous voice of his was amazing. The guest soprano was fabulous too. The concert will be broadcast on TV next year, is going to be worth a look.

344 Posted by: Meremortal, throw your paper at January 03, 2014 01:10 PM (1Y+hH) Thanks so much for the suggestion, I appreciate that. I will look it up. My son is very interested in the Shroud of Turin and has sort of exhausted me with questions about it. Fortunately, I knew about from previous readings at http://shroud.com/. The website is by a Jewish guy who thinks it really is the burial shroud of Jesus. he hasn't become a Christian but he doesn't think it's a hoax.

345 Dude, you want stories? I'll be glad to relate them on his behalf with all the trimmings and "there I was!" stuff. Posted by: tangonine at January 03, 2014 01:05 PM (x3YFz) Actually, was that the delivery system in 2003? I try to pay attention to time and what it was at that time. Today they show an actual aircraft mounted bomb. But I do remeber stories of the Loadmasters pushing them out. If you want to write up a step by step of how that went down, complete with descriptions, associated conversation and even some flippant humor, (we were famous for that on the flight deck of the carrier) I will be very happy to have it and use it.

349 Posted by: Meremortal, throw your paper at January 03, 2014 01:14 PM (1Y+hH) I have never been there but I understand it is beautiful. I have been to the National Shrine of Padre Pio in PA which is a couple of hours away from where I live and that is very interesting too-which I never would have known about either if this guy hadn't come and helped out at our food pantry..

351 Saint Barbara is patron saint of artillerymen.
St Geroge, patron of armorers.
St Michael the Archangel, archers.
St Gabriel Possenti, handgunners.

There's a little slack and overlap, and those are off the top of the head.
Someone who Knows Their Saints could certainly come up with more.
Certainement, long and cross bows must have different ones.
Nouveaux-pacifists always act so shocked, don't they?

355 Speaking of TV, my wife watches HGTV compulsively while cooking dinner, and I usually go into another room to read the paper, surf, etc.  Last night I started watching the program with the chick that does all the renovations.  I don't think she requires any renovations, especially when she wears thosae low-cut sweaters, but I would be willing to make sure IYKWIMAITYD.

356 Fenelon.. re the Shroud of Turin, FWIW, you and-or your son might be interested in this: http://polination.wordpress.com/2013/12/31/heaven-is-for-real/ Scroll down for the painting of Jesus as envisioned by the girl Akiane, next to a painting by a nun based on the Shroud. (The nun's painting seems a bit closer of a match than the from-the-Shroud image I had earlier used to compare with Akiane's painting. My rambling blather: http://mindfulwebworks.com/best-of-spirits/appearance-of-jesus )
