Obama Is Getting A Pass On Global Warming Fibs
— Gabriel Malor

Yesterday, the media went wild for the release of a new global warming report suggesting that climate change is here and it's causing extreme weather events. The broadcast newscasts devoted a combined 10 minutes to the issue. ABC World News led with it and the other two had it second in their newscasts.

Among President Obama's statements about climate change that were broadcast on ABC was this curious claim: "We also have a chance to turn back these rising temperatures if we take some bold actions now."

This caught my eye, because not even global warming believers think warming is reversible. Here's NPR, for example:

Turning off the carbon dioxide emissions won't stop global warming.

"People have imagined that if we stopped emitting carbon dioxide that the climate would go back to normal in 100 years or 200 years. What we're showing here is that's not right. It's essentially an irreversible change that will last for more than a thousand years."

That report is from five years ago, by the way. So this isn't new. The scientists who fret about warming don't talk about reversing anything, but that isn't stopping Obama from trying to con Americans into supporting his prosperity-destroying environmental policies.

The NPR report is not an outlier. Here's the much-lauded lefty site Think Progress, with a piece last year on "The Dangerous Myth That Climate Change Is Reversible":

We’d have to drop total global emissions to zero now and for the rest of the century just to lower concentrations enough to stop temperatures from rising. Again, even in this implausible scenario, we still aren’t talking about reversing climate change, just stopping it — or, more technically, stopping the temperature rise.

So even folks who fear global warming don't think the U.S. can do anything to stop it. For that matter, even EPA chief Gina McCarthy testified that it is "unlikely" that EPA regulation will have a meaningful impact on climate change.

Claiming that global warming is reversible is the carrot to the warmists' stick. But it's just not true according to their own scientists. They say that warming is here to stay and that it's going to get worse. Obama should not be given a free pass saying otherwise to justify his policy preferences.

In response to the hype and hysteria the public (as polls have shown) doesn't see global whatever as a problem.  How does that get changed?  All of proclomations of doom haven't worked, how much more hype can be done to move the public to support actions to "deal with" global whatever?

It is almost as if every crisis that is pushed by some interest group has a 'sell by' date stamped on it; if the public cannot be convinced about teh crisis by that date, they never will be convinced (mostly because there will be another crisis coming along to compete for attention.)

Seems to me that ANY shooting death of a 13 year old should be tragic enough, and I don't mean to minimize his death. By all accounts he was a good kid. But why do we have to feel very, very, extra special sad because he was Arabic? Why should we feel extra special bad about ANY death because of the race, color, creed or national origin of the victim? Death is death. A 13 year old getting killed over an I-Phone should be plenty sad enough.

128 I'm not sure I follow though. Let's go ahead and buy into their theory of global warming for just a moment. It's caused by CO2, which prevents the sun's excess energy from radiating from earth into space. Now if we turned off CO2 production immediately, waived a magic wand, in theory that CO2 would eventually be fixed into plant sugars and the cycle would stop. So their own system seems wildly inconsistent. Unless they're trying to say "well we're already over the falls, it's so much CO2 it'd take millennia to fix into plants." Which I guess is a possible claim (given again the generous assumptions we've granted them) but that creates another problem: If that much CO2 has had what is admittedly a miniscule effect, then why be concerned?

228 If mankind were to intentionally attempt to change the temperature of the Earth by two degrees we would not be able to do it. The atmosphere is too large and there is not enough oil in the planet to warm it. Think about how much it costs to raise the temperature of your house during the winter. Your house is tiny compared to your share of the atmosphere.

Easy.  Warmer than the continental ice sheets that chased the Neanderthals south and made us interbreed with those filthy proto-Scandis.

Cooler than the 8th century warming that allowed the Scandis to Viking their way all the way to North America by 1,000 AD.

Warmer than the 14th century cooling that chased the Scandis out of Vinland and Greenland.

Kind of like today would be good.  This is a Goldilocks day in the Northeast.

Stupid (literacy aside) people today think he was a proponent of Socialism, because animal farm is how things "ought" to be, after all. /Resistance, futile, assimilated./ But if you're looking for "prophetic" go back another generation to H.G. 341 Rather than 24, I have been binge watching "Spiral" on Netflix. Since I don't speak French, I have to read the subtitles. It is an interesting show with lots of gory murders and an interesting view on how the French, at least some French, view their own country and its legal system. I would compare it to Chicago. The place is completely corrupt. Everybody knows it is completely corrupt and nobody can imagine any other kind of system. It is also interesting that judges participate in stake outs and it seems to be trivially easy to get wiretaps. The police also seem to smack around prisoners during interrogation in a manner that would probably get most US cops fired or would at least get any confession thrown out in court. On the other hand, although the French cops carry guns, they made a big deal about a female who had a collapsible baton that she used to defend herself when somebody attacked her. From time to time the lawyers will talk about the superiority of their legal system to the Anglo-Saxon model but it seems to be mainly a half remembered intellectual argument based on leftist premises of class and equality and they are all pretty cynical about it. The show has the same actor who plays the French window dresser in "Mr Selfridge" who looks kind of like Don Draper.

Actually, their reasoning is pretty simple. 1) They want to control the fuck out of people's lives (and kill a couple billion poor brown foreign people and/or white Americans for fun and profit) 2) They think people are stupid (and face it, they might not be wrong on this). These things lead to 3) Make up a bunch of shit that sounds scary so stupid people will cede control over their lives (and look the other way when they start killing a couple billion poor brown foreign people and white Americans for fun and profit)

398 Given that it was a college kid I'm guessing at least one of those accusations was a little too close to the bone for him. Probably more than one.

406 Posted by: HR at May 07, 2014 12:05 PM (/kI1Q) And for some, their motives aren't so esoteric, but their actions the same. They simply want money, and panic is good for (certain kinds) of business. Remember Y2K? Remember people talking about (with straight faces, no less) planes literally falling out of the sky? Why would they do that? Anyone with a modicum of knowledge knew that wasn't the issue- mainly the issue had to do with banking and financials (which made it a big deal- but not world-ending). $$$$$. People figured out that "Y2K Compliant" was a f*cking gold-mine. I'm willing to bet that for every Totalitarian Greenie, there's at least 1 who is simply trying to make a buck.

411 It was your pretty standard "Judgment is coming" sign. Included "Masturbators, Thieves, liars, homosexuals." For the record- Revelation 21:8 (Revised Standard Version) "But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the polluted, as for murderers, fornicators, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their lot shall be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death."

412 "Global warming" by whatever name concerns us all because American school children are being taught that they must sacrifice everything in life so as to "make a difference" and discover the cure -- even if it costs them 900 Billion Dollars -- no matter the cost, the burden is theirs now and for the duration of their lives on this "miserable" planet. A PBS documentary aired over this past weekend, wherein a Black Liberation "Theology" Marxist was training the (mostly white and evidently well to do) ELEMENTARY GRADE children (totally inappropriate age curriculum, truth/deceit aside) the art of "negotiation" being WAR, and they being the UN (role play real life). The children were trained to take no prisoners in their positions, demands and combat (arguments). They were taught that arguing was the answer; and that the loudest voice wins. Then the Teacher laid on the global warming assignment, at which point I couldn't take another second. THAT matters.

420 Obviously, the Warmistas cannot say that we will have a degree more warmth, which will give us an extended crop growing area and more crops. No, they have to convince the sheep to stay in the fold by linking every bad thing that happens to global warming. The usual warming causes more tornadoes, unless, of course, there are fewer tornadoes, but that is caused by warming, too. Not enough snow? GW. Too much snow? GW. You get the point. Warmistas won't be happy until us peasants are removed from the planet.

422 I'm still waiting for these AGW douchebags to explain to me how a gas (CO2) that makes up all of 0.04% (that's four one hundredths of one percent) of the Earth's atmosphere can make a difference in any way, shape or form to anything, except perhaps photosynthesis.

424 407 AllanG Y2K was not bullshit for control systems. A couple of anecdotes about systems that were tested over a weekend before that New Year turned up some interesting and unexpected failure modes in things like security systems that locked all the doors and wouldn't let anybody out of the building or ocean navigation and platform stability systems that just froze up and stopped working. When you are dealing with automated control systems that can kill people if they fail, I think it is better to err on the side of caution, although you are entitled to your own uninformed opinion on that matter as long as you are prepared to accept the moral, civil and criminal consequences of that belief.

426 Posted by: AllenG (DedicatedTenther) Ah, F It. at May 07, 2014 12:11 PM (PYAXX) Most probably. But I don't see in the bible where it says stand on a corner and say "you're going to hell." IIRC, Paul says pretty much the opposite, that we're to lead by example and call others to Christ. And Jesus pointed out none of us are without sin. As a practical matter I find the sign dude's approach to be...lacking. He's within his rights though to do it. I'd probably shrug my shoulders and move on.

427 310 I l think that whatever Krystal Ball looks like-I'd still be embarrassed later that I had slept with a dope who knows so little about George Orwell and his writing that she thinks "Animal Farm" is a critique-not of Stalin and communism-but of capitalism. My son read "Animal Farm" when he was 12. Even he knew it wasn't a critique of capitalism. She has some equally dim witted remarks available on the internet about other issues including child rearing.

What makes you think her audience has read Animal Farm or understood it? Most of her viewers think she's smart.

428 FAQ 8.1 (continued) Currently, water vapour has the largest greenhouse effect in the EarthÂ’s atmosphere. However, other greenhouse gases, primarily CO2, are necessary to sustain the presence of water vapour in the atmosphere. Indeed, if these other gases were removed from the atmosphere, its temperature would drop sufficiently to induce a decrease of water vapour, leading to a runaway drop of the greenhouse effect that would plunge the Earth into a frozen state.
