Intermittent internet all day so this ONT is about all I can burst out while the connection is still up.
Now the whole parable and purpose of these last pages, and indeed of all these pages, is this: to assert that we must instantly begin all over again, and begin at the other end. I begin with a little girl's hair. That I know is a good thing at any rate. Whatever else is evil, the pride of a good mother in the beauty of her daughter is good. It is one of those adamantine tendernesses which are the touchstones of every age and race. If other things are against it, other things must go down. If landlords and laws and sciences are against it, landlords and laws and sciences must go down. With the red hair of one she-urchin in the gutter I will set fire to all modern civilization.
-- G. K. Chesterton, "What's Wrong with the World"
Unretouched photos from her Vogue shoot versus what got published. Actually not that much fiddling by industry standards but a reminder that most magazine photos these days are a lie in some form or another.

Could be worse. Mrs. Chronda roped me into watching some mountain man reality show on the National Geographic Channel after that car auction the other day.
In one show, he was eating insect eggs out of elk poo because he was desperate for protein.
In the next show, he is battling an intestinal parasite.
Hmm. Coincidence?

President Barack Obama said that racial tensions may have softened his popularity among white voters within the last two years, according to a story posted on the New Yorker magazineÂ’s website today.
“There’s no doubt that there’s some folks who just really
dislike me because they donÂ’t like the idea of a black
president,” Obama said in the article by David Remnick,
appearing in the magazineÂ’s Jan. 27 edition.
It couldn't be the shitty job he's doing it and millions losing their insurance plans must be because of race. And it anyone is increasing racial tensions it's you and your flunkies. Fuck you Barry

Well *her* she's the active duty troop not me...
an old wives' tale says if you ever get all the boxes unpacked the S-1/G-1 gods and goddesses blow up your reality and you get a new assignment and immediately have to repack...
It does seem prevalent , but I am thinking it is coincidence more than causation.
Unpacking seems to depress me more and more each time we do it...and I never enjoyed it. ~18-21 more months here probably.

c) grant amnesty to millions of illegals that need a translator to fill out their unemployment claims.

Sonny is also well remembered as the frightening thug who gets shot by Eddie Murphy in the climax of '48 Hours.'
Shane Black wrote a ton of action movies back when, to the point that Spy Magazine once featured a Shane Black Automatic Screenplay generator. Lethal Weapon is the biggest.

I was happy to see Tammy here & neglected to say Hi to you guys.
I have been working too late to be in the ONT last week. I am seriously considering going on LTD. I have lived on painkiller since March 4, 1999. I get weaker & worse every year. I am going to wait until late March to make a final decision.
My quadriplegic brother is having a hard time with SSDI but I have paid into our group plan at work, before taxes.
IÂ’m sick of work & sick of being in pain.

This is not ancient Rome, where the emperor played Calvinball with the succession. The succession to the throne is governed by statute, and by law descends through the children of the reigning monarch, in order of birth (assuming eligibility based on religion, see next point). Also, I believe that the monarch has to be in communion with the Church of England and cannot be married to a Roman Catholic, so no secret muslim converts or Papists are allowed.

You will have to forgive me for responding to the comment the way you wrote it, as opposed to the way you meant it. What you want in your sentence is the conditional mood, which the verb "to wish" (even in all caps) does not express by itself. "Wish she had" implies that she can, but didn't. "Wish that she could have" explains that she cannot.

I've never been a "big questions" guy. Cuomo's comments won't move the needle a bit. Remington, ole Big Green, will remain in New York. Nothing will change.

While I was internetless today, I added an x-axis DRO to my mill with a friend's help. Next will be the y and z-axis once I make a bracket for them. So far in my testing it makes it *a lot* easier to cut exact dimensions.

making things. My next project will be mounting a cheap Harbor Freight
Dremel ripoff onto a moderately priced CNC engraving machine. That will
enable me to use cheap Dremel tooling instead of 4mm shafted
micro-mills. I also finally unpacked my mini-mill and will be cleaning
it and tuning it up over the next few days.
Posted by: cthulhu at January 20, 2014 12:35 AM (T1005)
Being a DIY guy myself, I'm interested - what are you up to with that setup?
Posted by: StPatrick_TN at January 20, 2014 12:41 AM (un8zR)
Which setup? The mini-mill or the micro CNC?
The mini-mill is an outgrowth of researching 3D printers a year-and-some ago, and finding that they have significant limitations....but illustrate how far CNC has come (and how far plastic-squirting needs to go). The big problem with actually implementing CNC in real life is looking like not the electronics, steppers, lead screws, or software.....but, rather, brackets. Lots and lots of brackets. Pieces of metal that hold your motors and lead screws, and interface to real-world objects. So the plan is to piecemeal CNC the mini-mill by using it manually to make brackets. Oh, it's a HF http://tinyurl.com/28s88pp -- which is really a Sieg X2. Being a Sieg, it's coated in that horrible red greasy gel that I suspect is made of rendered political prisoners. It cleans off with kerosene, but -- being California -- you're supposed to treat used kerosene as toxic waste and hire people in space suits to remove it. [I'm going to WalMart to buy a tiki torch].
The micro-CNC is one of these -- http://tinyurl.com/nybl5hu -- and, good lord, I think I paid well less than half of that price!!!! Like, maybe, a third.
Anyway, let me continue with my jaw off the floor. The micro-CNC is a "proof-of-concept" dealio on the one hand, and on the other can be used to make very intricate small pieces. As an example, I'm thinking of making a Cthulhu-themed door-knocker. The problem I have with it is that the bits are like $22/ea, and if you're screwing around with 'em and using them on odd materials, you're going to be breaking/blunting them by the truckload (I've already melted one into acrylic). Whereas Dremel bits (1/8" shank) are cheaper than dirt.

Do yourself a favor and get familiar with G-code -- it's X-Y-Z plotting with glosses like movement speed and tool speed -- because you can use it to get a feel for how well your software is adapting what you want. For example, if you're getting a string of G1X1Y1Z1, G1X2Y1Z1, G1X3Y1Z1, G1X4Y1Z1 instead of G1X1Y1Z1, G1X4....then things aren't very efficient and you can end up with "the rhythm of the tool" being off. It's not so bad with mills, but can really suck on squirters.

In Pasadena, on days like that, they say the city forgot to make the rent payment on the mountains.
Thing is, Pasadena had hazy days like that a century ago, before there were many cars or serious industrial issues in LA County. There are even some journals of the early Spanish explorers commenting on the haze over the valleys. Smog made it worse but getting rid of it entirely would be a major feat of climate engineering.
I don't know if they can make that claim for Beijing.

It illustrates all-too-well that the EPA and the SCAQMD have long-since achieved the goals they were set up to do, and have no remaining purpose other than just dicking people around. "We'll micromanage people's lives until the air is more pristine than when there were just plants."
