Truth: The Latest Weapon of the Patriarchy

Because the true facts about Wendy Davis' life are just another front in the War on Women and she's not going to take any more mansplaining attacks from her opponent, Greg Abbot, or anyone else.

We're not surprised by Greg Abbott's [her Texas governorship opponent] campaign attacks on the personal story of my life as a single mother who worked hard to get ahead. But they won't work, because my story is the story of millions of Texas women who know the strength it takes when you're young, alone and a mother. I've always been open about my life not because my story is unique, but because it isn't.

The truth is that at age 19, I was a teenage mother living alone with my daughter in a trailer and struggling to keep us afloat on my way to a divorce. And I knew then that I was going to have to work my way up and out of that life if I was going to give my daughter a better life and a better future and that's what I've done. I am proud of where I came from and I am proud of what I've been able to achieve through hard work and perseverance. And I guarantee you that anyone who tries to say otherwise hasn't walked a day in my shoes."

Here is a picture of Greg Abbot. He hasn't walked a day in her shoes  - or at all since a tree fell on him 30 years ago, paralyzing him and requiring almost a year in rehab. Clearly he knows nothing of suffering.

But Wendy "Storyteller" Davis is doubling down:

Wendy-Davis-Twitter-Stream-Jan-21-2014

And Stephen Green has a diabolical suggestion for Abbot:

Quote of the Day

Obama's finest speeches do not excite. They do not inform. They don't even really inspire. They elevate. They enmesh you in a grander moment, as if history has stopped flowing passively by, and, just for an instant, contracted around you, made you aware of its presence, and your role in it. He is not the Word made flesh, but the triumph of word over flesh, over color, over despair. The other great leaders I've heard guide us towards a better politics, but Obama is, at his best, able to call us back to our highest selves, to the place where America exists as a glittering ideal, and where we, its honored inhabitants, seem capable of achieving it, and thus of sharing in its meaning and transcendence.

-- Ezra Klein, January of 2008

In any normal workplace this paragraph alone would have been sufficient cause for a drug test and maybe some counseling.

The Unbearable Lightness of Hillary Clinton's Achievements

When you ask her diehard supporters what she did as secretary of state they start with, "She travelled a million miles! More than any secretary of state."

Put aside the fact that the "more than any secretary of state" part isn't actually true - Condi Rice flew more. When you ask, "Okay, what did she get for it?" you get a blank stare or you get some stuff about championing women's rights. Two people have told me she did good work in Myanmar, but I've never really gotten to the bottom of that. I suppose I could look it up, but at the end of the day we're still talking about Myanmar, which is not the locus of America's most pressing international problems. ("That's right, because Hillary prevented the Myanmarese hegemony," someone at MSNBC just shrieked. "She stopped it cold.") While the Wikipedia page on her tenure doesn't even mention Myanmar, it does mention her championing of better cook stoves in the Third World. That's good. And so is improving the plight of women in various countries where their status ranges between "Slightly More Important than the Village Mule" to "So Incredibly Delicate We Must Keep Them Covered with Burlap Sacks All Day Long Even Though It's Like 115 Degrees in the Shade Today."

But when I take out my handy pocket realpolitik calculator, I just can't make all that add up to much. Particularly when you compare it with our worsening problems in the Middle East, Asia (minus Myanmar!), Europe, Russia, and South America. Those problems are by no means all her fault (nor are they all Obama's fault). But Clinton was the second most important foreign-policy official. If you were, say, the assistant coach of the 1999 Cleveland Browns or the deputy spokesman for Baghdad Bob during the lead-up to the Iraq War, you might - just might - want to highlight other things on your résumé. So it is with Clinton. As our chief diplomat, she presided over a long slide into foreign-policy suckitude. On her watch, America's standing got worse every place it matters (except Myanmar!), despite all of those sales calls.

And that leaves out the <sarcasm> little </sarcasm> issue of Benghazi. The Senate Intelligence Committee report is at once a fascinating and utterly banal artifact of Washington. It identifies a huge mistake. It denounces said mistake. It concludes that the mistake could have been prevented. But nobody is responsible for the mistake. The bureaucracy did it!

Okay, you ask, who was in charge of that bureaucracy?

Shut up, they explain.

Why Bubba Didn't Run in 1988

Because talky bitchez and Gary Hart.

After all, with just one exception, a Clinton has always tried for public office whenever a tantalizing opportunity presented itself. The rule-breaker was Bill's aborted run for president in the 1988 cycle. On the eve of his expected candidacy announcement in July 1987, with the national press gathering in Little Rock, his long-suffering chief of staff, Betsey Wright, she later told PBS, huddled with her boss and presented a list of women he was alleged to have been "seeing." After a number of responses along the lines of "she'll never talk," Clinton belatedly awakened to the reality that he could self-destruct in the post-Gary Hart world-Hart had been forced out of the Democrats' presidency sweepstakes just a couple of months earlier following allegations of adultery. The next day, Clinton declined to run, stunning the news media with the unconvincing excuse that he had decided to spend more time with his family.

"It Makes Economic Sense for a Woman to Have More Than One Husband"

Writes Judith Warner in Time magazine. And judging by her sex dreams I think she's already got a candidate in mind for her second husband. Well good luck with that.

Gang Signs of the Intellectuals

The gestures you need to throw to convince people that you're a real thought leader. And possibly a member of the Chestertons or Van Buren Boyz.

To perform "The Critical Whirl," simply circle your hand counterclockwise in a small but rapid motion towards the audience. "Accelerate and repeat until idea unpacked," the website tells us. It's one of the more basic maneuvers, suitable for both formal academic settings and conversations about the means of production over a glass of wine.

And no I don't think this article is intentional satire either.

The Gun Trucks of Vietnam

In the event of an ambush, their role was to drive into the kill zone during the first few minutes of the attack, and saturate the attackers with their firepower.

Early designs proved flawed, as the sandbag protections quickly became waterlogged in the frequent rains, weighing down the whole vehicle. They were later replaced with ad hoc steel armor plating, salvaged from scrap yards.

The crew consisted of a driver, two gunners, a non-commissioned officer, and sometimes a grenadier armed with an M79 grenade launcher.

On November 24, 1967, during an engagement in "Ambush Alley", a group of gun trucks managed to thwart an ambush. The convoy lost six transport trucks and four gun trucks damaged or destroyed, and several drivers were killed and wounded, but the Viet Cong lost 41 KIA and were forced to withdraw. ...

In all, an estimated 300 to 400 trucks were transformed in this way.

How about giving our children any life at all? Or, oh, I dunno, not dumping your own children, because you've decided you have better things to do, than raise them? Isn't raising children a big part of giving them a better future? I hate feminists. By the way, Dr. Drew had a program about narcissists, particularly celebrity narcissists. Unfortunately, as stupid as half of the voters of this country are, they may be right. Unless or until the shit really hits the fan with Obamacare. I had a conversation with someone whose wife has a teachers' union cadillac health insurance plan today. They're getting concerned about having to pay taxes on it. He also has a friend who is a business owner who is concerned about the consequences of Obamacare on businesses. All these liberal assholes are going to show their true colors if they take an economic hit from TFG. They seemed to think it would only be mean, nasty republicans who would pay the price.

Regardless of whether or not you really believe Cuomo's retraction or other similar statements, I consider it *great news* that these public figures/entities are today often forced to offer them. 20 years ago before there was any sort of relatively organized network of conservatives on the web and "new media" (in fact there was barely a "new media" at all then), people like Cuomo could make these kinds of boneheaded pronouncements and get away with it without ever having to even explain themselves. Thank God those days are long gone.

It is absolultely hilarious that YET AGAIN, the insane lefties create a mannequin, a Barbie this time, that is every single thing they hate about a certain person...Sarah Palin.

David is a fraud, Obama is a fraud. Both have lives made out of lies.

They call both Palin and Bush frauds.

But they aren't.

Davis is nothing, a lightweight, so is the Cutey Pie, a dimbulb.

But yet, again, Palin/Bush...they call them morons, they aren't.

Manipulating media, propped up by illicit forces beyond our control.

Yep, both of the statues to stupidity.

But not Palin/Bush actually.

The entire leftist movement/mindset/philosohpy is deeply rooted in madness and weird bizarre fantasies and delusion, soaked in weird sexual overtones, and dreams of power.

That the idiots are running the country is kinda scary.

I mean, at least the Obama campaign for the most part only hinted at directly calling its opponents racist, and it mostly seemed to have third-party surrogates and talking heads do the work. But Davis is out there throwing up a shitstorm herself primarily in the hopes of getting into the heads of the LIVs with the core message "Pretty lady says sleazy old white Republicans are being downright mean and nasty!" And given that BO got reelected, I'm afraid we're at a point where this is basically all that's required to form a sympathy groundswell.

Gun trucks were great for ground engagement, but the grandaddy of all aerial attack vehicles was the famous Boeing Vertol CH-47 Guns-Go-Go!

These bitchin' machines weren't designed as gun platforms, but as cargo delivery vehicles. Boeing converted four into this gunship configuration for use on Combat Assault's (CA's) and they were effective.

Why were they not mainstreamed?  The biggest problem was the massive amount of vibration created by multiple 50-calibur weapons used without large shock absorbing devices, therefore creating structural defects.

Absent Guns-a-Go-Go, the standard CA helicopter gunship platform remained the Bell UH-1C, and equipped with GE mini-guns (Gatlin) and 48  tube rocket pods on either side, she was a formidable platform.

Another popular configuration was the UH-1C Frog.  She was equipped with a  40MM auto fire grenade launcher on the nose and mini's on the pylons each side.  Another bitchin' ride that smoked a lot of ass.

223 "Gun trucks. A lesson we had to learn all over again in Iraq."

And a lesson the US had not previously learned, but should have learned from others if the services were in the habit of paying closer attention, was the one about V-hull mine protected vehicles.

Themselves based on hard empirical lessons learned by Rhodesia in the 1970s and South Africa in the 1980s.

Just as with those two countries previously, when the US went into Iraq, a huge toll was taken until suddenly everyone fnally said, "Oh shit! Mines! Must have mine protected vehicles!"

And then of course the vehicles were rushed into production as hasty adaptations instead of buying proven designs elsewhere. Which led to endless problems with inadequate automotive components, and guaranteed that the resulting purchases would be useless white elephants over the longer term. As in fact they are, and the Pentagon are already fobbing the things off on podunk police departments Stateside who will never encounter a mine, but who think it looks cool.

Another triumph of American defense procurement.

253 And then of course the vehicles were rushed into production as hasty adaptations instead of buying proven designs elsewhere.

A brigade of the 101st relieved my NG unit in OIF III.  My Regiment was the the first (or one of the first) to begin putting "Hillbilly" armor on the Humvees, and had the guy that raised hell about it that made national news.

The 101st guys, who had been there during the invasion, refused to listen to anything the "dumb" National Guard guys told them since they had already "been there, done that."  Except they hadn't, since they did not face IEDs during the invasion.  The first thing they did was take the uparmored doors off the Humvees and proceed to get blown to pieces by IEDs.  That continued for about a month until they wised up.

272 There was a great segment, about an hour and a half long I believe, on C-SPAN this past weekend about author H.W. Brands. He's a history professor at University of Texas at Austin, and has written a number of presidential bios. He was specifically talking this time about Andrew Jackson. Now *there* was a president who was also a really tough guy. Jackson would probably be completely unelectable in today's age.

I also loved what Brands said when someone asked him what his biases were, and especially what he told his students about them. He said, and I'm trying to quote him somewhat accurately here:

"When my students ask me what party I belong to, I always tell them I'm a member of the Contrarian Party. If you are a bleeding heart liberal, I am the rock-ribbed conservative. And if you are the Tea Party enthusiast, I am the Occupy rabble rouser. If you don't want your preconceived notions about society challenged, don't go to college."

I wanted to stand up and applaud.

394 3 weeks. Long enough to begin to tire of any boobs no matter how great while not taking any opinion seriously. That said, while not taking a short affair too seriously, I am picky about certain movie actors (won't see anything with Sean Penn or Susan Sarandon in it) or certain products (Levi 's or Heinz). Why should they get my money when there are other choices? Most of the left is simply soft-headed and I don't hold that against them (Matt Damon comes to mind) and occasionally one has a revelation (Ben Affleck). On the other hand, Oliver Stone, Michael Moore, et al, want to not only destroy my way of life but prevent the realization of everything I work toward.

518 493 If I can get in on the question: 1775? There are some parallels because of a disinterested ruler imposing rules upon a distant populace. Not the same becauseI think there are a lot more pro-ruler people than there were then. Plus the ruler has a much more vested interested in clamping down on the ruled. Also lack of allies. 479? Not enough external existential threats. These would probably improve OUR situation... sort of. Not to mention our military is not irrelevant, yet. 1933? Not yet. National Socialism was so successful because of the disaster of what had been tried to be imposed before. Plus we still have a very strong opposition. 1862? Probably the closest of the ones you mentioned. Our side holds most of the military mind and manpower. A fight between centralized and limited, distributed government. The big but is the slavery issue, and it is a big but. I think one of the closer ones is 1917 between the Whites and the Reds in the Soviet Union. I hope not but things are getting chaotic enough and people are not following the rules set down to prevent things from getting out of hand. President Obama may seem bad enough but he is showing that enough people do not believe in the fundamental strictures that our nation was built on that things could get much much worse. Sorry for the length.

Like... almost every other Revolution started during times when Food Prices Spiked.... not so with either the American Revolution, or the Civil War. The US Revolutionary war ended up with the same guys in charge, who started it... something which almost never happens in History... But we are going the way of most Democracies... where loose fiscal Policy and foreign Adventurism destroys the Economy... The problem is that our way of life is very fragile... so even a minor disruption in food, water, or power, will cause HUGE problems... I think we are in unchartered Waters.....

Things seem like they are moving fast but they are moving very slow. If we had gone from the 1950's to now at once, there would have been hell to pay almost immediately. As I noted on an earlier thread, the leftists do not understand that when they destroy the rule of law and replace it with the rule of men, that is not in their long-term best interest. Because the people who come out (relatively) on top are the strong and well-armed, not the pajamaboys with COEXIST bumper stickers, who are useless when the stuff hits the fan. The red states have food, energy, and millions of people who have weapons and know how to use them. The blue states have people who know how to riot and steal. We need to promote the Constitution and the rule of law, before it is too late.

People today have no grasp of how bad history can get because they have been insulated from it. They think they are different. They are idiots.

And they usually do not end well. America has been very a-historical throughout it's lifetime. A revolution that stopped and did not keep going through several iterations before stopping. A bloody civil war that did NOT end up tearing the country apart. Very, very few uprisings and rebellions- and those almost all within the first 100 years.

People today have no grasp of how bad history can get because they have been insulated from it. They think they are different. They are idiots.

Posted by: Aetius451AD at January 22, 2014 12:52 AM (TGgNi)

This one is interesting because blue states aren't really blue -- they're overcolonized by blue cities within a red countryside -- http://tinyurl.com/bq9avfb -- check out Illinois, California, Oregon.... and then go ask someone in rural Illinois what they think about "those Chicago people".

In times past, this was a successful model for empires because the peasants were poor farmers and all the people with arms who understood phalanxes were in the cities. I would argue that more military bases are in red areas today, and gun control has meant that only gangbangers have guns in cities, but they're widespread in the country.

616 609 It is a very odd situation. The question is, what would it look like. We are an odd society. Very socially isolated compared to what came before but exponentially more dependent on one another. If there really were a massive disruption and food and fuel could not be delivered to the cities, it would turn apocalyptic very quickly. Even most of those of us in more rural areas do not even have a small garden to help feed ourselves. Those who hunt are in a better situation, sure. I fear no election will right this ship and that maybe I was just too damn stiff-necked in my principals to jump on the wagon thait I've been pulling. Too old to change now, I'll do what I can when the time comes - this snake hasn't been defanged. We were warned but we didn't prepare. Hell. We didn't believe. Comparisons to Rome or our Revolution or Civil War or the Russian revolution are apt enough but I'm more mindful of the O.T. Israelites. Warned again and again. So we can prepare for what's sometimes called the burning times here but we better start thinking with a long view toward the (IMHO) the possibility that it may be some generations before the will for freedom reasserts. Yeah....I could have done without the color component to the cube -- it's really more "tribal". I used to work in a place whose factory floor was roughly 30% Vietnamese, 30% Hispanic, 30% Bosnian, and 10% everyone else -- and, while they worked together well (evidently, it is difficult to get a good run of cursing going in Vietnamese, so they'd all swear in Bosnian), the Hispanics were decidedly more cliquish. From my limited experience, though, I'd say that northern urban African-Americans were considerably more tribal than southern rural African-Americans of the same tinge. It's more about your separation from society than your pantone number.

But, after such a long digression that was thoroughly off-the-point....yeah, that's a decent overview. It's urban ids against rural egos with a lot of government superegos flopping around uselessly.

646 638 Again, I don't think it goes to hell all at once, uniformly, everywhere. I see the federal government going increasingly broke and having to prioritize, maybe even starting before TFG leaves office. The most vulnerable places to the necessary spending cuts will be the cities in blue states, and there will be urban unrest. We in the red states will be just fine, but we need to be prepared to take in family members and other refugees who will leave the hellholes for good for what we have to offer. The red counties in the blue states will be closer to the action, so to speak, and folks who live there might find themselves having to band together for self-defense and mutual protection. In the end, there will be a restructuring to a smaller federal government within recognized Constitutional boundaries (and Levin's Constitutional convention may be the vehicle through which it's done). This will all play out over a generation, and it's going to be ugly.

If something is rotten to the core you either try to stave of anything that might blow over your house of straw, or you force revolutionary change. Trying to "reform" the system will lead to ruin. I fear that this is the route that will be taken here, with all the blame pushed on the good people who tried for honest reform by those who had ultimately caused the problem. The best we can hope for, perhaps, is a Remnant. Perhaps started afresh, the new American Beauty Rose will again be able to grow in all its splendorÂ… provided that the void in the interim is not filled by foreign influenceÂ…

657 648 638 Again, I don't think it goes to hell all at once, uniformly, everywhere.

My suspicion is that it'll start going sideways when people realize that the fourth section of the 14th amendment -- which begins: "The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned." -- (a) means something entirely different from what they think it does, and (b) has as much actual value as King Canute's command of the tides -- http://tinyurl.com/y98we7m .

667 Akula51 - I pray you're right. I think of how certain provisions of the ACA and Dodd/Frank are included just to make repeal close to impossible, the ongoing purge of many of our best generals and the trends in education (now including the library without books) and I'm struck with the suspicion that the enemy has succeeded in its efforts to stymy future opposition. When religion is gone how can you express the idea of an "inalienable right"? What power is greater than the secular authority that provides all that the individual can need or desire? Envy was promoted as a virtue. Come to think of it, all 7 deadly sins are now accepted or encouraged.

So, on a tangent from music....."Velvet Green", by Jethro Tull, has always had an odd catch to me. About 2/3 of the song is a straightforward randy young lad, appreciative of female beauty and companionship.....but there's a two-line section that is set apart in the arrangement that is twisted and dark: "One dusky half-hour's ride up to the north. There lies your reputation and all that you're worth." This is echoed, later, by another disturbing couplet: "And the ragged dawn breaks on your battle scars. As you walk home cold and alone upon velvet green."

The rest of the song is playful and flirtatious, but those two couplets have an outsized impact by being so grotesque. In particular, the phrase, "all that you're worth" seems particularly egregious -- while the second couplet describes post-coital abandonment, characterization of someone as solely a one-time event is nastily dehumanizing.

677 personally I think all the people dancing on abortion barbie's grave are in for a shock.  women who vote left are not going to be bothered by the fact that she is a gold-digging shit of a person who pretends to be an upright feminist.

It will probably actually gain her support because she is just being shown to actually represent them more than they previously thought.  If they would vote for Hillary (and they will) there is no end to the degree that they will delude themselves into thinking that "riding my way on the back of a man" is equal to "I earned it myself."

Protester:  "Do you know how many animals had to die to make that coat?"

Margo Brofman:  "Do you know how many animals I had to fuck to get this coat?"

Walked into a shitstorm, myself, with the BH tonight. I consider forcing a woman to bear a fetus to term to be unacceptable slavery....while lamenting the loss of a potential life. I also consider mandatory child support from an unwilling parent to be slavery -- if a father clearly says "no" before viability, there should be no continuing liability for child support after birth.

So when I described Wendy Davis' ridiculous filibuster and subsequent meltdown, I had every expectation that the BH would laugh along. After all, the Texas law in question is meant to avoid Gosnells and viable babies discarded in linen closets.....but the BH went off on a WoW tirade straight out of the media handbook.

On my way out, I tried to point out that social-cons may question the basis of laws, but will faithfully execute the ones as written, whereas Progs invent justifications for actions and blow-off the language of statutes.....and got only limited agreement.

682 BTW: I really don't think what I just said is all that tinfoil hatty.  The city council revoked most of his executive powers and took them upon themselves.  I didn't notice any move to impeach (can you do that in the English Commonwealth?  Will the Queen allow it?).  Seriously there has to be a fail safe for removing an executive without a pedigree and they have chosen not to exercise that fail safe because it grants the Council more power to follow their current course of action.

I just know that I've got it reasonably square in my head....restrictions on abortion are womb-slavery, up to the point where another individual is involved....which can be fixed at the earliest point of external fetal viability 'cause if that ain't it, it's pretty damned close. Restrictions on fetal disavowal are straightforward slavery, and child support after birth should be just as noxious as forcing someone to bear an unwanted child to term.

687 I should point out that I tend to be pretty simplistic about things -- take, for instance, the Oregon baker who doesn't want to sell his cakes to gay weddings.....couldn't be easier -- if a cake is sitting on a shelf with a $35 price tag, and he refuses to sell....slammo! Whatever penalties he gets, he had coming......OTOH, if he had an ad about "create the cake of your dreams for $35", and he refused to do so.........then we're done here. Last I checked, there was a Constitutional provision regarding involuntary servitude, and it was against.

690 I wouldn't say I can extrapolate the Rob Ford thing to the U.S. Executive and Legislative branches directly.  I think a more direct analog is the executive departments.  The real federal govt. isn't the POTUS, the SCOTUS or the legislature.  The real fed. is the cabinet departments though the cabinet secretaries themselves are jokes.  The most powerful people in the country are the chiefs of staff in the major cabinet departments.

Those folks decide what is what and they aren't elected.  They span multiple administrations.  They know where the bodies are buried.  I was there and done that.

Posted by: bestie21 at January 22, 2014 01:31 AM (AzO5R)

691 it will bea long fight to change direction. even then... The problem as I see it is there is no political party which represents us. To change the direction of the Country will require likeminded individuals coming together to get things done. And I'm not talking the TEA Party. The TEA Party was a good start, but like any movement without a leader, it has been and will continue to be compromised by progressives running as 'TEA Party candidates'. What I had hoped for by now was some of the purged military brass speaking up, taking a stand for Freedom. Obviously that has not happened as they seem to love their pensions more than they love their Country. I honestly think the direction of the Country will change only when individuals start shooing IRS agents, TSA agents, any agents of They the Government. Only then will We the People be able to reassert ourselves, to govern ourselves using the fundamental foundation of a Constitutional Federal Representative Republic as handed down by the Founders. That is to say, only violence will change the direction of this Nation, to keep it from going further down the road to totalitarian Perdition. Not a pleasant thought at all.

My views on involuntary daddyhood are the same as cthulhu's. Take away compulsory child support and I'll stop opposing abortion. I still won't like it, but I'll stop opposing it. In that vein, sperm donors that had absolutely no expectation of doing anything but supplying genetic material should be completely exempt from any sort of involuntary daddyhood at all, but given the nature of the beast lately (I'm thinking specifically of the guy in, I think it was PA, who donated to a sperm bank and then was tracked down to pay child support) a guy would have to be an absolute drooling imbecile to make any sorts of genetic deposits these days anywhere outside the shower drains.
