One reason that relations between Congress and the House are so bad is that Obama and his staff simply aren't interested in talking to any members of Congress - much less working with them. Congress is simply of no use to Obama so he's ignoring that branch of government.
This comes from a damning assessment from veteran White House reporter Keith Koffler:
I covered both the Clinton and Bush White Houses. Routinely, with each of them, there was line of cars on the West Wing driveway belonging to members of some committee or faction of Congress that had dropped by to meet the president. If they wanted the gathering to remain below the radar, they "snuck in" the side door, and then the camera guys who were always in a position where they could see the entrance there told us about it.With Obama, almost never. Nothing. No meetings. If you ask around on Capitol Hill, no phone calls either. Obama, expostulating about the uncooperativeness of Republicans, does nothing to get them to cooperate. It's not in his character. And then he attacks them for his own paucity of results. He's like a high school football player who never comes to practice and then whines that he's warming the bench.
Unfortunately, Obama's temperament will now have serious consequences for the nation. We'll be in a constant state of Constitutional subversion for the next three years as Obama issues edicts and bullies the private sector into doing his bidding. At any point, with some particularly outlandish act, he can kick things up to a major Constitutional crisis. It's a sad thing to see.
How Harry Reid is Destroying the Senate
Meanwhile the Senate hasn't been doing its job for a few years now. And Sen. Jeff Sessions explains here how this dysfunction is the result of deliberate tactics employed by Harry Reid.
One of the tactics by which Majority Leader Reid has suppressed Senators' rights and blocked open debate has been a technique called "filling the tree." What this means, basically, is that when a bill comes to the floor, the Leader will use his right of first recognition to fill all of the available amendment slots on a bill and block any other Senator from offering amendments. One man stands in the way of his 99 colleagues. But, not alone really. His power exists only as long as his majority concurs and supports his actions. This prevents the body from working its will, it prevents legislation from being improved, and it prevents Senators from being held accountable by their votes on the great issues of the day. That is, of course, why it's done.
Our Majority Leader has used this tactic-filling the tree-80 times. To put this in perspective, the six previous Majority Leaders filled the tree 49 times-combined. Senator Reid has filled the tree on 30 more occasions than all of the six previous Majority Leaders did cumulatively over their tenures.
And then you have the fact that the Senate hasn't passed a budget in five years yet keeps authorizing spending through giant, mysterious and chaotic 'omnibus' bills.
The erosion of the Senate has also been front and center in the budgeting process. We are now in our fifth year without adopting a congressional budget resolution. Instead, taxpayer dollars are spent through a series of backroom deals and last-minute negotiations. Then we face a massive omnibus that is rushed to passage without amendment or meaningful review. The American people have no real ability to know what's in it or hold us, their elected representatives, accountable. This, of course, is the reason it is done this way. Now, the House and Senate are considering another catch-all omnibus spending bill-one that will spend more than a trillion dollars-with thousands of items of government spending crammed into a single legislative proposal. This bill will be sped through under threat of a government shutdown, with very little debate, and no ability to amend. It is another "pass it to find out what's in it" moment.
My staff and I have had less than 48 hours to digest this behemoth, but already we've found provisions that would not survive if considered under regular order.
...But under the tenure of Majority Leader Reid, the budgeting process has been totally mismanaged. We have ceased consideration of appropriations bills altogether, relying more and more on autopilot resolutions and catch-all behemoth spending packages. In fiscal year 2006, for example, every single appropriations bill was debated, amended, and passed in the Senate. In 2013, none were.
Murphy's Law: The Top Ten Bad Decisions of the 20th Century
As compiled by Strategy Page. And man were there some doozies.
5 - Germany declares war on the United States after Japan attacked the U.S. in December 1941. At that point Germany had Russia and Britain on the ropes. The Japanese attack brought America into the war, but only against Japan. German armies were stalled in front of Moscow and Hitler thought Japan needed a little nudge to attack Russia. This would tie down troops that would otherwise be sent against the Germans. But Japan had fought border battles with the Russians in 1939 and came off very poorly. Hitler had failed to note this. When Hitler declared war against America on December 11, 1941, Japan did nothing, and it took a while for Hitler to realize what happened to Germany when American entered World War I. Hitler has always belittled the Americans and did not realize his error until it was too late.
As Obama Retreats, Canada and Australia Step Up For Israel
Indeed, the most important aspect of Harper's speech was the explanation he gave for why Canada would stand by Israel. Having begun by stating plainly, "Canada supports Israel because it is right to do so," Prime Minister Harper went on to explain that "Israel is the only country in the Middle East, which has long anchored itself in the ideals of freedom, democracy and the rule of law."
And Australia calls the BDS and 'anti-Zionism' movements what they really are.
In contrast to the policies of her predecessor, [ Australian foreign minister] Julie Bishop has twice now ensured that Australia has been one of only a handful of countries at the United Nations to resist voting in support of motions demanding that Israel halt all settlement activity. In an interview during her recent visit to Israel Bishop stated that she thought the international community should refrain from calling settlements illegal, remarking, "I would like to see which international law has declared them illegal," and arguing, "I don't think it's helpful to prejudge the settlement issue if you're trying to get a negotiated solution. And by deeming the activity as a war crime, it's unlikely to engender a negotiated solution."
Foreign Minister Bishop has likewise been unwavering in her opposition to boycotts, seeing to it that funding from the Australian government does not reach organizations calling for them. Of the BDS movement Bishop exclaimed, "It's anti-Semitic. It identifies Israel out of all other nations as being worthy of a boycott, divestment and sanctions campaign? Hypocritical beyond belief."

Peter Freuchen: Candidate For the Real World's Most Interesting Man
Standing six feet seven inches, Freuchen was an arctic explorer, journalist, author, and anthropologist. He participated in several arctic journeys (including a 1000-mile dogsled trip across Greenland), starred in an Oscar-winning film, wrote more than a dozen books (novels and nonfiction, including his Famous Book of the Eskimos), had a peg leg (he lost his leg to frostbite in 1926; he amputated his gangrenous toes himself), was involved in the Danish resistance against Germany, was imprisoned and sentenced to death by the Nazis before escaping to Sweden, studied to be a doctor at university, his first wife was Inuit and his second was a Danish margarine heiress, became friends with Jean Harlow and Mae West, once escaped from a blizzard shelter by cutting his way out of it with a knife fashioned from his own feces, and, last but certainly not least, won $64,000 on The $64,000 Question.
Here he poses with his wife Dagmar Freuchen-Gale.

The 100 Riff History of Rock and Roll
Sadly the Captain and Tennille are calling it quits after 39 years of marriage. No reasons were given but it may involve health insurance.
According to the divorce docs, obtained by TMZ, there's special mention about health insurance coverage, and that seems relevant, because in 2009 Toni blogged that Daryl had been diagnosed with Parkinson's. In 2011 Toni updated the message, saying Daryl's tremors were so bad he was embarrassed to go out in public ... to restaurants, the movies, etc.
Here's what's unclear -- whether it's possible Toni really filed for health insurance reasons ... whether his coverage might be better if they were divorced.

As he should.
Congress fucked up. It passed on its responsibilities to "agencies". The "agencies" then created "regulations" which have the force of law.
As long as Congress considers itself irrelevant, it can hardly blame the President if he takes Congress at its word.

If the Republicans take the Senate in the fall, everything will be different!
Which is to say, we'll still be in a constant state of Constitutional subversion. But every crick up a holler in Mitch McConnell's state is going to have a billion dollar Federal dam on it. Surely we can all agree that's worth the fight.

Vidkun, not Vidmar, Quisling, I think?
And yes, you need two to tango for a constitutional crisis, and Congress (and the "opposition" party) have shown no interest in playing their role.
It's really stunning - and entirely in a disastrously bad way. Just take the non-recess recess appointments debacle. In any previous time, such a stunt would have had leaders of both parties in the Senate (jointly) in front of the cameras within the hour, ordering the president to stand down or face legislative and appointment Hell. The very genius of the Founders, in engineering basic human impulses into the structure of our government, such that power would remain divided and jealously guarded by each player, seems to have evaporated along with national dignity, sense, and seriousness.
For those with any sense of US governance history and Hill experience, the years since the advent of this ridiculous affirmative action non-entity in the Oval Office still seem like some bad dream. No budgets, no appropriations bills, no congressional response to any lawlessness from the executive branch.

"This comes from a damning assessment from veteran White House reporter Keith Koffler."
Yeah, well, here we go again. That's the pattern, isn't it? Some "veteran WH reporter" writes some "damning assessment" of Obama from time to time - he doesn't work with Republicans, he doesn't work with Democrats, he lets Jarrett run things, he doesn't talk to the press, his staffers are unprofessional and couldn't run a student common council meeting, he's always late, he doesn't know his ass from his elbow - and conservatives rejoice and say "Finally! The MSM is waking up! They realize they've been played for fools! Now they're going to start actually behaving like reporters instead of butt-kissers!"
They never do. If one "tough"article about Obama sees the light of day, they all feel they've done their duty for the next 6 months and go right back to kissing his butt. But they can now point to the tough article or the tough interview question and say "See, we're not biased!"

I'm kind of meh on that list of bad military decisions. The unrestricted submarine warfare was certainly a factor in the US entry into WWI, but even more so is the German attempt to incite Mexico to declare war on the US (Zimmerman Telegram).
Plus, the Soviets signing a nonagression treaty with the Nazis made quite a bit of sense in an evil sort of way, up until the Sovs got their asses handed to them when they invaded Finland in the Winter War. The Red Army's woeful performance gave Hitler the idea that he didn't need to wait a couple of years to build up the Nazi war machine for the inevitable invasion of Russia. Hence invading while still engaged on the western front, and before the Nazis could pull together all of their strength to destroy Stalin.

Canada under Harper is truly a precious exception to the decline of the west. Australia now poised (!) to play a similar role. But with the UK such a disaster, and most of western Europe useless as usual .......
It still boils my blood - when I can get to caring any more - how the US under these idiots has stabbed Poland and the Czechs in the back. Not to mention the Hondurans, right-minded Iranian anti-regime types, Israel, and on and on.
Long-shot hope: within 2 years, we see a surprise new alliance of Japan/India/Singapore/Vietnam/Philippines - with Russian observer status - to counter the collapse of the US in the western Pacific. The way things are going, the fecklessness of the US will nearly force something on this order to be ginned up. South Korea can enjoy its new romance with the klepto-hegemonic Middle Kingdom and indulge its idiotic anti-Japanese complex.

Germany's mistake was not in letting Austria have a free hand. The Serbs had it coming. Everyone in Europe knew it.
Germany's mistake was in invading Belgium. We'll leave aside whether the Belgians deserved a beating, by somebody (cf. "King Leopold's Ghost"); we're dealing with diplomatic fuckups, never mind the morality. Germany should not have violated Belgium's neutrality.
France probably wouldn't have done anything beyond a few token shellings. Russia would have invaded and got spanked... as it did get spanked.

Even though our Eternal Father forgives us our sins, there is a thing called "temporal punishment." Think of it as the laws of physics. 55 million abortions since 1973. When the baby boomers retire, there will not be 55 million workers paying for their retirement. When they find themselves in poverty with no children to support them, will they repent?
God doesn't need to send down fire and brimstone like Sodom and Gamorrah. All he has to do is let you live with the consequences of your sin.

Boy, that's a tough call. I've never had a dog or cat that wasn't a rescue. All of them have been wonderful. But pits and small kids are a potentially very bad mixture. I wouldn't worry about a pure black lab, but a pit mix, I would.
Fast forward:
"One thing I saw on a show that they did with pits before placing them with kids was testing them for food aggression. They would put a bowl of food down and take a stuffed arm and prod the dog while it was eating to see its reaction while eating. If the dog flat out attacked the arm it was a no go. if it just growled a bit then backed down, then they could usually be trained."
This. Food is a trigger for the fighting reflex.
A friend of mine had a friendly, energetic pit mix that I had gotten on famously with for years. Then one day while I was over at their place, some food fell on the floor that was not dog kosher. I stepped in to stop the dog from snarfing it up.
OH HOLY MOTHER OF SHIT. The pit genetics came out all of a sudden and I was trying to remember that special-ops trick which had been described to me about sacrificing a forearm in order to snap the attacking dog's neck. It really was frightening. This from the same animal that had been romping around and wagging happily with me five minutes before.
My friend was profusely apologetic, but I was never on the same terms with that animal ever again. The dog forgot. I did not. Still scares me.

Austria also at the time was ruling over Catholic Serbs - the Croats - who agreed wholeheartedly that the Belgradians were playing the fool.

And, herding dogs around children will occasionally nip to keep their charges in line, just as they will with sheep. Someone I met picked up a perfectly nice Aussie sheepdog at the pound. Surrendered by a young family. Dog was honestly baffled. Did what it was supposed to do, what its breeding told it to do, and the next morning it was in the car leaving forever, because bawling kid.
Genetics will out.

The Albanians were in Kosovo first. Serbs are Slavs and the Slavic Urheimat is Ukraine and Belarus.
A lot of what's going on in the Balkans has to do with mythic memory, rather than historical fact. Serbs in Belgrade imagine that, because Sarajevo sort-of speaks Serbian and because Zagreb sort-of speaks Serbian, that Sarajevo and Zagreb belong to the White City. Well... the people who live in Sarajevo and Zagreb generally think otherwise.
And Kosovo wasn't ever Serbian, not really. It was just intermittently ruled by Serbs. And Serbs lost a battle there in 1389 which made it Holy Ground.

I do agree a better #7 would be Congress refusing to aid Ford in Ford's attempt to continue Nixon's (winning) Vietnamisation strategy.

Huge fun watching a border collie trying to deal with a brood of hens.
The chickens don't respond to the wolf stare that works so well on sheep.
Sheep tend to cluster defensively and move as a group. Hens go in all directions.
And saucy hens sometimes respond to a nip with a peck.
Lots of work for the dog.
The chickens can eventually be trained up to where the dog can work them, but the first couple of weeks are a real challenge.

Hammer, I use a mix of dies and parts, this is from memory so take it with a grain of salt.
Lee 3 die set for 5.56, I really like their Factory Crimp dies for all cals.
RCBS die set (I think) for 7.62x54r, effectively a 2 die set, but I have both neck and full sizing dies to use as needed. Just got a Lee Factory Crimp to complete the setup.
Lee 3 die set for 9mm. Hate this one with a passion, tends to produce ammo that doesn't chamber correctly with lead bullets, can only use plated, JHP or FMJ. I have a Lee 4 die set with the Factory Crimp die that is MUCH nicer, and works well with all bullet types. I'm going to switch back once I get another turret for the press.
Lyman 3 die set for 45 auto. Good set, but Lyman doesn't provide wrench flats on the body of the die, so getting them tight and accurate is difficult.
I junked all the locking rings for all three brands in favor of the Hornady rings, which are rock solid secure and don't fuck up the threads with set screws.

I'm not totally in tune with the interpersonal relationships of teh wimmens, but isn't that largely a fear that the single mom is after their husbands? Heard of this sort of thing before.
Semi-related: An old buddy of mine (unscrupulous single bastard) would go out bar hopping while wearing a pawn shop bought wedding ring. Never told anyone he was married, he just wore the ring. He swore up and down that it was like being smeared from head to toe with Spanish Fly.

From experience: No disrespect intended but this is bad advice.
PBTs, ASTerriers,AmBullsdogs are wonderful dogs and INTENSELY competitive. Somebody will win. If you are lucky, the mandatory pre 6 week dog socialization has already been done. If not , prepare for a LOT of vet bills.
A correction delivered with a chain training collar is quick and painless but communicates very well. Thousands of obedience , agility protection and Schutzhund dog competitors and testify to that fact.
Delivered correctly it is an effective tool. Most humans do not possess the patience nor the persistence to use a correction in a proper way.
At best "Positive reinforcement only" creates a dog that will obey...when hungry.
At worst , your dog think that you are a non-Alpha p*ssy and waits for his opportunity to show you or another animal just how tough he is.

I bet that dog looks forward to those few minutes(hence the slobber). Even sociable people get annoyed with company eventually. Dogs ain't people. A dog ostracized by a pack , is running on panicked survival instinct alone.
Dogs are eminently trainable. Given enough "reps", alone in the back yard for example, the training will take hold.

I did that for awhile right after I got divorced. It also worked for getting free drinks from interested ladies, which was my primary motivation, since the friggin' divorce had me in a pretty lean financial situation. What shocked me was the number of gay males that also bought me drinks. Must have been the tight Wranglers, cowboy hat, and boots along with the ring.

In the last several administrations, the VP has been far more active and executive than I consider officially seemly for that largely ceremonial position.
(To where Biden had to be formally rebuffed by Robert Gates for having the temerity to issue Gates orders, Biden being absolutely nowhere in the actual chain of command.)
I'm not sure that vesting formal Cabinet level duties in a VP would be an improvement on that already unpleasant arrangement.
Don't get me started on First Ladies who believe themselves to have policymaking responsibilities but who simultaneously insist upon being immune from criticism when they exercise those imagined responsibilities. Give me pleasantly smiling Betty Ford quietly drinking herself insensate upstairs, PLEASE. The only thing she did wrong was to let her habit get out of hand.
Or, if instead of a properly retiring First Lady, you want an unobtrusively drunken First Gentleman who will not be presuming to act as a minister without portfolio, I suppose I could be convinced to take up the role. Though my wife might require some inducement.

I can't wait to have the nation's first single president.
I don't need to hear about the president being a "family man (or woman)" when they are clearly not. I don't need to see pictures of the family in campaign materials as if that's some sort of qualification on their resume.
If they are in fact, a good family man/woman, then even better. If they aren't, just drop the charade already.
I'd rather have a good president who is single than a crappy one who can pose for photo ops with the family.

IIRC they were going around killing dogs for fun and Luttrell's dog was the last in the string before he hunted them down and stopped them. If I was one of those kids (not that I would ever be, can't even imagine the mindset that would be required to do something like what they did) I'd want to be safely behind bars for a loooong time.

The trailer made it clear that it was a quality production. I'd gladly pay for someone to go who needs to go, whose life might be turned around for the better by seeing it. But I would know going in that three of America's Finest were really lost -- because they were honorable, because they stood up, because they were the best. And I don't need 90 minutes of that in Technicolor. I believe that I could order such a mission to be attempted, and I believe that I could eventually sleep at night afterward, and I could see myself going over each moment and inch time-and-time again trying to make things better for the next guys caught in such a desperate plight.......but I can't see putting myself through that buzzsaw "just because."

God bless Texas.
Where I'm from, the district attorney was presented with a case in which a tattooed gangbanger thug with a long list of violent priors essentially executed a cop in broad daylight in the middle of the street. Said cop being a family man who was begging for mercy in the last seconds of his life. And the thug even used an EVIL ASSAULT RIFLE to do the deed, one of the quite rare cases of a police officer actually being killed with one.
The D.A. didn't even bother to ask the jury for the death penalty.
The voters punished the D.A. harshly. By making her the Attorney General of the state at large.
I need to get the fuck out of here before I lose my mind entirely.

The execution in Huntsville went terribly, horribly wrong.
Sadly, the convict did not spend 20 to 25 minutes gasping and choking on his last, desperate breaths.
Damn if Texas didn't spend some of it's oil riches on stockpiling reserves of the import-banned death dealing drug of choice. I mean, after all, we've got quite a stockpile of convicts on death row, awaiting their turn at the needle.

I'm in Wisconsin and I like Walker a lot. The main thing I worry about with him is lack of charisma. He seems like the suburban dad who dutifully mows his lawn - because he is the suburban dad who dutifully mows his lawn. I drove past his house once and saw him doing it. (He continues to live in Wauwatosa, a suburb of Milwaukee, not Madison. No mystery as to why he didn't move to Madison.) That goes over well in the Midwest and probably Southerners would like it, but hey, the 53% who think voting for President is like voting for American Idol won't find him very glamourous. And - I have to say - his wife is heavy. Again, I don't care, but I cringe to think of the cruel jokes that will come her way if he runs for national office. (Of course, the MSM won't make jokes about Hill looking like a hag, because sexist. But GOP women are fair game.)
Those things shouldn't matter at all, but with a dumbed down populace, they do. Maybe by the time 2016 rolls around, even dimbulbs will be hurting so much that they'll opt for a plainspoken guy with a backbone who gets results, but I'm not optimistic.

Only case of an actual fire aboard a spacecraft in flight that I know of.
"But [Mir] was deliberately deorbited as a condition for the construction of the International Space Station. That never sat well with them. They were kind of strong-armed into it after the fall of the Soviet Union."
Sucks. Familiar feeling. I used to have a satirical commemorative stamp titled "Skylab Comes Home", showing that station burning up on re-entry.
"Now they have part of the ISS, and today's three-person Soyuz crews are typically comprised of a Russian, an American, and a European, a Canadian, or a Japanese astronaut. So many Russians are upset, and feel that their space program has become nothing but a glorified taxi service! They're launching everybody but Russians, for the most part."
Although the Soyuz has given crews a pretty wild re-entry ride on some recent flights, one of which had a South Korean astronaut praying aloud in fear, it at least hasn't killed everyone aboard in living memory the way that Shuttle managed to do. Still not mourning that particular disastrous piece of aerospace design malpractice.

Yeah, that would work, although I think the protocol for military firing squads was one blank round per squad, wasn't it? The idea being that the overly sensitive could comfort themselves with the notion that they fired the blank round, while enough rounds would find their target that a re-do was never needed.

Not exactly true, Jim. Here's the situation. No US manufacturer makes an injectable version of pentobarbitol; that's why they were getting from non-US sources. Those sources refuse to sell to the States anymore, as it is used for executions. But pento is readily available in pill or powder form. And any licensed pharmacist can make, or compound, an injectable version from the solid form. So Texas (and a couple of other states) have hired a pharmacist to make this for them. But it is a public record, and the pharmacist(s) gets a ton of heat for doing it from the bleeding hearters. They especially get a lot of heat if they agree to make it more than once. And a batch has a limited shelf life, so you constantly need to buy new batches.
So it is an ongoing problem. Someone correct me if I have any particulars wrong here; but that is my understanding.

I'm pretty sure he would, since the recoil should be a lot less. But that's after the fact. The rationale for the blank round was that those chosen for the firing squad (not volunteers) could use the fact of the one blank round as a sop to their conscience for being forced to shoot a guy who might have been a buddy of theirs.

Probably too late for most, but .....
Fellow reloaders (Hammer and IllTempCur in particular), I've used the kinetic bullet puller (sparingly, fortunately) with pistol calibers, but today I used it to disassemble a 7.62X54R round so I could use the unfired brass case for a Mosin chamber deburring job. I wouldn't be so shy about those pullers - and you can bang them on a block of wood instead of the floor or bench, usually works with one or two strikes.
Actually pretty stoked with my semi-cleverness in depriming the case w/out the proper die - pulled the decapping pin from my Lee 38/357 die, put a large washer under the base so the primer had room to back out, and squeezed it in a vice (slowly!!). Came right out.
Lone Survivor. Definitely agree - go see it if you haven't. But please please read the book (afterwards is better). Was actually very disappointed with the movie, not in itself, but compared to the book (yeah, I know the standard formula about books and movies, but this was so substantial I think it needs to be mentioned).
No spoilers, so let's just say read the book. I'd say of the five most important/moving/amazing elements of the real story, only one gets decent treatment in the movie. Yeah, yeah - "hollywoodizing" and all that. But without a stopwatch and pause button at the time, I'm still pretty confident I could stay within the time limit and yet include the 80% that was dropped or barely covered. Saw it with a 25-year+ SEAL retiree I've known since junior high, mostly empty theater. Walked back out into the world (luxury mall) just as alienated and indifferent to today's America as before, but with a bit more contempt. Those serving are as good and noble as any who have ever served, they just lack a country to serve (for the most part).

My mom was worried that she was gonna have to figure out what to do with six horses and ten cats. he was laughing because he knows all too well im not dying yet. im too mean, too stubborn and have too much to do with Grim.

Which is why people who work in nitrogen environments in industry are subject to very tough safety protocols and training.

And it sort of indirectly smears the medical profession by making the execution appear to be a medical procedure.
Put the condemned in a box made of armor plate, with only their head sticking out a hole in the top. Cover the armor plate with thick wooden planks, so stray rounds don't ricochet into the crowd of cheering onlookers. Have a dozen or more volunteers in the firing squad, no blank rounds needed. Shotguns, big bore rifles, even .22s. Squad fires until there is nothing left to shoot at. Once body bleeds out, it's shipped to local hospital, and any useful organs removed.

Yeah, I can't recall exactly how much he was saying... but it was a pretty good price for one of those. In any event it's going to a good home and James is a heathen who doesn't dig old teles. Still a good acquisition for the price... but, bear in mind that it doesn't have the "classic" tele sound. I've never been a big fan of the deluxe or the later thinline, compared to standard. The early thinline kicks ass, but the later one has the deluxe style humbuckers. Mind you, it's certainly the way to go if you want to run that tele through a marshall stack. Not knocking it really, I prefer the single coil type standards, but I'd have that 72 thinline at that price. Make it wail, DDR!

LOTs of N2 used here for tank blanketing. Some people seem more susceptible than others for being overcome quickly.
When you go to tape a tank, need to vent off the N2 as you open the gage hatch. Try to stand upwind helps. But some people appear to be affected almost immediately - while others don't even seem to notice.
Personally hit in the face with a major leak once - due to the noise in the area, didn't know about the leak - just realized that my heart was racing for no apparent reason.

Incidentally, if that isn't a startling indictment of people's respect for government keeping its word, I don't know what would be. For those folks not paying attention, a "Forever" stamp for 1st class postage goes from 46 cents to 49 cents this weekend......so if you bought a gazillion of them Friday, you could theoretically undersell the post-office by a penny on Monday and still make two cents profit. For even more fun, you could buy two gazillion of them Friday, and wait for a year from Monday, and sell them for a penny less than the USPS charged then -- which would likely be +/- 52 cents. This would give you a five cent profit on a 46 cent investment in just over a year -- about 10%. Compare that with bonds, stocks, passbook savings.....
So, why isn't everybody doing this? Why didn't this happen when they first came out with Forever Stamps? Because people don't trust the government to keep its word. They know very well that Forever stamps aren't, that the USPS isn't permanent, that it'll gain a John Roberts tax somewhere, or it'll be Executive Ordered off to hell. If we had a vibrant, healthy economy under a rule of law, people would be all over such a deal like white on rice.....but we don't. We have a gangster economy, where making a big bet is buying a big beatdown, and ideas count for less than cronies and narratives.

I got hit by a loaded semi years ago. I was in a slow fishtail on black ice when he caught up to me and hit the drivers side. Didn't know he was there, as I was trying to get the pickup under control. Probably would have recovered if he hadn't been there. I bounced off him the second bump and went into the snowbank on the other side. Door was punched in about 3 inches, and I had a goose egg onthe back of my head later. Drove the truck to the doctor to get checked for concussion.

You'll pick up a lot, working with another guitarist, as you will with a drummer and bass player.. and much faster than on your own. The 35 watt orange will serve well., though that would be my choice for running a standrad single coil and turning it up to 11. For a big amp, without any doohickeys etc, the thinline would probably be less problematic and sound more satisfying at highe volume, generally.

Actually, gout is a metabolic syndrome of no known cause that is strongly genetic, and is not transmissible from person to person.
Though linked to excess beer/wine consumption and/or high levels of meat (especially organ meats) consumption, vegetarians and teetotalers can have gout.
Because it manifests itself in very physical symptoms (needle-like uric-acid crystals in joints, causing characteristic damage and inflammation), archeologists have found gout in many ancient peoples.
Having had a few gout attacks [my first brought on by trying to do a baby-aspirin per day for cardiac health], I can attest to their painful nature, and hope for a true metabolic cure.

Well, maybe you won't like this response quite as much. On the one hand, you might have a nice, snuggly lap dog who will lick you and provide years of companionship. Just like a great many other dogs that you could get from a shelter but who will be put down because nobody will take them. On the other hand, the pit bull in the mix might come out one day and your kids will be dead or maimed. When you read news reports about dog attacks on kids, it is not unusual to see the dog owners express surprise because their dog had never done anything like that before.
I think that it is a simple risk/reward calculation and I know how I would come down but obviously YMMV.
Keep in mind that dogs in general and pit bulls in particular are very influenced by size. Adults are much bigger than them but toddlers are close to their size or smaller.
They are your kids - not mine, so make your decision and accept the consequences. The longer you keep this dog, the harder it will be to return it and adopt another one who will be less likely to tear out your child's throat or chew off his face.

Actually, new rope is used for every hanging.
The amount of stretch has to be calculated and a "used" rope is an unknown variable.
That's so the length of the fall is enough so that the neck is snapped and the condemned are not strangled. (not that that would bother me but the law is clear that the method can not be torture.)
