Because I'm tired and lazy that's why.

So Who Would Play You in a Movie?

According to the quiz this is the movie version of me. It could have been much worse. So conflicted but still satisfied is how I'm feeling.

I can live with that.

What Up All You PIV Rapists

I hate to break it to you but if you're male aficionado of PIV, you are a vile rapist and woman colonizer. And if you're a female fan, well you're just a dehumanized orifice-victim of the heterocage. At least according to this Rad-Femmer:

Intercourse is the very means through which men oppress us, from which we are not allowed to escape, yet some instances of or PIV [Ed: penis in vagina] and intercourse may be chosen and free? That makes no sense at all.

First, well intercourse is NEVER sex for women. Only men experience rape as sexual and define it as such. Sex for men is the unilateral penetration of their penis into a woman (or anything else replacing and symbolising the female orifice) whether she thinks she wants it or not - which is the definition of rape: that he will to do it anyway and that he uses her and treats her as a receptacle, in all circumstances - it makes no difference to him experiencing it as sexual. That is, at the very least, men use women as useful objects and instruments for penetration, and women are dehumanised by this act. It is an act of violence.

And she has a message for all you penis-wielding PIV-ing beastly un-women types:

  1. Stop sticking your dicks in women. This is rape. This is torture.
  2. Stop sticking your dicks in women. NOW. For EVER!!!! Ever ever. Like, don't ever put your dick in a woman or a girl again.
  3. The above is the utmost, absolute MINIMUM men can do to help women. This does not even count men's infinite every-day torture that surrounds rape and impregnation of women by men that they should stop too. A man who sticks his dick in girls and women is a rapist (and scum). He is not helping women.
  4. Give back to women what you, and men in general, have stolen from women:
  5. Women need Land. Give land back to women.
  6. Women need money. Give money back to women.
  7. Women need houses and rooms of our own. Give houses back to women.
  8. Women need resources (food, water, equipment of all sorts.). Give resources back to women.
  9. Women need time. Clean your own shit.
  10. Reminder: stop using your dick against women, stay away from feminism, and refuse any credit for your what you give back to women. For a thief is not to be thanked for handing back what he stole.

Oh baby, baby - what happened to you?  And does PIH also count as self-rape? I'm asking for a friend.

And then you have the rad-femmer's worst nightmare: The Man With Two Functioning Penises. You know if they have alternating refractory periods, well that would be....AWESOME.

Hillary Clinton and the Never-Ending Presidential Campaign

But that actual campaign's start date keeps getting earlier, while the speculation has become perpetual. What happens when the two finally overlap? A tear in the time-space continuum? Nope, the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign.

That's one of the takeaways buried in Maggie Haberman's profile of Hillary Clinton's "shadow campaign." Haberman writes about Clinton's meeting with party strategists about a presidential run last year, and about the bevy of outside groups, super-PACs, Obama campaign veterans, and others who have created "a virtual campaign in waiting" for her, at once demonstrating her potential strength as a candidate and the personality-cult politics that have the Democrats so desperate to avoid any internal conflict over the 2016 nomination.

It's been over 20 years since the Clintons first arrived in Washington and we're still not rid of them.

Your Trained Elite Betters

So what do you do if you're giving a PowerPoint presentation and your laser pointer doesn't work? Well if you're Jerome Hauer, New York's Director of the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, you just pull out your laser-sighted Glock, accidentally sweep the audience, and then use it for your presentation.

These officials, one of whom claimed to be an eyewitness, said that three Swedish emergency managers in the delegation were rattled when the gun's laser tracked across one of their heads before Hauer found the map of New York, at which he wanted to point.

Hauer, commissioner of the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, was disabled by a stroke a few years ago and can be unsteady. He isn't a law enforcement official. He carries the loaded 9-millimeter Glock in a holster into state buildings, an apparent violation of state law barring state employees from bringing weapons to the workplace, several witnesses say.

33 Gee for once the "gas explosion" narrative seems to be getting some push back. Hmmm Speaking of fires, that one in the NYC high rise yesterday disturbed me. Especially the new "high rises are fireproof" thinking the fire department is putting out there. I get that if those guys had stayed in their apartment the one still would have been alive but don't most of us instinctively want to get out of burning buildings especially after 9-11? I wonder if FDNY made some bad decisions and are now covering themselves.

79 SpaceX brings it again! Earlier this evening, the Falcon 9 rocket flawlessly launched the Thaicom 6 communications satellite into a geosynchronous transfer orbit. It was the second such successful launch in 34 days, which is the quickest turnaround SpaceX has achieved up till now. The last launch on December 3 marked the first commercial satellite launch from Cape Canaveral in four years. In recent years, the commercial satellite market has been dominated by the Europeans and the Russians. The American Atlas V and Delta IV launch vehicles are more expensive and have been mainly used for U.S. Government payloads, such as military satellites and NASA missions. SpaceX intends to undercut everybody. Even China says they can't compete with SpaceX on price. The commenter Robin Goodfellow at Transterrestrial Musings said the following: A lot of people are smiling from this launch, especially at SpaceX. ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) is still smiling from their recent successful launch of the GSLV, especially since theyÂ’re still moderately competitive with the Falcon 9. Every other commercial launch operator should be having trouble sleeping pretty much for the foreseeable future. When they are writing the history books theyÂ’ll have to look back at when the old launch companies were made obsolete, I think theyÂ’ll be spending a lot of time looking at 2014. HereÂ’s the fundamental problem for anyone who isnÂ’t SpaceX: theyÂ’re not only ahead, theyÂ’re advancing very quickly, even if you try to catch up youÂ’ll just fall behind slower but youÂ’ll still fall behind. (Emphasis mine) Here is the full webcast of tonight's launch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFyP0kr-guE You can skip ahead to about the 39 minute mark to see the launch, but I'd recommend watching the whole thing. There is quite a bit of interesting background material about SpaceX in the beginning. One of the announcers, John Insprucker, is an Air Force veteran who used to work on Titan III and IV launches from the very same pad, so he brings a lot of experience and expertise. And the terminal count beginning at T-13 minutes is about as exciting as it gets. It has me on the edge of my seat every time. That's my idea of Must See TV. There is nothing like a SpaceX launch. I just don't get the same butterflies and goosebumps from watching any other launch vehicle. I remember watching Gemini and Apollo launches when I was a kid, and I can assure you that SpaceX is really where the action is nowadays. Oh, and for their next trick, after their next scheduled launch in February they will attempt to fly the first stage back to the launch site and bring it in for a soft landing on retractable legs. Nobody in the world has ever tried that before.

141 Where the heck did they get those numbers for pay and compensation of AD, Guard and Reserve soldiers? I'm thinking they just made half of them up. For instance, housing varies from base to base and it is a monthly allowance for those who live off base based on rank and marital status. For those who live on base, they do not get that allowance and the housing has been paid for in most cases for years. There is a cost to maintain them and utilities but not that much. The $996 for subsidized groceries? Heck I spend that in less than a year and I am single now. Health care over 19K? I don't use that much now and I've been retired for over 13 years. I'd really like to know what they base those numbers on.

150 A great documentary to watch is Beyond the Mat. Released in 1999. Featured a bunch of wrestlers, one of which was Jake the Snake. At that stage he was in full blown crackhead mode, having lost every penny he ever made. The documentary crew caught up with Jake as he was touring small towns North Dakota, pissing in buckets backstage and wrestling for 60 people at a time in high school gyms. Not big city North Dakota mind you. None of those fancy stuck-up big cities like Fargo. Small town North Dakota. I remember that movie had a scene where he tried to reconnect with his father, who also had been a pro wrestler. And who had raped his mother when she was 16, that's how Jake was produced. Dude had a rough life. But he was just on Raw, proving he's not dead yet.

163 "Remember that tire factory in France that Goodyear said they wouldn't bailout? The workers are keeping their bosses hostage."

C'est la France.

I myself was more amused by the Boeing machinists' union flap up in Seattle.

Boeing was deciding where to put their new 777X program (which any state in their right mind would love to have, and for which many offers have been made by states other than Washington). Seattle is very expensive, not least in union labor cost and benefits. So Boeing sat down with the Seattle-area machinists' union bosses and said, "Here's our best and final offer."

The union bosses flatly and contemptuously rejected the BAFO.

So Boeing said, "Okay. Bye." Got up. Left.

The very next morning, Boeing bought a couple of hundred acres of new land adjacent to their existing -- nonunionized -- plant in Charleston.

The Seattle union members collectively and instantly shit their pants.

Of course, you and I might figure that when the bosses of a union, y'know, go in to negotiate ON BEHALF OF the union, they're speaking for the membership. Isn't that how it works?

In this case, the hysterically panicked rank and file members said, "Boeing! Wait! Stop! Don't leave! We haven't had the rank and file vote yet! You can't leave until we vote!"

And they promptly had a vote where they accepted the Boeing BAFO terms.

Boeing, more fools they, graciously said that they would take it up.

Frankly, Boeing should have laughed in their faces and shut the door. Sorry! Game over! You would then have seen the bodies of tarred, feathered, shot, burned and repeatedly run-over union bosses hanging from lamp posts all over greater Puget Sound. It would have been marvelous.

But, bowing to reality, Boeing still have a massive backlog of program work that is stuck in Seattle for the time being. They can't afford to have a situation wherein those planes are being sabotaged as they come off the ways.

164 "The foremost reality about so-called pro-feminist men however is that their mere presence (just PRESENCE, that is, without even saying anything YET) inevitably and automatically triggers in most women the illusion that men can, after all, be nice and care about women, and that it is worth staying around them investing energy and time trying to change them (and why not be my nigel?). In other words, it reinforces trauma-bonding to men, or alternatively, causes consciously-experienced fear, rage, suspicion, hypervigilance or other normal reactions to menÂ’s presence. This means that menÂ’s presence will inevitably be experienced as a threat by women, whether consciously or unconsciously, and will thus paralyse movement into feminism. Whether we want it or not. Encouraging trust and especially trauma-bonding to men endangers all women, exposes women to more abuse and surveillance from men, it prevents women from going to the end of our thoughts and sabotages womenÂ’s spaces and work." I just. Dear God. You hear that men, if we spend time with you we might start to think that you're not rapists, when clearly you are obviously rapists so we should avoid you or you might start raping us!

326 "Torquewrench, look further south. The Long Beach plant is toast in 2015 when the last C-17 rolls off the line. They bid on the 777x also. And lost. So now the idiots in Long Beach are going 'we must find out what the problem is.' I could tell them their problem but they won't listen."

The CFO of Boeing was asked at an investment analysts' conference if the company had plans to put any new production into Long Beach after the C-17 is finished.

His response was basically "Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah no."

And he pretty much went on to say that there will not be any new investment by Boeing in manufacturing facilities anywhere in California ever again. Various legacy facilities like Palmdale will be in operation for a while yet, but when those close? That's all folks!

What's really funny is that I don't think the insular, arrogant political class in southern California have any idea of the economic echo effect of Boeing leaving Long Beach. There must be fifty thousand small businesses in and around the L.A. metroplex that are feeders for or are otherwise dependent upon that plant.

But, it's not moviemaking. It's not sexy or flashy or trendy or hip. It's good old fashioned nitty-gritty metal-bending manufacturing work. The stuff that the New Class mandarins who dominate California politics find distasteful and incomprehensible and greasy. Except, those mandarins are also under the gun to create jobs in CA, and this sure won't help on that front.

437 Thanks. I think i am getting he timing mixed up. Did the fandom for Riddick start after 'Pitch Black' and they were waiting for Chronicles?

Posted by: RWC sans White Wizard sock at January 07, 2014 12:07 AM

Sort of, yes. "Pitch Black" was a bit of a hit and something of a surprise for a relatively low budget flick. It really came into it's own with a sort of cult following. However, I'm not so sure about the the actual "fandom" for Riddick. Good as the character was, I suspect most of the appreciation was for "Pitch Black" as a movie, rather than a character. A lot of fans were looking forward to another movie, which obviously would involve Riddick, but, I think the expectation was more for something LIKE "Pitch Black", rather than "The adventures of Riddick, instellar superhero and bit of a scalliwag". "Chronicles" was ok. A good movie in it's own right. But, it's no "Pitch Black"... which was a minimal story of team work, survival and emnity.

I'm not sure that "Pitch Black" could have actually been follwed up without disappointment. Lightning in a bottle.

I've always liked FSU's live mascot due to all the training and education that has to be done to play the role.  San Diego State's "Montezuma" was the same way before PC did him in.  The last, or next to last (I forget which), guy that did Montezuma for SDSU was the cousin of one of my neighbors when I lived in SD.  He told me about the massive amount of effort that went into playing the role, including having to go to Mexico City to study the Aztec culture.  It's my understanding that the FSU mascot does intensive study with the Seminole tribe before being allowed to fill the role.

The Redskins can't do that. They've tried. They have amerindian groups they work with who say they are cool with it, but the Left pays off some other group to play the aggrieved victim group.

524 No, to get a showe, get myself ready,r and their lunches made before I wake them up otherwise it's impossible with three in pre-k, kinder, & 1st underfoot and trying to do all that while brushing teeth, dressing them, feeding them, and dealing with various "issues" that always come up.

Posted by: lindafell at January 06, 2014 08:57 PM (PGO8C)

525 In the spirit of a supervisor I worked for one time, whose all-purpose remark was "I know that's a hell of an attitude, by I come by it honestly," war story:

It was the late fall of 1977, because we date events by blizzards here. My acquaintances knew I was a philosophy major, so I got set up for a date with a female Univ of Mich philosophy major. She was not hideous to look at.

From my place to Ann Arbor is a rural hour, which seems like a lot around here, but I was motivated. It was not possible to spend the first 25 minutes with this woman without learning that she was a Wymyn'sphilosophy major, and had been completely, may I say it, cocked-and-primed with the PIV-rape worldview.

If you can imagine it getting worse from there, it did. Most of my work was in Aristotle and the pre-Socratics. She knew exactly one thing about Aristotle: he had once said that a woman is an imperfect man, that quote had been fed her by a prof who said that was all she'd ever need to know about Aristotle, and that was that. I averred that Big A's point might not have been the imperfection, but the theory of definition involved in saying that, nah she wasn't having any. So we went for a short walk, no dinner and drinks, bye see ya.

The reason I can remember the event at all is that on the way home, a thunderstorm front turned into snow, and we got about a foot for Thanksgiving. 78 and 79 are remembered as the great blizzard years, but that one-off was a real sockdolager.  I was driving a Rancher-oo with no weights in the back, so it was a challenging drive indeed, whilst pondering my new-found sense of the reality I was living in. The Movement holds no surprises for me.

I think he could make a fortune in porn, if he didn't freak the women out too much. They are side by side, but he could still manage a one-man DP, and/or do two women at the same time. I don't know if it would fly with "mainstream" porn or not, might just be too freaky and gross, but if it did, he could make a fortune, which is something for male "talent", which is mostly just props for the women to show off their skills on.

I denounce myself for these perverted thoughts.

For example, the right answer to second one was:  "Shut the fuck up, you whining piece of shit."

The correct answer to the 6th one was:  "why the fuck would the home alone kid be my boss?"

The correct answer to the 8th one was:  "no fucking way I spending any evening listening to Oprah's bullshit."

The correct answer to the 9th one was:  "like you'd know when the end of the world will be you leftist twit."

Thank you for asking. Yes, she eventually got to Greensboro, and has some *ahem* choice words expressing her opinion of Delta. She got a 4WD vehicle, despite her corporate travel group totally blowing off her rental car request entirely. And she had a productive day at work, punctuated by getting an email from me that the temp was going to start dropping 3 degrees/hour and if she left anything warm in the car she should grab it. So things are under control at present.

One of the reasons that the rental car is such a big issue is that she's looking to close out of the hotel, go to the office, do a quick pirouette, and get to the airport on Friday, so timing is critical....and if Friday morning has weather issues, she wouldn't make it home on time. 4WD is insurance.

The first time she went to Greensboro, the company "travel specialists" routed her through Detroit. Since then, she always routes through Atlanta. If Greensboro -> Atlanta -> SFO gets canceled by cold, we all need to start relocating toward the equator -- 'cause we're having another event like the one that froze mammoths solid with half-digested buttercups in their stomachs.

Posted by: cthulhu at January 06, 2014 10:45 PM (T1005)

606 I looked at the Minneapolis story, and am afraid I think the author got the wrong idea about things. He spoke to the gas company, and they gave him their party line (which is probably true) that nothing went wrong with their equipment. He took that to mean "gas didn't blow up". What he missed was that any gas leak would have to be INSIDE the building, which the gas company spokesman explained, is not their jurisdiction, so to speak. There could have been a gas leak with a stove, or some other device, which was not detected (smelled) by neighbors, at least not in time. Still, it could have been a suicide, or "work accident", as we call it here. If it were a terrorist attack, you'd think it would have been bigger. The suspicious thing is that a cop had just left the building a few minutes before, supposedly to investigate a robbery. It seemed odd that the cops were non-committal about ever possibly finding the cause, and said the investigation could take weeks. Maybe they're just being prudent; doing a little CYA.

For another "Our Amazing World of Nature" segment -- check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Mazama and reflect on the fact that there were humans around when this mammoth calamity went down. How many of them saw the signs and said, "yikes! we need to GTFO of here!" only to be confronted with "Llao is angry we take too many deer, must only eat non-GMO fish, sustainably harvested."

We'll never know exactly how that discussion went, of course, because it was buried beneath 250 feet of smoking volcanic ash.

Thanks. That was an awesome tune (lipsynch on Mike Douglas, but still great power pop).

Believe it or not, our high school won a Raspberries concert in 1974 in a contest run by Super CFL.  We had to mail in Carefree Sugarless gum packets OR 3x5 cards, and a very hot young Social Studies teacher would give passes to get out of study hall to sit in her room and write "Carefree Sugarless Gum" on 3x5 cards. So naturally, her room was full of pimply 16 year olds filling out cards, and we kicked every other school's ass.

The version the Killers did at the end of the Dark Shadows movie was good (and appropriate to the story).

Pliny the elder died on shore after landing. He was a bit of a nutter. While waiting for favourable winds to make a departure, Pliny asked for a bath from a friend that he was rescuing. He hung out at the freinds joint and assured everyone that the fire from Vesuvius were just flames from burning villas. Then Pliny preceded to stuff his face with dinner.... and attempted to take a nap. The P-man didn't die from "fumes" per se, but from ash inhalation. He wrapped his head with cloth as a makeshift mask, but couldn't breath. His air passage and lungs got inflamed and clogged with ash.

P-man never let something as minor as a volcanic eruption stop him from partying down. I salut his gusto. Rock on, Pliny, you crazy fuck.

689 Jack Nicholson, in an action comedy. Nothing to complain about there.
