Obamacare Is Just Another Word For Laws We Ignore Together

Out: Written laws and stuff. In: ObamaCareocracy.

The Obama administration is now giving medium-sized employers an extra year - until 2016 - before they must offer health insurance to their full-time workers. This directly contradicts the text of the law. Good for those employers; bad for the rule of law.
I don't want to sound like a troglodyte, but the president, as head of the executive branch of the federal government is constitutionally obligated to "take care that the laws be faithfully executed," not implement laws in an expedient manner, or a more prudent manner, or even in a way that he believes is more moral or a helpful for people struggling to find affordable health care. This is why we write bills down and debate them prior to passage. Or, at least, it used to be.

ObamaCare - It's the ultimate wildcard of a law. Which allows the President to do anything. Or nothing. Whatever his whims and needs at the moment dictate. Sorta like the commerce clause except far more powerful since everything - including just keeping yourself alive - falls under its domain.

The Time When Andrew Breitbart Commented Here

In classic Andrew-style:

62 I was on with Bashir once. It was a lovely experience. He read straight from Media Matters prepared script that day, and I called it out. His attempt to portray me as a racist consisted of trying to associate me with a racist email forwarded by an obscure Orange County, California elected official. As I excoriated said obscure elected official in no uncertain terms, Bashir refused to accept it. He then went through another grotesque set of Media Matters planted racism by non association innuendo. I wholly expected this moment. And it was weirdly fun. There is a daily direct connection between the unions that pay for Media Matters PR work and the content that goes up at MSNBC. It is government funded and subsidized propaganda. It is crony capitalism at it's worse. But if we were to eliminate it we would be depriving ourselves of so much 'Resist We Much' found comedy. So the question remains what to do about the MSNBC problem? I say we let them be!

Posted by: Andrew 'I Want Ace's Commenters!' Breitbart at September 29, 2011 02:03 PM (6uTN2)

Which makes this poster both literally and figuratively true. Rest in peace, Andrew.

Is Peak Orwell Sustainable?

Well according to MiniSustainability it is.

Greens like to have it both ways. They warn darkly about "peak oil" and global resource shortages that will destroy our industrial economy in its tracks - but also warn that runaway economic growth will destroy the planet through the uncontrolled effects of mass industrial productions. Both doomsday scenarios cannot be true; one cannot simultaneously die of both starvation and gluttony.
"You do not become a ''dissident'' just because you decide one day to take up this most unusual career. You are thrown into it by your personal sense of responsibility, combined with a complex set of external circumstances. You are cast out of the existing structures and placed in a position of conflict with them. It begins as an attempt to do your work well, and ends with being branded an enemy of society."

Conservative Crank Channels My Views on Amnesty

You got your amnesty in 1986. Where is the border security that was promised? Where is the mandatory E-Verify system?

You will get nothing, period. No path to citizenship, no legal status to come out of the shadows. No more chain migration. You will build a fence, you will approve an increase in the size of the Border Patrol, and you will not de-prioritize the deportation of any illegal who comes to the attention of law enforcement.

Furthermore, English will become the official language of the United States.

Do all these things, give it a decade to prove they're working, and then and only then will we discuss amnesty for those still here, and by amnesty we mean "will not be prosecuted". Go to the end of the line like everyone else who followed the rules.

Posted by: Conservative Crank at February 05, 2014 12:37 AM (d7H2D)

Those of us old enough to remember the 'once and never again' 1986 amnesty also remember all the sacred-honor-but-quickly-broken promises of strict immigration enforcement from legislators that came along with it.

Well we fucked up - we trusted them. So if they want to talk about another amnesty, first they will show us that they are willing and able to enforce border security and the existing laws. We can wait.

The Onion: Conservative Acquaintance Annoyingly Not Racist

Heh.

Not the Onion: Geraldo Complains that O'Reilly Stripped Obama 'of His Majesty'

By asking some semi-challenging questions of The One.

"What we had here with you and President Obama was a culture class. It was the president of most of the white guys of America, that's you. And, Barack Obama the president of almost everybody else. And the discussion was at that level. To watch it was some ways unsettling to me. What you did was strip him of his majesty."

Wait - Richard 'Paranoid Style' Hofstadter Was Full of It?

I'm shocked, shocked that a leftist intellectual would declare non-left opposition to be mentally ill.

But, as Christopher Lasch noted, by collapsing "political criticism into psychiatric categories," Hofstadter and his intellectual allies excused themselves "from the difficult work of judgment and argumentation." Similarly, the literary critic Ronald Berman pointed out that in "The Paranoid Style," "there are no case histories, no studies of the complex individual, no examination of intellectual development that is concrete. There is only the construction of hypothetical social types." As with standard-issue Marxist tropes, arguments didn't have to be debated-instead they could be reduced to the supposed social-psychological problems of those so foolish as to defect from liberal orthodoxy.

Everyone is an A Student Now

Well except for the losers who get an A- or <shudder> a B+.

"A recent analysis of 200 colleges and universities published in the Teachers College Record found 43 percent of all letter grades awarded in 2008 were A's, compared to 16 percent in 1960. And Harvard's student paper recently reported the median grade awarded to undergraduates at the elite school is now an A-. A statistician at Duke tried to make a difference and stirred up a hornet's nest in the process."

Your Genderist Pronouns Are Oppressing Me!

So I'd like $500K please.

A person in Oregon named Valeria Jones is suing catering company Bon Appétit Management for $518,682 because coworkers used female names in reference to Jones despite the fact that Jones had continually expressed the desire to be addressed only with gender neutral pronouns.

Some of the terms the coworkers called Jones included, for example, "little lady," "lady" and "miss," reports The Oregonian. The coworkers said Jones looked like a woman-possibly some unidentified female celebrity.

Jones was unhappy, explaining that pronouns which apply to everyone do not apply to Jones and are "unwelcome" because Jones is "not a female or a male."

Before ultimately quitting the job, Jones asked supervisors to present information to every other employee about various gender identity issues. The suit says supervisors chose not to make such a presentation.

"Plaintiff cried regularly at work and at home during this time," Jones's $518,682 suit declares.

Jones began working for Bon Appétit in March 2013 and then resigned at some unspecified later date.

When filling out a job application, the prospective employee left the binary boxes about being either male or female blank - apparently intentionally - and staffers at Bon Appétit Management Co. never mentioned it.

800,000 Year Old Footprints Found in Britain

It is unclear who these humans were. One suggestion is that they were a species called Homo antecessor, which was known to have lived in southern Europe. It is thought that these people could have made their way to what is now Norfolk across a strip of land that connected the UK to the rest of Europe a million years ago. They would have disappeared around 800,000 years ago because of a much colder climate setting in not long after the footprints were made.

It was not until 500,000 years ago that a species called Homo heidelbergensis lived in the UK. It is thought that these people evolved into early Neanderthals some 400,000 years ago. The Neanderthals then lived in Britain intermittently until about 40,000 years ago - a time that coincided with the arrival of our species, Homo sapiens.

There are no fossils of antecessor in Happisburgh, but the circumstantial evidence of their presence is getting stronger by the day.

In 2010, the same research team discovered the stone tools used by such people. And the discovery of the footprints now all but confirms that humans were in Britain nearly a million years ago, according to Prof Chris Stringer of the Natural History Museum, who is also involved in the research at Happisburgh.

7 Bipartisan Assault on Marriage and the Nevada Constitution Democratic Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto and Republican Governor Brian Sandoval have conspired to overthrow the Constitution that binds them. We are a nation based on the rule of law where the law emanates from the people, both past and present, and binds everyone to it, including our elected officials. Cortez Masto has refused to defend the provision of the Nevada Constitution, which it is her duty to protect, that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman. That provision is being challenged in court, and both Cortez Masto and Sandoval are refusing to defend it, despite it being passed by the people. Sadly, this was completely foreseeable. The ruling which struck down CaliforniaÂ’s ban, Prop. 8, was similarly struck down in large part because their Governor and Attorney General refused to defend it, and thereby denied any defense since only the state was declared to have standing, with the concomitant determination that the Governor and Attorney General are the state. 40 Was reading the NY Times article on Shirley Temple. Turns out Hollywood was always pedo-friendly. From the article: "In 1932, Shirley was spotted by an agent from Educational Pictures and chosen to appear in “Baby Burlesks,” a series of sexually suggestive one-reel shorts in which children played all the roles. The 4- and 5-year-old children wore fancy adult costumes that ended at the waist. Below the waist, they wore diapers with oversize safety pins." and "On her first visit to MGM, Mrs. Black wrote in her autobiography, the producer Arthur Freed unzipped his trousers and exposed himself to her. Being innocent of male anatomy, she responded by giggling, and he threw her out of his office."

42 The gender thing is being debated in literary circles too. I think I posted a link to it earlier last week, but Larry Correia had some hilarious things to say about it on his blog- it started up a big debate in a bunch of other sci-fi/fantasy author sites.

Personally, I can't believe we're really debating this.

I mean, seriously? We must have solved all the problems in the world and so now it's time to make up some new crap.

Far more likely, we don't want to address the difficult crap (massive government seizure of rights in our country, execution of women and gays in extremist countries, abortion, Justin Beiber, etc.) so we're going to fight some easy battle that matters not a whit- i.e: what pronouns people use in conversation when referring to each other.

Get water (fill pots, pans and whatever you can for potable water and fill the bathtubs to provide water for the toilets), fuel, food that doesn't need to be cooked, flashlights and lanterns readily available, and heating sources. For the latter, layer warm clothes and haul out blankets. When you can, look online for the chemical hand/foot/body warmers like hot shots or grabber. They are invaluable.

127 I think human consciousness is a tragic misstep in evolution. We became too self-aware, nature created an aspect of nature separate from itself, we are creatures that should not exist by natural law. We are things that labor under the illusion of having a self; this accretion of sensory, experience and feeling, programmed with total assurance that we are each somebody, when in fact everybody is nobody. Maybe the honorable thing for our species to do is deny our programming, stop reproducing, walk hand in hand into extinction, one last midnight, brothers and sisters opting out of a raw deal.

Being innocent of male anatomy, she responded by giggling, and he threw her out of his office." Posted by: The Political Hat at February 11, 2014 11:15 PM (AymDN) Hmmmm. Concening Presidential edicts from Zero- I would like to see a conservative win in 2016 and say that he is issuing an executive order that abortions can not be performed using federal funds or on federal sites.

Concerning Breitbart- the sites built by him are much poorer from his loss. Andrew I miss you.

Posted by: The Educated Hat

Had a Differental Equations teacher that graded on an absolute scale, every point counted, no +/- and an A was 93%.

93%

Muffed the first review quiz with a C+, proceeded to ace every other test.  Ended up with 91% or 92%.

Got a B.

255 "In even weirder Neanderthal news, some DNA they extracted in a cave in Spain turns out to be... mitochondrial (ie, maternal) DNA for the Denisovans."

DNA is becoming more and more interesting stuff.

In the upper crust of the AfAm community, there has been something of a vogue for having genetic genealogy performed. Oprah Winfrey sent a swab to the lab and proudly proclaimed herself to be of Zulu extraction after the results came back. Chris Rock found out that the "Native American" blood in his family was actually European. Michelle Obama has also had her DNA sequenced. No surprises for her.

Yet for some reason, the single most famous African-American in the country is reticent to have this simple procedure performed. It's almost as though he is nervous about something. For instance, that the results might reveal an embarrassing mismatch with what he officially claims to be his East African paternal lineage.

But we all know that can't POSSIBLY be the case.

(cough Frank Marshall Davis of West African bloodlines cough)

Because you get to see Leo die a horrible death from hypothermia. Then Rose says "I'll never let you go"........and flings his popsicle'd body off the raft. That's just good entertainment for the whole family.

298 Hoping for the best for all the folks down south in the path of that ice storm. I went through the one that hit Kentucky in '09 and was without power for two weeks, or longer -- I can't recall exactly.

I was fortunate enough to have a natural gas water heater, ventless gas fireplace, and gas grill. Most of the folks down south likely don't have those luxuries.

Unfortunately, it happened before I took up photography. I really wish I had pictures from that storm. The most vivid memory from it is the sounds -- like intermittent gun shots going on all around. It was trees snapping under the weight of the ice.

An unforgettable experience.

The mud is an old layer revealed by the waves eroding the sand. So how do they know the last time this mud layer was exposed was 800K years ago? Is there no other possibility? They don't explore that in the paper. Also, the waves destroyed the site? If its that important why didn't they build a dam or something? They also complain they couldn't easily photograph the prints because the rain kept filling them up. They couldn't even put up a tent?

Also, modern "green" gasoline with ethanol is horrible for carbureted small engines. As are found in generators.

Make sure the thing is working well before you need it.

When you no longer need it, get most of the remaining gasoline out of the tank. Pour a hearty dose of carb cleaner in with the last few spoonfuls of gas. Run it bone dry till it quits. Make sure no last bits of gasoline lurk in places like float bowls.

I'm a big proponent of tri fuel generators for emergency backup. If you always run them with propane or NG there are no carburetor issues. But if the emergency lasts long enough you can run them on gasoline. I have had to rebuild/clean gasoline carbs in the past which would suck in an emergency situation.

Showered at my parents house across the river (cannot do the ice cold showers.) The most interesting part was when the power came back on after 5 days. The temps in the apartment were down in the upper 30's. I got home from work about 15 mins after the power came on. It took several hours for the temp to get back up into the 60's. It was amazing to watch tv in my recliner and see my breath steam in front of me. Also, all the creaking of everything in the apartment as it warmed back up. Pretty cool. Still sucked, but in a cool way.

That fits right in with what I've been thinking about with a "country place" -- why get a separate generator when you can get spin off the wheel of a vehicle? It's like having a power plant that can run around looking for fuel.

My next door neighbor (widower, dementia setting in) never heard from family the whole time. He wouldn't have remembered to feed himself. My current emergency generator is an ancient Coleman, with a 7 HP Briggs engine. It has never failed to start, mismatched parts and all. Rope start, no recoil, because the recoil became unreliable and I retro-modded it. And if anything does go wrong, I have enough parts, and flashlights, on hand to overhaul the carb on the spot, and do the points and condenser, too.

I would hope they'd see the light and start impeachment proceedings. The Ranking Democrats should call for it. Pelosi should be forced to call for impeachment. She should, if she were a patriot. This continuing rewriting and ignoring of the Constitution has to be stopped - The President has to be impreached - immediately.

Rope start, no recoil, because the recoil became unreliable and I retro-modded it. Now that is sensible. Spares and know-how.

My one concern with those oldies but goodies is that the wave output is pretty dirty power. Some people would be wanting to run key appliances with microprocessors and other such electrically finicky dinguses in them, that will throw up on anything other than a gorgeously pure sine wave.

Since it's a 2-pole generator that runs at 3600 RPM, there shouldn't be an issue with the waveform. But I have never put a scope on it. This computer has run fine on it, for hours on end. I'd honestly be more concerned with the waveform from one of those inverter generators.

I also have a big old Onan 4-pole generator from an RV. Runs at 1800 RPM, and has electric start, too. I should get it fired up, one day. Heavy sucker, though. Needs to have wheels put under it.

She worked as a stewardess on various ocean liners off and on until her retirement in 1950. Her journals were collected into a book entitled "Titanic Survivor", edited by John Maxtone-Graham. I think the most interesting part of the book is the story of Britannic's sinking, which is much less well known than Titanic. It was Titanic's sister ship, but it never saw service as a passenger liner. After the sinking of Titanic, it was modified and was still incomplete at the outbreak of World War I in 1914. It was converted to a hospital ship and made a few voyages to the Mediterranean to pick up wounded soldiers from Gallipoli. It sank after striking a mine in 1916. After her rescue, Violet Jessop remarked that she was brushing her teeth and was asked by another survivor, "Where did you get that toothbrush?" She replied, "I brought it with me" after which she was regarded with suspicion since German spies were thought to be everywhere.

This was a case where I'd been watching a spot more fixedly than the dentist -- the practice has been sold twice and everything seemed good going forward, but I remembered a casual remark from a while back. When I got a "weakness on this tooth", I hit the big red button. Good call -- it seriously merited intervention, but wasn't that ugly for the restoration.

488 484 Some things are painful for some people and not for others. I can get cut and stitched up without skipping dessert. When my feet or hands get really cold, then start warming up it's so painful I wish to be buried alive rather than deal with that
________
Or maybe just tolerance of pain?
I just had this conversation with a friend. I have stitches from the top of my head (literally), to my lip, chin, all the way down. Various places - not one big zipper. Broken bones all over.
Last summer, I pulled a shard of metal out of my eyeball with a pair of needle-nose pliers & went back to my work.

Needles don't bother me a lick. Tooth pain? Just go ahead and knock me out. Like you - the cold extremities is almost enough to make me cry. Posted by: shredded chi at February 12, 2014 03:54 AM (hQIXB) Hide posts from (hQIXB)

Ick, ick, ick, ick, ick -- will you knock it off with the eyeball thing? You could grind the entire left-side, lower, down to stumps before I'd want to deal with that.

If you want snow, a visit by the snow man should do it.

499 I'm up early waiting for the snow/icemageddon to hit here in Upstate SC.  I've been here 16 years and have never heard this kind of doom.  Store shelves are stripped bare.  I have no idea what the day will bring, but it doesn't look pretty.  Hang in there Vic, Sven and BigNJames.  Stay safe, all GA and SC 'rons.

This can't be.  I just heard the newsies a couple days ago say we're headed for extinction if we don't tax the hell out of ourselves and reduce our carbon emissions.  We may be headed for extinction, but I've got a feeling we'll all end up like Jack Nicholson at the end of The Shining[/] instead.

I'm not going anywhere.  Just staying in and hoping the power doesn't go out.  Years ago, we had an ice storm here that left us without power for 4 days.  It was then that I was 100% certain I wouldn't make it as a pioneer woman.  I forgot OSP in that list, too.  Think he's over in Simpsonville.  Do we get a t-shirt if we survive?

Posted by: Lady in Black, doesn't want a 4' Vermont Teddy Bear for Valentine's Day at February 12, 2014 01:37 AM (Oa7B2)

506 We damn well better, Lady. If we're gonna get a butt kicking, a t-shirt should follow. Hoping for the best as far as power goes, but prepared for the worst. Already radio reports of road icing around me (NW Atl suburbs).

510 NCJ. Just preparing for the coming apocalypse They're forecasting up to a half of inch of freezing rain here on top of the 4-5 inches of snow we got yesterday. Looks like Vic is gonna get the worst of it if he lives about where I think.

Well, it was just raining when I drove in this AM and it appears that so far we have dodged another bullet, unlike the millions of unemployed and now part time worker in the Obamacare socialist monarchial paradise formerly known as the United States.

Reports of the snowpocalypse seem to be a bit overblown at this time here in northern Alabama but it's still early. My money is on the coming ice storm, especially if the temps start falling.

What does it mean when you show up at your indoor range to shoot, and the owners want to buy YOUR 22lr ammo off you, cause they can't get any?

Yes, that's how we have it here.

Was in every walmart, Dick's and what not in the area the last two days.
Shelves are empty.
Online, nothing available at less then .14 a round.

Good luck, and enjoy the new one.
Shame about that pending boating accident though.

I'll take that.  Forecast for bitter cold and wind today and 6-12" snow tomorrow.  Add to that that I'm pissed off from Ace's posts yesterday, furious that some local loon wrote a letter to the local rag praising that nickelfucking commie Seeger and sitting here at work with depression, a headache and insomnia since I've been up since 3.00 am. . . .

. . .well, sometimes life does seem to have lost a bit of its charm.

524 I as working with a very nice friend at the food panty yesterday. There was another woman who said, "What's with all this cold weather? I thought we were having global warming?" The first lady responded. "Oh, but this is global warming. Any extremes in weather are because of global warming." I just thought it better to stay quiet and not say "Well, much of the evidence of global warming was faked in order to get grants" and "While humans may have a part in global warming this might be more related to sun activity and we may indeed be entering a mini ice age-we've had mini ice ages for thousands of years." It was probably even more prudent not to say, "It seems to me that for true believers anything is evidence for global warming-If it snows too much, if it doesn't snow, If there are storms, if there are not storms. If you want it to be an example of global warming it is.'

530 I ordered so many guns and ammunition I forgot what I ordered. I don't even count individual rounds of ammunition or forearms anymore. I just look at the weight. Anyone else have that problem? 2 shipments on the water arriving 2morrow..1 is 383 pounds of guns..followed by 85 pounds of ammunition. My 01 dealer called.. I have 45 pounds of stuff sitting there. And I have ordered more. Now for something different, lets all watch lady Moochell's diamond collar dogs suck up smoked salmon and caviar off white house plates. And you guys think I'm cRAZY?

532 Something I do not understand about the various Dem AGs and their "litigation veto" of refusing to defend duly-enacted laws they dislike: why have no bar complaints been filed against them, or if they have, why haven't we heard about it? They have a professional ethical obligation to be zealous advocates for their clients, the people of their states (or of the US in the case of, say, Holder refusing to defend DOMA). If they believe themselves personally incapable of doing so in a particular case, they have a concomitant obligation to withdraw from representing that client in that case, whereupon either they should request the court to appoint someone else to do so, or the court should do so sua sponte. Their position does not grant them the right to effectively deprive their client of any representation at all. Obviously I don't see the California Bar touching Jerry Brown no matter what he does. But the Virginia Bar v. Herring? Now that might be another story...
