You Could Be Here: Places in the US With the Most Pleasant Days per Year

Where a pleasant day is defined as one where the mean temperature is between 55 and 75 degrees.

Unsurprisingly Southern California comes out on top with 180+ pleasant days. The worst is central Montana which gets about 3 weeks of pleasant days every year.

I decided to take a stab at what constitutes a "pleasant" day and then aggregate NOAA data for the last 23 years to figure out the regions of the United States with the most (and least) pleasant days in a typical year. The results, I think, are not that surprising and pretty much affirm the answer given off the cuff by many of my west coast friends when asked about the best places, "Southern California?" For the areas with the least pleasant days, I admit I would have guessed North Dakota. However, it's much of Montana that gets an average of a couple of weeks of pleasantness each year.

The live chart is here. Darker blue means more pleasant days per year.

Eco-Fascism Watch: Actual Torch-Wielding Mobs

Who appeared and protested at an oil company executive's home at 10pm one night.

Eight environmental activists gathered on the lawn of Mark Maki, a member of the Enbridge Energy Company's board of directors and president of Enbridge Energy Management, to protest the arrests of three anti-pipeline activists last year.

The protesters, who brandished torches for a photo posted online, held a sign warning, "solidarity means attack" and "we will shut you down."

Maki stepped out of his Houston, Texas, home to talk with the protesters, though he said he was not familiar with their grievances.

"It's 10 o' clock at night, I'm happy to discuss it, [but] not here, not in my neighborhood, not with my neighbors around," Maki told them.

As protesters stood on Maki's lawn, they told him that Enbridge is "criminalizing protest" by testifying against three anti-pipeline activists who were recently convicted of criminal trespassing for chaining themselves to Enbridge construction equipment in July.

"Tell the rest of the [Enbridge] board they can expect visits," one protester at Maki's house said.

Enbridge did not respond to a request for comment.

Asked which group they belonged to, the protesters said they represented "The People."

Well all they're lacking now are the white hoods. Of course this is in Texas so I'm guessing Mr. Maki and the other members of the board are discreetly packing some firepower in case the mob becomes unruly.

Kevin D. Williamson: The Feminist Mystique

A useful definition is this: "Feminism is the words 'I Want!' in the mouths of three or more women, provided they're the right kind of women." Feminism must therefore accommodate wildly incompatible propositions - e.g., (1) Women unquestionably belong alongside men in Marine units fighting pitched battles in Tora Bora but (2) really should not be expected to be able to perform three chin-ups. Or: (1) Women at Columbia are empowered by pornography but (2) women at Wellesley are victimized by a statue of a man sleepwalking in his Shenanigans. And then there is Fluke's Law: (1) Women are responsible moral agents with full sexual and economic autonomy who (2) must be given an allowance, like children, when it comes to contraceptives.

How the US Government Spent 7 Years and Millions of Dollars Harassing a Student and Crying 'Terrorism' To Cover Up a Paperwork Error

And they likely knew it was a mistake early on but moved heaven and earth to cover it up rather than just admit it. Apparently the Holder DOJ has been taking some lessons from the Italian justice system.

After seven years of litigation, two trips to a federal appeals court and $3.8 million worth of lawyer time, the public has finally learned why a wheelchair-bound Stanford University scholar was cuffed, detained and denied a flight from San Francisco to Hawaii: FBI human error.

FBI agent Kevin Kelley was investigating Muslims in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2004 when he checked the wrong box on a terrorism form, erroneously placing Rahinah Ibrahim on the no-fly list.

What happened next was the real shame. Instead of admitting to the error, high-ranking President Barack Obama administration officials spent years covering it up. Attorney General Eric Holder, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and a litany of other government officials claimed repeatedly that disclosing the reason Ibrahim was detained, or even acknowledging that she'd been placed on a watch list, would cause serious damage to the U.S. national security. Again and again they asserted the so-called "state secrets privilege" to block the 48-year-old woman's lawsuit, which sought only to clear her name.
...Ibrahim was a Stanford University doctoral student in architecture and design from Malaysia and was headed to Hawaii to give a paper on affordable housing. Wheelchair-bound after just having a hysterectomy, she was handcuffed, detained for hours at San Francisco International Airport and denied her pain medication until paramedics arrived in 2005. She was eventually released and allowed to fly to her home country of Malaysia.

She sued, seeking to learn if she was on the no-fly list and to clear her name. Her case ping-ponged across the legal landscape for years as the government tried everything it could to have the lawsuit tossed.

The woman was even barred a return flight for her own trial. So was one of her daughters, a U.S. born American citizen, who witnessed her mother's humiliation at the San Francisco airport.

NY Glock Laser-Wielding Director of Homeland Security Given Retroactive Gun Permit

Not only did Jerome M. Hauer sweep the audience while using the laser sight on his Glock as a pointer during a presentation but it turns out he didn't even have a permit to carry the gun that he routinely wears. Not a problem - Gov. Cuomo gave him a retroactive permit. It's good being a member of The Party.

Kazakhstan to Drop the 'Stan' From Its Name Because They're Tired of Being Confused With Other, Poorer Hellhole Stans

Kazakhstan's President may drop the 'stan' from his country's name to distinguish his booming oil-rich nation from the rest of Central Asia, where the other so-called stans are mostly mired in poverty.

The world's ninth largest nation by area with a population of just 17 million, Kazakhstan is the largest economy of the post-Soviet region, which also includes Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan

Nursultan Nazarbayev, who visited the nation's oil capital Atyrau in western Kazakhstan on Thursday afternoon, said a new name like Kazakh Eli, which stands for 'The Land of Kazakhs', would be more eye-catching for a foreigner studying the region's map.

Is Private Aviation Dying?

"The Washington Post reports, 'In the past several decades, the number of private and recreational pilots across the country has plummeted, as has the number of small aircraft being manufactured - trends that some say have been accelerated by increasingly strict federal regulations. If the decline continues, it will spell trouble for entrepreneurs ... Since 1980, the number of pilots in the country has nosedived from about 827,000 in 1980 to 617,000, according to the Frederick, Md.-based Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. During about the same period, data from the General Aviation Manufacturers Association in Washington show that production of single-engine planes plunged from 14,000 per year to fewer than 700.'"

Ending Binary Gender in Fiction, or How to Murder Your Writing Career

A nice fisking by Larry Correia explaining why message fic is the death of good fiction.

Now, before we continue I need to establish something about my personal writing philosophy. Science Fiction is SPECULATIVE FICTION. That means we can make up all sorts of crazy stuff and we can twist existing reality to do interesting new things in order to tell the story we want to tell. I'm not against having a story where there are sexes other than male and female or neuters or schmes or hirs or WTF ever or that they flip back and forth or shit. robot sex. Hell, I don't know. Write whatever tells your story.

But the important thing there is STORY. Not the cause of the day. STORY.

Because readers buy STORIES they enjoy and when readers buy our stuff, authors GET PAID.

...You want a truth bomb? Readers hate being preached at. Period. Even when you agree with the message, if it is ham fisted and shoved in your face, it turns you off. Message fic for message fic's sake makes for tedious reading. Yet, as this stuff has become more and more prevalent, sci-fi has become increasingly dull, and readership has shrank.

Of course, the literati won't be happy until everything is boring ass message fic and nobody reads sci-fi anymore, because then they'll be super special snowflakes.

Lemon Bear Dick Punch - The Drink

Courtesy of MJ over at The Hostages.

Based on hours of research, countless nights spent mixing various ingredients, and perhaps divine inspiration, the H2 has given rise to (Lippy) a particularly interesting cocktail. Behold: the Lemon Bear.

This drink was taught to me by my late, great mixologist mentor, Richard. As he described, it was originally intended to be made for large parties and mimics the fizzy, sherbet induced punches that were popular in the '70s. This is an updated version.

The Lemon Bear

1.5 oz Citron Vodka

1 oz limoncello

1 oz finely grated orange rind

3 small scoops of lemon sorbet

1 oz Champagne

Place the scoops of sorbet in a cocktail glass. Place a few ice cubes in a cocktail shaker and mix the vodka, limoncello, orange rind and shake vigorously. Pour the strained mixture over the sorbet, and top with the Champagne.

Nothing keeps you warm on a frosty New England day than a lemon based concoction of alcohol and frozen desert.

Enjoy!

85 Left work when it was snowing like crazy, driving out of my parking lot my windshield wiper wobbled then flew off, had to drive down the street with sunglasses on (perscription) and my head out the window Ace Ventura style to a Jiffy Lube that was, thank god, open for a replacement. 2 hours to crawl 10 miles home (Boston), but I did see 3 Prii in a row completely blocking Centre Street in Newton, unable to get up a hill, stopping traffic for miles in all directions except mine as I inched by, so there's that. Fuck this Winter, seriously.

87 20 OK, I'll go first: anyone know of a decent brand of canned "Hot & Sour Soup"?

Dude. It's not going to can well, no matter what you do. It's a Chinese (Sichuan) fresh soup.

But, OK, I'll try. There's this Chinese brand, with a bright blue label...damn, can't find it on Google. I think it begins with "M". If anyone can do it, they would be able to. In any case, I suggest that you skip the Thai brands (unless you're casual about the "hot" meaning chili instead of black pepper, in which case they may be your best bet), get the most Chinese brand you can find, preferably blue, and view it as a starting point, adding fresh-ground black pepper and vinegar to give it a bite, and, preferably, adding some pork slivers marinated in soy and salt and a touch of cornstarch, for umami. Might work out OK.

Most of DC was shut down today, but not all of it.  I went to Arlington for the interment service for Chief Machinery Repairman Gary Martin, US Navy (Retired).  MIL's cousin's husband.  He was an old-school non-combat badass.  Wintered over in Antarctica.  Twice.  Back before the internet or instantaneous communication with family.  Cold and drizzly, with a lot of snow on the ground.  Seemed appropriate.  Navy Honor Guard looked sharp too.

94 76 That map makes Florida look pretty nice, when actually it's only hellishly hot 307.4 days per year. Nice stats!

It makes the Pacific Northwest look like a paradise, because it defines a day where it is dark and entirely overcast and drizzly as a "nice day", as long as it doesn't get below 45 degrees.

124 I would choose DFW over Houston any day. DFW has tons of great suburbs where you can live freely and richly. Houston really only has two, and honestly neither are really as good as anything DFW has to offer IMO. Plus Houston is super, super left leaning. Dallas is as well, but the surrounding area is all conservative. I mean, obviously it depends on what type of work you do too, but my pick is DFW. Of course, you also have to decide Hurricanes or Tornadoes? Again, Austin is the happy middle ground. We don't get hit by either nearly as much. But, the aforementioned hippies and hipsters. If you want to avoid hippies, hipsters, and most of the bad weather, New Braunfels is pretty perfect. The only down side is that it's really in the San Antonio metro and San Antonio is run by the Crazy Castros.

142 So.....I've got this little PSA.....but I'm not sure I've got it right. So I'll tell you both what I'm sure and unsure of, and we can figure it out together.

You may recall that Joffen's sister had found me. She's been here.....and, more to the point, she's been there, and along the way she has formed an impression of you scruffy lot. As it turns out, she's also the moderator for the Joffen guestbook and wants me to let you know that while you may certainly leave an actual email address, instead of some bogus gmail like x998b5d16, she would understand if you use the latter. BTW, if you do use that one, she'll recognize it.

Unfortunately, I was somewhat distracted by her shaking me by the scruff of my neck, so I'm not absolutely certain if she really wanted only Al-Anon style first names or if "short and family-friendly" versions of nics were generally ok. You can now find examples of both there. Either way, she understand that Joffen's friends-in-a-box may prefer a measure of anonymity.

Nazarbayev is STILL prez of Kazakhstan?  Dude took power when I was working on projects in the former Onion (USSR).  Now I kind of understand there's not a whole lot of dynamism or turnover in fair countries such as that, but geez, he's gotta be pushing 80.   My favorite strongman in the 'stans was in Turkmenistan, where his title was not some prissy 18th century thing like "president", but translated roughly as "horseman of the Turks".

Favorite wild story of that era (which is saying something) was when some Iranian asshole (Rafsanjani?) dignitary visited.  Customary gift of a beautiful white horse was presented.  Like an idiot, he climbed up on it (he was no horseman), and it took off like a shot.  I recall the cable describing the apoplectic Iranian security guys chasing after the runaway horse.  VP Gore was presented with the horse gift too - as I recall there was a brief diplomatic/logistic crisis deciding what the hell to do with it so as not to offend.  You'd think anticipating such stuff is what an embassy is for.

196 ManWithNoParty, I'm late and Lauren has already given you great advice that I'll second. To be fair to Houston, it has a much lower cost of living than most of the other big cities in TX. You can buy a house with a pool for 150K in North Houston in a nice neighborhood, but the city itself is really detiorating. Great restaurants too. Whoever suggested Fort Worth, Yes. Arlington also. Hope that helps.

197 I understand that it can actually attract water vapor from the air and slowly build it up in your gas tanks and fuel lines..xx

If you remember the gasoline antifreeze that people in the north used to buy. The water getting/attracting of ethanol was why people added them to old non ethanol gas. And yes new ethanol gas attracts/collects water.

But it dried up yesterday and my left nostril is burning and itching and my brain feels like it's operating in a fog. I take zyrtec, benedryl at night, and flonase and my nose still itches and burns and runs. But Texas is great!!!! But this time, I was tempted, because I bought Sodium Citrate, and I have only recently learned that this is the magic "turn real cheese into a compliant slurry that resembles fake cheese" chemical. I want the world to know that I will soon have mastery over all the cheeses of the world. I will be able to tell them to coat whatever I want them to coat.

Pleasant weather? Got up in the high 80s today, so I watered the citrus and the herbs. Will run some sprinklers tonite to give a drink to some succulents on the canyon bank. And there are a hell of a lot more than 180 pleasant days in America's Finest City. Yes, the populace is predominantly worthless and I'd rather they all moved to Chad or North Korea, but seeing as the country is firmly in the grip of the clueless and un-American at most levels, and the institutions have rotted and collapsed, might as well have perfect climate and easy access to the ocean, the desert, and mountains.

Oddly enough, I'm dying for some snow, specifically to do some x-c skiing (or better, a lot of x-c skiing).   May have to drive up to CO.  Wish I had founded some stupid internet chatting/dithering firm and now had a private jet to take me to Quebec City for weekends.  Always great snow and great eats.

I keep it around too -- it's an essential ingredient when making your own tonic water, which is only 2,000 times as awesome in a gin-and-tonic as the stuff you can buy. But the chemists have their subtleties, and apparently this is one of them. What I've read is that citric acid is in no way a substitute for sodium citrate, if your goal is to bend cheese to your will. So even though I had citric acid around, I ordered some sodium citrate.

243 Man with no party, I'm with Lauren in Austin. I like it here, came from San Antonio about 13 years ago. yeah there are a lot of leftist and a bunch of elite leftist. You just have to find the right areas to live, there are still some conservatives around, usually on the edges like the SW, W, NW, N sides and the suburbs in those directions. The draw back to Austin is the cost of living, i.e. housing market is tight/ expensive. In SW Austin you can't really find anything under $300k. N and NW is more affordable and the farther out you go the less expensive but the traffic is a nightmare. I don't commute, I live in a conservative area, I'm not too far from a lot of things so I really like it here. It is a fun town and the hippies are fun to laugh at.

267 237 >>>it's an essential ingredient when making your own tonic water, which is only 2,000 times as awesome in a gin-and-tonic as the stuff you can buy.
Your recipe. I must have it.

Sure, OK. It started with this: http://tinyurl.com/cpf75qd

But I needed to adjust it, because it didn't seem right to me, although it seemed close.

First, there is a lot of hassle in filtering it with all that sugar, so why not make a sugar-free syrup, and add that later if you want? I'm on Atkins, so I add Splenda, but it's also true that the sugar makes it MUCH harder to filter.

Second, the cinchona. Do NOT get powder. I don't remember where I got mine, but look at the pictures, and get some cinchona that comes in little chunks.

The lemongrass was too much, the lime too little, the cinchona too little, and coriander seed seemed like a right addition to me, and it was, so here is what I make now:

4 cups water
5 limes
one orange
one good-sized stalk lemongrass
1 TBSP whole coriander seed, very fresh (you want it to smell citrusy still)
4 TBSP cinchona bark

Put the water in a saucepan. Add cinchona chunks. Zest the limes and the orange using a microplane grater, and add zest to the pan. Add lemongrass with the dirty outer layers removed, and cut into 1/4" slices, and coriander seed. Bring to a gentle simmer. Simmer 10 minutes. Juice the limes (but not the orange! I did this once and wound up with gelatin) and add the lime juice and bring to a simmer and simmer 10 minutes more. Take it off the heat and let sit until cool. Pour into sterilized jar (I pour boiling water and let sit 10 minutes). You now have a very good quantity of unsweetened tonic water syrup.

I make a gin and tonic by adding 1 1/2 oz gin and 3/4T syrup and 1-2 drops of liquid Splenda (substitute the appropriate amount of Simple Syrup if you do not have Metabolic Syndrome) to a glass, and using the soda syphon to get to your desired volume. It is a treat. If you have only had G&T with commercial tonic, it is a treat that does not even resemble what you have had before.

268 furthermore, the douchebag's map says chicago's nicest days are in june, july, august, and september. i mean wtf. i lived in chicago for 9 years. you get roughly 2 weeks of great weather on either end of the transition between 6 months of shit. these happen around the beginning of may and the beginning of october. to say that 95 degrees and 95% humidity all summer is perfect weather takes some balls. sometimes it's literally hard to breathe outside it's so oppressive in the summer months. you will be drenched in a pool of sweat just standing outside, not moving, for a half hour

274 I forgot to mention that the tonic water syrup should be filtered through your finest strainer, or, if that's too coarse, use cheesecloth. If you used sugar, it would have been a real pain to filter, but the way I make it, it's very manageable.

332 On knitting and nuc-u-lar reactions: Navy had a small gaseous diffusion plant (for a sub power notion) that they knew would work, and when Oak Ridge seemed to be going a little slowly, the decision was taken to just scale up the gas unit. The hardest technical challenge was producing filter grid of sub-micron size, which apparently had never been done before in extremely hard and corrosion-resistant metal wires. Achieving that mesh was the key to the success of the whole project -- and so you might say that high-volume fission was, in fact, a knitting project. There's a chapter on it in Rhodes' Making of The Atomic Bomb. No patterns, though. Purl two.

336 fairweather, you forgot to mention those dinosaurs strolling around! I know it, spent a week wandering trails there in a Jeep six years ago, drove the Going-to-the-Sun the first day it was open (4th of July), soaked in a hot spring, got some of the last of the spring whitefish, God it was awful and I will never go back. Lousy steaks too.

Sorry for you, pal.

337 Sure, but most winters lately all you need is a silly little "electric broom", which is useless for a storm like this, and I don't feel like dropping a couple grand on a big machine (which is what I would have needed today) that'll only rust out between uses.

353 @341 Oh, MdeVille, I wish I could look at it that way. Unless you mean moving to China. The most successful mid-career engineer we knew made that move. And one of our hotter prospects to come out of a civilian program could not wait to get over to Bahrain where the real action was. Was. Luckily for him his prospects didn't pan out, so he's been forced to be successful in the same state with his parents -- which makes him feel like he's living in their basement.

I don't see occupational mobility as the status symbol that most people do. I'd like to think that, after he's done what he can to defend the country, the kid might be well enough established to work independently, or at least consult from a home base. I passed up some chances for professional adventure so I could remain on my family's traditional holdings, and though I made less ready cash, I'm sure I ended up with a higher standard of living for it.

But, he has several big moves on tap courtesy of Uncle, and then at least a couple of years teaching on that awful Rampart Range. I kind of hope he gets "moving" out of his system. There's some land here I'd like to leave him.

376 Poll: Thumbs down on Vladimir Putin, Russia http://tinyurl.com/lwqavf5 What is interesting about this: This is probably what Putin wants. The loss of prestige that Russia has gone through since the Soviet Union fell has been reflected in how we see them (we have taken them less and less seriously.) So the more he can do to make us see them as an enemy (or take them seriously) the better. So he's got that going for him.

Hetch Hetchy water actually was rated the best water supply in the US a couple of decades ago. Also, Calso mineral water -- a completely synthetic mineral water that was sought worldwide -- was based on it.

Some people's kids. The apostrophe goes in FRONT of the second word or word fragment in a contraction, not the middle, so of course the proper spelling of the contraction "you all" would be "y'all". Where the hell he gets "ya'll" I'll never know.

444 The winters of 77-78 and 78-79 had some very inconvenient snowfalls in Ohio. Quarry loaders were pressed into service to clear streets. In a fit of civic responsibility, several cities hereabouts resolved never to buy a truck that wasn't snowplow-ready. So municipal half-tons disappeared, and every pickup had a front subframe welded in. There followed the mildest winters of my lifetime, which lasted the whole service life of that generation of trucks.

Most of us smiled and shrugged, you know, umbrella to prevent rain, until these snotnose little bastards came along and blamed global warming on our engines. Some scientists, can't even understand how Murphy's Law works. If we hadn't bought all those plow trucks, the winters would not have changed.

It sure cured those towns of that planning-ahead shit, though.

467 Just got back from a public relations event in SF. Sort of a swanky soiree to impress media members. One of the PR chicks had an Hispanic last name. From Miami. As we chatted, during the course of the conversation, it came out, as expected, that her parents were Cuban. "How'd they get to Miami?" "On a raft." "Wow, kudos to them. Brave. Anything to get away from Castro, eh?" A look of relieved shock came over her face. "That's so rare, your attitude! I'm so glad! Yes, they were fleeing communism for a better life. But whenever I mention that I'm from 'Cuba' in this goddamn town [San Francisco], the person I'm talking to always waxes rhapsodic about how great Cuba is and how they went there as tourists recently under the phoney-baloney guise of some nonprofit. They think that just because I'm Cuban, I love Castro or something. It's so refreshing to talk to someone who understands!" "See that guy over there?" "Who?" "That guy. Wait til he turns around. See? He's wearing a Che shirt. What a fucking turd." "Hahahahaha, I can't believe you're saying that. My dad would love you. He knew people personally were were killed by Che. But no one here gets it. No one at all." "They're all a bunch of hypocritical morons. They don't know thing one about Che, but they think it's cool to love him. I'm going to go over there right now and ask that guy if he's wearing the shirt ironically, or is he serious." Secret anti-progressives lurk among us, even in SF.

482 It's at 32 degrees here so hopefully the melt will start early and go all day. Supposed to be in the mid 40's today. Next week is going to be back in the 60's, gotta love the weather in the south.

483 Morning all.... Woke up at 4 am wide awake....sigh. Anywho....here's a lil sumpin' to brighten your day: Iranian TV Mocks Obama: “He Should Take A Brick And Knock It Against His Head”… TV host: Obama said that companies that would trade with Iran, disregarding the sanctions, would put their credit score at risk. Then he added that any company that would violate the sanctions on Iran – America “will come down on them like a ton of bricks.” Listen to this… The U.S. would come down on that company like a ton of bricks. It would destroy it. Is America like a bogeyman? We don’t want to portray it like that, but Mr. Obama himself is insisting on imposing such an image. We keep saying that we are okay with America and its people, and so on. We keep trying to mend the relations, and then along comes Obama and says something that ruins it all. So this is my foreign policy advice to the Americans when dealing with Iran: First of all, Mr. Obama, don’t waste a ton of bricks. I sense a personal problem here… Instead of wasting a ton of bricks, take just one brick, and knock it against your head. Perhaps parts of his brain will swap places, and his perspective will change. How is it that I've come to agree with Iranian TV hosts?

Morning, all.

We got about a foot of snow yesterday, so ran the snowblower till it was out of gas.  I expected more, but was suprised when I got up this morning; warm (well, after yesterday, 35 is warm) and mainly thawing ice.  But another 3-6 inches is supposed to come around tomorrow, which pisses me off (though, if you knew me, you'd know almost everything pisses me off).

And here I am at work like a sucker.

490 Gonna be warm enough to ride the scooter to work today. And it's gonna be a glorious weekend to ride. Good morning people in boxes!

491 Correia is brilliant.  That fisking landed in the sci-fi community like a grenade in their organic fairtrade cornflakes.  They're still nursing their butthurt weeks later.  And his sales went up.  Go figure.

492 I understand Hawaii is a beautiful place. I wish you much happiness there. I'm quite content to have seen a line of pink under a few grey clouds which diffused a dusty pink to the rest of the sky and then the engoldening sunrise lighting up mounds of pristine snow on the dark fir trees. :^)

494 Thanks, folks for the kind words. I spend too much time here ;^) but when I don't. I usually try to post a hymn for the day before I hopefully go on to some other things and pop in every so often. I'm usually up early but I was up even earlier today (3;30-uggh) because the door was open and the cat was racing around getting exercise, I suppose but also trying to get me awake to feed her.

Bunch of my friends here in Denver area were planning rides yesterday, `sposed to be high 60`s Sunday. We`ll be on a roll according to forecast, 8 days of 50 pluss, shirtsleeve weather. Why I like it here, no humidity, no bugs, and shirtsleeves at 40.

Yeah, Correia is a master at his craft. I know I wouldn't want to be the object of his undivided attention.

498 The Lemon Bear...... So, in order to make this concoction, I'd have to send my man-servant out in my armored vehicle full of cash to buy all the ingredients. I don't even have the g'damn oranges on hand. As if, you could just buy 1.5 ounces of Citron Vodka, 1 ounce of Limoncello, 1 ounce of Champagne. Not to mention all the ingredients to make the sorbet. And then, I get the final insult: "Enjoy!" After deleting my entire bank account, and my man-servant demanding overtime pay.

499 Gotta say the "pleasant days" chart is right (okay, maybe a little optimistic) about Da Swamp, Noo Awlins.  Chart says 80 days a year; my personal feeling is that it's closer to 60.  Bugs, humidity, and the feeling that you're carrying a pound of warm slime on your skin under your clothes, for 10 months a year.

Gahhh.  Get me out of here.
