Interrogation Music

Some bonafide good songs on this and some truly awful ones that would be torture in all settings. CIA interrogation methods included these 21 songs, artists. Here's the list to save you having to click picture by picture.

1. "The Real Slim Shady" by Eminem
2. "Zikrayati (My Memories)" by Mohamed el-Qasabgi
3. Meow Mix commercial jingle
4. "I Love You" by Barney the dinosaur
5. "Babylon" by David Gray
6. "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack
7. "Take Your Best Shot" by the band Dope
8. "We Will Rock You" by Queen
9. "The Beautiful People" by Marilyn Manson
10. "F--- Your God" by the band Deicide
11. Tupac Shakur album "All Eyez on Me"
12. "Bodies" by the band Drowing Pool
13. Songs from "Sesame Street"
14. "Baby, One More Time" by Britney Spear
15. "Enter Sandman" by Metallica
16. "March of Pigs" by Nine Inch Nails
17. Songs by the band AC/DC
18. Songs by Prince
19. Songs by the band Red Hot Chili Peppers
20. Songs by the band Aerosmith
21. "Dirrty" by Christina Aguilera

So what songs would you morons use to torture/interrogate someone?

Modern "Art"

Does someone actually buy these "art" pieces? NSFW!!!!!! Performance artist fires ink-filled eggs out of her 'gina.

the creator of a performance piece titled "PlopEgg" - a name that is actually highly appropriate when you find out what the entire work involves.

Firstly she injects eggs with a variety of colourful inks and paint then shoves each egg deep inside her vaginal canal. And for the grand finale, she then "gives birth" by pushing and ejecting the eggs out onto a canvas, causing them to smash and create all manner of abstract shapes.

And all this, whilst stark naked in full public view.

Redneck NASA

Pretty sad these folk are doing more rocketry than NASA is.

Car Stuff

The Mad Max remake isn't coming out until next year, but his car was unveiled for the upcoming video game.

This would be a pretty sweet idea if it lasted longer than a year. Nissan's dirt-phobic paint keeps a car spotless for the duration of a PR video.

Wondercon

Gun Control

Ridiculous. Students playing "Nerf Gun Wars" cited by police and placed on academic probation.

Naked Beer Festival

This sounds like trouble. Mere coincidence it is happening around the NoVa moron meetup? PA resort to hold naked beer festival.

Furniture For Cats

Evidently, a desk for cat owners. I still want the Constanza desk for work though.

29 "the creator of a performance piece titled "PlopEgg" - a name that is actually highly appropriate when you find out what the entire work involves." As gross as this is, I think vag-knitter's Gross "Art" Award is safe. How much German (?) tax monies were used to pay this woman for her education and her "art"? 1 Euro is too damn much.

138 "Is that all there is" is truly one of the worst. Good catch, Hugh. Even as a kid I would literally run as fast as I could to the radio to turn it off. It's one of those songs that gets stuck in my OCD head and depresses me for weeks at a time.

Posted by: qdpsteve at April 26, 2014 06:49 PM (HVI5a)

139 Depends on the Peter Gabriel - if it is enhanced interrogation music or not. There was a talk show that, well you know they play "bumper music" to transition from commercial to programming. Today I heard on it an instrumental section from Genesis' Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, one of the passing sections leading up to ...I dunno, I think it was the Slipper Men section. Am still twitching on that one. (slowly I turned, step by step...)

141 The songs on the list are either brain-damagingly insipid (David Gray), or else were written specifically to annoy people (usually parents: Marilyn Manson). One exception. "March of the Pigs". I think, there, Reznor was trying to do something not normally done in popular music. That and he was torturing himself at the time. Anyway it probably wouldn't work at torturing *me*, and I'm not sure about the mujahids either (since a lot of them came to Islam through the Bâb al-Emo).

142 The Final Countdown by Europe. It was ok when it came out. After the 50 billioneth playing of it, I wanted to nuke Europe (the band and the continent). Maybe playing that for mooslim terrorists would not be a good idea then. Like they need a reason to blow shit up.

144 Judy Collins' "Send in the Clowns" is another song I just can't enjoy or even listen to. Other songs on my verboten list, mainly because I find them beyond-weird sounding earworms that depress me: - "Walk Away Renee" by the Left Banke - "Telstar" by the Tornados/Joe Meek (who I read was really a weirdo) - "My Ding-a-Ling" by Chuck Berry (I know it's supposed to be just a funny novelty, but still) - "Sukiyaki" by ??? (I always imagine all the horrible overfried Asian meals people had to choke down while listening to it) ...and only recently, I found I can't enjoy "You Light Up My Life" anymore.

161 I've been completely unable to convince myself to like traditional Japanese music (partly due to the seeming lack of instrument variety) and this seems like an interesting option. - I have eclectic tastes. When I bought some koto music my daughter was convinced I had lost my mind. I also love Yo-Yo Ma's Japanese Album. When I listen to it I envision Japanese destroyers sliding down the Slot off Guadcanal at midnight similarly to the way I envision Luftwaffe bombers over London when I listen to Holt's Mars, Bringer of War. Maybe I have lost my mind.

Also The Pina Colada Song. Or just play the IPod that Obama gave to the Queen of England, with all of his speeches on it. I heard she listened to half of it, and confessed to being Jack the Ripper.

Am not a fan. Am not a fan after 3 seconds of ABBA.

They just have that register that makes everything that is hateful about the 70's visceral.

Nowadays everyone would be arrested or expelled I guess. Yet somehow we played this game without anybody dying cause it was just a fun game.

307 I think everyone is going about this song thing all wrong.

You want to create the most offensive lyrics in the terrorists native language, and play them repeatedly set to the most annoying tunes imaginable, like the "Inspector Gadget" theme song.

And you set the music to videos of the Prophet Mohammad having epileptic seizures on the floor, looks lovingly at goats dressed in wigs and makeup, and using a Koran to roll up joints during an orgy of naked guys.

If you're going to make them suffer, freaking make them suffer.

All you Moody Blues haters can spend the night in The Barrel.

And that's before Axel the Chick has steam cleaned the damned thing.

This thread is just chok-fulla damn good torture music.  Seasons in the Sun, the chief offender.  Anything Bobby Goldsboro, worthy of a Barrel life sentence.

But the Moody Blues?  Some damn fine early symphonic rock.  Even better with about six shots o' fine bourbon, and an http://www.elcubanocigarrs.com  stogie.

The long form of "Ride my See Saw", is epic speeding ticket music.

If you want to know what it's really supposed to sound like, google ebay, and bid on a Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs version, remastered on the Ultradisk, 24k gold CD.   You'll spend to get it, but you'll be wonderfully rewarded.

Barring that, don't diss on the Moody Blues library.  Yeah, some trite pop in there.  But some damn fine, complex and powerful symphonic rock in the bargain.  I'll count you just a "joiner" if you mewlishly join the braying pack in putting it down.

That said, if you offer refined commentary deconstructing their work, and explaining your reasons, I'll listen.....  likely won't fully agree, but I'll listen.

But the other cliff-jumping lemmings?

Barrel.  Enjoy your evening.

I remember this being on the radio 24/7 (I lived in Marin at the time), and the only escape was the plentiful drugs available in most candy dishes at my friend's houses. http://youtu.be/w-YaWE0zu-c You will vomit, you have been warned.

There were many other "Also-Rans" during that time who didn't have a "horn section".

506 Torture is anything Dylan sings. His songs are great, but that voice! Augh! Also anything by Journey is torture to me. Just listened to too much of it back in the day. The ONLY version of "Send In The Clowns" that is even remotely acceptable is by Sarah Vaughn. I actually never understood that song until I heard her sing it. But otherwise, yeah, pretty gruesome. But the worst has to be "It's A Small World". God Almighty, but after only one time thru that stupid ride at Disney, I thought I would lose my mind. Refused to take the kids thru it on subsequent trips. Fun thread tonight!

Posted by: Buckeye Katie at April 26, 2014 08:50 PM (1M/xn)

507 So, I was just musing about the music.....and was thinking about music you'd subject the subject to and music where the subject and interrogator would have to listen to it together....and it reminded me of a story.

The BH fiancee and I have three godkids in Sacramento. The oldest is now in college. Anyway, as godparents are wont to do, we'd occasionally have 'em visit and spoil 'em rotten -- rev 'em up and do all sorts of odd/weird/fun/interesting things. But then you get back to the house and you really want them to leave you alone so you can compose yourself and get to sleep.

You couldn't use broadcast television, because the next thing you knew they'd be (a) watching Skinemax at 3 am; (b) watching Spongebob at 3 am; or (c) hiding from some scary monster from a horror film at 3 am. But we had just the thing.

William Ackerman, a bay-area guitarist, had formed a record label called Windham Hill, that tended to do eclectic, soft, mostly instrumental music. To help popularize it, they did videos where a sampler of their artists would provide the soundtrack for soothing images from nature. As an example, "Water's Path" starts with condensed fog on a leaf collecting into a droplet, then follows the drop to a trickle, the trickle to a stream [not "a whisper to a scream"!] the stream to a river, the river to the ocean, and ends at the beach.

These were perfect because they were videos, and kids demanded videos.....but they were soothing, calming, restful, and ultimately pointless -- and that allowed the tired kids' exhaustion to catch up with 'em.

So this became a running joke. Put on your jammies, get in bed, and watch the "Boring Movies". Each had a joke name: "Water's Path" was "Watching Water Drip";  "Autumn Portrait" became "Watching Leaves Fall"; "Western Light" became "Watching Paint Dry"; and "Tibet" was known as "Watching it be Cold". And we'd elaborately set them up, hit play, and run out of the room lest we be found on the floor, asleep, in the morning [in reality, we'd regularly make sure they were ok and turn things off after they all fell asleep].

So I was just thinking of what running gags would grow up between interrogators and their subjects. "OK, I'm going to put the Barney song on for 24 hours, then run out of the room before it corrodes my sanity....."

Anyway, a few years later Cobain's head really would explode and that was that for Nirvana. Foo Fighters came out of the ashes of Nirvana and they are still a better band.

573 Songs that make me want to open a vein: Gilbert O'Sullivan, *Alone Again, Naturally* Carly Simon, *That's The Way I've Always Heard it Should Be* Helen Reddy, *Angie Baby* The Eagles, *Hotel California* And, it should go without saying, anything by Gordon freakin' Lightfoot. Shudder.

Terry Jacks, "Seasons in the Sun," and

Lobo. "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo."

I Pray and I Pray and I Pray.

You "Just Do".

You get informed and prepared.  You ask informed questions.  You GO.

I ask God, (on a nightly basis), to Bless you.  May your Brother, Paul find Blessed Love, as well.

I pray to have your strength, ma'am.  Ironically, your backbone aliments belie your spinal resolve.

Your backbone is stronger than mine, quite often.  More often that I'd like to admit.

And acetylene has a lot of oomph to it, both explosively, and as a fuel for welding torches. With oxygen, it burns REAL hot.

"Dear Mum --

I am doing well in my studies here. My professors seem satisfied with my progress and continually praise me for my results at night when we're all economizing on power. The cookies that you sent were marvelous. If I had any small grumble it would with my neighbors -- on the one side, he screams and moans like a wild thing, and on the other side, there's a loud pounding, like he's trying to drive his head through the wall.

I don't know what to do with these people, so I quietly continue practicing my bagpipes.

670 WZ is sure depressing today.  Oh course, all of the news is.  We may be doomed.

671 Gonna start Sunday breakfast which is traditionally eggs, potatoe (Quayle spelling) pancakes with apple sauce some bacon and a shot of whiskey with some coffee. A depressing world is better faced with a full stomach and some whiskey, mostly whiskey.

677 If I were to torture someone with a song, I'd just play "Push The Little Daisies" by Ween. Over and over and over again. Sure, I'd probably be brought up on charges of crimes against humanity, but I'd get my questions answered, dammit. Do NOT click this link. No, seriously, I mean it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PAzqBUNlCs

680 Morning all, Semi-random ammo update. 22lr availability below .08 per round has sucked for about the last ten days. 9mm is everywhere at .26 per round, and .223 is showing up regularly online for about .33-.35 per round. And it is supposed to rain for the next four days. PSP's Mid-Atlantic Open will be next weekend at Chesapeake City Maryland, so we will be spending the weekend watching some of the best speedball players in the world of paintball. Hope it's not too muddy that weekend.
