Regrets, I've Had A Few The One: Poll Finds That Seven In Ten Obama Voters Regret Having Voted to Reelect Him in 2012
— Ace

R E T R A C T E D

As AllahPundit explains, this claim is so misleading and twisted as to be not only insupportable, but indefensible.

This entire post is retracted in red-faced error. YouGov is now changing their claim.

I won't ever link them again.

...

71%, according to a new Economist/YouGov poll.

However, the poll does not detect much new enthusiasm for Romney, either, because you know he gave a dog a gay haircut and then cancer.

Still, given the choice of Obama versus Romney, Obama supporters said they would stick with their guy, 79 percent to 10 percent for Romney.

But 10% of Obama's 53.5% is about 5.35% of the vote. Would that have turned the election?

As for Romney, his favorable ratings have dropped, but he would edge Obama by about three million votes, probably because Americans are not wowed by Obama's second term performance, not because they like Romney more.

Now, this being politics and political writers needing easy stories, you know what this means: Time for a second third look at Romney? As in Romney 2016?

But in recent weeks, a strange thing has happened: Some supporters and donors, pollsters and pundits are starting to suggest — without irony — that the former Massachusetts governor run for president in 2016.
“Once a month, someone would e-mail or call and say he should run again,” said Ron Kaufman, a longtime Romney adviser. “Now I get it every day — from the grass roots, and from donors. I get it every day.”

Exit question: Is this for real?

Exit answer: No.

9 I'm kinda speechless. A branch of the San Jose Public Library is hosting a public film screening tomorrow as part of a series presented by an academic department at San Jose State University (which is a legitimate college). It's a documentary. Libraries, academic departments, documentaries. Something boring for sure, your mind is thinking. Are you sitting down? Here is the event listing: http://www.indybay.org/uploads/2014/02/05/flyer_-_ahm_film_series_-_sjsu_-_201402_1_1.jpg And -- really, make sure your mouth is empty and you're sitting down -- here is the 2-minute YouTube trailer for the film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noFwrMOF2lI I couldn't stop laughing for about ten minutes, but then my laughter turned to tears and I have been weeping ever since, with the realization that these people have more social stuatus, money and power than I do. You want doom? This is doom.

10 Well, Jeb Bush will be aggressively courting Romney to play the role of the elder statesman of the Republican party.

Romney will support Bush, and we will have President Eleanor Holmes Norton.

Kinda like my idea for Flying Car is to take a regular car and make it so it can fly -- please give me a million dollars so I can make my invention a reality. Here's a video of my Flying Car invention. You'll notice it looks like a regular car but it can fly. My plan is that I will take a regular car and make it so it can fly. This will require a lot of technology. That's where you come in. Please give me money for my amazing invention. I also have an idea for Hoverboard like in Back to the Future. My plan involves taking a regular skateboard and, using technology, making it hover. I've invented a lot of amazing things. I've made the drawings and videos and everything ... all that's left is the technology part.

144 If you open up the bedside drawer in a hotel room, you’ll likely find a bible. But starting on March 1, the Iowa State University’s Hotel Memorial Union will be removing these bibles from its guest rooms. The decision came after a guest complained to the Freedom From Religion Foundation about the “unwelcome religious propaganda in the bedside table.” “Personally I don’t think they’re really forcing anything on anybody,” said Iowa State University student Will Determan. But the FFRF disagreed. According to its staff attorney, providing one religious text over another is an illegal endorsement by the state-run university. The hotel plans on moving the bibles downstairs to the browsing library. While the library has limited hours, the hotel’s 24-hour front desk is able to unlock the room if a guest makes a request. ???? Forget the Lawyers, we have to kill all the educators first

How? I'm not being snarky, since Knowing Stuff Is Awesome, how is it possible to use the internet for polling with actual methodology?

I took some statistics and you would need an expert, but if 500 people at random can give plus/minus 95% within 2 deviations, there must be a number at which can give you the same of self selected participants.*

I suspect it is pretty huge like 5 or 50 million.

*if everybody who voted last time also self selected a survey, you would have 100% confidence at no deviation.

You're probably being facetitious, but I'd vote for Sarah Palin in a heartbeat. I think she's the real deal, a genuinely principled and capable leader. However, I also think she'd lose the crucial female demographic to Hillary, and with it the election.

Another thing, too: the Democrats/MSM worked hard to portray Palin as a dumbass chillbilly way out of her league, and succeeded.  I don't know that kind of branding by character assassination can be undone.

Of course, anything can happen between now and 2016. There's an economic catastrophe bearing down like the proverbial freight train, Iran is on the cusp of going nuclear, and other assorted bad guys are making their move, sensing weakness and itching for advantage all over the world.  Look at it this way:  if WWII hadn't happened, Winston Churchill would've remained a noisy but ineffectual backbencher for the entirety of his political career.

End federal paychecks for congress and let their states pay them a restricted salary no more than 3 times the poverty rate. No lifetime benefits for those fuckers or presidents. No.

I was disappointed when she decided not to run, but she never said she would, so she didn't deceive anyone. What should she have done with the money her PAC collected? She used it to promote conservative candidates. Rubio has been a disappointment on amnesty, but he is still lightyears ahead of what we would have has with Crist. I hate McCain as much as I hate any backstabbing SOB that is supposed to be on my team, but McCain and Palin appear to have some kind of truce between them since their campaign. 295 That worked out real well with La Palin. Posted by: BlueStateRebel at February 18, 2014 02:46 PM (7ObY1) The Media were not so vicious when Reagan ran for President. As a matter of fact, I suspect it is Reagan's terms in office which helped to transform the press into a far more vicious propaganda corp. After George HW Bush won the election after Reagan, the Press went nuts trying to figure out ways to torpedo Bush's re-election chances. They finally succeeded with the "It's the Economy Stupid" meme. But as anyone can plainly see, it's only "the Economy Stupid", when the media decide it's the economy, and repeat their damaging attacks daily for six months prior to the election. (As they did to George HW Bush.) With Obama, they couldn't push the economy, so they decided "It's not the Economy Stupid." "It's Haircuts! It's dogs on roofs! It's Binders full of Women!" It's Tax Returns! It's anything that makes Romney look bad!" "It's the MEDIA Stupid."

300 I was actually just having this conversation on Romney several times actually in the past few months. It's come up a couple of times in various blogs/news sites. Romney again... no! but there is caveat to that no. The man, if he had the "fire in the belly" is uniquely qualified to run again, on the "I'm the guy you should have picked to clean up this mess, now look what happened" platform. There is certainly a very small interesting window/angle of attack that could be made with him running again. Plus, the dirt is out there is a relatively clear path to a nomination (I guess aside from the loser label). The big problem we seem to have had the last two cycles, that I would hate to see repeated is this long ass scorched earth primary. The RNC is right to take better control of the process. They blame the "open primaries" in some states, alleging some kind of reverse operation chaos in those places. I would be shocked to see if that has any real impact. What I see as having the biggest impact are thus: 1) Candidates without a clear shot in hell of winning doing aforementioned scorched earth damage. I don't really put Ron Paul's last two campaigns in this category, though perhaps I'm biased since I voted for him. He was a bit more mild mannered then people like Santorum, Rick Perry once he stumbled, Bachmann, Gingrich, Huntsman, etc. These folks went to war for a protracted length of time with all kinds of smear campaigns and buzz words... vulture capitalist, and such. This damaged the eventual nominee. 2) Early Primary/Caucus states like Iowa having disproportionate infuence in the process. Place with a handful of electoral votes, that largely are biased towards the candidate that will keep the subsidy dollars flowing. I remember remarking before the last cycle that we forgo primaries for the greater good if we could just get these people in a room and have them beat each other senseless, last man (or Woman) standing is the nominee . I also can't stomach the ego on these people. When you have the google baggage Santorum did, or the ladies like Cain (and let's not pretend there was any smear there, where their is smoke there is fire, he would have been crucified in the general election), Gingrich's past, Bachmann's crazy eyes, or possibly gay husband... etc. stay on the sidelines, I'll again exclude Paul from this category we all know what he is/was and what the objective of his campaign was. But if there is a bomb lurking out there and you know someone will find it, stay out of the race! The fact that you can't help your self makes it all the more egregious, that you are a calculating politician in it for power and not for "Saving the country" as you would have us poor schmucks running to your defense believe. Mitch Daniels wisely chose to stay out because of the issues with his wife, Haley Barbour, I think did the same because of alleged corruption? I can't remember and too lazy to google it. We're going to end up with Jeb Bush in 2016 aren't we? I would sign up for a third attempt by Romney before I willingly put another Bush in the white house. 2 years ago, I was sure we'd have a strong field in '16, I thought a lot of the heavy hitters were sitting out to avoid damage because Obama was maybe a lock for re-election. I'm not so certain we have such a deep field. Rand Paul really needs to sit this one out. He's more valuable in the Senate, and he can't run for both. Cruz is in my mind damaged goods since the "filibuster", the media "Palinized" him and will be only a 2 year senator anyway. The GOP seems to have a flavor of the week mentality, that crap hero worship needs to stop, I like Cruz just fine, but he is also more important in the Senate. Rubio is damaged form the amnesty push, and is in the same boat as Paul with the election laws. Christie, I think has more potential national appeal than people realize, but may be in the process of imploding himself over petty political retribution. Who's left? Scott Walker could be OK, Perry again, probably irreparably damaged from last time, maybe Pawlenty again? See item #2 above re: Iowa. Jeb Bush? I guess I'd give Walker a shot, and Perry a second chance? Things look bleak. Looking at the above is a Romney candidacy that far fetched?

@205 Something caused that bubble to burst... at that time...

--------------------

Not saying this was the cause, but the first thing I remember leading up to the crash was Chuck Schumer leaking that IndyMac Bank was in dire straights.  That launched a run on the bank, which promptly put it out of business.

On a related note, I know several people who used to work there, and they had a lot of friends that lost their jobs as a result.  There were a lot of people who were pretty pissed off at Schumer.

Unfortunatly, Schumer's in NY, and IndyMac was in LA county, so it's not like there was any blow back on him for his misconduct.

336 2014 and 2016 will be a political "reform" election cycle.  Voters are saying, loudly and consistently, that the political system is broken and that DC isn't listening.  All the while more and more voters are drifting downwards on the economic ladder.  Food prices are shooting up and wages are stagnant.  Palin can run against DC and the establishment with the withering media barrage of the last six years to prove her independence.  She is a media star, she compels coverage.  She can raise money, articulate her conservative positions, and offer solutions.  In an ordinary election cycle, like 1996, or even 1992, her chances would be low.  But 2016 will be a "trust" election and a "free men and free markets" plank with Palin on top of the ticket would be unbeatable.

I am guessing that you are facetious but as numerous people have posted, it is nearly impossible to overcome the overwhelming media bias that characterizes print and broadcast media today.  Perhaps it is time to start killing producers and editors at the networks and big city newspapers.  It wouldn't be necessary to kill that many of them since, as their fear of Muslim reprisal has demonstrated, they are cowards who's defense of their journalistic principals ends at the first whiff of a real threat.

The problem, of course, is not that political murder is not effective as a tactic but that it is condemned by Christianity which constrains the behavior of most conservatives in the United States.  Still, it would not take that many individuals who were undeterred by Christian commandments and who would be willing to kill a few of the top people at the New York Times and several network news organizations to properly scare them into a more evenhanded behavior.  Once would not be enough, however after the third incident, they would discover a strange new respect for balance in news reporting.

380 Dear Morons,

I met Gov. Romney at the SLC airport last month. We had been upgraded to first class because of luck (I guess) due to first polar vortex into Atlanta and missing cancelled flight the day before. As I am pretty spaced out in the mornings prior to tea bolus, I was staring into space prior to boarding. A gentleman, approached unseen in my peripheral vision, asked me if we were boarding yet. I said no then looked into the man's face and, surreal, it was Gov. Romney. I managed a "Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Romney" and shook his hand (rude, I know, to forget title, but, hey, I did not belch or honk in shock). We spoke for a brief time...and, honest injun, you could not ask for a friendlier and more humble man. My husband then showed up with water and pastries and I introduced them and he was as shocked as I was (it is pretty weird to have someone you have seen on teevee just appear and speak to you without warning or seeing in the distance approaching you). He was without entourage or assistants or hoopla. He walks really, really fast (carries own bags, unlike the Baron Baroque), and people would pass him at the airport and you could see !?! "That was Mitt!?!" And a few, one a retired military man, approached him with thanks and a handshake. He was polite and cheerful to all who approached him, and it was not phony crap, either.

So, before anyone gets all "He flew first class! What a jerk! He is a millionaire! What a jerk!" I want to remind you of all the millionaires who have private planes and fly with assistants to carry their bags and wipe their noses and iReggies and Huma's. His bags, by the way, were not expensive. Mine probably cost more than his. I am actually, from what I read about him in the past, surprised his did not have duct tape on it...and that could explain why he carried his larger overhead bag vs using the wheels. On the flight he kept to himself and no one made any attempt to pester him. The other bag he carried looked even less expensive and, gasp, sort of nylon bowling ball or gym bag.

Attack me if you will, as I don't give a rat's derriere what anyone thinks, but he would have made a far better president, as a businessman and overall decent man (and I consider myself and husband a good judge of character even on first introduction I am rarely wrong).

I wish he had had the chance to prove me right or wrong if he was the guy to pull us up from the swirling toilet. There again, anyone would be an improvement.
Bite moi #honeybadger/not care. I would vote for him again should he run. I was one of the daily people who asked, by the way, and he broke eye contact, laughing, and said "no." For what that is worth. I, ChristyB, tried to talk him into running. And, ladies, he is good looking and typically I do not notice these thinks that early in the morning.

381 Don't doubt it one bit, he wasn't my first, second or third choice, but I think he would have been a pretty good president. Certainly better than the alternative presented. I believe he probably does wear costco jeans.

382 "As for Obama's enthusiasm about invading Libya . . . well, that continues to mystify me.  Obama's silence has been most pointed and damaging when it comes to naturally occurring democratic movements within a despotic state."

I think I found the answer when I was investigating Saddam's WMD.  Saddam and Ghaddafi were interested in controlling Mauritania, a Western-Sahara country that is within missile range of the US.  Both Iraq and Libya were very busy developing long-range missiles, nukes, and sarin gas.  A simple plan was the scud-bundle, consisting of 4 or 5 scud missiles bolted together.  Scuds are Russian variants of the Nazi V-2 missile, and are well-tested.

The plan was to hide mobile launchers in the Western Sahara mountains, using whatever WMD they had.  The US would be hard pressed to find and destroy all these missiles before some hit the continental USA.

After Saddam stopped hanging around, Gaddafi and Iran were in cahoots with Al Qaida in the W. Sahara. New players, new missiles and WMD, but basically the same plan.

Then two things happened.  The US and NATO went after Libya and deposed/terminated Gaddafi.  And France attacked Al Qaida in Mali, Mauritania, etc.  That conflict is still ongoing.

The US and NATO won't tell the public why Libya was attacked. They like secrecy, and they dislike admitting military vulnerability.  The MSM cooperated by NEVER ASKING WHY LIBYA.

These secrets are not hidden.  I googled Mauritania +Libya and found Gaddafi had spent years trying to control the Western Sahara.  And now Iran is trying the same strategy.

So that's the best theory I have about WHY LIBYA.
