The Tax Man Cometh [Y-not]
— Open Blogger

How about some content?

It's almost that time of year again -- Tax Day! So it's probably a good time to ask yourself which states are the best and worst on taxpayers' wallets? Courtesy of Wallet Hub, here's a ranking of all 50 (or 57) states, plus the District of Columbia. The results probably won't surprise anyone here.

Top (best) five: Wyoming, Alaska, Nevada, Florida, and South Dakota.

Five worst: New York, California, Nebraska, Connecticut, and Illinois.

Make sure to follow the link as they actually do a number of different break outs in terms of types of taxes as well as adjustments relative to cost-of-living.

How did your state fare?

(Hat tip @gahome1 on Twitter.)

5 Last year in MN the dems raised taxes almost 2 billion. This year they couldn't dream up enough ways to spend the new and old money so they are giving back about 1/4 of it in tax credits/ rebates. And the dems which actually in MN go by DFL (Democratic Farmer Labor) or (Dumb Fucking Liberals as we call them) are applauding themselves over their largess on giving us a tiny ass piece of our money back. Sweet Geebus these people are stupid. Hey, I know I overcharged you, so here's a 20% refund. Gee, thanks!

I'm very pleased to live in Florida and benefit from the low tax environment.  The only dispirited time of year is computing the Federal extortion number and writing a check knowing the money will be pissed away on something frivolous such as a vacation to China for an undeserving women who wasn't elected to office but is entitled because she fucks the First Buffoon!

42 Every time I fill out our State Income Tax Return...I think about how nice it would be to live in a state that doesn't have them. *** Yeah, but those of us who paid additional sales taxes in exchange for no income tax got screwed for years because, while you folks could count state income tax against your federal taxes, we could not. 49 Here's a tech for Republicans to advance -- self-driving cars. Automated, self-driving cars will be a boom for the suburbs and exurbs. Worst thing is the commute. But robo-cars will transform a stressful, grueling long commute into ... a pretty relaxing ride. You can nap, watch the latest episode of a hit TV show, listen to the radio. As we've seen, one of the best predictor of voting patterns is density. Urban cores and inner suburbs vote super Democrat. Rural areas and exurbs voted Republicans. Generally, the farther away from the city center you live, the more you vote Republican. Robo-cars will allow more people to live farther away from places of employment. Long commutes will be more tolerable. So will commutes to see family, friends, sports, cultural activities. Robo-cars will let us live more spread out, less dependent on mass transportation, less dependent on govt services, more willing to vote conservative and Republican.

Top (best) five: Wyoming, Alaska, Nevada, Florida, and South Dakota.

Wyoming doesn't have a lot of people...so, fewer schools, roads, etc. to have to pay for.

Alaska gets money from evil Oil production, money they don't have to extract from their residents....even the citizens get a check.

Nevada and Florida...they get revenue streams from Tourism which helps pay for things.

South Dakota...they have that oil and gas boom going on, which probably helps out the state's bottom line.

So I can see how these States would be at the top of the list.

Just get rid of driver's licenses, and issue semi-permanent "You may not drive on public roads" orders to unsafe idiots. If one is caught driving, the police take the car and sell it, unless the car was reported stolen.

One politically incorrect piece I'd be curious to know is the racial breakdown of who gets what.

Deep red states in the South vote Republican, but they still have incredibly large amounts of African-Americans, far more than most deep blue states.

I'd love to see some stats because my guess is it doesn't matter the color of the state, it's wherever the free shit army calls home, the federal dollars follow.

(Except in Drudge's case it's not paranoia since we know powerful left-wing millionaires and billionaires really do want to destroy him, he really is the target of an organized left-wing conspiracy.) Telegraph links can be semi-explained by shared ideology, it's a right-wing UK newspaper, the Torygraph. Also with all the international news, I've used up all my free monthly views on the plane and Ukraine stories. Haven't heard anybody leak payola news about Drudge. 150 "were cops always as bloodthirsty and thuggish as they appear to be these days, and we're just starting to see more of it with the Internet, or have they escalated their thuggery?"

There has been a steady slow paramilitarization of police over many decades.

It starts with federal money being pipelined in to buy paramilitary gear, and with diversions of outright mil-spec kit as donated surplus to police departments. Plus letting police train one one one with military counterparts, often at military facilities, posse comitatus be damned.

The aggressive attitude then quickly developed to match the equipment.

Really it all goes back to the 1968 Omnibus Crime Control And Safe Streets Act, which is often blamed on "evil fascist pig" Nixon by the New Left, but which was rather a late-stage Lyndon Johnson federal pork fest, Nixon not having become President until 1969.

LBJ realized somewhat belatedly that the explosion in street crime and violent campus riots on his watch wasn't going to play well at the ballot box, and per classic LBJ Great Society rules, a program for every problem, he pushed through the Crime Control And Safe Streets package.

Hooking local police on the federal teat for the first time, with heavy duty stuff like riot guns and body armor (not common issue back in the day). Note that a whole lot of onerous federal gun control nonsense was similarly enacted during this same period.

Anyway, the federal law enforcement "assistance" has proven to be a popular pork trough ever since. Most politicians love to pose for photo ops with armed cops. Grrrrr! Get 'em! Take out the trash!

Also, the War On Certain Drugs has contributed hugely to police thuggery. Not least because of the abuse of asset seizures for PDs to fund their own operations.

161 So get this.  A girl at work got a new car about two months ago.  A month later, I see this giant dent/scrape in the side of it.  All I can think is how bad I feel for her.

Well, it turns out one of our coworkers, who actually works in her department, hit her in the parking lot.  Fortunately, there was a guy who witnessed it because he didn't come forward and admit it until he was confronted.  Then, after finally admitting it, he ignored all calls from her insurance adjuster.  Someone must have threatened him because he finally came up with the cash to pay for repairing her car.

How fucking amoral do you have to be?  It's bad enough to hit a stranger's car in a lot, but to hit a coworker and then act like an ass about it?  Frankly, it should be a firing offense, as far as I'm concerned.

He also should be glad it wasn't me he hit, because after getting a huge piece of my mind, he'd get my husband's fists all over his face and perhaps a baseball bat all over his truck.

Been there, done that, twice now. People are shitheels in general, but it's amazing how fast shitheels will pay up when they're faced with the prospect of going to jail.

I was fortunate to have evidence and witnesses.

I think the future is going to have to be miniature solid state car cams keeping a 24/7 digital recording of everything around the vehicle. Already happening in lawless places like Russia. And America is becoming a steadily more lawless place.

It isn’t the public threat of job termination, although the planning director is fairly certain those particular signs are intended for the state’s U.S. senator with the same last name. But he wants to make sure people know where they’re legally allowed to put their political signs this year.

268 Instead of the stupid GOP clamoring for immigration reform that is only #16 on our national "to do list of vital stuff", why don't they start clamoring for complete reformation of the IRS in conjunction with a Special Prosecutor for the IRS scandal. Get somebody who can make even idiots understand that the current tax system, by its byzantine nature, too costly with which to comply (wasting way too much capital on hiring legions of attorneys and tax preppers to make sense of it), wastes precious February-April weekends off that cut into more important family time, de-incentivizes people from saving money (which we then have to pay more taxes to fund irresponsible people's retirement like a stupid Ponzi scheme) and transferring it around to arbitrary shelters just to lessen liability but keeps liquid capital out of the macroeconomic system, incentivizes people to cheat, and limits upward mobility at the expense of "tribute" to arbitrary political pressure groups that are not accountable to outside oversight. We are America; when we see a problem, we study it, try a better solution, and if it works...great, if not go back to the drawing board or tweak it further. Why should we be bound by an outdated 100 year old "set in stone" law and not exercise "flexibility" like any other aspect of American pursuits? Are we freakin cowards who, as Sen. Blutarsky might as well have chided, are too afraid to do things different? Hell no!

327 I think the idea was that 10% went to the Temple and another whatever to the King. With 10% and only 10% earmarked for Good, the king would then levy a tax for Evil.

The king knew that if he charged 10% (or whatever) for a few dozen sultry Cairene concubines and all their clothes and jewels, the people would rise up in revolt - or at least they'd find some armed thugs to get the job done. But if the king charged 10+% for clearing Ishmaelite bandits off the hills and putting the boot to the Assyrian Emperor, the people would praise him.

I'm happy paying taxes to clear off jihadis and to put the boot to Putin. I don't like subsidies for jihadis (and layabouts), with ineffectual mumblings at Putin.
